Thank you for this. I’ve seen a lot of obsessive content about controlling “blood sugar spikes.” I think in general Americans do eat too many carbs and processed food, but there’s no need to eliminate them completely. I’ve also seen creators tell their viewers that LDL levels don’t matter. That’s insane advice. Also, thank you for mentioning the elitism surrounding these diet trends! I work with a poor population that cannot afford to eat a carnivore or even low carb diet and still get enough calories and nutrients. People have no idea how bad it can be unless they’ve seen it for themselves.
Thank god you guys are talking about these topics! I am SO sick of the pseudoscience bullshit we see on social media! Especially those with ZERO credentials! I wish there was more education on nutrition in grade school/high school! We are failing our country!!
Is unqualified millionaire Bobby P. still putting butter in his coffee in the morning? I don't think a lack of nutrition courses in high school is our main problem with quackery because the trouble makers who don't pay attention in class and mock the teacher are probably the same people who started presenting conspiracy theories later in life, claiming standard food pyramid is wrong and is making people sick. They (we know how the carnivore promoters are) were probably mocking authority figures and not listening in class, while in medical school, as well. I don't buy the "they don't teach nutrition in medical school". University is not just about teaching you things you can use on the job. It's about teaching you how to think critically.
dr idz is only quoting studies funded by the food industry with no peer review. he is a shill for the food industry to feed us all their hydroginated, chemical processed crap
Actually, I talked to a Dr and several dieticians at Harvard Medical School because of all the crazy diets out there on TH-cam. Among the many things they said.....Seed oils are Not good for anyone, and insulin spikes are terrible for people whether they are diabetic or not. I guess it's everyone's choice, but I choose not to use them with the exception of olive oil, and insulin spikes just sound like something no one needs. jmho
Thank you for this. I'm am legit terrified of the total inability of most people to understand basic causal relationships, or to have even the slightest idea of how misinformed they are. I'm a Yank and y'all saw what just happened here. (Not saying it was just ignorance and inability to think, because of course there's also the misogynoir factor.)
I agree with this but I want to add that I do understand why people are turning to alternatives (and its sad that they get taken advantage of in the process). Especially the chronically ill who openly express how let down they feel by the existing medical system. It is hard to trust an industry that has openly said they can't help you or you cannot access the help you need because specialist appointment costs are through the roof.
Hey Abbey, amazing interview, loved it so much! Just flagging the music in your pre-outro talking at the end? Not sure if two tracks lauered on top of each other but it was so messy i could barely focus on what you were saying. Otherwise amazing, thank you for all you do!
Such a good discussion!! Love how they emphasised that people have a tendency of conflating reasoning. On that note, basically DON'T LISTEN to Glucose Goddess, Bobby Parrish, Dr Gunther, Dr Berg, Paul Saladino, Liver King, and anyone that talks about "hormone balancing", "cortisol face" or preaches avoiding seed oils, nitpicking on toxins and ingredients, eat beef/butter, avoid vegetables, avoid carbs. My only contention is that we should reduce eating ultraprocessed foods.
Eric Berg has improved over time. He doesn't post misinformation about things he doesn't understand, as much anymore. For a while, he was presenting eating a keto diet and intermittent fasting as the solution to every imaginable health problem. Now, he rarely talks about keto at all anymore. I'm a prediabetic (it's from a genetic problem and not something that's lifestyle related: people need to understand that the skinny, active patients tend to have low insulin resistance and type 1 tendencies, and are different from most of them). I find Nicola Guess, Roy Taylor and Mario Kratz are so much better than the others, that it's pointless to watch anybody else. It hadn't surprised me that Bobby Parrish had gone to Dunkin Donuts, held up a drink, and said, "Aha! Look at all the sugar in this concoction! Why do you think there's so many diabetics in the US? It's products like these!". If only diabetes it was that simple: "When we eat too much sugar laden junk food, our bodies can't handle all of that sugar, and it tends to pile up in our blood.". A one-size-fits-all solution doesn't exist. It's a complex, multifactorial condition.
Could you please do a video about the ridiculousness of comments under anything to do with food. Like someone makes a recipe post, and all you see in the comments are people saying 'omg why are you cooking with that? It'll give you cancer!" Like, dude youre wrong, but also theyre not forcing you to make it, chill.
i wish Bite Back was a separate TH-cam channel..notifications and titles seem to have no inidcator of what it is. i enjoy many of Abbey's vids. i enjoy podcasts. but i prefer to know what i'm getting into before i click play
💥FINALLY💥Abbey always brings us the real story‼️❤️ He is right on about these alarmists touting the low and even level glucose… I just watched a video from Dr. Rhonda, and one of the comments actually was “so much glucose!!”, And I just had to laugh🎉
As always Abbey you are a very intelligent and eloquent person. I appreciate with my entire heart the help you and the doctor you invited, because it does confirm the information from my dietician and other specialists I have been to, like a colorectal surgeon etc... I say this because you also help with people like me that used to have panic attacks because of this very subject so you're always valuable and so helpful with everything you do. Wishing all the health and tranquility you deserve. Thank you
I feel like maybe we’re missing the point with some of these diets. For example Paul Saladino and the animal based diet. If you actually listen to him he’s not advocating for everyone to follow this diet. Just that people who have autoimmune disorders can find that these diets exponentially help their symptoms and flare ups. Not sure what’s so wrong with following a diet that makes you feel good if you’ve been sick for a long long time due to seed oils/certain veggies. Often times we can use these as elimination diets until you feel good and then slowly start reintroducing foods 🤷♀️
Paul is just saying that now to save face after so many people started thinking he was incompetent. He had come up with a plausible cop out. As a registered MD, he could get in a lot of trouble if anybody complains about him giving advice out in public that causes harm. That's unprofessional conduct. First Shawn Baker... he won't be the last.
Carnivore actually *can* be a good elimination diet, you're right, but it's completely nutritionally insufficient in the long run, and that certainly isn't what Saladino is saying (and even less so what he said in the past). Most of his followers are still going for carnivore as a full-time long-term diet and that is nothing short of dangerous. He's an MD and should know better; he's likely harming many people with his content.
I really appreciate your efforts! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
We've all been there! I used to be fully on the paleo train back in the day... I wouldn't even eat beans because of the lectins lmao. It feels ridiculous now, but I believed it back then!
03:52 We evolved without them, and it is only in the last 100 years that they have entered the food chain, so to say no is FOOL hardly? POV: Find what works best for you, regardless of which eating protocol you follow.
I followed you until you said fridges are expensive. Is cheap now our standard of goodness? How expensive are the materials to manufacture these “cheap” products? And how much stress are those workers put under? There’s a lot more to think about when it comes to “progress” in food science.
@ I meant following the logic. The point I want to make is that it seems cost is the only concern and we are not taking into consideration the cost of producing “cheap” food. What can be more cheap than a backyard garden and a chicken coop? If we want to measure the real cost of food, we must look at the bigger picture.
The concept of health in "The 23 Former Doctor Truths" book completely explains this. I wish I read it sooner
Oh shiiiit, so here for this collab! Two of my favorite creators 😍
You’re both so reassuring and comforting, as weird as it may sound.
