My dad was given seats seat by some dude at the legion the day of the original set game. It was a rain out game they played at night. They weren't going many more innings before calling it. We lived in VT, we weren't coming back the next day....fortunately Fisk the Vermont born, NH native fixed that. I was 9, I barely remember it . The most vivid memory was Fisk doing a victory run after the home run around the field and some dude running out there and Boston PD just wearing him out with batons...good lesson for a 9 year old.
I remember this series as really crazy. I'm a Red's fan, but I tip my hat to the Red Sox for such tenacious play. It made the whole series the most exciting I've ever watched.
And Jim Rice was out of the line up which was a big loss for the Sox. Poor Cecil Cooper, who was an above average power hitter was stone cold. I think he had only one hit.Cincinnati really had it all up and down their lineup with fantastic pitchers to boot. Sparky Anderson’s pulling pitcher quickly hurt him in this game as Eastwick was running on fumes.
Carlton Fisk said in an interview that the last time Pete Rose was at bat late in the game, he commented to Fisk that this was the greatest game ever played and how lucky they both were to be playing in it. That statement fired up Carlton to hit his home run in the 12th. good story. It was this series that I became a Red Sox fan. I think still to this day, this was the most exciting nail biting world series ever played. Never a dull moment.
I was 11 years old and diehard Reds fan.But like Rose said, greatest game he ever played in.The double play in the 9th Foster to Bench.Denny Doyle on 3rd thought the coach said go,go,go but he was saying no,no,no. Crowd noise
given the fact that this game was delayed for 3 days due to rain rose said to his manager sparky anderson,"skip, wasnt this the greatest game ya ever been in?" sparky looked at him and said "pete i know your crazy but im going to have a hard time sleeping over this game and you think this is the greatest game?" pete said "dont worry skip will beat em tomorrow."
You got that right brother. And no matter what you think of Pete Rose, he was a guy who really loved the game. That makes the tragic consequences of what he did all the sadder.
Carbo’s home run, a under-rated beautiful catch (there really is no room where Griffey made that great catch) and throw by Griffey in the 9th, Dwight Evans (who should be in the Hall Of Fame solely as the best defensive right fielder-no one tagged up against Evans’ arm) impossible catch and Fisk off the pole in the bottom of the 12th…what else could you ask for?
Yes, the Reds won. Yes, I was only 5. Yes, Fisk's HR is bigger than winning it all. I do remember the excitement in the house but too young to know baseball. My heart was ripped out many times after this. Thank you, 2004 team.
7 years older and north of the border- 2004 remains one of the greatest moments of "pure joy" in my life- in the great scheme of things a meaningless event in the history of the world, but a great moment of redemption for 1975, 1978, 1986, 2003 and a few other low moments of my fandom!
I know this is subjective, but in my opinion, this is the best World Series of the 50 I can remember watching. It is also the reason I am a Red Sox fan as my grandmother told me I had to choose a side, even though I was already a Cards fan.
My love for BASEBALL started when I was a young boy in the 70's in MEXICO rooting for the BIG RED MACHINE ....first WS game I ever saw was game 6 of the '75 WORLD SERIES...BEST GAME OF ALL TIME!!!

Perhaps the greatest game ever played. I have the full broadcast on dvd.
This World Series really had everything. I wonder if we’ll see another as good as this one.
The best game of the history of world series. Exciting

It didn’t suck massively that this HR ended being all for nothing ?
@@RYMAN1321 how nothing? The Sox won that series 3 games to 4?
