Stunning performance. Dynamic, singing, mysterious. Superb work. Exceptionally difficult concerto. I wish it would be played more often and appreciated by any audience.
For me, Yulianna's interpretation is so shocking, I can't say it in words. So how she unterstands this piece ist unique!!! So much despair! And yet we should perceive the positive in our world! 💚🧡
The cadenza of this Concerto has never been so well interpreted as by Yulianna Avdeeva, a great virtuose. Bravo!

I've just recently discovered this concerto after only really just hearing only the 3rd and just putting this one off....I wish I had listened to this WAAAAY sooner! The difficult writing is remarkably witty, snarking, sinster and even sweet. And Yulianna's playing captures alllllll of the adjectives that you could possibly want to set to this piece. Her ability to to switch characters with her fingers so wonderfully and her phrasing is just insane! The last cadenza at 28:11 is just paced and phrased almost like someone is legitimately singing from the keyboard. Awesome playing from the orchestra as always too! Thanks for this gem of a performance.

When I say "another" Im refering to Anna Vinnitskaja. They are both super-good in making this something you dont forget so easily, but I will of course not make any judgement. Just listen.

I appreciate that the music is allowed to be thoroughly enjoyed without any hysterical over-the-top hysterics from the pianist. A classy performance in every way. She allows her performance to be HEARD, and showcases and brings forward all of the internal lines within this composition -- I've rarely heard such an accomplishment in this monster of a piece. I'm so thankful to be able to see and hear this magnificent performance of one of my favorite concertos. Thank you!!

As a Prokofiev (esp Piano Concertos and sonatas) fan since late 70s when I first came across and bought Ashkenazy's recordings of the 5 concertos on vinyl it is so exciting to see the 2nd becoming maybe more well-known nowadays with more younger pianists tackling this extra-ordinary, thrilling and in places very beautiful concerto. What a fantastic recording. Thank you for making it available and what brilliant and sensitive playing. Thank you.
I am sure also Ashkenazy´s version is very good! But, as you say, all that can let this second consert be more popular is good. And I am sure Yuliannas playing is very good. Thank you.

I have watched dozens of performances of this impossible piece, and tried to play it myself. This is right up there with the greats (Bronfman, Yuja Wang, etc.) I think Argerich actually never played this concerto publicly, although she clearly mastered 1 and 3.

What's my favorite recording of the Prokofiev 2nd? Good question! I've been trying to remember the artists on an RCA Victor LP long ago with a French orchestra and pianist (?) that has remained in my memory as the best I've yet heard. I'll be doing some research on that; meanwhile maybe someone knows which one I'm referring to, and can wake up my "little gray cells" regarding this.
Yulianna Avdeeva and Anna Vinnitskaya. They are both favourites.

Wunderschöne und detaillierte Aufführung dieses spätromantischen und perfekt komponierten Konzerts mit klarem doch elegantem Klang des unverleichlichen Soloklaviers sowie gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Instrumente. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im veränderlichen Tempo und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Faszinierend vom Anfang bis zum Ende!

I have been a devotee of this majestic pianist since attending a recital she gave in London shortly after her supposedly 'controversial' win in the Chopin Piano Competition of 2010. Third placed was Daniil Trifonov so the form has been franked in no uncertain terms!

All the drama and excitement in this score was fully evident in this performance, even if some of the wit and charm inherent in it may have been missing. It's a valid concept I suppose, but here some of the slower passages seemed to fall apart. I think some faster tempos might have helped the music's cause; other than that, it was a very enjoyable and effective rendition.
There's nothing falling apart! This is a spiritual and highly sensitive rendition of this dark music, to which the pianist is eminently suited. Unfortunately, some piano athletes, male and female, have made it more of a competition. There is so much colour and subtlety in the piano part and in the orchestral score that begs for elucidation - which is given here in spades. This pianist has perhaps the most beautifully resonant sound you'll find anywhere. And the amazing thing is, she got the SAME SOUND on the Yamaha at the Chopin competition. It was the first time I was able to forget that the piano wasn't a Steinway. She's top shelf, artistically!
This performance of the magnificent 2nd Prokofiev Concerto is superb!!! Yuliana is an amazing pianist,with extraordinary sensitivity, we were moved to tears listening to such an artist.Bravo,Yuliana,we love you!!!

Ich wette, dass die meißten die am Ende so frenetisch jubeln während des Werkes sich eher gefragt haben: Warum habe ich nur dafür Konzertkarten gekauft und nicht für einen Mozart, oder Was ist das eigentlich für Lärm, oder Wo bin icih hier eigentlich. Immer dieses inflationär gewordene Herumgröhlen nach Konzerten. Aber mir hats ziemlich gefallen 🙂

A pianist I generally admire, but this is technically right at the edge for her. Try a performance by someone like Bronfman and you will hear the difference.
Bronfman?? Ya, heard him on this live a few years ago. He mushed over it all. Not even close to the level of clarity and detail on display here 👍

Да, громко!!!Только это утомляет,слушаю как человек,который не знает и не играет сам концерт С.Прокофьева.Она хочет извлечь звук такой мощности ,который не соответствует ее натуре...Зачем?Не спорю,что она хорошая пианистка,но что касается души.....Ее победа была спорной !!!и навсегда останется таковой!!! Дальнейшая карьера Д.Трифонова это подтверждает!!! Не слышала,чтобы Ю.Авдеева пользовалась такой популярностью,как Д.Трифонов.Одно дело играть С.Прокофьева и другое дело играть И. С.Баха,С .Рахманинова,Ф.Шопена...С.Прокофьев-это другая специфика и соответствует натуре Ю.Авдеевой.
На мой взгляд, Прокофьев - это ее "сказка". Oна играет убедительно, трогательно и на высоком техническом уровне. Y нее есть темперамент на эту музыку! Сегодня она играет Шопена, прекрасно понимая его стиль и показала свой потенциал на конкурсе 2010 года.
Сравнение карьеры пианистов не всегда отражает уровень их игры, потомy как карьера складывается из многих обстоятельств в том числе и немузыкальных. Авдеева и Трифонов - два великих пианиста, но они разные и просто некрасиво так писать об Авдеевой, потому что ваши критические замечания не имеют под собой никаких оснований.

Скерцо слишком замедленно. Я так тоже потяну . Звучит как этюд Черни, сыгранно без блеска, тускловато. Такое впечатление, что это пересказ какого-то выдающегося исполнения.Студентка-отличница , не больше, но молодец, раскрутилась и много работает конечно, это не шутка, поддерживать форму, пополнять репертуар. В общем молодец, также по такому исполнению хорошо разучивать произведение.
