    I just realized, at 13 minutes, the lights in the hall go out during a stressfull piano passage, and Avdeeva doesn't miss a single note. Wow.

    In 2010 fourteen outstanding and experienced pianists clearly perceived what many less competent and sensitive people failed to recognize: a rising pianistic star entirely engrossed in music, celebrating it with love, passion, reverence, perfect concentration, emotional depth and tremendous power, with individuality but without a trace of egocentricism so often seen. That is why the 1st Prize was beyond doubt and discussion in the Jury. After ten years of innumerable standing ovations on five continents and four additional in the same hall during the pandemic it is clear that they were not mistaken. Nor was Maestro Wit clapping his hands with joy and satisfaction after the last chords.

    • @ransomcoates546

      The first prize was hardly beyond doubt. There was high intrigue, with Argerich giving Trifonov 100 points.

    • @marekczekanski1598
      @marekczekanski1598 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ransomcoates546 Yulianna Avdeeva got the highest scores in all 4 stages: I: 92,17; II: 93,58; III: 94,33; Final: 1,47. Scores of all participants are officially published: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/XVI_Mi%C4%99dzynarodowy_Konkurs_Pianistyczny_im._Fryderyka_Chopina. She won in all 4 stages. From the official data it is also apparent that Martha Argerich has never given 100 points to Trifonov nor to anybody else, but was consequently giving 99 points to Avddeeva in all 3 stages. The only instance of giving 100 points was that of Ph. Entremont, and it was given to Avdeeva in the 2nd stage. Analysis of these data shows that if there was any doubt, it was that of the 2nd prize for Wunder.

    So I hear her for the 1st time early this morning before I went to sleep around 2am. 12 hours later after 3pm, I'm saying to myself, "Lawd!! (southern for Lord) look at this sister girl go". After hearing Martha Argerich's latest video performance of this piece, I assumed that I would not be inspired "that much" by another performance, until I asked last night, "Who won this competition in 2010?" He fingers are lIke one with the piano keys, so fit for striking the keys perfectly. Her artistry & her beauty are absolutely amazing!!

    I am glad that the judges picked her as the winner, she has the rare ability to turn some one else music into her own, I never thought Chopin could be played like this... her interpretation is out of this world

    • @4Topwood
      @4Topwood 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The ability, rare or not, to turn someone else's music into one's own may be an asset in the jazz repertoire but in classical music, it is not only unnecessary but deleterious. A classical pianist should be turning someone else's music (i.e., the composer's) into everyone's music (i.e., the audience's). Classical music, unlike jazz, lacks the onanistic element.

      @kiranbernard7214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@4Topwood I guess Seong Jin Cho the winner of 2015 Chopin Comp doesn't deserve to be called a classical musician at all because Phillipe Entremont gave him a score of 1 out of 10 in the finals. A classical musician should "turn the composer's interpretation into everyone's" right?
      Leonias Kavakos after winning clasical music competitions apparently should be called a Jazz musician instead because he turned Paganini's score into his by neglecting the original bowing and increasing the speed and dynamics.
      Everyone can tell you have never been to a music school before Ann Edwards. So don't make false statement about something you've had no education on, you should already saw what It did to America during the pandemic. Go knit or something, or actually go to a conservatory where they teach what Classical and Jazz music is, it may help you realize why Classical Conductors always argue and tell one another off over how classical works should be played, not "turning the composer's interpretation into the audience's" and why Herbie Hancock became one of the greatest Jazz musicians by improvosing his own playing on the spot, not "turning someone's asset into his own".

    She played Chopin like a philosopher!she is completely wise like Plato’s logical mind to create music. I think that she is lack of common emotions to audiences to approach her music when she played Chopin, but she is the most sober person.She doesn’t want to excite people, her music has educational meaning. She persuades the core of music.

    • @waysmeans3774
      @waysmeans3774 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      "Creeps up on you" -- great description. I was watching some of the really complex parts of the first movement and at first thought, "This sounds like mandatory conservatory technique exercises." Then I listened to her playing longer and appreciated it for what it was--an aggressive articulation of the music, almost "con fuoco"--that brought a lot of intensity and articulation that I don't usually perceive in that piece. Very interesting performance and worthy of listening to again. It's different, but that's part of why I like it. It's hard to distinguish oneself when playing Chopin, but she achieves that here and makes beautiful music in the process. Well done.

I certainly can understand how they could award first prize to this woman. She is inspiring. And what a privilege to have these excellent videos that give viewers the best seat in the house. Yes, it would be wonderful to be in the audience at the end of such a performance, joining the crowd in expressing our appreciation but watching a fine video on a computer with a good sound system is pretty sweet. Emocjonalny występ, a ostatnia część zwycięska.

      Amazing! In a concert you can make mistake as long as you keep the passion. However in a competition, you have to be perfect with full passion and zero mistake. Chopin and Tchaikovsky Competition are the most prestigious and consist of many prodigy pianist around the world.

    Even if i still regard Bozhanov a genius and for this reason he had to win the competition without any doubts, rilestening the performances, i can say that this pianist is great. Apparently, she is nothing special but after some minutes her deep and maningful playing comes out. She has a wide range of colours: from subtle pianissimo to a solid fortissimo. And sometimes she can reach what i call "great moments". In my humbl opinion, the great moments are the touchstone between a normal and a great pianist. Avdeeva is a great pianist. From 7:40 to 8:00 is an example.

      Bozhanov IS a genius, one of the greatest pianists I've heard in the last 20 years. Yulianna played superbly in the early rounds but this concerto is not her forte, and Bozhanov's was also subpar. The winner of the concerto round was Wunder, and it's one of the most glorious performances of this concerto I've ever encountered, just completely "on" from start to finish.

    If this girl's hands shake at any point, it is evidence of the electricity she feels while playing--said electricity which can be felt right through this TH-cam video. She is on fire. While I sometimes criticize lack of old school legato in players, I do NOT criticize this performance for any such thing. I watch her hands and listen to her tone in cantabile passages as well as allegro--in which we sometimes use a non-legato approach--and I hear and see nothing but the most scrupulous efforts at legato playing. She fingers octaves with a lot of silent changes. I'm sorry but I disagree with anybody who criticizes her for lack of legato. Kudos also go to the conductor, who follows her ornamentation spot on. My only question would be about the piano she has chosen in this competition. This could be a case of the presence of a fantastic Yamaha and a mediocre Steinway, but nothing cuts through orchestral textures like a Steinway. Would she "bear down" as much on a great Steinway as she does on this Yamaha? I don't know. As it is, her tone is drop-dead gorgeous. Another huge positive factor is that she is always in touch with every instrument that plays a solo or accompanies her. As for competitions, "winners", and "we all get a prize"--there are many ways to interpret any piece of music, and many ways to be outstanding, but the judges agreed that in this moment, she is better than anyone else. A well-deserved win! Brava, Yuliana!

    I wonder which book did she used for this. Upon listening, I noticed on 34:34 that she used C sharp on the sequence (C - B - F - G) but in Shirmer's, its written C - natural (C - natural, B, F, G)
