    This is one of my favourite games... It was such a chess match between two great teams. The Jays used all of its available pitchers: David Cone, Todd Stottlemyre, David Wells, Duane Ward, Tom Henke, Jimmy Key and Mike Timlin. Stottlemyre, Wells, Key were all starters but came in and did their job in relief, especially Jimmy Key after Henke uncharacteristically blew the save in the 9th. And Mike Timlin facing Otis Nixon, a prolific runner who laid down a good bunt to try to bunt to first, just calmly threw him down... What a game and what a win!

    my happiest sports moment. they were good for a long time before finally breaking through. Carter ends both World Series. that's pretty good.

    Getting Otis Nixon out on a steal is an achievement on its own, let alone during a World Series game. Good on the Jays!

    Otis was one of the fastest in the game then. I dont agree with bunting on 2 outs, but its not a bad idea given his execution and the pressure it puts on any pitcher in that scenario. Timlin stayed cool

      It was a horrendous bunt and he still was only out by half a step. Dude was sooo fast.

      Would have been best to bunt down the third base line instead of towards first.

      Apparently Nixon knew he couldn't handle Timlin's fastball so he opted to try the bunt. Kind of makes sense.

      @@lelio422 Yeah I could barely watch it at the time. So nerve racking. I actually forgot how sloppy the Jays played that final game...lol. A credit to the sheer talent they had to get it done in spite of having the jitters. Cone was such a good get at the time. Just a brilliant trade.

    Might have been the best 6-game World Series I've ever seen. Had this gone the full 7 it would have been up there with the previous year's classic. They were the best 2 teams all season - even at the All-Star break most people thought this would be the Final and they turned out to be so evenly matched.

    Hard to understand why the last batter for Atlanta went for the bunt up the first base line against a right handed pitcher. Great game tho, Braves were a hit away from this being the 90s version of the Freese game in 2011.

    • @thomasmckenzie4584

      Not a bad point. If he pushes that down the 3rd base line, he's safe by a mile.

    • @walterlv01
      @walterlv01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nixon said afterward that it WAS supposed to have been down the 3rd base line - he based it on the first pitch from Timlin which was a hard fastball and figured that he could bunt that pitch the opposite way. But Timlin took something off the next pitch and Nixon was a fraction too early with the square.

    • @doublestrokeroll
      @doublestrokeroll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apparently Nixon couldn't keep up with his fastball so he took a chance on surprising them with a bunt rather than risking a strikeout. Actually makes a lot of sense.

      Exactly. But he might’ve thought he would beat it

    • @walterlv01
      @walterlv01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He made them make a tough defensive play. Even as perfectly as Timlin played it he only got him by a step. I don't disagree with the strategy. Nixon could beat out bunts better than anyone in MLB in those days. It didn't work out but it was still a ballsy play.

    • @doublestrokeroll
      @doublestrokeroll 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apparently Joe Carter knew Nixon and knew he couldn't hit Timlin's fastball, and basically told the whole infield and Timlin that he was going to try a bunt.
