I don’t think I have ever laughed so much in my whole damn life, I am a Kiwi, I drove round Australia, 3 1/2 times, early sixties to early 1970s I helped build the Tom Price railway line from Port Hedland to Tom Price. there was a little bit of bitumen in the Main Street at Port Hedland. No bitumen from Perth to Port Hedland, that could take a week or more, I helped build the camps, up the railway line, tens of thousands of men, mostly from Europe, very few spoke English, a lot had jumped off the iron, ore ships and swam ashore to the beaches. We had a huge number of men running from something. I was dealing with American Vietnam deserters., Waffen SS, all sorts of crazy people from World War II from Europe, 12 hours a day, seven days a week on site, you wanted the day off you left the job. A very solid injury rate., and I number they did die on that railway.
We camped at Albert Tognolini a few nights ago for a couple of days, the flies were relentless but it’s one of our favourite camps in the Pilbara! We are now at Cape Kerauden 🫶 Good on you for exploring the better bits of WA, not many do if you’re not West Australian😢
I hear the first four carriages pay for the lot. We giving the ore away to cheaply. Think it is running at a dollar a tonne for iron ore royalties to the public.

What a treat you two are, “ the flies are always friendly” love your banter, grounded attitude, including the care you share for each other. thanks for another great and informative episode, will come in handy not to far off. Hi guys great to to see that you're still enjoying your selves, I had to laugh at all of the bugs ( they are flying ants .termites to be precise),hunting for a queen to mate n start a New colony, when swarming like that attracted to any light source, gather in large groups and dropping their wings and searching for a queen. Safe travels, i wrk fifo in Newman x sth Australia, should have gone to headland 4 tyre, wouldn't risk it
Cheers Wazza, yeah the bugs were crazy. We passed through Pt headland, and they didn't have our size. we had a tyre repair kit. plus plenty of FIFO workers along the way. 👍
All those wide loads! I used to live in a mining town. I certainly don't miss dodging the wide loads when they were moving bits and pieces of mining machinery along the highway.
We did a lot of outback travel , like the Gibb twice, the Donahue and others, however when we got our 4t van built I insisted that van and car tyres must be interchangeable so we had 3 spares, we used 2 on one trip on the Gibb. Enjoyed your trip so far
Bar's Bugs is the business, been using for over 45 years. For an outback/bush trip I use almost a full bottle to half per 6.5 litre washer bottle (depending on the trip/time of the year/bug splats) and keep a bit to wet my squidgy when I'm at water to clean off the bugs. ¼ bottle for the usual around town.trips. I buy the large as I can get (3 to 5 litre concentrate) to top the Bar's Bugs bottle. No it's not all scary out there, just a good prep and intrepid attitude. I've done a fair but of the bush on a GSXR1100 sports bike, so yes treading the safety margin... hahaha Cheers Gaz

Lovely dog ... Dogs do suffer by being confined in small spaces while travelling.
