At the risk of upsetting the trolls, I really wish that someone had taken me aside as a new believer and properly explained God's sovereignty to me. Perhaps I would have been spared from wandering in the Arminian wilderness for over two decades. So, deepest thanks, Pastor Jeff.
I completely relate to your thought here. Unfortunately, there are so many "pastors" and "teachers" that do not have the ability to explain this properly. I had a few. In many of their cases they need to put down the microphone and pick up the bible. But, I can relate to you my friend. This is why the body needs teachers and preachers with an affinity for the word of God and not the position of leader. What are your thoughts?

@@kelletttothechad ok blessed and lucky because some are not blessed because…….well……..no answer on that one. God is just the puppet master. Jesus said he would draw all men when he is lifted up. @End Times Are upon us So can an unsaved man used to doing evil turn and do good? Such as repent and believe? If you say,YES,then you also have to believe that a leopard has the power in itself,to change its spots and an Ethiopian Can change his skin color.
Yes and this story will be most helpful in describing god to your children! Little Johnny, God has predestined the minority of people to be saved and go to heaven forever, and He has predestined the majority of people to be eternally damned and burn in the fires of hell. We have no idea, little Johnny, if God has predestined you to be forever damned or forever saved. We love you, little Johnny, but we accept the fact that God might not love you, and that He may have plans to send you to hell for your future sins. If you do find yourself one day burning in hell because He hasn’t elected to save you, just remember that we will always love you, even if God hates you. Take comfort knowing that we are not like God. We will be in heaven forever only because we were unconditionally chosen for salvation before we were born. That would be the only reason that we won’t be in hell with you if you find yourself there. It won’t be because of anything we did. So also take comfort in knowing that. It may not seem fair, but who are we to judge God? So again, if you find yourself in hell, remember that we will always love you as we forever worship the God who loved us but who hated you, the God who sent His Son to die for us but not for you. Please, we ask, don’t let it bother you-if you find yourself in hell-that we love the God who hated you and showed you no mercy. We must accept the fact that God is sovereign, and He does what He pleases. My dear beloved Calvinist, will you teach that to your children or grandchildren? I suspect that your answer will be “never.” But why not? Why would you ever hide the wonderful “doctrines of grace,” the “Bible truth,” from your own children or grandchildren? TRUTH IN LOVE
Go Jeff Go....Yes your 'Doctrine of Demons" is harsh sounding. Calvinists don't like it much, as they are always softening harsh words. Eg. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9:::this is clearly saving faith that is not of your own doing. Paul is clearly saying your saving faith itself (believing) is a gift of God. Praise God for his amazing grace!
Salvation is the gift of God in context, not faith. Calvinism is works salvation heresy that actually makes God the author of sin and evil when you take 5 point Calvinism to it's logical conclusion. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Faith does not precede regeneration, as Calvinism asserts. We are autonomous beings whom the God of the universe has the free will to choose to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation apart from any and all works we can do, or not. God is indeed gracious, gracious enough to give all men the free will to choose His only begotten Son for salvation, or not. Prominent 5 point Calvinists such as John MacArthur, John Piper et al are unfortunately false teachers who either inadvertently or intentionally make God into a cosmic puppet master by way of His supposed 'Sovereign will'. Proper exegesis of the supposed Calvinistic proof texts such as Romans chapter 9 and Ephesians 1 clearly teaches that there is a condition to salvation, that condition is to freely believe the gospel by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. No one is predestined for heaven or hell. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life-John 3:16 KJV (notice it doesn't say whosoever is predestined to believe).
Enter the Bruce 01 “proper exegesis” 🤦♂️ the first thing you did is separate faith from salvation. The word salvation isn’t even in context. In context faith is the only subject of which by his grace we are saved through. Free will bro!!!!!!! Free will isn’t biblical. We are either slaves of sin...obedient slaves, in Adam. Or we have been set free(by God) from sin and are now slaves of righteousness in Christ. John 3:16 isn’t describing who will believe, it is a 👉promise👈 that whoever believes will have eternal life and never perish. Jesus goes on further to teach who the ones that will believe will be later in John’s gospel.
@@kyleharris9456 No, mate. I don't see Calvinism anywhere in the King James Bible. Jesus or the Apostles did not teach it, but rather Swiss heretic John Calvin, and Augustine, a Catholic theologian; taught Calvinism before it was called that. Salvation is in the context of Ephesians 2:8-9 'for by grace are ye saved through faith and that (salvation), not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. Free will is clearly an observable every day reality as well as a Biblical one 'Whosoever will, let him take of the water of the river of life freely'. We are not slaves, we are SERVANTS, and at times the servant of his own volition, chooses not to serve his master. Faith is a volitional exercise of the free will, we exercise our God given free will to choose to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, or not; as I previously stated. God is powerful enough to accomplish His purposes, whilst endowing His creatures with the ability to choose. If we don't have free will, then it follows logically that God has pre ordained every single action of humanity (including horrendously evil acts perpetrated throughout history (so according to Calvinism I guess Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and other maniacal dictators were carrying out God's sovereign predestined will for their lives, right?). Rewards are gained by volitional, post salvation obedience to the Lord's will, and chastisement as a result of post salvation disobedience. Of course salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, but faith in Christ is not a gift God predestined some to have and others not. Otherwise God would be unjust in condemning those who did not put their trust in Christ, as the god of Calvinism has supposedly predestined countless individuals to not be able to believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, then how can they be condemned for something which Calvin's god has predestined to come to pass? The true God of the Bible is just in condemning those who wilfully reject His free gift of salvation for their entire lives. Big difference, my friend. T.U.L.I.P is a doctrine of devils, Kyle.
Enter the Bruce 01 see you inserted the word salvation into the text....again. You can keep saying the Bible doesn’t teach it. And what you think the Bible teaches is irrelevant. I’m walking through the text effortlessly and your inserting into the text. I’m doing exegesis you are doing eisegesis. I would hate to see what you have to do with difficult to digest scripture.
@@kyleharris9456 Not what I think the Bible teaches, but what it does teach. I'll give you an example: man made doctrine says 'Jesus only died for His predetermined 'elect' (Limited atonement). What the Bible actually teaches regarding atonement is: 1st John 2:2 KJV: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. Who is right? The Apostle John...or Jeff Durbin? I know who I choose to believe (notice I said choose); and it's certainly not the latter. Another example of how the false doctrine of limited atonement is in error and in direct opposition to the clear teaching of the Bible is in 1st Timothy 4:10 KJV: For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially those that believe. This verse clearly teaches that the atonement is clearly offered to all, but is only EFFECTIVE for those that actually believe the gospel. In other words, Jesus is the potential Saviour of all men, but only the effective Saviour of those who trust in Him alone for the free gift of salvation. You can't accuse me of eisegesis in relation to this passage, or any other passage I have cited. Calvinists love to cite other Calvinist preachers or theologians in order to justify their heretical position but they can never come to Calvinism being the biblically consistent conclusion to reach based on scripture understood in it's correct context ALONE. There are plenty of biblically sound expositional teachings on why Calvinism makes God out to be undeniably abhorrent as well as the author of sin freely available on TH-cam by solid independent Baptist preachers like Dr Thomas Cucuzza, Dr Gene Kim, Robert Breaker, Ralph Yankee Arnold and others. Have a good day, Kyle.

I am right there with you.. I got almost no instruction.. What I got was there Armenianism..Unless you believe in God sovereignty..you can never know true peace..I am a Calvinist now and for the rest of my life but its not easy finding a reform church. Pastors in a lot of churches won't preach the true word for fear the parking lot will be empty.. They left us because they never were of us.
As Spurgeon said “ by this truth “Calvinism” I make a pilgrimage into the past, and as I go, I see father after father, confessor after confessor, martyr after martyr, standing up to shake hands with me. If I were a Pelagian, or a believer in the doctrine of free will, I should have to walk for centuries all alone, here and there a heretic might stand up and call me Brother. “
Calvin Peterson yes if any Christian before the reformation did rise up today they would be totally aghast at any such suggestion by any denomination, 1500 years of nothing like what we have after
Calvin Peterson does your theology come from Martyrs exclusively? Alas it should all come from the bible. The teachings of divine sovereign grace has been in the church since day one. The bible teaches it John 6, 10, Romans 8/9+11, Ephesians 1.... I mean the scriptures are countless. Many martyrs have held to the doctrines of grace. Waldesians, puritans... etc etc
Imagine listening to Jesus after His death and resurrection, as if you were one of the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus with Him. The Bible tells us that He would have said to you, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” Then imagine that you are the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus when suddenly, a “light shone around you from heaven. Then you fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to you “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And you said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” Then fast forward about approx. 20 years and imagine yourself as a young believer in Jesus Christ in one of the churches in Galatia and you heard that a letter from a Church leader whose name was Paul was being delivered to the house where you and fellow believers in your area would gather. And someone read the letter out loud to the group because you quite likely could not read. The salutation alone was enough to make your heart jump. It said simply this, “Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead), and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Now compare those Christ-tube videos that just ran through your mind to the TH-cam videos of this and others who teach and put their confidence in the Calvinistic religion. I could go from Genesis to Psalms to Isaiah to the Gospel of John to Acts to Ephesians to Revelation with history, stories, parables, and chapter and verse, but you get the point. The good news is about the person of Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection and the subsequent fruits of that work, namely the giving of the Holy Spirit to all that believe, to the glory of God the Father. And contrary to the Calvinistic error, you do get to chose whether you believe in Calvinism or in Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Choose wisely, not poorly. 🎚🩸📖🙏🏼😇
I really believe this in my spirit and my mind. I believe this is true according to the Bible. I need an answer to this: why does God send people to eternal hell when he willed for them to not choose him, and when he wills for them to do evil? I do not understand... is God punishing Himself? That doesn’t sound right to me, but I do not know what is.
Josh Lewis people go to hell bc of thier sin. God chose His own before the foundation of the world. We should only be thankful that we are His and not worry about the villains in the story. However, we preach the gospel to everyone because we don't know who the goats are. We are not meant to fully understand the mind of God, if we could, He wouldn't be God. Our mind can't reconcile how it all works together, but we believe and trust His word. Predestination is real. Oh and scripture says that He created some vessels for honor and some for destruction to show His glory. That's just the way it is.
God does not send people to hell. People do it themselves, by their own free will. You either reject Jesus Christ, or make Him YOUR personal Lord and Savior. Read Gospel of Luke, 23: 32- 43, for more on this. Understand who Jesus Christ is, and why He came. Always keep Him first place in your heart. May God bless you and keep you. Amen
Why was a Christ needed at all? An omniscient God would know how to make creation without the flaws that necessitated an atonement in the first place. An omnibenevolent God would not make rules that would condemn his creations for acting as he KNEW they would act.

No. You probably believe that God hasn’t made a decision for that person already which is why you want God to work on them. In Calvinism, the only thing that changes or helps the lost, is regeneration. God doesn’t slowly open their eyes to things and give them some light here and there. In Calvinism, people can’t hear or see and don’t want to until the moment they’re born again which happens right before they believe. And God can’t be persuaded to save anyone. Your prayers would be pointless in Calvinism. It’s already decided. The damned have been chosen for damnation before the foundation of the world and the saved have been chosen for salvation. Your prayers won’t change that. So you don’t sound like a Calvinist to me.
@@evanu6579 Do you have children? If you do, do you pray for their salvation? If you pray for their salvation you are a person who believes has Calvin believed. @@treythompson4103 If I pray for the salvation of anyone, it’s because I believe that God can work in their lives and that it’s not already predetermined for them. Why would a Calvinist pray for salvation?
@@evanu6579 God bless you, I think you are completely missing the point. If God is not sovereignly in control of salvation ( which is what an Arminian believes) why pray for Him to help you’re loved one to believe???
@@treythompson4103 God bless you as well. I tried to address that in my response. It’s because I believe God can work in people’s lives to help them see the truth. I don’t believe God makes them believe, but that He does things to help them to realize their need for Him. Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: 31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. God works in the lives of people so that they might believe. My prayers are for God to do that. Which if I were a Calvinist, I wouldn’t be able to pray for the salvation of anyone because it’s already predetermined and my prayers wouldn’t make a difference. I would be praying in vain. It only makes sense for a non Calvinist to pray for such a thing.
What people misunderstand about what Calvinism means 1) we don't have free will. Just to clear things up, God does give us a free will, but according to our free will, we do not choose him. That's why he chooses to give grace to whom he will have grace on.

Luke 2:10 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Matt. 23:37
Fried Motherboards just out of curiosity how does it make God the sinner? God does not make people sin. God does give us a free will, but we do no choose him. That's why Jesus reveals himself to whom he chooses. John 6:44 . Not because they were special, but because he Chose to have mercy on sinners. Romans9:16
Deborah Dowden John 6:44 no one can come to Jesus unless the father draws them Ephesians 1:5 our adoption was predestined by God as his will Romans 9:16 so then it depends not on human will but Gods mercy Acts 7:51 our own free will does not want God God gives us the decision to choose him and we do not. That is our fee will. That's why Christ died for the elect, the people he chose, not because we wanted him. Our will brings us to hell, his will makes us seen as justified though Jesus Christ and that is not our doing.
@@olgar1474 Olga, I will give you three things to think about: 1) First of all please re-read John 6:44. It says that no one CAN COME (IS ABLE) to come unless the Father draws him. Nowhere in that does it say that each person that the Father draws through His Word irresistibly comes. No one can come to my party unless they are invited. Does that mean that each person invite has no choice but must irristibly come? 2) Romans 9 has nothing to do with individual salvation before the foundation of the world. Many Calvinsist are now seeing that. Esau the man never served Jacob the man. It is speaking about the nations of Edom and Israel. Read Malachi 1 and the whole chapter of Obadiah. Actualy you can read Genesis 25 as well and it clearly says nations. Read and re-read the first 6 verses of Chapter 9 in Romans what is on Paul's heart and mind when He is writing this. The Jews are baffled that they have been following God's law, sacrifices, rules, etc. for centuries and now Christ and the disciples come along and say that all of that was for nothing and now those pagan Gentiles can have fellowship with God just by faith. You must be kidding. That is what Paul is addressing. He is telling them that who are they to question God. Can God not set aside the Jews for a time if He wants and now bring the Gentiles into the fold. Besides, not all Israel are Israel. It was through Isaac and not Ishmael, it was through Jacob and not Esau, etc. It was based on the promise and not descent. 3) If Unconditional election is true than there is no way you can say man is condemned to damnation for sin. God chose a small group to elect to salvation before man was created, before sin existed, and the rest were chosen for damnation before sin existed and before man was created. The decision was made. They were condemned. Done. no sin existed. Now there are those that say God just leaves them to their own sinful desires. Not possible. If you have 4 kids and you decide to leave your inheritence to 3 of your kids but not the 4th. How is there anyway possible that you could say that you did NOT choose for your 4th kid NOT to receive part of your inheretience but just leave them to themselves. Do you think your 4th kid would believ eyou when you said that you did not choose them not to get some of the inheretence? That is foolishness. When there are only two classes of people and only two choices, when you decide one group of people for one choice it automatically means you intentionally decided that the other group of people would get the second choice. If 10 people are lined up in a firing squad and they say that you get to save as many of them as you want and you just get to pick which ones are spared. If you only pick 7 of them how can you say that you did not pick the other 3 to be executed because the same outcome happens when we ask you to pick any of the 10 to be executed? If you pick those three, you chose to spare and save the other seven.
Jeff... I am a born again believer and I love listening to your sermons... Since right before the pandemic I've ben having panic attacks...I know what The Bible says about not being anxious and I pray about it all the time but for whatever reason I can't seem to get rid of them. I want to and it's just a physical thing that I feel like I have no control over I'm not sure what else to do about it I really want God to take it from me I feel like there must be something I'm not understanding....
Grapes of the Vine I understand you. I struggle with anxiety and nerve issues. As believers, we all have to suffer for the Lord in one way or another. I'd suggest just be thankful for all you have, fill your mind with only biblical related material and worship music. Talk to God always. Stay focused and remember Peter walking on water. We're all struggling and groaning for His return, which is very soon. You're not alone and I find comfort sometimes in my family on YT.... true believers who always seek truth.
@@LiquidTree555 Wise words,Brother/Sister.Let us all rest in the knowledge that Christ has made us perfect before the Father,it helps to preach the Gospel to ourselves daily.
A choice doesn't necessarily have to be a "work." Isn't it possible that God knew every choice that every human would make before Adam breathed his first breath, and with that knowledge he opened the eyes of the people that he knew would hear the gospel and repent, allowing them to see and have faith?
The thing is God knows not one natural person would come to Christ that's why He must save people Himself. None are good or seek God,only after God gives us the new birth will we seek Christ.
PS 14;3 2The LORD looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if any understand, if any seek God.3All have turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one........................ This is why no NATURAL(UNBORN AGAIN) man would ever come to Christ by their 'free will',our WILLS are slaves to sin, spiritually dead because of Adam.........The good news is,JOHN 6;37 ALL THE FATHER GIVES TO ME WILL COME TO ME AND THE ONE WHO COMES TO ME I WILL NEVER CAST OUT. and JOHN 6;44 NO ONE CAN COME TO ME UNLESS THE FATHER WHO SENT ME DRAWS HIM AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP ON THE LAST DAY............. So if you are a believer,it is GOD'S DOING and you can never be lost again. The thing is,THIS IS THE GOD OF THE BIBLE BELIEVERS MUST BELIEVE IN,if one believes in any other god, they are believing in a false god,an idol and no idol can save no one.
The Calvinist and Arminian says that God has foreknowledge, that God knows the future. But the question is HOW does God know the future, how does God know what is going to happen tomorrow? The Calvinist says that God knows what will happen because God has decreed it to happen. God's foreknowledge is based on his decree, based on what he has foreordained and predetermined to happen. My question for the non-Calvinist is HOW does God know what will happen if he hasn't decreed it to happen?
PS 139;16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. From somebody that recently dove into this -ism with a little more intentionality, I can say it’s a little more beneficial to take the time to learn the other side, regardless of where you stand on it, & even if you don’t agree with it in the end. At first, I pushed away from Calvinism when I came across their most popular point it seems of “predestination”, and based on the knowledge I have thus far, I wanna take a stab at bridging the gap between the two sides …. A quick hitter we can get out the way, I’m pretty sure the common ground here is that our Creator is alll knowing. He is the beginning -if such a thing exists- and the end. If you don’t believe that, this isn’t for you…. With that being said, I think that us as believers can get a little too “caught up” with certain verbiage in the text-not saying don’t take any part of the Word less seriously because we should definitely keep as many of His words stored & marked in our hearts as possible-that we lose sight of the bigger picture God has painted for us… For God and God alone, I believe that two-otherwise mutually exclusive when referring to His creation-events can be true. Regardless of what He’s already known, still knows, and has known right at our respective endings, how would we know what He would’ve known all along other than walking it out to the finish line? Hope that doesn’t confuse those still reading lol, but short answer…we don’t. & we won’t. Yes He knows where each & every one of us will end up. Otherwise that would flat out contradict His omniscience. However, while His purpose behind that will forever remain a mystery in our pea brains lol, we still have a choice with how we walk/work out our soul salvation being exposed to this truth daily. There are plenty of scriptures that make it plain as day what we are and are not to do. Right now we can choose to either walk in love, or hate. You will choose to walk amongst holy counsel, or the wicked. We can either love and forgive our neighbor, or embrace that murderous spirit. You have that will, and at the same time, before you act on that will, as crazy as it may seem…God already knew. For those that are purposely waiting to your final wish on that death bed to repent knowing you’ve rejected purpose your whole life….God would have known that too. As hesitant as I was to come around to it, predestination is indeed biblical. He knows it all. From front cover to back. But it can also be true that given that much of an understanding, we also carry that choice on how truly close to the cross we make it up in our hearts, souls, minds, and strengths to be. Because regardless of your “free willed” decision ………He kn(ows/ew). Everybody won’t choose holiness. But you don’t have to be everybody. Love God with every fiber of your being, and carry that out with your brethren. Not to pay off your salvation, but because it’s already been paid off! & I’m pretty sure those of us that have chosen to seek the kingdom after His righteousness, will be alright.
Calvinism and John Calvin were condemned by the Orthodox Church as damnable heresy. He was the only reformer to be formally condemned by council. Get out of this Gnostic heresy now.
@@danielomitted1867 Calvinism also divides the Trinity by saying that the Father damned the son on our behalf. If your theology divides the Trinity then you are in heresy plain and simple.
@@iwads1 lol okay, where? Ive never said Jesus was damned nor have I heard any reformed theologian use that language but the bible says He who knew no sin became sin so that we may become the righteousness of God. As it is writen in the law cursed is every man who hangs from a tree, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse from us. If you have an issue with ANY of this then congratulations, youre just arguing with the bible. Cant help but notice you backed off your claim about calvinism being gnosticism. You clearly have no idea what youre talking about.
You utter falsely. The Decision of the Synod of Dort on the Five Main Points of Doctrine in Dispute in the Netherlands is popularly known as the Canons of Dort. It consists of statements of doctrine adopted by the great Synod of Dort, which met in the city of Dordrecht in 1618-19. Although this was a national synod of the Reformed churches of the Netherlands, it had an international character, since it was composed not only of Dutch delegates but also of twenty-six delegates from eight foreign countries. The Synod of Dort was held in order to settle a serious controversy in the Dutch churches initiated by the rise of Arminianism. Jacob Arminius, a theological professor at Leiden University, questioned the teaching of Calvin and his followers on a number of important points. After Arminius’s death, his own followers presented their views on five of these points in the Remonstrance of 1610. In this document and in later more explicit writings, the Arminians taught election based on foreseen faith, the universal application of Christ’s atonement available to all who freely choose to accept it, limited human depravity, the resistibility of God’s grace, and the possibility of a fall from salvation. In the Canons the Synod of Dort rejected these views and set forth the Reformed teaching on these points with the purpose of offering a deeper assurance of salvation to believers in accordance with the teaching of the Scriptures. The Canons are thus unique among the Reformed confessions because of their original purpose as a judicial decision on the doctrinal points in dispute during the Arminian controversy. The original preface called them a “judgment, in which both the true view, agreeing with God’s Word, concerning the aforesaid five points of doctrine, is explained, and the false view, disagreeing with God’s Word, is rejected.” The Canons also have a narrower scope than the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism in that they do not cover the whole range of doctrine but focus on the five points of doctrine in dispute.
Rocket Surgeon - Conceptually I agree with you. But there are so many heretical people out there calling themselves “christian” it’s kinda helpful to infer what YOU mean by Christian. Personally I prefer 1689 Reformed to Calvinist, but Calvinism has “evolved” from John Calvin such that I don’t feel the need to quibble. Even so, I really wish what you say could be today. We should be one body with one Lord and one source of Devine Revelation. Not praying to trees like Union Theological Seminary (ugh)
As a true Christian, you have nothing to boast in but the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified. But as a Calvinist, you get to proudly boast in yourself ... or more specifically, your supposed knowledge of the Bible (which really amounts to boasting in the false teachings of a man name John Calvin, who died in the 1500s). So pay no attention to the man behind the Calvinistic curtain. If you know in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior, calling yourself a Christian is just fine. 🎚🩸📖🙏🏼😇
I’m honestly curious, if I totally believe in the Calvinistic view of God and follow Jesus with all my heart and soul but at the end of my life I end up in hell because God ordained me to damnation at the beginning, how is that a just God? I’m not trying to be argumentative at all. I’m honestly trying to rap my head around this doctrine! Thank you.
I was holding up to some calvinist doctrines. But it turns out that some of my mentors are much more to follow arminian reasonings.. and this really hit me hard and after that I was so confused and just how I am now studying apologetics. It was quite hard to hold it both calvinism vs arminianism doctrines.I was too confused and I was too shocked that I am still confused in some point of my studies even after I was Reform Christian then what I did was I approached to the pastor. he's pastor Alex from ig-Reform lifestyle. And he consoled me with some ideas to deal with this problem. And after his consoling now I don't focus picking the sides . Because we can find many verses for both sides. I mean it's not even biblical to pick sides keep grasping and debating it. Let me just put it this way now I personally agree with what John Macauthor said when he was asked about predestination and free will in a interview.,. what he answered was the most reasonable answer to me he said that "yes we are predestined yes we have the will to accept the gospel why I believe that question?? I don't know I am not God. . . I agree that I am not saved if I am not chosen by God and I also agree if I am not willingly going to repent I won't be saved."Now this is my personal testimony or should I say my understanding of God. God's Sovereignty is so great that we finite beings can not even imagine a side of his plan. His ways are so higher that we can't understand it we may say yes that it was God... but we can never know how he did it.
If you are in Christ and follow him and love him, you are elected and will not be lost. You cannot lose your salvation. Remember that God never changes His mind. If you have repented and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ...you are elect, and God will not change his mind.
If you believe in Christ, not Calvinism, and repent of your sins you are saved. If you feel sorrow over your sins and long for Jesus then He promises that you are saved. It's not hit or miss. Paul says, "I write this little children that you may KNOW that you have eternal life...." You won't be surprised. Jesus said that he knows his sheep and his sheep hear him.
I’ve been a Christian for 25 years and have just recently come to believe that the Bible does indeed teach that God predestined most of humanity to eternal conscious torment. It is causing me a lot of mental anguish, and I’m not sure how to have a genuine love for God if that’s what he’s really like.
God predestined Israel for Jesus to be born, for the Messiah to provide salvation. Ralph "Yankee" Arnold has some good perspective on you tube concerning Calvinism.
same here. Dunno how to love a god who just pick and choose without letting us know why and say to us we should have love and faith and be joyful about this election. i just cant love a god like this , with the standpoint i have right now...it might get better with some praying, but with ultimate understanding as human being, it just feels not right.
@@bestthingjesus it doesn't feel right because it's not right. James Knox on youtube and Ralph "Yankee" Arnold both have far better perspectives on this. God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. As Jesus said, "for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so WHOEVER believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
I’m not sure if anyone will see this but I’d love to ask a question! For Calvinist’s, many will say of non-Calvinist’s that we believe that God “peered down the tunnel of time to see who would believe” to make it seem like God learned something from us. But wouldn’t God know from the beginning who would believe and not have to peer? Doesn’t it make him more sovereign to know who would choose freely than to predestine them to choose a certain way? I have a hard time reconciling that so I’d love thoughts!
It isn't much less learned as the implications of a statement such as that. If God is obligated to and gives His grace to everyone in the same fashion to every individual to choose Him or reject Him, then the final and ultimate cause of your salvation is the person, not God. Who is in control over the destiny of creation? Is it the creator, or the creation? Going a bit deeper into the Arminian understanding (which I grew up with for 20 years), what is the distinguishing factor on why someone chose God and the other didn't. Did one just happen to make the better and smarter choice? The answer is still the same, since God made that person to be that intelligent to make that sort of choice etc. The resulting ultimate question is the following: Is salvation monergistic or synergistic?
If God put his laws in their hearts, and wrote them on their minds, how can you you disagree with what others know in their hearts and believe in their minds about God, or his Word?
@Blargleman The Skeptic, only God knows the hearts and minds of men, and gives due reward to their conduct. Ultimately our theology comes out of our fingertips and it’s by their fruit that you’ll know them. Get wisdom, get knowledge, get understanding, but the time of knowledge will end and love remains.
@@axiomwealthstrategies that is not an answer to my question. I never asked what God knows. I never asked about rewards. "... By their fruit that you'll know them" is irrelevant. Telling me to get wisdom, etc. it's also irrelevant to the question asked. And the closing part is just a deepity, also irrelevant. Please read what I wrote and if you feel The urge to respond, please address the ACTUAL question.
@Blargleman The Skeptic I am equivocating on what it means to ‘disagree’ and ‘know.’ There is a higher right than being right... that’s what I’m appealing to. The Pharisees searches the scriptures because in them they thought they had salvation... but the kingdom was given not to them but to those who would bear its fruits.
Arminians tend to hold that God is sovereign, while also holding that salvation is dependent on the will of man. It can't be both. Because scripture is so clear on this doctrine, they then have to jump through hoops to get these verses to mean what they want. It is so freeing to simply read the word and believe what it says.
@@holaamigo3084 Of course he did. But was their choice foreordained, yes. Had they not eaten the fruit, then mankind would have been saved by Adam and not Christ. But it was always God's plan to glorify the Son by dying for the sins of man. So it was absolutely Adam's choice, which was foreordained by God that he should make.
@@BatMite19So God made it were Adam and Eve will sin, rather than them being able to choose whether or not to eat the fruit? Did they have an opportunity to not eat the fruit?
@@holaamigo3084 man's will is absolutely free in that he can choose whatever he wants. The question is always: what does he want? Fallen man is a hater of God and does not want God, and must be regenerated by the Holy Spirit before he will want Christ. People always choose what they want. With Adam, it was different because he was not fallen and did not have a sin nature. Adam chose what he wanted, as we all do. Why did did want to sin at that moment? Perhaps because Eve already did, or maybe because he was beguiled by the serpent. In any case, man's choosing is always in keeping with God's sovereign foreordination.
@@holaamigo3084 please listen because souls are on the line over this doctrine of Calvinism. They get this doctrine from John Calvin and I'll be damned if it took over 1,500 years for the church to make sense of God's sovereignty and how predestination actually works. Calvinism completely contradicts free will and puts the fall of Man and sin completely on God! God can work through our free will but he doesn't control our freewill. God is all-knowing and has foreknowledge of the future and all events ever but God doesn't control anyone's will! Anyone that's going to be in heaven is because of God's grace and because they chose to want to be with God, Christ Jesus! People that end up in Hell is because they chose to! It is your choice! God already knew who was going to be in heaven at eternity past, that doesn't mean he's violating people's freewill to get the required results., instead he works through our Free Will and us believers to bring about the message of the Gospel to all nations, heal the sick and feed in the hungry In His name! Calvinism is a false doctrine my friend. Calvinism is a de-domination just like all the others that differ from the scriptures. If Catholics are Christians why do they consider themselves Catholics and why do they read a whole different Bible? Same thing goes for Muslims, Jehovah Witnesses, etc etc different doctrines different beliefs, it's why I'm considered non-denominational and I also disagree with most of the denomination's including Calvinism. Scripture only None of that legalism systematic religious crap.
For the sake of anyone reading this who might be interested in the alternative to the Monergistic (partly Augustinian / fully Calvinisic) interpretation of Scripture, then please think on these things if you are convinced that Calvinism is synonymous with 'the truth' of true Christianity, and that Arminianism or whatever else is somehow wayward or (ironically) sub Christian... Clearly (though John Calvin somehow doesn't seem to see it) the writings of Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp, Justin Martyr, Clement, Irenaeus, Cyril, Athanasius, Ambrose (and I could go on and on and on - remembering that Polycarp and Ignatius actually knew the Apostle John) ALL testify that we still, even as fallen creatures, have the power to "choose life" once it is placed before us, and that our response to the Gospel is a response inspired by the power of this grace that is calling us, and that we are to 'cooperate' (Gk. 'Synergeia' - as St Paul says: 'working together') - with this all sufficient grace - in a life of sanctification from thereon. In short, our relationship with God in Christ depends upon two unequal, yet equaly necessary forces: Divine Grace - and human will. But yes, it is only God's grace - In Christ - that rescues and transforms us... "for from Him and through Him and to Him are all things". All the Church Fathers at the time agreed that Pelagius took things too far regarding his view of human freedom (and the Church Fathers I've already mentioned would have agreed with them); but also, that in reaction to Pelagius, Augustine of Hippo took things too far in the other direction with regards to human inability and divine predestination (greatly influenced by his Manachean and Neoplatonic past). Within the orthodox Patristic balance - which leaves room for the 'tension' we find in the Scriptures between 'mystery and revelation', between, for instance, the realities of Divine Sovereignty and human will... ALL the Doctors of the early church and the church (bar a couple of reformers) right up to the present day, would ALL emphatically deny that God 'determines' who goes to heaven or hell before they were even born. They would also all agree that we are very depraved... but not totally. God is love. We all retain the Image of Him, and therefore a degree of real autonomy and freedom... even post fall, pre regeneration. His grace is all sufficient, but He does not arbitrarily and unilaterally save or damn anyone. We are not muppets... and He is not a monster.
@@arianarubytemple6008 thank you. Truth is clear : the reformed Calvinist position is novel, unbiblical (according to the already existing Jewish view of God and the earliest interpreters of the Christian era - the apostolic fathers), unhistorical, illogical and philisophically detestable Haha x
If Calvinism is true, then everyone, including those chosen, don’t have to live a Christian lifestyle, they’re simply saved by default and going to heaven. There’s literally no point in preaching the gospel, whatsoever. The whole idea is ridiculous and renders preaching useless. If our eternal salvation (or lack thereof) was determined before the beginning of time, regardless of anything we do, why did Jesus have to die? With Calvinism the only difference between God and Satan, is that Satan wants everyone to go to hell and God wants only the majority to go to hell.

Praise the Lord we’re saved by God’s grace and not the interpretations of men. Brother Jeff I love you in the Lord but the majority of scripture is against you on this. On top of that, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the opposite view. The doctrine that it is a free will choice of men of whether or not to be saved does not diminish God’s sovereignty and grace. It actually amplifies His grace. We don’t even need to get into the more complicated points. The most simple proof against the doctrine of Calvinism is the over 200 verses in the NT telling us that Christ came to save the whole world. Plain and simple, all does not mean some. The whole world does not mean part of the world. God is sovereign. God is in control. It is God who draws us to Himself and receives all glory for salvation. And He has given us free will so that we would choose to accept His free gift of salvation because He loves us and He came to die for all men. And all the verses Calvinists present as proof DO NOT contradict this. It is not a work. It’s not something special about us that saves us. It is possible for God to be sovereign AND give us free will. He foreknew who would choose Him. We are elect according to His foreknowledge. It’s not a surprise to Him that those who are or will be saved, got saved. All things in between are just needlessly complicated opinions. I hope to have a conversation with you about this one day if the Lord wills. If any brothers or sisters in the Lord would like to object to this I’d be happy to have a loving conversation to show you why you’re wrong haha.
I listened to a great explanation on this by Frank Turek, called Predestination vs Free Will. As much as I love and respect Jeff Durbin with the work he is doing, his Calvinist approach is the wrong way to interpret scripture. Hope he gives this podcast episode a listen or has you on the show, I'd love to give that a listen!
Of course there will be. Every Calvinist I have talked to and listened to will say that there are genuine Christians that are Arminian, Molinist, Provisionists etc.
Spirit and Truth Ministries Interesting take. I’ve heard Calvinists condemn Arminians as heresy and false gospel, which makes me wonder if what you’re referring to are non-Calvinist Christians that have not been exposed to or heard Calvinist teachings.
@@MikaeIe90 I'm not denying that there are Calvinists who would say that non-calvinists are not Christians. Just as there are Arminains who say that Calvinism is heresy and that Calvinists aren't Christians. It goes both ways. What's matter is that there are legit Christians in both camps.

@@amandacarmel6084 Hey Amanda! One passage I'd encourage you to look into is 1 John 4. Starting in verse 7 it's talking about the love of God and in verse 19 it states "We love because he first loved us" ( ESV). From what I understand, God has to show His love to us for us to even be capable of loving Him. Keep asking questions and seeking answers!!
"All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:37-44 AKJV) Sovereign election in a nutshell.
13 As it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated." 14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills. 19 You will say to me then, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?" 20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, "Why have you made me like this?" (Romans 9:13-20, ESV) When I read this I wonder what the debate is about.
I would never be a Calvinist. Calvinist are elitist who are arrogant and condescending, and they treat those with opposing views as inferiors. This type of attitude is off-putting.
@@aletheia8054 The mere fact that you have tried to turn my initial comment back on me is conformation that my assessment of Calvinist is correct. Sorry, but it will not work.
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”” 2 Peter 2:20-22 ESV
Empty my hands I bring, only to Thy grace I freely cling. God sovereignly imparted to me the free will to surrender that will to Him. It's either that or else we are robots. The Lord genuinely desires all men to be saved, He doesn't want puppets. Leighton Flowers points out how the phrase "doctrines of grace" attempts to insinuate that we non-Calvinists don't believe in the doctrine of grace. Well, not the way that y'all look at it, that God hand picked a select group for no apparent reason, and the rest are left for reprobation and damnation. So, we believe in the doctrines of grace, that God made a provision anyone and everyone has a genuine opportunity to be have salvation. God has not unilaterally limited salvation to a select few outside of our will, before we were ever born, for reasons that He never tells us, while condemning the rest! That is virtually what Atheism with eternity thrown in. It repulses us who see the rest left on the side of the road, kinda like the Levite and the priest, without provision, "doomed from the womb," never with hope of salvation.
Reformed Christians are typically (but not always) cessationists. They believe certain gifts were given to the apostles in order to lay the foundation of the church. Since that foundation has been laid, and you don’t continue to lay a foundation over and over, those apostolic gifts have ceased. Such as tongues, prophecy, and healing. Not to say God doesn’t heal anymore, just that we don’t have apostles who can heal at will, or merely by their shadow falling on you, like in Acts. Cessationists hold that those gifts were given to verify the apostles and that their teachings were divine revelation. Since we now have “the faith that was delivered to the saints once for all” (Jude 3) contained in scripture, and since “God has spoken in the last days through his Son” (Heb. 1:2) we no longer need or receive continued revelation from God. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV The man of God can be fully equipped and competent for every good work through scripture. Justin Peters has a lot of good info on cessationism so if you want to learn more I’d recommend checking out his channel.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is unique to the Church age. It identifies all believers with Christ (who He is as well as what He has). The baptism of God the Holy Spirit is an immediate, instant spiritual phenomenon at the moment of salvation where the Holy Spirit permanently places all believers in union with Jesus Christ. Anytime you read, “in Christ” in the New Testament, it’s referring to all the unique advantages and blessings Church age believers (like you) possess
Praying in the spirit can only be accomplished by the filling ministry of the Holy Spirit. 1 John 1:9 ~ confession or citing or naming your sins to God the Father fills you with the Spirit. You are then capable of leading the Bible and praying through the power of [the filling ministry of] God the Holy Spirit
Our decisions are always contingent... not autonomous. Gods decisions are not contingent... they are ex nihilo... autonomously free... out of nothing. We are 100% free to choose our hearts highest desire... slave to sin or slave to Christ, there is no choice that is autonomous and neutral in the proposition. God is 100% sovereign to create out of nothing and we are 100% free to choose our hearts highest desire.
A Special Pleading Fallacy. Followed by a non sequitur. Bravo! 👏👏👏 If we are 100% free to choose our hearts desire, then our choices are by definition, ex nihilo, and thus can't be contingent. If they are contingent, then we _necessarily_ can't be free to choose to do otherwise.
Blargleman The Skeptic... out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Was your comment ex nihilo too? Either you don’t understand ex nihilo... or you don’t understand the contingency of our decisions.
You can work as hard as you can, but the son of the boss was chosen for that promotion waaaay before you even started that job. Life isn’t fair. Apparently afterlife isn’t either.
This is the most depressing theology ever espoused. A God who tells everyone to repent but doesn’t give the grace needed to do so to the majority of the image bearers he has created. Only a select few are moved upon against their own will in order to love him because he determined them to be so. This takes away all sense of the revealed will of God of repentance and relationship.
That is a common misunderstanding of Reformed theology. The Bible teaches us that man is dead in his trespasses and sins, not merely sick. He is not able to raise himself to life, and indeed, he is not even able to desire sincere repentance or holiness. God's command to repent to all mankind and his promise to receive them if they do, only serves to highlight the absolute necessity of God's grace for man continues to hold God in contempt, taking his blessings and conspiring with his enemy the devil. When God reaches down to change a man's heart through the grace that is revealed in Christ, it opens a man's eyes firstly to his desperate need, secondly to his profound unworthiness, and thirdly to the remarkable love of God. Those who are acted upon by grace desire to repent and to come to God. Nobody comes to God "against their will". Your position is contingent on the idea that God owes all sinners mercy. This idea naturally flows from a low view of the power of sin on a person's life, and a low view of the radical nature of Christian conversion. When a person can state that God owes man grace so that he can repent of his evil deeds, it is like saying a judge owes a reckless serial killer special forgiveness so that he can be sorry and apologise to his victim's families. Reformed theology presents a true picture of grace and why it is necessary (because we are so evil and dead). When natural man understands what true grace is, and why it is necessary, he despises and rejects it. Not because it is unclear, but because it is so clear it denies him any power, control, or glory in the act of regeneration.
InsignificancePersonified Thanks for the reply. However, I don’t know how you to came to the conclusions you came to by way of my comment. Your are overlaying your Calvinistic presuppositions on the text and you are doing that also on those who disagree with what you call “Reformed theology.” In no way did I imply a man centered gospel, only that God reveals his love for all people not a select few
T Last - so, if I’m understanding you correctly, God is not loving unless He saves everyone? (Universalism) That completely denies God’s Holyness, Justice, Wrath etc. We’re very uncomfortable, as sinful creatures, to stand before a Holy and Righteous God. We’d much rather invent a God whose only attribute is love. That is not the God of Scripture. People often look at that today and see a God of Wrath in the Old Testament and a God of Love in the New Testament, (even to the extreme of claiming they are two, separate, distinct beings!) but both are present in both (though more clearly revealed in the New) Anyone claiming the God of the New Testament is Love and only Love hasn’t spent much time reading about The Wrath of the Lamb. (even the Catholics understand this, it’s why Maryology evolved, to get a loving mother to placate her wrathful son) Oh, by the way, repentance and relationship follow after a changed heart, they don’t create one
@@jlandles Nobody said God owes man grace. Just that the grace that has been given is for all men. Jesus said he would draw all men. God is not willing that any should perish. Jesus said whosoever confesses me he will confess. Is that a work? Maybe you can tell Jesus where he got it wrong. Jesus dies for the sins of the WORLD. God so love the WORLD that he gave his only begotten son. The main scripture used in Romans about Esau by calvinists was not about eternal salvation. it was about Israel. The chapter is talking about how true Israel is of the Spirit, and how the election is by promise, not your heritage. But Calvinists take it OUT OF CONTEXT to use it for their false doctrine.
What Calvinism is is an extremely moronic and self contradictory theology that makes God into a maniacal cosmic puppet master by way of His supposed 'Sovereignity' and changes and distorts the simplicity of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. It should be adamantly opposed at all costs.
@@enterthebruce91No one should trust your take on Christianity since you can't follow even the most basic concepts. Jesus said to treat everyone with grace and dignity, even those who are unbelievers, yet here you are slandering those who you don't agree with. You do not spread the light of God as you were directed, you spread darkness and hatred. From your comment, you clearly do not understand Calvinism and have a certain contempt for it that does not allow you to understand it. You sound like you want the Bible to say something it does not. Not everyone will be saved. What you want does not matter, it is what God desires that matters. You have a poor understanding of the Bible, regardless of denomination or interpretation.
Calvinism is all about spreading God's light. Not about dividing. It teaches what the Bible says, to treat everyone with grace and dignity, even unbelievers. Do not listen to those with hate in their hearts. They do not understand Calvinism or the Bible and it clouds their judgment with anger and hatred.
@@Jason-rl7nf I understand exactly what Calvinism teaches, which is why I'm opposed to it. Calvinism is a works based salvation, says that Jesus is not the Saviour of all men, but only the predestined 'elect', which stems from a misinterpretation of the latter part of Romans chapter 8, all of Romans chapter 9, Ephesians 1:4 and other supposed 'proof texts'. All 5 points of Calvinism (T.U.L.I.P) are heretical and false, study it out if you don't believe me. By the way I never claimed everyone would be saved, the Bible clearly teaches that only those who believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation are saved. I'm not a Universalist, I just don't happen to believe in the false doctrine of limited atonement. 1st Timothy 4:10 KJV: Therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. This verse is saying that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of all men, but only the effective Saviour of those that believe. Calvinism falsely teaches that Jesus only died for certain people. This is false. Calvinism also says that grace is irresistible (false), people can and do resist the Holy Ghost, as per Acts 7:51 KJV. Calvinists claim unconditional election (false) election unto salvation is granted on the condition of accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour of one's own free will (by the way, exercising your free will to choose to trust Jesus as Saviour is not a work, as Calvinism erroneously teaches). Man is not 'totally depraved' in the sense that he cannot respond to the preaching of the gospel prior to regeneration, Calvinism teaches that regeneration precedes faith, this is false. The Bible says faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (not predestination). Calvinism says that one must 'persevere to the end to be saved'. False. Eternal life is a present tense possession, which cannot be lost or forfeited (Arminian heresy), or one cannot be 'proven to have never had salvation to begin with' (Calvinist heresy). Matthew 10:22 and Matthew 24:13 (he that endureth unto the end the same shall be saved), is speaking of physical salvation in the tribulation period, the context of the verses makes this clear. Quite simply, I'm staunchly opposed to Calvinism as it greatly maligns the character of God. Calvinism actually makes God the author of sin. My intention was not to disrespect any individual or individuals (you'll notice I never mentioned anyone by name in my previous post, much less disrespected them). My intention was simply to oppose the false doctrine of Calvinism itself. Jesus and the Apostles opposed false doctrine staunchly in their day (Pharisees, Saducees, Judaizers, Gnostics etc) and I will continue to do the same in our day (Calvinism, Arminianism, works salvation, prosperity preachers, Trinity deniers etc); as Scripture says to do. To oppose false doctrine does not equate to speading hatred, opposing false doctrine causes confusion and doubt within the body of Christ to cease.
I LOVE JEFF...however... I would argue that NO ONE can become a Calvinist by simply reading the Bible and coming to that idea.. it’s very much reading into something more than the text says alone. I would bet that anyone reading this that’s a Calvinist, you didn’t START as one, you became one only AFTER reading/watching/listening to a Calvinist leader/teacher. Before just blurting our “I WAS AS SOON AS I READ IT! ITS OBVIOUS!!” Take a moment and be honest with yourself. Did you come to this idea on your OWN?? Or was it taught to you. In a very strange way, it’s much like Catholics, NOT the thinking, but the idea that NOOOOO one would ever just read the Bible and have automatic Catholic thoughts. Because much of it is tradition and taught down to us. Some simple ways I back this up..are from the BIBLE! • The Bible says God desires for ALL people to be saved. (NOT just his elect, not just some chosen few) • Wouldnt it make God the author of evil? Because a Calvinist believes all we will ever do/think/desire etc. is already known, so that means he knew about the fall of Man billions of years before it happened, yet still set it up to happen. That from a Calvinist POV would see like a sadist to me.. • Why was God “sorry/regretful” that he ever created Man? And brought the flood to start over? Again, like above...he knew it would happen. Would you regret a bad choice if you knew you’d make it anyways, and knew the outcome? I argue this alone (Gods literal regret) is a huge issue for Calvinists to explain without using semantics. For example, one way they try to work out of the Predestination stuff is to say: “well, you DO truly have free will, but God is all powerful so he knew the choice you’d make, but it was still your choice” ...that’s semantics. Do you have free will if I have you chained up to a pole, but the chain is not able to be seen by you? No, it’s an illusion of free will. Because when your outcome is known ahead of time, yet you’re still created and “allowed” to walk down that terrible path...that’s not truly free will. • No Calvinist will disagree that ONLY Gods ELECT are going to get to Heaven. I ask you to answer to the people you love in your life, explain to them how no matter what they do, or choices they ever make, at least some of those loved ones of yours were destined for ETERNAL TORMENT IN HELL, before time began, and God brought them into being regardless. You can try and say, “none of us deserve to get to Heaven anyways, so it’s amazing he allows SOME TO!” Oh yeah?? How about if YOU aren’t one of the elect? Despite being a devoted Calvinist your whole life. How about your mother, father, or YOUR CHILDREN...your little baby son or daughter aren’t one of them, and was DESTINED for Hell before time began. If you can anyway justify that, I question your sanity as a human being. Wouldn’t it be so much easier to believe that God is STILL all powerful, but for a reason we do not understand, we are able to please him, and maybe we weren’t created with him KNOWING where we will go, why couldn’t God make the choice to allow himself to not know that? You believe in the Trinity for crying out loud...DONT tell me that God limiting himself in some way makes no sense. He limited himself as a Man, and was able to die. CAN GOD DIE????? Well he did. Because he allowed himself to be limited, as a human being is limited. I could go on forever...while you can throw out a few passages here n there to say “look it’s true!!!” The vast majority of the entire Bible shows that our God isn’t a Calvinist God. Calvinists make the mistake of thinking they know how God thinks, and why he does what he does. An Arminian is willing to say “I don’t know why, or how...but it’s what the text SAYS, and I’m not going to add my own sense to it” A Calvinist God has no reason to ever show surprise/anger/regret/ or sadness...all things God shows over and over again. Because you can’t surprise someone or make someone regret something when they already knew everything before time began... I still love you guys...but please think for YOURSELF. Read the Bible...and ask yourself “if I have 100 people read this bible alone...would even 1 be what we would consider to be a Calvinist?”
You hit the nail on the head. I became a Calvinist 6 years after becoming a Christian, this wasn't through reading the bible but through being introduced to John Piper. I wholeheartedly embraced it and started to read Calvinism into every text. Thank God I was able to renounce Calvinism 2 years ago. Now I see how false the system is.
I started looking into and learning about the doctrines of grace through my own study, before I’d ever heard it taught. The scripture itself, aside from someone teaching based on their traditions and presuppositions, is what lead me to believe in these doctrines.
@@devinschlosser240 In this individualistic culture its most definitely possible that one can read certain texts with a Calvinistic perspective. This is how John Calvin invented these doctrines.
It is possible. I became convinced of the doctrines of grace before I knew the name calvinism. I grew up in a very Arminian house and was not allowed to read any Reformed theologians, I only had the Bible. But I became calvinist before I knew what it was.
Do we spend too much time arguing over this? I truly think we can follow the Lord and understand we are saved ONLY by His grace without knowing the ins and outs of exactly how he does it, whether that be free will or election or whichever…. We can know God, love God, follow God, follow His commandants in obedience to Him not because it saves us but because we yearn to do the will of The Father because of the recognition of all He has done for us. And because we are commanded to we SPREAD THE GOSPEL, without knowing who or why things happen the way they do, we just know they do and God has a plan. We don’t have to argue over Calvinism over Arminianism etc..do we?
Sad that you have it exactly correct and everyone passes up your comment as if the wisest in the room were a fool to be dodged. Stay focused on God and avoid the theological jungle of man… where tribes go to battle with each other rather than the true enemy.
Waiting to see Leightons strange obsession with Durbin, Calvinism and Dr White, as he will probably try to dissect this video. He just has to have the last word on everything and cannot let anything go unchecked. He seems to be a very prideful man when it comes to this whole subject and topic of contention.
Wow, what an extremely ignorant, uncharitable and divisive comment. The fact that you bring up Leighton Flowers in a video that has nothing to do with him shows where the obsession may actually lie. His channel is dedicated to soteriology, so when a well-known ministry like Apologia preaches an entire sermon on calvinism, is it really that shocking to think he may respond to it? This is seriously like calling out ESPN for having a "strange obsession" with sports and having to comment on every game that's played and always needing to dissect and get a word in. Lastly, think what you may about his theological position, but if you at the very least think Leighton is prideful, then you clearly have some extreme unchecked biases towards anyone who disagrees with calvinism. Maybe watch his last video where he apologizes to Chris Date immediately for misrepresenting him and then proceeds to concede points to him regarding using the term "arbitrary" to represent calvinists. Prideful, right?
I think Leighton is a kind man. Inconsistent, sure. But the comment sections on his videos... man. You want to get called a heretic and told you're going to hell and serve demons, go talk attempt to talk Calvinism with people in his comment sections. I've been a believer for over 20 years, but a few years ago I dedicated myself to making scripture a priority, reading the Word everyday, being disciplined, etc. The more I did that, the more "calvinist" I became, but I went searching for "both sides" of the argument and found Leighton's channel. While I thought he seemed like a nice guy, his "jump from text to an analogy, work your presuppositions into that analogy, and backfeed it into the text" argument style didn't really ring true with me. But when I went to discuss in the comment sections, it was like throwing meat into the shark tank. There'd be the charitable believer here or there, but 95% of the time it was strawmen and heresy accusations.
@@MansterBear Yeah that stuff has to stop on both sides. I disagree wholly with all the "analegesis" and "story time with uncle leighton" stuff that gets thrown around at him. He has stated countless times that hes not a very bright man and that what he discusses are views that have been spelled out by scholars and theologians, not simply his own work. His website contains links, books, papers, names of scholars etc. It seems that calvinists think that the depth of provisionism is simply whatever analogies Leighton puts in a TH-cam video or that it's supposed to be some deep exegetical video, but that's missing the point of his videos and ministry. Countless times on his programs over the years has he said "Go and read the best scholars on *both* sides". I think calvinists cling so tightly to exegesis (which don't get me wrong, is fantastic) to the point that they forget good hermeneutics and begin reading texts in a vacuum which just breeds bad theology. If you're getting your understanding of the non-calvinist position solely from Leighton and his comment section, then that's on you (not trying to sound mean here) and I am not surprised you became frustrated. When I began listening to Leighton, I took his comments and analogies and scriptural references and began searching the scriptures and reading the scholarship, not just taking his word for it.
@@CBALLEN Sure, whatever Tim, Leighton Flowers is a pelagian, heretical, synergistic, man-centered choice meat one string banjo. Now that we all agree, can we please get over this grade school name calling and labeling and just discuss the text and arguments? Seriously exhausting to constantly have to address stuff like this as if it's relevant. Both sides of this discussion need to be better about nonsense like this.
Real question here: Wouldn't us turning to Jesus be an action/work on our part? Then we could say, "I turned to Jesus when I heard His call." Looking for more understanding.
Cheryl Smith the Calvinist answer is that he made you alive because you were dead so you could hear. The Armenian answer is that receiving a gift, particularly one you didn’t earn, is by no means a work.
If you are truly born again, its because God had mercy on you, He opened your eyes, He allowed you to see the truth, and so you turning to Jesus in repentance is a natural reaction to God opening your eyes, and calling you, drawing you to Him.
@@keith3362 Jesus is continously being lifted up. Are ALL men saved? No. Jesus said most people will go to hell. The "all men" means Jesus will draw all sorts of people to Him. He will draw Jews, gentiles, foreigners, Indians, natives, men women...the "all" means all sorts or all kinds of people, if it was literally All People, everyone would go to heaven, hell would be empty!
A perfect examp!e of non sequiturs I just heard pastor Jeff for the first time this week on the cultish show, about detecting herbal church. I am very Ydiapointed to know learn that he is deluded by limited atonement.
Here is absolute Biblical proof that God does NOT cause or determine everything; In Jeremiah 19:5 God says, “They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal-something I did NOT COMMAND or mention, nor did it enter my mind.” 2nd Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is…not willing that ANY should perish but that ALL should come to repentance.” and yet, it also has Jesus saying, "Broad is the road that leads to destruction (hell) and many are on it, but straight and narrow is the road that leads to life (Heaven) and few ever find it.
He didn’t command Adam to eat the forbidden fruit. From the parent’s perspective, just because you give your child(ren) a set rules does that negate your foreknowledge of them breaking them anyway?
If everything happens according to God's will as per Calvinism, then a lot of really evil things happen, that God has called sin. According to Calvinism, God tells Adam and Eve, don't eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and yet He has ordained that they will. Calvinism seems to be making God a liar, because He is telling them to not do something that He knows full well (according to Calvinism) that they have no choice but to do. We can go on and on; if God causes everything that happens, He is causing murder, rape, incest, drug use, drunkenness, lying stealing, sexual immorality, false religions, Satan worship, pedophilia, etc. The God of the Bible is love and calls us NOT to do all these things. Why would He turn around and make some do the very same things He tells us not to do? The Calvinist seems to sink on their own idea of the sovereignty of God. They don't seem to be able to acknowledge that God IN HIS SOVEREIGNTY can choose to give us some degree of free will. That's why there are so many scriptures saying "Whosoever will, may..." Scripture clearly gives us a choice. Follow Christ or not. Repent or not. Obey scripture or not. I believe, based on scripture, that God has given us choices with eternal repercussions, Heaven or Hell. That's why Joshua said choose you this day whom you will serve. I can by God's grace and the help of the Holy Spirit say, "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
The Calvinist "Doctrine of Grace" system is very much like the Hindu religion. There is a cast system for the Hindu where you are born into a high class or a lower class of human being. Calvinism is the same. You are either born Saved or born doomed. As Calvin put it doomed from the womb cast: "God arranges all things by his sovereign counsel, in such a way that individuals are born, who are doomed from the womb to certain death and are to glorify him by their destruction."( John Calvin Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 3, Chapter 23, Paragraph 6) As Calvin put it barred from access cast: “…salvation is freely offered to some while others are barred from access to it.” (John Calvin, Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 3, Chapter 21, Paragraph 5) Isn't interesting that most cults have a lot in common. I prefer Christianity that teaches stuff like the following to clear things up. Say to them: ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked should turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’ Ezekiel 33:11 And This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. 1 Timothy 2 : 3-6 TRUTH IN LOVE
The irony of Calvinism, is that in seeking to maximise God's Glory by its 'overkill' view of human inability and depravity, it actually depreciates it. Yes without God we cannot know God. God in Christ did what we could never have done, and without His grace we would all die in our sin. But the 'ins and outs' of how the Lord initially and undeniably reveals Himself to us within the personal story of our individual lives (often through no effort of our own), differs from person to person, and ultimately remains a mystery: an unresolved tension between Divine Sovereignty and human free will within a coplex universe. But faith comes by hearing... and hearing by the word of God. What is clear, is that God does not unilaterally and arbitrarily choose some to heaven... and some to hell. We are depraved... But not totally (we bare His Image) Our election is conditional (upon our response of trust 'In Christ') Christ died for all equally (He represented all of humanity) We may resist His grace (even almost irrisistablly powerful grace) We must persevere to the end (Salvation is not a 'thing'... But a Person) Though the godly use of our will and our constant choice to repent (as believers inspired and enabled by the constant influence of Divine Grace of course), we clearly have 'a part' to play on our journey of salvation. This 'cooperation' (Gk: synergeia) is as clear a teaching of Paul's as any other, and actually brings maximum joy to the heart of our Creator - In Who's Image we are made. This cooperation also being clear in both the entirity of Scripture, and in our daily experience of faith. We are not saved / justified by the works of the Law. Neither by our own good works outside of the pure Gift of His Grace. But we are not "justified by faith alone" (James 2:24). We travel on the path of righteousness by the outworking of our faith (sourced in the faithfulness of Christ) - through love. We work out what He works in, and in so doing, we do not "drift" and "ignore" our great salvation - Christ our true life - in Whom we are to be "found". God is our 'prize' ! We are saved by grace, through faith, in Christ, and are "created to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to walk in". We will all be judged according to our works because what we do with our minds is what we end up doing with our bodies (we are not 'dualists' - we are soul and body united). What we DO (or not) with what He has DONE (the finished work) - how we cooperated (or not) with His Spirit, will be clearly shown and known on that day. What did we really want ? How did we treat His gracious treasure ? He alone gives us the desire for Himself ! But it is possible to lose it. "Not everyone who says to Me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom... but only those who do the will of my Father in heaven". God does not 'force', He inspires and draws and guides us. To all who receive Him, to those who believe in His name, He gives power / the right to become sons of God, and from that point on, He (apart from Whom we can do nothing of any eternal worth) continues to give us His power as we "Partake of the divine nature". "For those who are led by the Spirit are sons of God" "Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked; a man reaps what he sows: the one who seeks to please the flesh, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who seeks to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life" "For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live" "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life" "IF you remain in Me, and I in you" "IF My word abides in you" "IF you eat My flesh and drink My blood" "IF you continue in your faith... not moved from the hope held out in the Gospel" And so, as obedient children who are in the process of learning and growing up into Him Who is our Salvation, WE "choose life"; WE "work out our salvation with fear and trembling"; WE "build ourselves up in our most holy faith" and "offer our bodies as a living sacrifice" IN RESPONSE TO THE ONE WHO FIRST LOVED US. (we cooperate) "for it is God Who works in us - to will and to do, according to His purpose" "as we wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring us to eternal life" We must "abide". James 2 isnt about salvation, its about how you know youre saved. Major difference. Paul says if it on the basis of works then its no longer grace. To the one who works what is received is NOT a gift but a wage. Your system has destroyed grace, you can go on about how necessary grace is but it doesnt matter. If salvation is a gift then it cant be brought about by your works because then its no longer grace or a gift.

Calvinism is not a heresy. It is based on biblical principles, not manmade laws. If you study out each point, reading the Bible for yourself, you will see that the Bible and these principles line up.
Calling Calvinism Doctrines of Grace is ridiculous. That's like wrapping your dog's medicine in cheese so he will swallow it. The entire gospel message given to the whole world is about grace. its interesting that people will make up their own ideas about who or how God is or works because they cannot comprehend what the Bible is telling them.
If God put his laws in their hearts, and wrote them on their minds, how is it possible for there to be disagreement about what others know in their hearts and believe in their minds about God, or his Word?
Blargleman The Skeptic well what you just asked in my opinion is all apologetics. What God wrote in our hearts is His law such as “thou shall not murder” all of that & other commands the Lord asks of us. As far as wisdom & understanding, i’m assuming one would have to study the Bible & learn actual meanings of what the Lord is describing to us or explaining to us. Good question my friend.
@@blarglemantheskeptic they aren't God's people. Any true follower of God know's that murder is wrong, and even people who don't believe in God know murder is wrong. In the case of say for example Joshua, who was led by God to destroy other people for their land, that land was given to them by God. Those people did unimaginable things which is why i assume God had them destroyed, and you could even use that for the case of the Native Americans possibly. Native Americans did not know the God of the Bible, and went after the Baal's, so you could say God had them wiped out for a land of Christianity. Question. After listening to this sermon. Did I understand that you teach the doctrines of grace are essential doctrines ? Are they essential to the Gospel ?
He's saying that they are. Without them, the Gospel makes no sense and you are left with an unbiblical view of God. You could picture them as the bones to the flesh of the Gospel.
God does not predestine people to hell. Human beings have free will. He DOES NOT ordain to come to pass everything he decrees. If you don’t believe me, read 2 Peter, it’s Gods will that none would perish. Sadly, we know many will perish (Matthew 7:14) just because God is sovereign and can see down the corridors of time DOES NOT mean that’s how we should think. Everyone has a choice. God so loved the world (the entire world) that he died for WHOSOEVER would call upon his name.
Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Specific men ordained for destruction
Calvinism teaches the doctrine of predestination. Wich is saying that no matter if you repent or not it don't matter cause God already chose who he's gonna save. This Is NOT biblical. It contradicts the free will God has given us! Do not be deceived by these false doctrine. If it's not in the Bible don't listen to. It.
No it’s not true. Simple. Jesus took the sins of the WORLD. Jesus said if He is lifted up He will draw all men. God is not willing that any should perish. If God hated Esau then Jesus wants you to hate your parents (both not true). The scripture about Esau in Romans is not about eternal salvation but about Israel being the chosen nation. Having faith in Jesus is NOT a work. If you really think that you are deceived. If God so loved the WORLD that he gave His only son, did He change his mind? To say the atonement of Jesus is limited is not biblical, made up, false doctrine.
"What Is Calvinism?" It is a "thesis" spawned by John Calvin (July 10, 1509 - May 27, 1564) in France; that became quite popular to given persons; but quite different from the main stay; in Christianity in those days. Yet to this day, there is a humongous multitude of people; who believe as John believed. Thus it became a "Calvinism" religion. And the most noted thesis of him and his beliefs; was "Predestination". Which means that EVERY movement we do from birth to death; was predestined by God; before creation. Sad that he confused "Predestination" and "Omniscience". IE: Predestination means that God caused it. Omniscience means God KNEW; before everything that would happen; but He did NOT cause it to happen. Oh yes! Sadder: Some say that both are identical. That is pure "Hogwash"! Any way...He also believed that "Once Saved, always Saved". Which angered MOST of the Christian world. And that has not stopped ever since. The Baptists believe that too; and they have been mocked ever since. Calvin had some more beliefs that he adamantly said was true. But I have forgotten what they are. But you can look it up in Wikipedia. Be that it is, he was quite a dynamic man; that few could knock him off the stage. LOL Although I do not believe in most of what he believed I have a lot of respect for him. Because what ever he was; he was NEVER "Lukewarm"! And you can take that to the bank; and your check will NOT bounce. GAR-OWN-TEED! And Praise Jesus! Amen!
Do you have children? Do you pray to God for their salvation? If you don’t have children do you pray that your friends be saved? If you do that means you believe as John Calvin did. Why do you ask God to do something for you children or your friends salvation if he can’t and won’t do anything about it? You don’t want to be labeled a Calvinist but when it comes to salvation and your prayers for your family members or friends, you are one!!

I think it’s important to remember something: Jesus never said you have to believe in anything but Him. I’m a reformed person, and I know a lot of people who believe that Jesus taught you have to believe in Him+reformed theology, thus making Calvinists the same as Arminians. If someone believes only in Jesus for salvation, then isn’t that all that’s required? God is working all things out and they might not understand the SCIENCE of salvation now, but they know and believe in the God who does.

I have a simple question. Pauls ministry was the Gospel of Grace, his ministry and Gospel were revealed to him by the ascended Jesus Christ directly. The Gospel and it's means to salvation and the body of Christ that it pertained to was also mystery . Those mysteries kept secret from all generations, all ages, all sons of men since the world began. How can John 10 and John 6 have anything to do with the Gospel of Grace ? Here's the passages to validate my question ? Acts 20:24 "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God" Galatians 1:11-12 - "For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ." Romans 16:25 - "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began," Ephesians 3:1-6 "For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; Col 1:24-27 - "Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church: Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:"
One bible verse I cannot reconcile with calvinism is 1 corinthians 10for if any one may see thee that hast knowledge in an idol’s temple reclining at meat - shall not his conscience - he being infirm - be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols, 11and the brother who is infirm shall perish by thy knowledge, because of whom Christ died? How can someone for whom Christ died be in danger of perishing? I've seen calvinists say perishing doesn't mean going to hell it means temporary falling into sin but that's not what the word means or how it's used the greek word is apollomie which means completely destroyed and is regularly used to mean going to hell.
Admittedly I have not listened to the sermon yet; I notice you have fawning/adoring fans in the comment section (a little cultish sounding [a few of them]). But I have heard every angle of this stuff since I was a small child. I have argued and discussed and studies and I am willing to bet I have a handle on the subjected better than but a few. Having said this, the greatest sermon is the culture something creates. Example: everywhere Christianity goes, freedom and prosperity grow. Everywhere Jesus went, people were set free and the sick healed. How does this reflect on Calvinism? Right or wrong, Calvinists are arrogant and often violent about their point of view. Who was it that asked Jesus, shall we call fire from heaven to consume them, when the town refused to lodge Jesus and the disciples? Jesus responded: you know not what spirit you are of. Why are Calvinists so angry, so ridiculously sure? Psych studies have shown that people who do not question their own belief are the one's who are most mistaken. Jesus' work on the cross cannot be diminished no matter what but I challenge Calvinists, why are you so arrogant and if you are not willing to truly put your belief on the list of: I could be wrong, then are you believing in the Gospel or are you simply trapped in a dogma? Feel free to believe what you wish but when you tell God this is the way he has to do things, he will shock you; just ask the Pharisees about the Sabbath.
@Shnark Unpacking your reply is not reasonably possible here. But consider the following: - You will know them by their love. - A young man healed by Christ was hauled before the priests. His response to their doctrine was something like: I don't know about your theology but I know he [Jesus] is from God because he does good. To this the priests had no answer but to grumble. - Haters of God use Scripture to accuse Christianity of being pro-slavery. Then you point them to history proving that everywhere slavery has been abolished it was because of Christians. James basically says: don't tell me you're a Christian; show me. As well, going into a dissertation is not possible, here. Scripture is obviously key. Labeling doctrines is almost never, if ever, a good thing. Fully explaining this would be more laborious than hitting the doctrine itself. Suffice to say, doing so causes distortion, confusion and division. There is no Calvinism in Christ. There's just the Gospel. Calvinism encompasses more than a single topic, it is almost a philosophy within a philosophy. Again, never a good thing. Finally, I am no stranger to Calvinists: my uncle was a Calvinist pastor. I have gone to Calvinist churches (for regular Sunday service). Invariably, on this topic, they almost always become angry and at times violent. The few who have not approach none Calvinists with flippant dismissal. One Calvinist I knew, a good man on all accounts, told me: "It's revealed truth: it has to be revealed to you;" and then walked away refusing to further discuss the matter. Apparently he was on a higher spiritual plane. Dealing with his answer in full, again, is impossible here. But in my experience (those who really attack to it) are arrogant and angry about defending Calvinism. Calvin himself burned a man at the stake. Finally, finally: regardless of where you come down on the particular doctrinal aspects of Calvinism, Calvinists believe that if God does not control every decision of every creature, that God cannot be God. And this is my main divide with Calvinism. This limiting of God's authority and power is wrong. In fact, that God is God regardless of the free will of his creation punctuates God's Godness, if you will. Okay, have a good day.
@Shnark I am watching. He says that if you reject unconditional election then it becomes a situation where the person becomes saved because of them. That's a flat lie. And this is why named doctrines are so dangerous. We become so dedicated to our pet doctrine that we suspend logic and twist Scripture to fit it. I like how he goes over that cults say the believe in specific Scriptures but they miss the true message. Too true. He does the same thing when he interprets passages that talk about God being God and then uses eisegesis to apply an interpretation that neither naturally fits, nor is trumpeted by the apostles. Bad doctrine comes about by not reading Scripture as a tapestry but instead unhealthily concentrating on a point, thereby losing context and balance. You want Scriptures. I'll just use his. His interpretation is stressed when rested against Scripture as a whole. It's stressed given his own sermon talking about anxiety. Well, if we are not understanding the Sovereignty of God, according to him, it's because God wants us to misunderstand it. But this is ridiculous, isn't it? Yes, I agree. And why did it take Calvin to understand this? He says there was a type of revival but I beg to differ. It was a movement, not a revival. The distinction is important. God put a Law in place in the Cosmos. God did not put that Rule to violate that it, but to conform to it. If he is right then Jesus dying on the cross was silly. Jesus just would have said: you, you, you: saved. The rest, to Hell with you. No suffering and cross needed. But this is not the Nature of God and it is the Nature of God which you and he do not understand. Look how God deals with his people. Look how God orchestrates history and how he reacts to Man. (I assume for this little ditty that you agree with the speaker) You are a Christian Viking. That's great. But God is not a Viking. Notice the people of God (the Jews): how humanistic they were and are and how this is how most Christians across the globe are. I know you have a problem with the word humanistic because for many it has come to mean that humans are all in all. I don't mean the word in this way. I do mean it in the sense that God's love for us is like the love of a groom for his bride. His love seethes with mercy and giving. He revels in the choice of his lover and the interaction between them is beautiful because it is made of choices. God has told us several times why we were created. For you, God created us as a craft project. But God created us to be his friends. Read the account of the transfiguration. What did God say about Abraham when God was heading toward Sodom and Gomorah? Will I withhold what I am about to do from my friend? Your rigid and bloody doctrine takes the sweetness of our relationship and turns into nothing but God's favorite little robot. If God just wanted robots, then why all of this. I know, you are not allowed to think like this; you are not allowed to use logic and intellect because it might offend God's sovereignty. But the God I serve says: come, let us walk one with another and talk and we'll work things out.
To imply that the sovereignty of God and Calvinism are somehow intertwined is a step too far. Calvinist do not have a special illumination of His sovereignty. God is sovereign and can therefore do as he chooses. Yes, He could choose to save some and damn others solely by the power of his might and His will. Or, he could choose to give his fallen image-bearers the wherewithal to accept or reject his offering of grace. In either case he is still sovereign. I choose the latter. Secondly, to claim that the five tenets of neo-calvinism are the "doctrines of grace" is presumptuous and completely of human origin. Scripturally, the is but one doctrine of grace which is manifested in countless ways and not limited to soteriology.
This is what I what I was thinking. God can sovereignly demand that people have free will. They have free will because God allowed them too. And if those people make their own free will decisions that it would still be under God’s sovereignty.

I love this. You go Jeff great preacher with humbleness and yet shares Gods word in a way you should understand it. God bless all!!
Go Jeff Go....Yes your 'Doctrine of Demons" is harsh sounding. Calvinists don't like it much, as they are always softening harsh words.
Eg. They change "Selective lottery salvation" "One cast to Hell and one cast to Heaven" to soft comforting fluffy words like "Sovereign Grace"
Yes baby Christians on the bottle, who get drawn into the flame of Calvinism can be saved in that evil system, as long as they don't grow. Then they leave the building screaming as the many on youtube testify!
As far as the Troll word I used, it should not seem strange. A Demonic Troll by any other name would be. Tempter, evil spirit, son of hell, false teacher... etc. They all have the same desire. To keep out the light or squash any light that comes into the blackness of false religion.
So in conclusion. Calvinism is a "Doctrine of Demons" and those who know what it stands for like Piper, MacArthur, Washer, Boucham, Lawson, White have become the high priests of 'Another Gospel".
See how simple the truth can be?
Truth in Love
I agree with every word of this sermon, but especially love the Gospel presentation at the end. So many cultural Christians.
When he said that God knows the sparrow that falls and of course him knowing us all knowingly is intimate. When you go to that passage when Christ talks about not being anxious commanding us not to be. Or also when Jeff said that even the Sands and everything moving is all ordained by God. It brings us a surpassing unexplainable peace that goes beyond all understanding is that when you know God is in control and he is Sovereign over everything down to the tiniest micro-level to everything. it's just breathtaking in mind blowingly incomprehensible as Jeff says.
Or Maybe God wants you to be anxious.

Sometimes all we have to do is to hear the reading of God's living Word. It's all very clear if we have ears to hear through the Spirit of God.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9:::this is clearly saving faith that is not of your own doing.

Calvin Peterson any Protestant martyr before 1600 and mostly after since Jacob Arminius was deemed a heretic after 152 trials of his theology
Calvin Peterson yes if any Christian before the reformation did rise up today they would be totally aghast at any such suggestion by any denomination, 1500 years of nothing like what we have after
Calvin Peterson how about the 60 million Protestants? (Fact checked and this is false)
Calvin Peterson wrong. Most Protestants of this era believed in the doctrines of grace taught by Luther
Waldesians, puritans... etc etc
Im so glad ur opening a church on kauai. Thats where im from i hope u save my ohana & friends on kauai. May god bless u always
Then you fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to you “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
And you said, “Who are You, Lord?”
Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”
Then fast forward about approx. It said simply this, “Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead), and all the brethren who are with me,
To the churches of Galatia:
Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. 🎚🩸📖🙏🏼😇
Ok its Apologia church Mesa, AZ 🎉🎉
I really believe this in my spirit and my mind. I believe this is true according to the Bible. I need an answer to this: why does God send people to eternal hell when he willed for them to not choose him, and when he wills for them to do evil? I do not understand... is God punishing Himself? That doesn’t sound right to me, but I do not know what is.
Calvinism is just an interpretation. Don't let this blind you, please!
It doesn't sound right because it is NOT....you Josh believe God not these nut cases.
Amen
Josh Lewis Romans 9:19 is Paul responding to this objection exactly...word for word.
Calvinism is a theological response, that, astonishingly does not add/subtract anything from Christ's atonement.
Why was a Christ needed at all?
An omniscient God would know how to make creation without the flaws that necessitated an atonement in the first place. An omnibenevolent God would not make rules that would condemn his creations for acting as he KNEW they would act.

Well done Pastor Jeff!
Am I actually a Calvinist lol? I have always understood His Sovereignty and when I pray, I always ask for Him to open people’s eyes, change us, help us, ect. Wow.
Don’t you think it would be pointless to pray to God to save your children if he it’s not responsible for doing anything about it? If God is not 100% in salvation, you are wasting your time praying.!!! Every person who hates the word Calvin, is a Calvinist when they pray for the salvation of their friends and family members!
@@treythompson4103
If I pray for the salvation of anyone, it’s because I believe that God can work in their lives and that it’s not already predetermined for them. If I were a Calvinist, then praying would change nothing in someone’s salvation. The numbers are settled.
If I believe that salvation is possible for everyone then my prayers can provoke God to bring about hardships on a person or miracles or other things to help them see their need.
Why would a Calvinist pray for salvation?
@@evanu6579 God bless you, I think you are completely missing the point. If God is not sovereignly in control of salvation ( which is what an Arminian believes) why pray for Him to help you’re loved one to believe???
@@treythompson4103
God bless you as well.
Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
Fire message! 🔥🔥
What people misunderstand about what Calvinism means
1) we don't have free will.
Just to clear things up, God does give us a free will, but according to our free will, we do not choose him. That's why he chooses to give grace to whom he will have grace on.
Olga R
God so loved the world...
Do not be afraid. I bring you news of great joy that will be for all people. Luke 2:10
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Matt. 23:37
Calvinism makes God the sinner. False gospel
Fried Motherboards just out of curiosity how does it make God the sinner? God does not make people sin. God does give us a free will, but we do no choose him. That's why Jesus reveals himself to whom he chooses. John 6:44 . Not because they were special, but because he
Chose to have mercy on sinners.
Romans9:16
Deborah Dowden John 6:44 no one can come to Jesus unless the father draws them
Ephesians 1:5 our adoption was predestined by God as his will
Romans 9:16 so then it depends not on human will but Gods mercy
Acts 7:51 our own free will does not want God
God gives us the decision to choose him and we do not. That is our fee will. That's why Christ died for the elect, the people he chose, not because we wanted him. Our will brings us to hell, his will makes us seen as justified though Jesus Christ and that is not our doing.
@@olgar1474 Olga, I will give you three things to think about:
1) First of all please re-read John 6:44.

A choice doesn't necessarily have to be a "work." Isn't it possible that God knew every choice that every human would make before Adam breathed his first breath, and with that knowledge he opened the eyes of the people that he knew would hear the gospel and repent, allowing them to see and have faith?
God wrote the whole story before time and we are the characters in His book.
With that being said, I think that us as believers can get a little too “caught up” with certain verbiage in the text-not saying don’t take any part of the Word less seriously because we should definitely keep as many of His words stored & marked in our hearts as possible-that we lose sight of the bigger picture God has painted for us…
For God and God alone, I believe that two-otherwise mutually exclusive when referring to His creation-events can be true.

As a Christian, why would I want to call myself a Calvinist? Why not just call myself a Christian based on the One I serve?
A Reprobate will not believe in Christ. The fact that if a person believes in Christ is proof that they're elect. Atheists cannot accept the gospel.
If you are in Christ and follow him and love him, you are elected and will not be lost. You cannot lose your salvation. Remember that God never changes His mind. If you have repented and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ...you are elect, and God will not change his mind.
@@prudyray then should God hold them responsible for what they cannot help but doing?
If you believe in Christ, not Calvinism, and repent of your sins you are saved. If you feel sorrow over your sins and long for Jesus then He promises that you are saved. It's not hit or miss. Paul says, "I write this little children that you may KNOW that you have eternal life...." You won't be surprised. Jesus said that he knows his sheep and his sheep hear him.
Good stuff

Check out a book by Andrew Farley called twisted scripture.
Yes, but I'm not sure if they understand that line of logic, it is different after all.
The more I study the scriptures the more I believe syngerism is unbiblical.
@@axiomwealthstrategies that is even less of an answer than your last one.
Arminians tend to hold that God is sovereign, while also holding that salvation is dependent on the will of man. It can't be both. Because scripture is so clear on this doctrine, they then have to jump through hoops to get these verses to mean what they want. It is so freeing to simply read the word and believe what it says.
Did God give Adam and Eve the choice to eat the fruit?
Thank you. That was excellently put.
@@arianarubytemple6008 thank you. Truth is clear : the reformed Calvinist position is novel, unbiblical (according to the already existing Jewish view of God and the earliest interpreters of the Christian era - the apostolic fathers), unhistorical, illogical and philisophically detestable

God not only chose His people, but also the means. We don't know who's saved.

Well done sir. God richly bless.

Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:37-44 AKJV) Sovereign election in a nutshell.
13 As it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."
14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means!
15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."
16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."
18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
19 You will say to me then, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?"
20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, "Why have you made me like this?" (Romans 9:13-20, ESV)
When I read this I wonder what the debate is about.

As I watch I have a question. What do you believe about the Holy Spirit baptism and praying in the Spirit? I ask humbly wanting to know
Reformed Christians are typically (but not always) cessationists.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
The man of God can be fully equipped and competent for every good work through scripture.
Justin Peters has a lot of good info on cessationism so if you want to learn more I’d recommend checking out his channel.
If you pray to the God of the Bible and are truly regenerate then every time you pray you ARE praying in the spirit.
Bravo! 👏👏👏
If we are 100% free to choose our hearts desire, then our choices are by definition, ex nihilo, and thus can't be contingent. If they are contingent, then we _necessarily_ can't be free to choose to do otherwise.

(even the Catholics understand this, it’s why Maryology evolved, to get a loving mother to placate her wrathful son)

What is Calvinism? I believe in John 3:16. We need to unite not divide in the name of Jesus Christ.

@@Jason-rl7nf thank you God bless everyone
(NOT just his elect, not just some chosen few)
• Wouldnt it make God the author of evil?
You can try and say, “none of us deserve to get to Heaven anyways, so it’s amazing he allows SOME TO!”
Oh yeah??
An Arminian is willing to say “I don’t know why, or how...but it’s what the text SAYS, and I’m not going to add my own sense to it”
A Calvinist God has no reason to ever show surprise/anger/regret/ or sadness...all things God shows over and over again.
I disagree. I believed the doctrines of Grace just from reading John, Acts, and Romans before I even knew what Calvinism was
I started looking into and learning about the doctrines of grace through my own study, before I’d ever heard it taught.

I disagree wholly with all the "analegesis" and "story time with uncle leighton" stuff that gets thrown around at him.

He didn’t command Adam to eat the forbidden fruit. From the parent’s perspective, just because you give your child(ren) a set rules does that negate your foreknowledge of them breaking them anyway?
So many strawmans in this. I am now convinced that Calvinists intentionally deceive.
Can you give an example?
So many strawmans (?) in this. I am now convinced that Synergists intentionally deceive.
Our hairs are numbered ,meaning, God determines the number.

The Calvinist "Doctrine of Grace" system is very much like the Hindu religion.
There is a cast system for the Hindu where you are born into a high class or a lower class of human being.
Calvinism is the same. You are either born Saved or born doomed.
As Calvin put it doomed from the womb cast:
"God arranges all things by his sovereign counsel, in such a way that individuals are born, who are doomed from the womb to certain death and are to glorify him by their destruction."( John Calvin Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 3, Chapter 23, Paragraph 6)
As Calvin put it barred from access cast:
“…salvation is freely offered to some while others are barred from access to it.” (John Calvin, Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 3, Chapter 21, Paragraph 5)
Isn't interesting that most cults have a lot in common.
I prefer Christianity that teaches stuff like the following to clear things up.
Say to them: ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked should turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’ Ezekiel 33:11
And
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. 1 Timothy 2 : 3-6
TRUTH IN LOVE
Jesus loves you*.
But not totally
(we bare His Image)
Our election is conditional
(upon our response of trust 'In Christ')
Christ died for all equally
(He represented all of humanity)
We may resist His grace
(even almost irrisistablly powerful grace)
We must persevere to the end
(Salvation is not a 'thing'... But a Person)
Though the godly use of our will and our constant choice to repent (as believers inspired and enabled by the constant influence of Divine Grace of course), we clearly have 'a part' to play on our journey of salvation.
To all who receive Him, to those who believe in His name, He gives power / the right to become sons of God, and from that point on, He (apart from Whom we can do nothing of any eternal worth) continues to give us His
power as we "Partake of the divine nature".
"For those who are led by the Spirit are sons of God"
"Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked; a man reaps what he sows: the one who seeks to please the flesh, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who seeks to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life"
"For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live"
"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life"
"IF you remain in Me, and I in you"
"IF My word abides in you"
"IF you eat My flesh and drink My blood"
"IF you continue in your faith... not moved from the hope held out in the Gospel"
And so, as obedient children who are in the process of learning and growing up into Him Who is our Salvation, WE "choose life"; WE "work out our salvation with fear and trembling"; WE "build ourselves up in our most holy faith" and "offer our bodies as a living sacrifice" IN RESPONSE TO THE ONE WHO FIRST LOVED US. (we cooperate) "for it is God Who works in us - to will and to do, according to His purpose" "as we wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring us to eternal life"
We must "abide".
Simply keep the connection.
Trust and obey.
We are not eternally secure, untill we are securely in eternity

James 2 isnt about salvation, its about how you know youre saved. Major difference. Paul says if it on the basis of works then its no longer grace. To the one who works what is received is NOT a gift but a wage. Your system has destroyed grace, you can go on about how necessary grace is but it doesnt matter. Calvinism is a heresy that few point out!
Teaching a false "bad news" gospel, that if God didn't choose you for heaven before you were born then you're going to hell; and there's nothing you can do about it, is not DOCTIRINES OF GRACE. "What Is Calvinism?"
It is a "thesis" spawned by John Calvin (July 10, 1509 - May 27, 1564) in France; that became quite popular to given persons; but quite different from the main stay; in Christianity in those days.
LOL
Although I do not believe in most of what he believed I have a lot of respect for him. Because what ever he was; he was NEVER "Lukewarm"! And you can take that to the bank; and your check will NOT bounce. GAR-OWN-TEED! And Praise Jesus!

Do you have children? Do you pray to God for their salvation? If you don’t have children do you pray that your friends be saved? If you do that means you believe as John Calvin did. Why do you ask God to do something for you children or your friends salvation if he can’t and won’t do anything about it? I think it’s important to remember something: Jesus never said you have to believe in anything but Him. I’m a reformed person, and I know a lot of people who believe that Jesus taught you have to believe in Him+reformed theology, thus making Calvinists the same as Arminians. If someone believes only in Jesus for salvation, then isn’t that all that’s required? I have a simple question.
Pauls ministry was the Gospel of Grace, his ministry and Gospel were revealed to him by the ascended Jesus Christ directly. The Gospel and it's means to salvation and the body of Christ that it pertained to was also mystery . Those mysteries kept secret from all generations, all ages, all sons of men since the world began.
How can John 10 and John 6 have anything to do with the Gospel of Grace ?
Here's the passages to validate my question ?
Acts 20:24 "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God"
Galatians 1:11-12 - "For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ."
Romans 16:25 - "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,"
Ephesians 3:1-6 "For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
Col 1:24-27 - "Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church: Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:"
All 5 points of calvinism….the entirety of TULIP….is unbiblical. Bad bad stuff folks.
