      It is because we like to understand everything, unless we are feeling depressed by how awful reality is. It is what we find "fun", if you will. At least, until our brain gets tired. Then we just get bored because we can't engage very well anymore and then the infamous "zone out" occurs.

    'when we fake it, we are trying not to die' too fricking true. the intp chameleoning really rings true for me, i wear diff faces for certain friends or groups of people, when two diff groups somehow mix, idk what to do and i typically just take a backseat and say nothing as to not fuck it up lol. darting eyes is defo generally an xnxp thing.

    • @staticfpv881

      As an INTP I get the Chamaeleon thing and I have done it . AS I’m getting older and having my own businesses dealing with ppl most of my day doing nails and wedding photography . I’ve grown to just be me and own my awkwardness and actually use it in A somewhat charismatic way. Knowing my audience is very important who can handle our minds and who can’t. That’s a simple question I ask myself when I meet someone.

    • @PamPawz
      @PamPawz ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol so true. I might also say that we do not do this deliberately. We naturally 'blend' with that group exactly like what a Chameleon does in nature. It's like being with those people has that effect on us. We do it subconsciously.

  • @gradstudentUCM
    @gradstudentUCM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +240

    The easiest chameleon move is to get them to talk about themselves. Ppl who aren’t INTP love talking about themselves. One TH-camr talked about it as polite interrogation. Plus, it’s just part of trying to solve the puzzle that is human.

    • @GameplayzOfficial
      @GameplayzOfficial 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      And it's also a good filtering system, if the person brights up and talks endlessly about themselves you already know it's not a person compatible for a deep connection, if they rather talk about concepts and continuously keep diverting from your attempts to lead them to an personal-centric conversation, then you know there is a person to give your attention.

      As an INTP, most people don't care about my interests. I like it when someone asks me about myself because in showing them my worldview I feel they will be less likely to misunderstand my motives whn some other time I try to help them with my Ti insights.

    • @ClockworkAnomaly
      @ClockworkAnomaly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@theofreeman4300 this is the correct take- Eye contact takes up a huge amount of brain power, which INTP's choose (by virtue of inferior-ing their Fe) to avoid spending and instead spend on internal logic activity (thinking). ESFJ, our opposite, no doubt embrace this aspect of life instead. Its an example of fighting against the wave or surfing it, something that can be used to describe many other function pairs in various aspects. In the end, there's only so many pressures you can fight and say no to, and the rest you must allow.

      We stop wasting mental and emotional energy in things we know are absurd already.
      Basically..we might just highlight the absurdness for others , but not bother too much or dwell on it as we did in our growing up years.
      Accept the things you cannot change , change the things you cannot accept.
      Why..because as soon you understand the human brain...and you understand brains are in charge of making rules...it becomes pretty clear, it are not the rules that are the problem...

      Just like we updated our own brains etc many times in many subject, one has to become realistic, this is just life.

  • @bechernudeln8078
    @bechernudeln8078 3 ปีที่แล้ว +203

    According to the test I'm an INTP, so here are my two cents:
    Clothing: Plain and simple, yet comfy. Cheap sneakers, jeans and a hoodie, and a coat in winter. Haircuts are also an interesting matter in terms of costs and usefulness, and most importantly the social factor behind it. I mean someone is touching your hair! Once every two years is the way to go imo.
    The faking matter: Well, I'm kinda faking it. During freetime (outside) I usually wear headphones and avoid socializing completely, and when forced to socialize I'm wearing it I don't pretend to be interested in working together but I don't voice my opinions. Never ever comes something worthwhile out of it and experience has proven that it only leads to tedious arguments with a negative outcome. It's exhausting but it could be a lot worse if I would pretend to be outgoing.
    Meeting INTP's: Everybody has to buy food, right? Groceries stores are the #1 place to find them if we exclude the internet. Most of the time they (me included) plan in advance on what to buy and are rather quick to leave the store with their headphones still on their head. Paying with the card is faster and doesn't require physical contact, so that's a bonus sign.
    Eye contact: Man, I could write a song about it if I would've the skills. I always look away when I speak because looking someone in the face is unironically distracting and messes with my thoughts. To make a dumb comparison, it feels like playing a game with inverted controls and looking away makes it normal again.

      @bechernudeln8078 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@valej9387 Women could go way longer without a haircut. I'm speaking for myself as a male that 2 years works quite well for me. I need around 5 to 10 minutes in the bathroom, showering and drying my hair included. It's up to them if they want to include make-up or not, which is by far the most time consuming thing in the morning. It also depends on if someone is a morning person or not, and if they enjoy showering and take their time or get it over with fast. I'm not a morning person, so I get it over with and grab my coffee ASAP after being "done" with the morning.

    • @valej9387
      @valej9387 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bechernudeln8078 Does not work with all hair types, this coming from a female. After a certain amount of months, the frizz sets in. Then the knots. Eventually, it takes way too long to work the knots out of hair, even if showering in the morning.
      I like to be ready in five minutes. Not possible if my hair's not been cut in the past 3-6 months. And let's be honest, almost no one takes a woman seriously or views her as responsible/capable if her hair is an absolute mess. Just saying, it's easier to just get it trimmed to make mornings and life easier to deal with. I usually wait until it becomes difficult to deal with before getting it cut, but that's almost never more than 5 months, and is sometimes closer to 3.

    Social chameleon-ing is a worthwhile skill to have for us INTPs, I think. It validates our Fe when done right. I’d suggest using Ne to look for patterns in intonations, you’d be surprised how predictable speech can be, especially small talk. Pair this with Si to develop muscle memory for the sounds and their corresponding response. You’d know if it’s a “yes” or “no” question by listening to the flow of the sentence without listening to all the words. You’d know when an agreeable chuckle is the best way to make light of the situation. If you stutter, exaggerate it like you’re joking around. Listen to every other word and throw in a well-placed pun so it wouldn’t seem like you aren’t listening. Ti-Ne can be used to lead conversations into a payoff or a punchline. All these are things that I do to nurture my Fe.
    What I’ve realized about the cognitive stack is that we have to first develop our more dominant functions before we can access the lower. It’s like strengthening our rope first before going deeper into the well. Even the shadow functions are accessible if we’ve developed our Inferior Fe enough. Being able to use my Nemesis Te without being pressured has actually made me start hobbies that I would’ve otherwise talked myself out of; Child Si can be a bitc* for comfort like that, and Dominant Ti can stop us cold on our tracks when we feel our course of action ain’t foolproof enough. But, then again, there are people less competent than us that get the results that we can only imagine...just because they started doing things even when it’s not accurate enough for us.
    Currently, I’m trying my best to connect with my Trickster Se, and it’s a pain. I think that I’d have to turn off my Ti-Ne feedback system to fully use it. And it’s hard. I try to mimic Se function by using Ne-Si, though, by walking briskly on thin pathways where I can get out of balance and fall off if I don’t get in touch with my surroundings. Si for muscle memory to keep my balance and Ne for mapping all the possibilities of me falling off. It’s kinda working, but I don’t think it’s enough for me to proceed to the Demon function yet. 😅

    As INTP 25 yrs old female.
    I can relate to your each point 100%, but since I'm a girl, I can tell you some more about me.
    Yes I put earphone all the time to the point my family hates me because of it specially my sis, she is INFP.
    I hate arguments, I ran away from arguments.
    I ask silly questions that people tell me I'm mad.
    My dressing sense is very casual, I don't wear earrings or any bracelet or even makeup. I wear loose clothes, cotton, soft comfortable clothes, even in party, and I totally stand out because of it.
    Many made fun of my dressings, my ex best friend also taught me how to dress, to the point she broke friendship with me because of it. And for many reasons.
    I don't upload my selfies on social media. I don't use my real name on social media that's made me insecure that people who used to be my classmates would sent request to me. I have barely 59 followers on insta. And people kept unfollowing me bcz of my weird posts and my weird name which I change time after time.
    I like to study so many topics, I can give my hours and hours to know more, I listen lectures to double my knowledge. I use all social media but like a unknown user.
    I love flat chest, I wish I could flat my chest, what a bunch of luggage. So heavy tho I'm only 49kg.
    I don't cut my hair, It's below my waist. I adore it
    Yes I have emotional less face and eyes. I rarely smile. I tried to smile many times it looks so fake. My mother and sister hates it when I do that. Nobody likes my smile at home.
    I struggle behaving normal infront of gathering, my mother slaps me with harsh words after ending of gathering. That I don't know what to say on when.
    Yes I don't go outside alot until it's emergency. My parents kick me to go atleast to my lawn and watch birds and sky and tress.
    I graduated in physics, chemistry and maths, after that I got lost. Master degree looks waste to me.
    I don't listen songs unless it has meaning.
    I hate romance, I'm single. I saw thumbnail. I clicked. Coz that happened to me, a couple were doing weird things in empty classroom I was on the front seat, I looked back and caught them doing that thing, then I told my one and only friend about it, and I gave that scene a name and wrote on my friend's arm. Lmao
    I literally have no friends since everyone left me. My mother curse me alot, my whole family. I wish I can shift to different place soon and have my life with peace and silence, so I can think a lot❤️

    When meeting people it's like
    'This is who I am, take it or leave it.'
    If I'm not their cup of tea, I don't have a problem with that.
    I'm honest and I plan things out and strategize every activity in advance or on the spot.
    It's extremely rare if I do come across someone who's a step ahead of me, and I know this sounds quite arrogant, but really, I'm not trying to toot my own horn here , it's like playing chess, some people are genuine, and others have different intentions.. it's key to figure them out and do the homework without them noticing a thing and be prepared to strike when the situation changes in an unfortunate direction.

    • @waffletdt5603
      @waffletdt5603 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. If someone doesn't like me because of my personality, I just shrug and walk away.
      I strategize weeks ahead, but its always ruined because of some unforeseen event happening and I lose everything I've planned for.
      I can usually tell when someone is trying to use me for something, but I have encountered no one who has been able to slip past my defenses. The hard part is figuring out intentions, then the easy part is doing research on them until I can figure out a weak spot.
      And yes, I play chess a lot rather than talk to people, so I always see things strategically.

    chameleon intp here. it's easy to 'fit in' when you don't really know that person| group of people. it gets harder over time when you are getting to know a specific person on a deeper level. they expect you to pick up on certain moods and emotions that are really subtle and require a lot of emotional understanding. I can't relate and will always unwillingly or willingly distance myself from this person to avoid conflict. thus most of these people are acquaintances at best. bloody exhausting. wouldn't recommend for every day use.
    (I did use it a lot while I was working as a server to gain tips though and yes, I started serving because I was too detached and needed to challenge myself. it's repetitive (ugh small talk) but it helps you take notice of what other people categorise as normal behaviour.)

    I have to say man just listening to that literally made my day! I have never heard someone put that many accurately placed pins on a personality that I've been explaining to the same people so many times over and over but finally just said this is just how it is. And then start thinking maybe I actually am completely stupid. because no one around me has ever once understood what I was saying even after I re phrased it like 20 times to see if a different word placements would maybe summon something that takes away your ability to speak and will be able to hear me now instead of getting high off hearing yourself talk! Literally man I'm 28 and had pretty much gave up trying to make people who can't see outside of their little box that got handed down to them. The most frustrating thing is that my idea is knocking on the front door of their box but the the previous generation sealed all the exits. So thank you for just being you man. Getting to hear someone who is a complete stranger perfectly explain who I am. The occasional mask and the core! This must be how people stuck in a foreign country for years not understanding the language and finally hear someone who can understand you and you understand. Made my fucking day!

    INTP here - I do not go out often, but when I do, I certainly do not require f-f-frynds(?), f-frands(?), Frends(?)--whatever, i don't have any anyway, who needs to ever spell it... The point is, I have been so alone for so long that I am neither afraid of it nor am I ashamed. The rest of the world may think I am a character in their own personal horror movie because I crash their party or show up in their bar with my RBF and no one else and attempt to interact with no one--except, the people they're all afraid to talk to but secretly want to, the hottest and/or the weirdest as though they are normal hoomans too, because there are no rules. There will be a polar response to me among everyone, including the people I ignored/ignored me. Then I will disappear, most likely because that was enough social effort for the next month or so, but if anyone ever sees me out again, they will treat it like a B-list celebrity sighting... OR maybe that is just how it is in my head, I can't really tell.

    I also don't fit with INTP dressing only for comfort. Couple years ago I found a particular silhouette that enhanced my attractiveness and although my fashion style evolved in many directions I always stick to it. I've spent many hours in front off my mirror to create ready to go outfits so you could say that I am wearing the same outfits over and over again but I have so many of them that I think no one can notice.
    Also I really like tight fitting clothes around the waist, I'm always wearing dresses and skirts. I could say that those type of clothing is comfortable for me because skirts leave a lot of freedom for the bottom part of the body and the thightiness around the waist helps with my anxiety because I feel like someone is hugging me. Also it controls my posture.
    So I guess in the end I will agree with you on that matter but with my own personal view on it.
    I'm focusing a lot on clothing because It helps me create a particular persona for different occasion. I've realised that people treat you differently depending on how you look so I use it to my advantage.

    The merging groups thing is very true lol. When I had my delinquent friends in highschool I would get very uncomfortable bringing them around my parents because I had two different personas I would put on around them. The little angel child around my parents and the delinquent jokester around my friends😂

    My favourite INTP I've met online. He was in a small friend group that I somehow started gaming with. He was very silent at first, but when he voiced stuff, it was always something I resonated with, so I added him right away. And then at some point we started to play with just the two of us and he started to share interests with me and, again, I was absolutely resonating with it. But no one knows really anything tangible about him. Aside from his brother maybe, but even the brother doesn't seem to really know what's going on with him most of the time. No one knows what the guy looks like or where exactly he lives (as in which town). Not even close online friends he knows for years and seems to be rather fond of. Anytime someone new enters the conversation, he's basically gone. But as soon as they are gone, he goes back to normal instantly.
    He's witty and funny and we can debate stuff without any hard feelings arising. Absolutely love and respect the dude. And I don't even really like most people. Asked him out a few times by now, but I think I scare him a little. He needed 3 months to tell me he's not sure what the right thing to do is. But he keeps coming back, so I'm not giving up xD
    I'm an ambiverted ENTP btw. A fairly healthy one that doesn't need to bring anyone down to feel fulfilled, but I still sometimes step on people's weak spots accidentally. Oopsie.
    Wish me luck, please hahaha.
    Btw. if you have any tips, I'm eager to learn.

      @@julyol119 If he's not sure what the right thing to do is, he's either divided on liking you but there's an issue (distance, social convention, some secret like he's not got legs or something, etc) OR he feels obligated to date you (you like him, he wants to date someone, how can he complain when he's rejecting you? He should just date you) but he doesn't like that feeling of obligation and is ambivalent towards you (not feeling a spark, basically- which I don't think is something an INTP should base their dating off of, their sparks are garbage indicators, but some people just like to have a spark, you know?). In either case, the most generally useful recommendation I can give would be to give him 3 things: Space to figure out the situation, presence so he doesn't feel like you are gone/leaving and remembers you exist, and lastly, a sample of benefits, so he knows what he can gain/is missing. Its up to your clever intuition to figure out the balance of these three, and what each of these means from his perspective. Some INTPS need a lot of space, others just need a few hours. Some would benefit from an intuitive sense of loving connection, others might desire something more real. Some INTPs feel abandoned after a week, others a month, and some a day. So, I leave all that to you. Also, I trust you as an ENTP to know I don't mean degrade yourself in any way on the sample aspect- you know all the suave moves- use them lol. You also mentioned you feel you might scare him- you can always discuss things rationally with an INTP, so if you're worried about that, ask him. You can't manipulate the INTP, unfortunately, so this is the best advice i can give you.

    • @julyol119
      @julyol119 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ClockworkAnomaly Thank you for taking the time to reply to me :)
      I think I'm already doing many of the things the way you proposed.
      Only the benefit thing could be somewhat difficult. I'm offering things, but he neither declines nor agrees to really anything, aside of this one time he let me know he wasn't sure. I don't have his address, so can't even send him a present or something, aside of on steam etc.
      And I appreciate that he doesn't try and fake it, but I'm not gonna force or manipulate him. I'm a win (at least I'm somewhat sure of that) and will not be treated like a consolation price. Or be kept warm for later.
      In the end, I know I made it clear that our friendship comes first and anything else is optional and no hard feelings. And that I don't care about most things most people worry about (like looks or money, I actually don't care, I can take care of that myself; and fk social norms, as a sociologist I know where those come from haha).
      So I feel like by now the romance ball is in his court and the best I can do is to not get too frustrated. Which is sometimes hard for someone like me, who knows what they want and is not afraid to get hurt while trying to get it. But I'm in no rush anyhow.
