    So after reading all the comments, in Michigan where I live it it mostly back roads so my City driving is probably not as often of stopping as say driving in New York or a bigger metropolitan area. I will say that I have done this test now 3 times each time going a little further, the last time I put 100 miles on one and I averaged 20.3 MPG over a hundred miles.

    I have a 2018 5.3 L - four-door Silverado with just 5000 miles on it. My gas mileage is horrible and horrific! I average between 10 and 12 miles per gallon in the city when the EPA says 16 and 20. Chevrolets dashboard estimates
    are not accurate.You have to fill up your gas tank record your mileage, drive your truck ,Fill up your gas tank again, record your mileage, subtract the numbers and divide it into gallons of gas purchased. This is the only way to get a accurate miles per gallon, Yes the old-fashioned way. Chevrolets dashboard estimates are always higher than I am actually getting. I am so disgusted and disappointed in the gas mileage of this truck.
    When I complained to the dealership
    (Colussy Chevrolet) They said unless there is a check engine light on there is nothing they can do. She blamed it on my driving habits and I told her I baby the truck and try to keep it in four cylinder mode as much as possible. There should be a class action lawsuit against General Motors for false advertising.

    Did the truck have the 5.3 V8? I have a 19 Sierra with the 4.3 V6 and it's terrible on gas. I get about 14 mpg in the city. I firmly believe the big hood, increased height, and bulkiness of the body is creating too much wind resistance thus causing the motor to work harder and use more fuel to keep the truck moving. Considering the fuel economy that GM's main rivals Ford and Dodge are getting on their trucks, this is a big error on GM's part.

    • @ChevroletGuru
      @ChevroletGuru  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This truck in this video was a 5.3L V8, there are a lot of factors that go into gas mileage. During winter time you can expect less fuel economy because gas stations will switch over to winter blend fuel which gets a lot less mpg then summer blend. If it is cold where you live that will affect gas mileage as well, if you have just recently gotten your truck and have not gone over roughly 5000 miles then your truck has not passed its programming period (the vehicle will learn how you drive and change the shift points based on your driving habits) also usually after first oil change the vehicle will start to get better fuel economy

    • @joeraptor1
      @joeraptor1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChevroletGuru Thanks for the feedback. I live in Canada. Winter fuel economy definitely decreases. My truck only has 1200 km (about 800 miles). The first oil change was just completed. When I spoke to the dealer, they told me that modern engines are usually broken in by 1 000 km. The 5.3 I had on my 2010 Sierra got almost the same as this 4.3 V6 is getting but the 19 is supposed to be about 400 lbs lighter. I hope my fuel economy improves but I just feel that the bulkiness of the truck plus that huge hood is creating too much wind resistance and making the truck work harder.

      @@sugarlow5245 Did you just get your truck? If so you wont get full optimum gas mileage until after your first oil change generally. If your located in a colder climate that hurts fuel economy as well. Gasoline that is sold right now is winter blend which also hurts fuel economy.

I think they program the computer to read high at first so more people buy them. Also I took a new style 5.3 crew 400 slower hwy miles and only got 19.5 mpg, the old style would have got 21

No wind total dead calm. I have it on video have to get on TH-cam. Check my simple vid look up GMC Elevation 2.7 MPG's Miami . That's my first vid. Towed a boat from Key Largo, Fla to Miami 4500 lbs 14-15 mpg.. Remember people we are Flat land down here. Now i have had 21-22 Mpg Hwy with head winds of 10-12 mph. The OK Gas Pump Test is always better in gas milage then what shows as mpg in pickup. I do manage 20-22 city here in Miami more outside the inner city. I have managed 24 city when we had cooler nights and i opened up windows and A/C was off and no traffic.
