    Color me impressed by the fragment penetration depth - that petal which didn't exit the block, looks to be 5/8 of the way through a 16 inch block of gel - the PETAL WENT AT LEAST 9 inches - thats very good for fragment, and with 3 x additonal wound paths, this is some effective self-defense ammo. I bought a couple boxes in 9mm and 45acp, caught them when they stocked at Wal-Mart. 9mm - $11.50 45ACP - $14.50
    Glad to see the 9mm performs as well or better than Federal claims.

      Bear in mind lung tissue isn't nearly as tough to penetrate as muscle, cartilage, and bone. I'd say these work well with a chest hit. Consider the torso on most humans isn't much more than 12".

      It would have been nice to see more weight retention, but I guess the copper would do a better job of keeping the lead together.

    • @sj6404
      @sj6404 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyleduddleston4123 Weight retention is only to ensure penetration and is really only relevant to mushrooming bullets that might break apart. If the central core consistently penetrates 18" who cares if the weight retention of the whole bullet is less. I'm pretty sure the weight retention of the central core is 100% of the weight of the central core.

    These rounds fragment after 2 inches. If you could cut the ballistic gel in half at the 3-4 inch mark & put pig ribs inside between the two layers of gel it would be appreciated! This would replicate the ribs inside the human body. Make sure you still do the heavy clothing test at the same time. I'm curious to know if the fragmenting parts have enough energy to pierce the bone & go through the 6 inches that they do without any bone resistance. If they go through the bone easily, I would say these are better than HST, Gold dots, Underwoods, etc. More room for error with shot placement. Everyone please thumbs up this comment so we can get this VITAL question anwsered!

      @sj6404 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What? Did the central core lose any of its weight? I didn't see any fragments off the central core, it appeared to hold 100% of its weight and expand quite well.

    • @kyleduddleston4123
      @kyleduddleston4123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SJ What central core? The bullet fragmented. It expanded but failed to hold onto the petals. Any expansion that takes place is great as long as it keeps the expanded portions intact. You don't get much cavitation with 9mm and so you relying on the cutting action as the bullet penetrates to the vital organs. Hitting the vital organs directly is imperative with handguns because, unlike a rifle, you only have the expanded diameter to work with inside the body. With a rifle round, you have the entire diameter of the cavitation to work with.

    I have a question about wound channel. To me it looks like it has a few very narrow channels as opposed to say a lead hollow point bullet that has a real wide wound channel. Is this really more damaging than a lead hollowpoint? Doesn’t seem to me to be as damaging. Any expert on wound channels out there?

    • @sj6404
      @sj6404 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wound channels work great on deer and hogs when you can wait 5 minutes for them to bleed out. The ONLY reliable way to stop a motivated 2 legged monster is to hit the central nervous system (think spine). With this round you get 4 shot attempts to hit the spine. If he's a really big fella and the fragments can't reach the spine, you're no worse off than a regular 9mm round because the central core still penetrates 18". Those other 3 fragments might also hit the heart, an artery, some other bits and would likely be more fatal than a regular round.

    It absolutely would be more damaging than a traditional hollow point. No lead exposure (except to the target) is a plus.
    Those fragments travel to 8" of more by themselves. There are newer terminal ballistics models / theories that demonstrate higher wound channel from a flat fronted bullet than the rounded hollow point. That's not even considering the 3 addition wound tracks from sharp fragments (sharp cuts bleed more than crushing ones do).

      I hope so - I'd love to see someone make a +P Custom Loading... imagine how deep the fragments would go at +10% loading. Also the 9mm bullets are HEAVY at 138gr. The 45ACP are lighter than normal at 200gr. I don't know why that is the case with the 9mm... but they certainly look like they work well. At 11.50 a box for 9mm, I might stock up on these; impressive performance if you aren't the type that thinks multiple wounds paths are somehow less effective than a single wound path. And these petals are going halfway through a 16inch block. If critics don't think that's deep enough for the 3 extra wounds paths to hit vitals or simply quicken incapacitation, then I scoff at their ignorance human anatomy.

      I totally agree with you about multiple semi deep wound channels and a single deep channel being more effective than a single path with a slightly bigger diameter( if the traditional hollowpoint even expands). I imagine that the reason the bullet weight is 138 grains for a 9mm because they wanted the base to retain a good portion of it's overall weight for consistently deep penetration. Only having 3 petals as opposed to 8 on the G2 RIP helps the petals weigh more and retain more of their velocity to penetrate deeper than the G2 RIP round with more skinny pieces of copper that weight almost nothing and would most certainly be stopped by bone.
      Probably also still wanted those petals to be able to do some real damage internally once they were shed from the base. 3 bigger, heavier petals plus the base is definitely gonna have more potential of hitting vital organs and deeper, larger blood vessels. Those G2 rip shards might be sharp and more plentiful than the 3 petals on the syntech defense round, but they're needle thin and much lighter compared to the three petals of this round.

      @@testing2741 The fragments might actually penetrate less if there was more power behind it due to it opening up/fragmenting earlier.. I've seen tests that show it going about +/- 1130fps, which actually isn't bad for a 138grain booollet.

      Are you planning to shoot someone through a wall or windshield lmfao. In almost every civil defensive shooting, it never ends with someone having to shoot through a barrier. If you want something for that, hornady makes an incredible round. Its call Hornady Critical Duty, made for cops for if they ever have to shoot through a barrier.

    LEAD FREE PRIMERS ARE A NO GO. I don't care what the ballistics are. In my experience lead free primers have a dramatically shorter self life than standard primers. Combined with the harsh environment created during ccw (sweat, vibration, etc) and I wouldn't trust it with my life. I'm all for getting lead out of more ammo. But as far as primers are concerned I won't carry rounds that use them until they improve their longevity. It's fine for the range. But beyond that I don't trust it yet.

      @@roweshowboxing yeah i don;t get it - I've had them fail at a rate different than lead-containing primers... they just cost more when I'm loading rounds because the more material is more expensive... all the more reason this ammo being cheap is impressive.
