3 Drills To Fix An Over The Top Swing, INSTANTLY!

  • In this video, Mike shares 3 drills to fix an over the top swing. An over the top swing is very common with beginner golfer and will cause a swing path to go "outside to inside" and may be impossible to hit a draw. But by implementing these drills, the golfer will have a sense of what it is like to have the ball start out to the right after contact

    The last drill is really amazing. I watch you and Adam and I’ve been taking the club back down my foot line and then down to my foot line. Not over the top but steep. I tried this and it’s a game changer. When you quantify the exact angle it’s money. Thank you

      Down the line of the feet on the way back, down the 22degree line on the way through (Bradley Hughes PGA tour coach calls it the 4:30 slot)
      If down the line of you feet away from the target is 3pm on a click the club returns to the ball through the 4:30 mark (22.5degree)
      Thanks for watching!

    Useful and effective tip. But instead of using two golf balls as a gate, I used two cone-shape rubber tees instead. It's safer and less worrying. lol. When you build more confidence you can put the tees behind the ball to make a gate about 6 inch wide. No more coming over the top if you can hit the ball without hitting the tees.

      Mike, this is great!!! It’s not a problem, it’s the solution! The rabbit hole of TH-cam and trying to mesh many different teachers instruction together is a surefire way to have the wheels come off.
      For everyone out there staying focused and consistent with one or two instructors teachings will help you get better (we would be honored if we are your go to guys).
      Again Piecing things together from everywhere for anyone is a recipe for disaster.
      Thanks for watching Mike any questions you have or any content you’d like to see please let us know !

    The discussion around 4:30 is gold. Everything bad in my swing happens when I get lifty with the arms, then a whole raft of compensations.
    I really have to “feel” like my top of backswing is at my waist almost, and that my arms are almost dead in the swing.
    Of course on film it actually looks like a stock standard top of backswing! Thanks to you and Adam for the tutorials.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Boom there it is! Absolutely what needs to happen for you and 98% of players out there to connect their backswing and have a big body turn with a short connected arms swing!

    Was hitting balls, misremembered the 22 1/2 degree drill and aligned the stick, pointing it at the ball rather than my back foot. Turns out that angle in relation to my clubhead nearing the ball worked great! I'll try using it as my shaft attack angle next time. How about an alignment stick for an early take away?

      @GolfPitt My fault, meant early in the takeaway, like the first foot or two. If you were to place a stick on the ground as a guide for the backswing what angle would it be on. Thanks, I'm really enjoying your instruction, been watching you guys for a while now.

      These are the black true temper XP ST15 105 s300…
      This is the first set that I went lighter then 120/125g in the irons and I actually like it a lot! The lighter shaft allows me to swing a little easier and a little smoother and still get plenty out of it! Obviously I loooove the color to! As part of Callaway staff(11 years now 🤯) we get fitted with New Clubs every year to be in the current year model. I’m looking forward to getting the new Apex pros! Unfortunately, there’s no blacked out option yet on 2024s so these will certainly be missed !

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In some cases. I believe the lag shot which is the training aide you’re referring to helps people who get very disconnected in the backswing and in the transition. It won’t let you take the club away too quick or bounce to the top and it won’t let you change direction too quick otherwise it falls behind you.
      Keep an eye out on the channel because I’m going to start a training aid segment that will evaluate and explain to you guys what every training aide out there does and who it can help! We are going to identify the best Training Aides out there and also the ones they probably aren’t worth your time!

    Do you feel like you're hugging your core in the downswing. Kind of looks like that, looks pretty sync'd up in the downswing.

    • @GolfPitt
      @GolfPitt  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve never heard it phrased that way but I think yes! The core is tight and the arms are attached to it! Just remember post impact that hug feels like you are letting go as you extend the arms and club more down the range versus staying tight with the arms too much which could cause you to cut across the ball.

There's a million videos telling you to hold the trail wrist through the ball and a million telling you to ulnar lead wrist through contact. Super confusing. Why not do my Twirl Golf Swing? Simply put: at the top of one’s backside with subtle quickness twirl your handle clockwise (never counterclockwise) using both your hands and wrists working together. This one swing thought will place centrifugal force on your club head soaring it down through your ball turning your body to your lead side for your glorious finish.
    My one magic swing thought also serve secondary benefits such as keeping you in your golf posture; keeping your arm close to your chest; facilitate rotation; and above all else prevents premature extension. Cheers 😊🥂👍❤️ Hope you try it for yourself. And feel free to teach it as well. But give me a little acknowledgment for telling you this.Also check out my Twirl Waggle on You Tube inspired by Jack Nicklaus and you will know understand exactly what I am talking about.
