  • In this video, Mike Pitt shows you his secret to hitting the perfect wedge. The secret is hitting a flighted wedge, when the golf ball travels lower in order to cut through the wind and even travel a further distance without hitting the ball harder. Every pro golfer desires a lower trajectory with their lofted clubs so watch this video and let us know if you have any questions in the comment section down below.

    That was a GREAT lesson. My 13 yr. old son has a PGA Teaching Pro who is working with him on the same concepts. He told me how challenging it is to teach young golfers who are growing into their bodies because they are so extremely flexible and still learning how to control their swing radius. Love how to talked about long, low contact with wedges.

      Thank you!! It is a challenge to work with changing bodies but that’s not going to stop us from getting better!!
      The biggest thing with the youngsters is controlling their armswing on the backswing and to get them using their core or stomach muscles more!
      Some of my youngsters describe the feeling as doing a plank while standing up, I describe it as doing a sit-up or sucking their belly button into their spine during the swing.
      Thanks for watching!!

      You are absolutely correct. Young, flexible golfers can be a bit, "noodley"; it's simply their brains growing into their developing bodies. BTW, the young man whom you were teaching was developing, "Tommy John Syndrome", which would eventually require surgery (it's a baseball phenomenon). You probably saved his future golf career. @@GolfPitt

    After setting the club on the back swing and when you swing through the ball, are you holding that angle all the way through? If you're releasing the club, when do you know to release?

    What a awesome video this was, this really excites me as i use to hit the moon ball wedges until your last flighted video and this one just tips it off. i was delighted to hit my wedges this way now a days as i now hit my 54 the same distance as i used to hit my 50 and to me its a my easier swing than a full wedge swing and if you practice this swing it times up the chest and arms fantastically for the other clubs in the bag.
    it leave me with 2 questions for you, 1. how should the ball be reacting on the green when it lands ? spin and stop or roll out some?
    And my 2nd question is what do the pros do with the shorter shots , 30/40/50 yds are the still trying to flight down or do they revert to more loft? how do you teach these types of distances. thank you in advance for your great work and effort tk you.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So happy this has helped! Your spot on it being easier and more repeatable! As for your questions, the ball reaction will primarily depend on the greens and conditions that day, softer greens it will hit and stop right where it lands, on firm greens it will hit and just release slightly forward.
      As for the 30/40/50 yard shots, again it is all situation dependent but they were primarily use trajectory to control the ball. A 30 yard shot that needs to release a little bit more will be played a little bit lower a 30 yard shot that needed to stop will be played higher. We will go over those shots in the future video for you! Your primarily use the length of swing and bar position in clubface to get access to every number you can think of! Thank you for watching!

    Love his finish. Something about his extension into the finish looks very like Hogan!🔥 I have a video suggestion too, which might be great like your takeaway leverage video. I would be interested to understand better why you and Adam advocate that space between the lead-hand thumb and the knuckles vs. what others teach where the lead thumb is pinched to the side of the hand/short thumb, as if trying to pinch a thin coin in the crook of the thumb. I assume it helps with setting in the takeaway/stability at the top of backswing etc, but think it would make a fascinating video to hear your thoughts on this and how some of the pressures in the hands occur. Just an idea!🙃

    these young people are so blessed in having access to good golf teachers like you - who understands the variety of golf swing and HOW to convey the concept to the students in a simplified way. So many PGA teaching pros out there, who are great at swinging the golf clubs and unfortunately not being able to simplify the concept. I took 1 whole year lessons , almost weekly, with a so-called GPA licenced pro here in Cincinnati, only to be hollered at, to be treated like a child, to be thrown at with esoteric biomechanics terminology. (even with my chemical engineering degree and an MBA, I have to confess that I cannot comprehend his terminology ). Finally, one day after almost 12 months of enduring the abuse, I finally told him "F* you, one more hollering and I am out of here, I am too old and too successful in my own right to be treated like a child by a second class PGA pro". I bid him adieu after my 1 year contracted lesson plan. Next time I have a chance to go back to Orange County, I will have to call and make appointment for a tune up with you.

      Gosh, thank you so much for your kind words! I hear you! I teach golf for a living and sometimes I hear other teachers talk and I don’t even know what they are talking about!! I can’t imagine how the every day player feels. We always say why make a simple addition problem a calculus equation. We also love the idea that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!
      I’m sorry to hear about the experience with your old teaching pro, It has to be a team effort and student and teacher need to be on the same page for it to be successful. Please let us know if you’re ever in the area there’s anything we can do for you! Thanks for watching!

    Mike - you talked with this golfer about two things in my swing that I can't seem to fix: 1) the hands being behind at impact and 2) the finish with hands way to the left. Am i correct that these are both caused by lower body getting too far in front of everything else? Do you have more videos on these things?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The body getting too far in front either laterally or rotation, is a cause of both of those things!
      I will get some more content going on the sequence of the downswing for you! At the end of the day, you have to use the ground at your core to fire your hands and FEEL the speed in your hands lead the rotation of your body …
      Couple simple things take some chest high back swings and pause, get the pressure in your front foot. Keep your chest facing the ball and accelerate your hands past you!

    Mike I cheated😊 just watched a video by Giles Gill? How to hit the driver straight and long. It looks very much how I would like to hit it. I don’t see anything about the squat move with you or Adam. On the down swing going down into the lead leg while driving the back shoulder down thru and up. I would love to see you or Adam address this move. I’ve been having trouble lately getting my right shoulder down and thru. Sorry for the long text but I need some help! Thx

    Is it true that you want most of the clubs peak height to be the same?

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question! It all depends on the player and there’s skill level in club head speed. in general, better players will have a consistent height through the bag, but also have the ability to easily make them go higher or lower. Normally that height is roughly 90 feet. Again, this is a generality for good players.

      @@GolfPitt thank you. Can’t wait to try and get rid of my super high, no distance, floaty wedges. Seems like I was taking full swings, but will modify to this method for the low tight draw from 9i to wedges. 🤞🏽

      This will definitely help! Keep the club face, looking at the golf ball, make a chest high, backswing and accelerate your hands past your lead leg!!!! Let me know how it goes!
      Normally, the professionals are trying to hit their short irons lower and their long irons higher
