Given that the last episode was "We literally just made Karina draw hot monsters for 40 minutes" and this one is "I made myself draw backgrounds every day for a week", it can be inferred that in the Drawfee canon, every video title is spoken from Jacob's perspective.

When Julia said "its hard to work on something you don't have a lot of confidence in" man. I feel that so hard. I want to get better at anatomy but drawing people is so hard I really have to kick my ass to be able to do it.
I've been in an art funk for months. Every time I feel like I want to do something, I suddenly remember how many artists are "better" than me and I just stop. I try and remind myself everyone has their own styles, and practice really is everything, but it is just so hard to find the will sometimes.
I guess my best tip is to just draw bodies without expecting a masterpiece and following the motto of "kill your art"... I'm by no means the greatest anatomy artist, but im slowly improving. And i gotta tell you, drawing shitty drawings is the best way to do so. Sometimes even try and experiment with trying to draw somebody with your left hand or right hand, with your eyes closed, without looking at the paper.... Just to draw for fun and also study people that are more experienced in what you wanna improve... Hope it helps, and we are all taking it one step at the time and doing hard things we are kinda scared (for me, its also backgrounds) Good luck!
I definitely think Julia should do character studies for a week!! Karina it would be fun to see do timed challenges I think, and maybe Nathan could do clothing or poses or something else he struggles with? This was a really cool episode, both for good art and content reasons, and to see a perspective of how to keep learning and pushing yourself as an artist!
Seeing these different facets of Jacob's art style is so cool! It's such a solid reminder how great artists you guys all are even beyond what we normally get to see on the show
Something I really appreciate about Jacob is that he's always really vocal about the learning process. Makes artistic growth feel a lot more achievable. Great ep!
I really like episodes where you guys try to push yourselves as artists. It’s obviously not healthy to do that every episode or else you guys would be putting yourselves through hell but it’s honestly so nice to see how much you guys are capable of wether it’s through fun exploration or sheer determination like blender and clay Luigi Julia
As someone who is still very much in the amateur range of art, it is super cool to see really good artists still perfecting their ranges! There really is no limit, there is always something to learn.
as someone who also struggles with backgrounds, this is so helpful - to see the progression from pulling from life to other art, great edutainment from y'all!
I kind of love this format with one week of practice / talking about learning things. This feels like a super good way to combine entertainment and learning. Also I started writing this during the last drawing finishing and now you all are talking about how I should comment. It is a very meta and surreal experience. I'd love to see you all do something like "I added 1 concept from Bob Ross to my paintings each day this week, THE FINAL RESULT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE"
Ok I gotta be honest at first I wasn't 100% sure how I'd feel about the single artist episodes but then I realized I was simply being a silly goose because you're all truly entertaining and amazing no matter what the prompt is
22:00 "where should i apply texture" an art teacher mentioned once that "all texture put in the places with the least contrast in value will be lost, so ONLY WASTE YOUR TIME WITH IT IN KEY PARTS WHERE THE EYE IS DRAWN TO THE LIGHT AND DARK CONTRAST" and he changed my life. So in the case of jacobs exercise here it should have heavy texture on the light road marks against the dark ground and then later on the dark tree branches next to the light fog. The rest the eye is not gonna register or care about.
It'd be really neat to see something similar with each member :3c so everyone pics a subject they feel they struggle with (backgrounds, interiors, animals, whatevs) and each one does a 7 day challenge of drawing that subject.
Karina does painterly aged celebrity portraiture every day for a week, Nathan does Kopinski-esque scene setting for a week, and Julia does character design sheets for a week. Seeing very skilled artists actively work on their weaknesses is good to see, as it teaches that one never really stops improving
It'd be especially great with a themed map like one of the 'weird/cool buildings around the world' ones. I bet there's a horse themed one, too. That could be fun! For us, I mean. As the audience.
I've been really enjoying the series of focusing in on one artist doing a thing, it's really nice :) I do really love shapey jacob backgrounds, they're always so pleasant.
For the geoguesser challenge you could collab with one of those content creators who plays geoguesser and guesses where it is based on tiny details. They could try to guess based on your drawings of the locations.
You can tell Jacob is always putting that work in to make his art better and to make Drawfee/SSS as good as possible and I think that’s really admirable.
backgrounds are everything to me. I love that you chose to pursue this for a whole week. This was wonderful and I hope to see more backgrounds from everyone
I would LOVE to see more crazy training montage/technique study videos like this from other drawfee members and even more awesome background practice from Jacob.
He is Drawfees (very exasperated) Dad for a reason. They all form a Drawfee together and it needs all of them. But someone has to drive the car and tell the kids to stop jumping on the bed and that's our Jacob 😋
I really really loved seeing this. I'm an artist myself, and seeing someone tackle a thing they were insecure about and seeing their process is super motivating to me! Makes me want to sit down and get studying as well. Also some genuine pearls of wisdom in this, like the "I usually prefer pose and character work because it's quick to go from nothing to something, whereas in backgrounds, it only starts looking like something proper later on".
Ok but this is legitimately inspirational. It's easy to keep always putting off practicing the areas you find difficult, but it's worth it in the end. Also it's cool seeing Jacob put his own style into these studies and interpret each one in different ways. As someone who tends toward realistic/representational drawing, I want to take a leaf out of Jacob's stylisation book!
Jacob i think this is one of your many strengths, to really (as Julia would phrase it) show your whole ass. It takes a lot of self confidence to show off something you're proud of. And here you are showing all you're least favourite things you say you're struggling with? It's something I really appreciate. Thanks for being you 🌟
Jacob showing and talking about his approach to practicing and developing his skills has been genuinely inspiring for me! I've been trying to have something more like that that attitude myself in life. This was so fun to watch!
Obligatory "I'd love to see the other hosts do this" because I really would love to see the rest of ya'll do this challenge, but with a twist! Pick an art subject that you're terrified of doing, and do studies of it for a week just like Jacob did. Would be nice to see everyone else's progression cuz Jacob did a fantastic job with this one - can't wait to see more background work from him in the next speedraws!
I think Jacob's approach here has radically changed the way I think about my own practicing. I usually get very stuck in a "this must be a perfect reproduction" so I want to try to use some of these exercises to jump that hurdle and free myself up stylistically. Thanks for that ❤
These were all stellar but I truly loved the second one. It really had Jacob vibes with the strong, funky shapes and the lighting was so pleasant and it just felt so fun and warm
I know it was a slow process, which was the conplete opposite of the goal here, but I loved the jitter brush background. I can 100% see that in a kid's book or an illustrated poetry book
Definitely we want to see moar self improvement! you guys learning new things makes us not only entertain and enjoy your beautiful works, but learning ourselves too!
I'm loving all these individual episodes! It's great to get a focus on each of you as artists and see how your process is different. It also gives me a chance to really appreciate each of you :)
I love that Jacob is showing ways of fighting the art fear and learning something new. It would be great to see the others do a challenge like this too. Seeing Karina and Nathan's learning process would be informative and pretty fun. But Julia's challenge should be taking a break! We draw-fans and yams care about her health, and Drawtectives is such a huge projects on top of everything else she does!
Jacob did an amazing job with these studies using his style. The sketchy buildings he simplified and stylized so nicely! He says at the beginning he doesn't have a process for backgrounds but watching him do the last one he has developed a clear 5 step process. And it looks great and was successful at communicating the scene. Great job Jacob you defeated the Art Fear!!!
YES Jacob, it's always so inspiring to get this kind of insight into your practice methods. Seeing various ways to simply the shapes in styles that don't need to be photorealistic to look cool makes practicing backgrounds seem much less intimidating.
The “Background Drawing CHALLENGE” episode is one of my favourite comfort Drawfee episodes. So, I’m super happy and pleased to see another Background-Centred speed draw! This was so relaxing and inspiring to watch.
Do we stop to appreciate each breath we take, each time our heart beats? No, for if we did, we would be able to do little else. We are all constantly appreciating Nathan every second of our day, but to type out each cry of Nathan Adoration as it occurs would lead to us to remain permanently hunched over our keyboards. Just as our general feeling of love for life is an abridged summary of our appreciation for each and every heartbeat and breath, so too is our general love for Drawfee an abridged summary of our infinite instances of appreciation for Nathan.
there's an artist called Maddy Bellwoar who does background paintings from a geoguesser type random location thing and it's great, she started doing it for exactly the reason that she only ever did characters, now she's pretty much only a landscape artist.
This was my first episode of Drawfee, and is still 100% my favourite after a few months of watching you guys. It's after watching this that I started regularly drawing! PLEASE make more stuff like this! I love background work a lot, and these sort of personal progression videos are really inspiring!! :)
this was such a cool idea! i would love to see more of this, i'd love to see all of them doing more backgrounds, i like when they're given a prompt and have to do something with it, like a description of a place, real or fictional, to interpret
as a fellow character obsessed artist, this challenge definitely lights a spark of motivation, specially with the "shortcut" of (or focus on) doing blocky, shapey bgs with nice compositions, since it feels more comfortable than getting lost in the details and ending up making a mess
Completely agree! The pink he pulled out of the first one really shocked me, and then I couldn't stop seeing it. Half of art is just about what you see, so it's fascinating to get to see what other artists see
Wow! I love every single one of these. I feel like the third one didn't get enough love, it was one of my favourites--and I can imagine doing it felt very "trust the process" the whole time. Doing the messy lines would drive me crazy but the end effect is so expressive!
I really really really liked seeing you work on your backgrounds. Not only did I learn a ton by watching you tackle this, but it inspired me to work on my own backgrounds as someone who is also inclined towards focusing on characters and emotion.
ive liked these two episodes so far of basically, one host marathoning. Its fun to just specifically see their process repeatedly, especially this one!
I've watched an art youtuber go on google maps and draw houses that she found. So yes i would watch 'drawing what comes up on geogesser'. The pieces look amazing! Good job Jacob!
I'd say this is one of my favorite drawfee episodes. Its a speedpaint, its full of skill and improvement, and it consists of everyone gushing over said improvement/ skill displayed. It's really motivating to work on some of my own skills. And I'd love to see more of this type of video

Hope it helps, and we are all taking it one step at the time and doing hard things we are kinda scared (for me, its also backgrounds)
Good luck!
@@rochipastrello4403that’s actually such good advice, I’m sure it’s so much easier to start if you have some silly stuff down
I always warm up by drawing random wiggly shapes. Head empty, lines scrungly, no picking up my pen.
It helps me get in that art mood.
Shout out to Jacob. As a fellow background-hating artist this is some impressive dedication to improvement
Great ep!
Agreed! Sometimes it’s easy to forget that everyone has to learn and practice
So true! I don't draw but I like to write, and their growth mindset is still inspirational =D
Jacob's been working so much on his art skills lately, it's incredible! This rules and the backgrounds are great. I hope he's proud of this
@jeg I hope he is too. He did such a great job!
But can we just take a second to appreciate how much Nathan's art has improved!
So true. He just blows others' art away. I can't think of any three artists that are even close.
As someone who is still very much in the amateur range of art, it is super cool to see really good artists still perfecting their ranges!
There really is no limit, there is always something to learn.
Jacob and Julia's relationship dynamic is always jumping the line between duality and dichotomy
This is a perfect description of their dynamic.
The Darling Drawfee Duo's Dynamic of Duality and Dichotomy: A Dissertation.
I am so looking forward to the "we forced Nathan to draw..." and "we forced Julia to draw..." videos which obviously must be the next two uploads
We forced Nathan to draw for 60 min using only yes or no prompts?
We forced Julia to draw cute animals with cowboy hats for 40min? 😁
We forced julia to draw characters from memory (again)
Keep the "I forced..." As if Jacob is just holding everyone else at gunpoint to do art
We forced Nathan to draw anything… without his beard!?!?
@@DarkHarlequin"Is The nOSE ScALe stANdaRT?!!"
Nathan: It is a field.
That really got me. Thank you, Nathan, that was such an important contribution.
as someone who also struggles with backgrounds, this is so helpful - to see the progression from pulling from life to other art, great edutainment from y'all!
I kind of love this format with one week of practice / talking about learning things. This feels like a super good way to combine entertainment and learning. Also I started writing this during the last drawing finishing and now you all are talking about how I should comment. It is a very meta and surreal experience. I'd love to see you all do something like "I added 1 concept from Bob Ross to my paintings each day this week, THE FINAL RESULT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE"
Loving the more casual titling format recently
Ok I gotta be honest at first I wasn't 100% sure how I'd feel about the single artist episodes but then I realized I was simply being a silly goose because you're all truly entertaining and amazing no matter what the prompt is
Honestly, that geoguessr idea sounds like a lot of fun for a stream
22:00 "where should i apply texture" an art teacher mentioned once that "all texture put in the places with the least contrast in value will be lost, so ONLY WASTE YOUR TIME WITH IT IN KEY PARTS WHERE THE EYE IS DRAWN TO THE LIGHT AND DARK CONTRAST" and he changed my life. So in the case of jacobs exercise here it should have heavy texture on the light road marks against the dark ground and then later on the dark tree branches next to the light fog. The rest the eye is not gonna register or care about.
Literally tearing up a little bit about how genuinely beautiful these are and how intensely passionate Jacob is about learning and improving!
It'd be really neat to see something similar with each member :3c so everyone pics a subject they feel they struggle with (backgrounds, interiors, animals, whatevs) and each one does a 7 day challenge of drawing that subject.
For sure, but it's one of those concepts that have to come from within and not be forced on a time schedule, haha.
Karina does painterly aged celebrity portraiture every day for a week, Nathan does Kopinski-esque scene setting for a week, and Julia does character design sheets for a week.
Seeing very skilled artists actively work on their weaknesses is good to see, as it teaches that one never really stops improving
as a certified "audience" I would watch y'all play geoguesser and draw what you get
Yes!
It'd be especially great with a themed map like one of the 'weird/cool buildings around the world' ones. I bet there's a horse themed one, too. That could be fun! For us, I mean. As the audience.
Agreed
This but they don't know where it is until after the drawing is finished
@@tiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa genius
I've been really enjoying the series of focusing in on one artist doing a thing, it's really nice :) I do really love shapey jacob backgrounds, they're always so pleasant.
THIS IS SO GOOD MORE PLEASE!!! Also, Jacob be like "I'm not good at backgrounds" and then busts these out?!? My guy!👏👏👏
For the geoguesser challenge you could collab with one of those content creators who plays geoguesser and guesses where it is based on tiny details. They could try to guess based on your drawings of the locations.
This would be a fun and different collab.
Ooohh that would be cool! They could make it as detailed or stylized as they want, making it easier or harder for the geoguesser
+
This is an awesome idea
+
I respect Jacob's sheer perseverance of doing this, hell yeah Jacob
This. Jacob is for sure the best practicer of the group. His drawfee classes on HOW to actually practice are gold!
I was going to say that these remind me of Jacob's how to practices too! Glad it's not just me. :)
Agreed, I'd love to see an episode two of this somewhere in the future to see whats changed :D
I would love a stream of everyone just doing studies of things they’ve been trying to get better at. This concept is really nice
Honestly yeah I’d love to see each of y’all spend a week working on something you aren’t 100% on :)
SAME
@Sparky6Voltz Yeah, it gives me confidence to improve again
“Myself”
Damn, I can’t believe Drawfee was Jacob the whole time.
His name is Jacob Drawfee
(Scooby Gang voice) Time to see who was behind Jacob Drawfee all along!
...
GASP! Drawfee Jacob???
He is Drawfees (very exasperated) Dad for a reason. They all form a Drawfee together and it needs all of them. But someone has to drive the car and tell the kids to stop jumping on the bed and that's our Jacob 😋
Please do more of these! They’re super informative/inspiring/reassuring for those learning to draw!
I love the dynamic of Julia and Jacob's relationship, they are such opposites in so many ways
Thanks for being you 🌟
Truly! He's a great artist, but one of his biggest strengths is his very intentional view on practicing!
Agree agree agree
Jacob showing and talking about his approach to practicing and developing his skills has been genuinely inspiring for me! I've been trying to have something more like that that attitude myself in life. This was so fun to watch!
Jacob is so damn impressive for doing this, srsly
They all look so good!! And it's so motivating/inspiring
I love it
Obligatory "I'd love to see the other hosts do this" because I really would love to see the rest of ya'll do this challenge, but with a twist!
The third one is soooo “Where the Sidewalk Ends”, nailed the children’s book style
My EXACT thought when he mentioned children’s books, I love it.
That's what I was thinking, too!
I was thinking the exact same thing right before they said child’s 90’s book!!
I'm glad we were all thinking Shel Silverstein 😂
thats exactly what i was thinking too it looks so cool
As someone who also doesn't like drawing backgrounds, this was very inspiring. Good job Jacob! And thank you for sharing this with us!
I think Jacob really found his background style here, i'd love to see more backgrounds from him (once he's emotionally recovered from this)
That Geoguessr/Background situation sounds like a great stream idea
Oh Jacob Andrews, OH JACOB ANDREWS! You make my wrinkly art brain so happy thank you. Maybe this will motivate myself to study backgrounds as well.
This was so relaxing and inspiring to watch.
can we just appreciate nathan? i feel like no one's talking about his growth smh
We love Nathan in this house
LMAO
Really enjoying watching the progress he has made on his art journey tbh.
He has become more confident in himself when it comes to his art
there's an artist called Maddy Bellwoar who does background paintings from a geoguesser type random location thing and it's great, she started doing it for exactly the reason that she only ever did characters, now she's pretty much only a landscape artist.
I'd love to see the other hosts do this. (Esp the version Julia mentioned, where you each focus on growth areas!)
It’s honestly amazing how many colors are in these that I didn’t notice in the original until jacob added them in his!
I really like these deeper dives y'all are doing recently!!! Its a really neat look into your process as artists that I really appreciate
I'd say this is one of my favorite drawfee episodes. Its a speedpaint, its full of skill and improvement, and it consists of everyone gushing over said improvement/ skill displayed. It's really motivating to work on some of my own skills. And I'd love to see more of this type of video
I would definitely love to see more self-improvement stuff from y'all! I feel like I've learned so much from this one episode
Hey Jacob, you really blew it out of the park on this one. Congrats on working past your feelings about this subject and getting out of your comfort zone. You were able to absorb and competently emulate multiple styles over a really short amount of time. You're an impressive artist, man.
