Sir, I just want to say THANK YOU for being so prescient about the PCV issue; When you provided this info hardly anyone was mentioning it which saved me all the trouble that now so many people had the misfortune to endure
Bit of advice as i've just done this job, have a solder bolt at the ready!!U'll get to that later, the large orange seal at the turbo, when you replace it it has little round raised location tabs that fit up into holes in the black plastic air induction plastic, inspect these holes in the air intake carefully for little cracks!! If the cracks are there melt them clised with a solder bolt, the new orange seal is thicker as it hasn't been compressed like the okd one,if you have any cracks in your black intake that meets the turbo they will spread and crack further when you tighten the jubilee clip at the turbo! The new seal is difficult to fit over the turbo as it's thicker,it puts a lot of stress on the plastic intake!!Be prepared for damage!
the PCV also works as centrifugal separator. The suction is from the center high up. and the breather vapor is coming in from tangent. So oil is been thrown to the outer edge and drops down from the air. Then it leaks back down to the breather when you let of the throttle.
Excellent video . This gentelmen show you exactly what to do to protect your engine against wearing out so quick .Because borning engine oil will create high temperature , and will melt piston and fuel injectors . If you replace those few dollars pants you save your engine and lots of money for replacing the engine and for mechanic . Excellent . You show us Real engine killer .
You absolutely right , it’s very important to take a look about that partical component. But next time I would also clean that oil what still left there , because nobody wants fire ( hot engine + Oil) or maybe the connection from the Rail or the copper seal from the Injector is leaking that would be also dangerous.
Thanks I was able to change my pcv valve and turbo intake seal before the leak got too bad. Also put on a new egr and my engine has gotten more quite and runs better

Thank you for this useful video! I have a newly purchased CLS 320 and was unaware of these issues. Thanks to your video, I will order the parts and thanks for showing how to do the DIY work which means I can do the work myself ensuring its done right.
Well done - unfortunately I found you too late as I ened up having issues and had to replace what you outlined, all after the fact. Are there other maintenance items you recommedn? I have a 2007 E320 Bluetec with 105K miles on it. Simply love the car and considering it's worth basically nothing in the marketplace , it's worth a lot more to me and worth keeping in great shape. If you cover what I'm asking in prior videos, I'll find them.
Hi. Great job on these videos. I really appreciate them. I have a 2008 GL320 with about 200K. I rescued it from an abusive situation. I have the swirl flap motor issue and did the resistor fix as a temporary solution, which worked but the vehicle still goes in to limp mode occasionally. Once I restart the engine it’s back in normal mode. I’ve checked the resistor value and it’s fine. I’m thinking the residual oil build up in the connector may be causing a poor connection sometimes. So, I’m debating the swirl flap delete. I also need to change the oil cooler gaskets so I’m following all your instructions on that including the glow plugs. My question is, what is the advantage of NOT deleting the swirl flap motor and instead cleaning everything maniacally, changing the turbo and air intake seals, and then monitoring for any oil leaks ongoing? Thank you. I realize there are no “right” answers but I value your opinion.
Thanks for a very informative video I recently overhauled my om642 but couldn't figure out why the oil level was dropping but i did notice oil around the intercooler pipes
Great video and very useful . The only problem is the Vaico pcv valve you used , for this engine Only use original mercedes pcv valve. your oil consumption will be minimum . When i replaced mine first with Vaico i had to top up 1L of oil after only 2000 km and and then when replaced with original part from mercedes no oil top up needed between services .
Thank you for the video and the parts info you pass on--saw my bluetec had quite a puddle of oil under it and after putting it up on a lift and investigating, pretty much came to the conclusion it was coming from the oil fill port--only thing I could figure would cause that to happen would be a clogged pcv valve. Parts are ordered--Thanks!
I took some 5/8" high temp high pressure rubber hose to a oil catch can circuit then sliced tube between pcv & turbo midway & plumbed it in. turbo inlet very dry now more importantly valley below dry too.
One word of advice... Make sure that the top part of the oil catcher, where it might have or has a sponge, never gets clogged. Otherwise, you will have oil come out of the engine through the dipstick tube or some other place due too much pressure inside of the engine. So, make constantly clean the oil catcher...
Thanks for your advice to becareful with this components. How do you know the PCV must be replaced? or just a preventive action? Should I also change the breather hose? BTW, I change these orange turbo seals everytime I change diesel filter, and I buy them at the MB service.
It is more of a preventive action... Just make sure that you don't buy it from the dealer, it will cost you an arm and a leg. You can buy it genuine or OEM online for a lot less. I'll give you a real example, RBM of Atlanta Georgia, wanted a $1000 for a 220 amps alternator for a 2013 Mercedes Sprinter, while Rock Auto sells it online OEM (Valeo 220 amps new) for $380. Same exact part $ 600+ less than the dealership.
04:13 Can you use a lubricant to help place the orange seal back into place over turbo ?, mine was stubborn and would not fully engage. What would you use for that lube please anyone ??
Hi, thanks for the videos. I have a 2009 E320 with the crazy side mounted filter housings. Can you show a trick on how to break the flexible air hose inlet to those to make it easier to pull out the housing? The driver side is particularly difficult.
Yes it does work on the same principal... And yes it does leak oil with time and needs to be replaced. This is the reason why Mercedes requires a 229.51 oil for the diesel engines that have DPF systems. The 229.51 is a low Ash/Soot oil, which means that when it burns it has far less parts per million emitted vs regular oils. Most of the oil used by modern engines is used through the crankcase ventilation system, due to the fact that vacuum/suction of the engine is used to ventilate the crankcase of the engine. On older engines no vacuum/suction was used for ventilation.
Any tips on getting the intake with the MAF’s to properly seat both air filter boxes? Always seems like it’s made just a tad too short to me and requires a lot of finesse to get it right.
Hi man, thank you very much for guidance. I have done the job and is all good however when I replaced the main red seal on the plastic air inlet the plastic snapped :(. I have used tape around it for until I find the part. It is so expensive :( around £200. any suggestions
I have a couple 211 diesels.. my 08 has 123,000 miles afther seeing this video I opened up my Bluetech and saw that it was leaking. Thanks for the heads up!
You never showed how you replaced the gaskets and where the second (smaller) gasket goes... Is it the one at 3:55? Or do these 2 red gaskets go together somehow in the same place? I'm sorry, it might be self explanatory for some but I'm as dumb as it gets when it comes to any mechanical stuff.
Hello and thanks for the informative video. I ended up here looking for tips on P1402 and P1408 while car is in limp mode. Any ideas greatly appreciated! 2008 R320 CDI
the Diesel engine is hard to beat in terms of reliability, fuel economy, and power - if maintained properly. The biggest thing you'll need to worry about with the 2008 diesels is the DPF filter clogging or not regenerating - I don't believe the e320 has the adblue system. There are a few "Delete" options you can explore, but we haven't had any issues with our 3.0L sprinters we use for our delivery company - you can force DPF regen using tools like the iCarsoft MB2 via OBD
Big thank you, video on this fault longer over due,I've deleted my swirl flap motor last year,I'm now having turbo problem i think caused by defect pcv valve
I have a 648 and a 642. The gt2359v was coming apart @ 149k on the 648. I also have to rebuild the gt2056v on the 642 (160k) today. I believe the actual problem is engine oil quality and change intervals. I have had several 617 cars well over 300k without a worn-out turbo. I've put on 30k since the rebuild last year (05 e320 cdi) and the car is a rocketship. Zero turbo lag. I'm using amsoil signature series 5w40 diesel (suitable for dpf+def systems). So far no oil consumption between oil changes.
Alex from LegitStreetCars brought me here and I'm glad he did! MBDieselFreak - I've got an '09 ML320 which has had the DPF & SCR & DEF systems deleted; however the car still appears to be burning a lot of oil. I'm about to replace the PCV Valve as per your video's recommendation but is there anything else that you may know of that could cause it to burn lots of oil; I have to top it up with a Quart nearly every 7-10 days! not sure if that's normal but it sure wasn't like the prior to deleting the DPF
@@MBDieselFreak I doubt it's either of those and hope it's not either of those because it didn't burn oil prior to having the DPF Deleted so I'd highly doubt in just one weeks time the rings were toast after deleting the DPF and having the SAM re-tuned. I'm lost for ideas!
@@Docbrut My R320 CDI is also deleted. I also had the oil cooler seals replaced, you may be losing oil from there. Sometimes you don't see an oil puddle in your parking because the belly pan has these foam like material (for sound deadening) that can absorb any drippings.
Hi I'm a car mechanic and I need your help! I have a mercedes C350 CDI and there is an oil leak from a hole on the engine block! This hole is situated on the right side of the engine (driver side) near the gear box just above the crankshaft sensor! If I bock this hole, the oil will start leaking from other sealings such as crankshaft sealing etc. I think there is a pressure being built inside the engine and I can't figure out how and why! Any advice please?
I appreciate your video and hope you can provide some possible insight to a problem that I'm trying to narrow down. My 2011 MB Sprinter 3.0 diesel has a noticeable engine speed fluctuation while holding a steady throttle. It typically begins anywhere above 2000 rpm. This is a very rhythmic and consistent surge or fluctuation. This occurs when parked and not in motion, or when I was driving at 30 mph or any other speed. There are no apparent codes that come up. We've traced all possible sources, including getting the ECU retuned, replacing the turbo and the actuator. Any idea if these could be causing this surge?
Have you replaced the Map sensor? I was chasing something weird like that. I initially thought it was Turbo. Decided the Map sensor was a cheaper shot in the dark, all the problems went away. Mpg is back. Runs the way it should.
Thanks, for sure! I just received my new PCV to change the older one. I saw in your video that you made some repairs in the air inlet, close to the MAF (both sides). I have similar problem in my OM642 (a6420900042). So, please, how do you fixed it?
I would highly recommend that om642 owners do a catch can mod as well. A catch can eliminates the problem of oil vapors going in the intake. The intake system will stay much cleaner this way.
Do a quick Google search on "om642 intake flap resistor delete". You dont have to replace it, you can just delete that motor and put a resistor in the electrical connector to prevent check engine lights.
Hi, how are you? I have a 2008 Mercedes E320 Bluetec diesel. The engine shutting off when drive. I already changed the high pressure fuel pump, fuel injectors, pressure sensor, fuel pump at the tank, intake, turbine actuator. The check engine code is about low pressure. Nobody from Mercedes specialist shops want to see the car. Do you have any idea about this problem? When the car is stopped, the engine never stop. Thank you so much.
@MBDieselFreak hey, could you please confirm if this the upgraded version: 6420940480 and 6420940580? Mine is a 08 w221 s320cdi OM642930.I appreciate your help
Just changed mine. It closed fine when sucking from engine side but I put a Hoover on the turbo side and it did not close. Do you know why? It looked fine inside.
Gosh I really really appreciate you and your videos. I've owned a lot of cars and my 2007 e320 bluetec is my second MB diesel. And, while I'm not afraid to do repair work, this cars engine is the most complicated I have ever owned. I just did the PCV valve abd replaced the boot. Super easy. I also took the car to the local MB dealer to read the check engine code. MAS and after cat oxygen sensor was indicated and I changed both myself. My light is still on and my android OBD2 reader says it is P0101 Mass or Volume Air Flow A circuit. Any ideas?
Look at the airfilters. They are a bit tricky to change. So they are staying mostly longer unchanged, then they should be. Control the airmass-sensor although.
@@Phoselectric Unfortunately not. I changed out the whole mass airflow sensor including the its ducting and, both airflow sensors. Light is still on. It runs great and gets up to 37 MPG on the highway so I stopped chasing that gremlin.
Good morning, can you please help me, I have a MERCEDES GLE 350 D 2017 Engine 642 826 is the same care required, is the PCV valve system the same as in previous engines? thank you very much for your time
Hi is it possible that that pressure control valve starts smoking? Just noticest the other day smoke coming from under the hood and when i took a look it give me that impression.
hey man great content!! I just got a 2013 gl 350d. This has the same motor right? this will be the first thing i check out when it arrives! Are the 350d engines realiable and last long? this one has 100000km
Hi. I got a 320 cdi v6 3.0 and got a problem with O2 sensor(s) , I replace it with a Bosch one(110£) but my mechanic say me should be 2 like minimum ,we spend 1 h and find just one, after replacement of old O2 sensor errors (was3) disappear but come another error instead P2195 . How to fix this one now??? If someone knows how ti fix it or cause please let me know. Thanks for videos ,really good content
And can you do a video on replacing the fuel filter on the OM642? I want to do it but looking down at the engine it looks just jammed in and other stuff thrown around it. (The last fuel filter I replaced was on my 87 300SDL!)
When the time comes to do a fuel filter replacement on one of my 2 om642 vehicles, I absolutely will! It's a pretty easy job, just loosen the Alan head screw that tightens the hold down clamps for the filter and it slides right out!
I have a 2007 320 CID v6 on the turbo intake I have oil and it seems it`s not just from vapor .... need to check this valve .... hope it`s not too late !!! :D
It takes YEARS of neglect for excessive oil leakage past that PCV to cause any type of damage, if any at all! Just change that valve when you've got some free time, you will be fine. :)
@@MBDieselFreak there is not a drop of oil on the engine or anywhere, just that on the enter of the turbo there is some oil so I'll just change that thing and lets hope the oil gonna be gone.
Hi, I have the same car, same mileage. Had you had any fault codes? My E320 went into limp mode, and had 2 fault codes in November. After taking it to a shop, they replaced fuel filter, and checked for leaks, they claimed my fuel line was full of soot! It had to be cleaned manually. They replaced or so the receipt states the EGR cooler kit/seals and gaskets. I was charged half the value of my car! And I’ve taken it back 2 more times due to check engine light and limp mode, basically the same reason I took it to them in the first place. Last time they had my car 5 1/2 weeks, and replaced the turbo actuator at no charge, but it still wasn’t fixed. The manager told me it’s probably the DPF filter is probably clogged, but they are equipped to clean it. The mileage has improved, but still goes into limp mode. Latest code was P0299. That’s the first time I’ve had that one. Any ideas? I love my car, but I can’t keep spending thousands on it.
Thank you for the video. Will this part fit also 2012 S350? According to EPC correct part# for S350 is 6420102491 which include hose and it is double the price. I would prefer to keep original hose and replace only the valve if possible. Thank you.
One of the most annoying and costly potential issues on the otherwise excellent omp64 is the oil breather seals ! Jeeze … why did my install this thing buried deep in the ‘v’.
I didnt delete the EGR, the Intake flap motor can be deleted with a "resistor trick". check my om642 oil cooler seals video on how to do that resistor trick.
He didn't delete anything. He simply tricked the ECU. There is no way to completely delete the EGR, as example. We call it a "EGR delete", but in reality what is done by tuners, is a remap of the operational programming of the EGR. The EGR is reprogrammed to stays closed at any RPMs or operational range of the engine. That is the same with the intake manifold flaps, they stay open at any operational ranges of the engine. DPF/ DEF and Lambda requires remap and delete of the DTC trouble codes, which simply means that the check engine light will never come on if you disconnect a Nox sensor as an example, because there is no code for that since it's been erased from the memory of the ECU. It is very easy to do modifications on EDC16 ECUs. EDC17 ECUs are a lot more complicated due to the encryption of the tricore chips/processors used in them.
When I took my air intake going into the turbo off there was oil in there. It was inside the turbo, this isn't normal right? Anyone know? My car only has 75k miles but I want it to last a long time.
Hi, did you have certain symptoms that made you replace these items? Mine is bucking between 1000 and 2000 rpms in lower gears. Dealer is guessing what it could be. Don’t feel confident about that. They suggest i change out the turbo. Not being sure it will fix the problem. Want to be sure, before i do that. Tnx in advance.
Thank you very much for this video! At what mileage or at what age do you recommend to replace these two parts "preventively" ? I have a 2013 GL Bluetec with 65K miles. Thank you.
I did change the PCV valve on my 2008 Sprinter every 50k and didn't have any issues with DPF or intake manifolds. At 260k I completely modified the software and got rid of DPF/EGR/EKAS/TPS/Lambda systems. I would advise you to change the PCV valve every 40-50k, or every time you change the fuel filter. You can do about 50k, base on my own experience, on a good MANN or Hengst fuel filter. Your 2013 GL most likely takes this PCV valve... See the link below.. www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/WC/96182-01289532.html?YN&PartsGeek+Google+Base&+Mercedes+Sprinter+3500+Crankcase+Vent+Valve+Genuine+10-18+Mercedes+Crankcase+Vent+Valve+2011+2013&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrdb7z6Hj5AIVyMDACh13sQE6EAQYAyABEgKzW_D_BwE Or if you can post the last 8 digits of the VIN number, I can look it up in Mercedes' EPC/WIS and tell you exactly which PCV valve your GL takes.
HI, I am from the Philippines and Jeep parts are not readily available. Is it possible to just clean the PCV? In addition, may I ask for the part number of the turbo inlet seal? I understand that the orange seal has been replaced by a black seal. Thanks in advance
After replacing this part, I can tell you the answer is no. The plastic cap valve inside the one I replaced was deformed on my OM642 from the intense heat over 125 thousand miles. I guess you could come up with a fix using a 3-D printer.

I've put on 30k since the rebuild last year (05 e320 cdi) and the car is a rocketship. Zero turbo lag. I'm using amsoil signature series 5w40 diesel (suitable for dpf+def systems).
So far no oil consumption between oil changes.
Hi, and thank you for this video!.
How much do you tight that turbo inlet clamp?...is there any torque spec. for the clamps?
Alex from LegitStreetCars brought me here and I'm glad he did!
MBDieselFreak - I've got an '09 ML320 which has had the DPF & SCR & DEF systems deleted; however the car still appears to be burning a lot of oil. I'm about to replace the PCV Valve as per your video's recommendation but is there anything else that you may know of that could cause it to burn lots of oil; I have to top it up with a Quart nearly every 7-10 days! not sure if that's normal but it sure wasn't like the prior to deleting the DPF
Erik Fahlman are you absolutely sure that the oil is being BURNED? or is it possible that it's leaking when driving?
Typically burning oil is caused by bad piston rings or leaky valve stem seals.
@@MBDieselFreak It's coming out the tail pipe and is blueish white in color so I'd assume it's burning oil
Do you have a video on how to change the swirl flap motor (2014 gl350 bluetec)?
Hi
I'm a car mechanic and I need your help!
Did you had reprogram ecu for flap motor delete?
Thanks for your tutorial video!
What was the solution? I have a similar problem
Have you replaced the Map sensor? I was chasing something weird like that. I initially thought it was Turbo. Decided the Map sensor was a cheaper shot in the dark, all the problems went away. Mpg is back. Runs the way it should.
@@bryceweaver8211 I don't believe it was checked or replaced, and will give that a try! Thanks!
Could the pressure control valve cause an issue with the performance of the vehicle?
Thanks, for sure! I just received my new PCV to change the older one.
I saw in your video that you made some repairs in the air inlet, close to the MAF (both sides). I have similar problem in my OM642 (a6420900042). So, please, how do you fixed it?
I would highly recommend that om642 owners do a catch can mod as well. A catch can eliminates the problem of oil vapors going in the intake. The intake system will stay much cleaner this way.
Do you have any recommendations on how to get it done? I'm a new om642 owner
I did just that, installed an Austrailian made aluminum billet catch can that also has a built in pressure relief valve.
Anyone have a link to one?
@@semperfly Provent 200 , expensive but the best .
Yep, got 2 MLs, put catch cans on both. Did the resistor trick on the swirl flap motors too. 300,000klm on one and no troubles.
Hi great video....I need to replace the oil damaged servo. Do you have a video on this replacement process please?
Hi, im wondering how do you know a part its been upgraded? Im looking for this excat valve, but i dont want to buy an olfer versión.
Hey I have a Mercedes E320 blue tech 2007 also!
I have the same codes popping up with the mass airflow sensor.
We’re you able to figure it out?
@@Phoselectric Unfortunately not. I changed out the whole mass airflow sensor including the its ducting and, both airflow sensors. Light is still on. It runs great and gets up to 37 MPG on the highway so I stopped chasing that gremlin.
@@Phoselectric what’s the MB rated mileage for your car? …something close to what you see now?
@@RobertDoyle1 What’s the MB rated MPG for your vehicle? …something close to what you do see now (37)? Thank you!😊
What are the symptoms that the PCV needs replaced?
thanks for your video. it's very useful.
The PCV been faulty, could it cause smoke from the exhaust at tickover?
Good morning, can you please help me, I have a MERCEDES GLE 350 D 2017 Engine 642 826 is the same care required, is the PCV valve system the same as in previous engines? thank you very much for your time
Does this parts have an equivalency on the W166 ML350? Or this engine (evolution) doesn't use this PCV or Seals? Thanks
Hi is it possible that that pressure control valve starts smoking? Just noticest the other day smoke coming from under the hood and when i took a look it give me that impression.
Isn't it better to replace the membrane itself? well, unless it doesn't come separately and you have to buy the whole thing
Hi i have aW164 and it smokes like crazy , i discover oil on the turbo & the orange seal is torn could those be the cause I need help please
hey man great content!! I just got a 2013 gl 350d. This has the same motor right? this will be the first thing i check out when it arrives! Are the 350d engines realiable and last long? this one has 100000km
I’m looking at buying a W222 S300 Bluetec. Any thoughts on this motor for maintenance and reliability?
Hi there, I got a gl350 and get this P02CF code, it is idling roughly, like it is misfiring, could that possibly be a vacuum leak?
Great video, thanks for sharing it!
Thanks for videos ,really good content
i just got a 2016 e250 2.1 TT, with 31,000km. When should I do the maintenance?
Hi mate,
Would recommend any oil additive like liqui moly CeraTec for this kind of engine?
Thanks in advance
Does the PCV affect your EGR valve ?
How often are you supposed to replace those parts?
Excellent, thank you for the info.
Hi! How do i know if the PCV valve is failing? Thanks a lot!!
I have a 09 e320 bluetec with 83k miles, I'm going to do these repairs. This video is very helpful. You have 3 parts listed I need all 3?
Thank you for the great video!
can you tell me at what mileage should i get this done on my ml350 bluetec 2015
Hey there I have a gl 350 and I’m getting remaining starts count down and codes p2201 and p229f what can I do thanks
How did you delete the swirl flap motor?
What vehicle?
Thank you very much for this insight!
Does this apply to the E220 and E350 W212 diesel engines too?
Thank you for the video. Will this part fit also 2012 S350? According to EPC correct part# for S350 is 6420102491 which include hose and it is double the price. I would prefer to keep original hose and replace only the valve if possible. Thank you.
The CCV part shown in this video WILL NOT fit a 2012 OM642 engine. Mercedes updated the design in 2011+ OM642 diesel engines.
One of the most annoying and costly potential issues on the otherwise excellent omp64 is the oil breather seals ! Jeeze … why did my install this thing buried deep in the ‘v’.
Thia was really helpfull! I'm newby with om642!
Is there a similar part for the 2.1L
How did you delete the EGR and the Intake Swirl Motor? Doesn't the ECU check for it and show a CEL when its missing?
Are 2014 E250 bluetec reliable diesel engines? might consider
Thanks, very good and useful video
I’m located in Clinton Township MI.
Do you work on vehicles? I have a 2014 ml350 bluetec and need some work.
Mine had that problem too. A good transmission flush did the trick. Every 50k. Make sure they get the torque converter too.
@@semperfly had done that already. Changed out the turbo. That did the trick for me. Variable blades were sticking
Can you please conform the part number for the orange?
I think it’s 6420940180, and not the 6420940480 you mentioned.
Hi Man. Did you actualy used recistor 4.7kohm to delay your swirl flaps??
Software

HI,
I am from the Philippines and Jeep parts are not readily available.
