Have you tried either of these?
Or Would you recommend any other similarly priced HSS Strats? 😀

For me the brand worthy of my hard earned dosh is: Soloking
Compared to others twice the price they are good value but much much more than that is that they seem to be excellent quality music making machinery.
I now have two - one is an HH varient and the other HSS variant all with an 'S' or 'ST' type body.
And this runs against my policy "Oh! No! Never ever gonna buy another guitar ever again. Not ever! Never! Uh-huh !'

@@Alan-zf2tt Ha! Yes indeed mate - The Solokings are bonkers for the price. Harley Benton Quality/prices which is amazing considering they have to pay distribution. I had the MS1 Classic and it wasn't for me - but still great guitars 👍

Have the jet lefty tele and it is good but the roasted maple neck mine has is not anyway darker looking than most standard maple necks. Nothing wrong with it apart from the mini/dime pots I would like to swap out but fullsize wont fit without work!

I liked the Jet headstock better, but I'll not hold it against you. I have a Donner DST-200 (got it for REALLY cheap), and it's a fine instrument. It's almost on par with the two you just reviewed. The only thing I changed were the strings.

I like the format of this comparison: with the short demos regularly spaced throughout the verbal discussion.
When you have to watch a solid 20 mins of someone playing the same riffs, flicking through all the pickup combinations, for both dirty and clean, it can become all to easy for ‘one’s attention to drift..’
This comparison held my attention throughout - nice one Steve 👍

Thanks for the video Steve. I have four Squiers and am happy with all of them. I feel many of the comparisons you made are subjective. And that is perfectly fine. In the end what matters most is that a guitar makes you happy when you play it.

Absolutely awesome video! Love the effects and editing. You can tell you put a lot of time and effort into your videos. I’m definitely taking notes! Both guitars are similar, I think the jet for the price is a great choice. Squire has a name and mostly you’re paying for that.

      😂👍🎯
      Thank ya kindly mate 🙏
I used to use SSS exclusively for over a decade on my Strat, but barely used the bridge pickup. Since I went HSS, I get a lot more use out of all the pickup positions. The humbucker in the bridge is more useful for anything, that needs a bit more distortion (for noise) good for solos in my covers band situation.
A bridge single coil, might me more useful for someone who is aiming to nail that specific tone, or is into maybe surf, surf/rock, anything from the 60's generally a more vintage bright twangy tone.
I'd say the best of both worlds could either be, HSS with a coil split (that's what i do), Or HSS Strat and an SS Tele for whenever you need a bridge single coil tone - the Tele does it best 😜👍
      All "imo" of course

Great video Steve, your channel is looking super slick and professional, both you and Brian (SFT) have massively upped the stakes in terms of production values for small channels, really inspiring.
I’m a Squier fan but I was really underwhelmed by this one, you’re right, it doesn’t stack up against the Jet at all. I don’t like the thinner bodies, that’s why I prefer really old ones. But for me it’s the details like the contouring and the rolled fretboard edges that give Jet the edge, they’re doing exactly the right thing in today’s market - it’s all about points of differentiation.

Well , I don't want to put the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons here , but I recently bought a new Sonic Squier after watching a few reviews ( yours included ) and I play it more than my Edwards Les Paul now , £110 and it just fits me like a glove . Hi Steve, I've had a couple of Squire Strats in my time and I thought they were fine. One of them looked really cool because it was in a fancy colour, I think it was called "Shoreline Gold" but I might be remembering that wrong. Never tried a Jet "S" style but I did have a strum on a Jet Tele type in my local emporium. I played a Fender Tele for 20 years and loved it, I thought the Jet had the same feel and it felt like meeting up with an old friend while I was playing it so maybe one day I'll go for one. At the price it was terrific deal.

Yes, very interested in whether Jet can make inroads here in the States.
As I mention any time possible, the Squier Standard Series (discontinued in 2019) is my go-to Strat. I've picked up four used over the years (plus one Tele) to bolster my modding reserves. It's got modern specs, 2-post vibrato, alnico pickups, and a fat 70's headstock -- all of which are my preferences!
But those are days gone by. The reasons I could think of to stick with Squier these days would be a slightly higher resale value for the upper ranges (Classic Vibe and Contemporary), better likelihood of fitting after market parts, and the inspirations within their oddball Paranormal line.

Both are Great Guitars, fun to play and the Sunburst Finish on the Affinity is another world to ANY finish i have EVER seen. It is Amazing, a true Piece of Art. I have never tried a Jet but have 'fallen' for the Jet in Vintage Yellow with Roasted Maple Board, Aged Plastics and SSS pickups. Pity this doesn't appear to excist in JS 300 only 'Olympic White' But available in the JS400 but with HSS pickups.... Yet ..... Jet offer a JS300 'tele' in a 'Butterscotch Blonde' 'YET' (Jet) don't offer this color in strat js300. Confusing really..... But No Rush ..... I have a few 'Strat copies' to get me through .... Including a NEW boxing Day 'Bargain' DONNER DST-200 Great guitar, but do go up a series level or 2 if trying Donner strats in my opinion, I just got this one SO in well priced had to get it, lol. Let me be the first to congratulate you on your finest video yet. The cinematic appeal, editing this I know took a lot of effort.
I go back and forth on the corporate greed wagon of Fender.
I don’t know the company layout of the affordable brands. But most are small employee size and manufactured in the same factory as 5-10 brands. Those smaller brands subsidize the one factory saving costs.
Fender could match the prices by basically doing the same and eliminating a decent size work force. I wouldn’t want people to loose their jobs.
We are more willing to accept the “out of stock sign” on a Fesley, Firefly, etc… website than if Fender was out of stock. This is actually a business tactic that allows the smaller brand to. Not have to store/and overproduce to meet the needs of the consumer anytime.
Instead the limited supply makes the consumer meet the demands of the supplier.
Fender could drop the Squier line and maybe then lower the price of the rest of the ranges to make it more appealing. But the corporate greed part is the profit of one Squier I would say equals to the cost of making one player 2.
But also telling fender to give up their affordable range of guitars that they were the “originators” of seems a bit unfair.
Ask me next week and I’ll have a different opinion 🤣 funny thing is these are some of the points I was highlighting in the video I referenced during the livestream that I am reshooting 😎🤙 sorry for the ramble

My take on Fender these days is simple - I just plain don't like em 😂
LOVE the guitars (mostly) but not a fan of the company.
I probably have more Fender Branded gear than anything else.
Buying used Fender is my wee loophole, and allow Squier too, because I just make up these rules as I go along 😂

I do love a good roasted maple neck, Steve.... But I'm beginning to think it's getting a bit like the 'dry roasted' v paler 'roasted' peanuts debate in the 1980s... Cheap dry roasted nuts appeared everywhere and were a disappointment when compared to good quality 'pale' ones! Having said that, the Jet does beat the Squier Sonic hands down! Gotta go now.... I've a craving for peanuts! Thanks for another great video, m8.

But when it comes to roasted maple necks, I do prefer the paler ones, like the Fender/Jet ones, compared to the darker roasted, chocolate ones like the Harley Benton Fusions or Sires 😁👍

I just feel like the Headstock should be worth about 20 points. LOL it is SO hard to love a guitar when the headstock isn't agreeable with someone's taste. It such a hard thing to get right and so hard to be original about. I have never like a guitar with a hook-nose headstock design. I agree that the Jet is not the worst I have ever seen, but I have seen other budget strats with less offensive headstock designs. Like you said, that's just MY opinion so it's totally understandable if I am the only jerk in the room. Everything else about the Jet is fantastic. I just...have a hard time with the nose of the headstock. Great video, great playing brother!

The Jet 400 is easily comparable to entry level Mexican Fender Strats. With a few upgrades they can easily hold their own and depending on the model, even surpass American entry level Fenders.
Been playing since the 90s and have owned many Fenders. I bought a Jet 400 Strat 3 years ago and it has been my #1 and most played guitar since. The necks and the playability are outstanding.

Jet and other budget Amazon guitars like West Creek and Musi have knocked it out of the park spec-wise for a good price. • @oneanother1

Jet guitars are very niche in the US market, even then you have to factor in the oversea shipping cost and they become more expensive than some squiers. Harley Benton is in a similar position, where they usually cost a bit more than budget guitars. The budget market is so saturated though, for a highend Chinese made guitar like firefly which offers a big selection, jet guitars aren't even considered.
You also have to consider the used market place as well, theirs many outlets that sell used guitars online, and used squiers command prices of that of new squiers. There were many configuration s of the squier going back to the 80s, and some of those are highly valued by those in the know. So idk, I think most in the US are perfectly fine going with a squire, and its resale value is as good as a fender.

I'm growing more and more curious about these Jet guitars. Basswood is an underestimated tone wood. A lot of good guitars (in the 80'es at least) were made from basswood. I think I might have a few myself... somewhere. I never really look at what wood an instrument is made of. If it plays well, sounds good and looks decent then it could be made of raspberry jelly for all I care. "Ooooh, but YOUR guitar isn't REAL mahogany." Well eff you, you botanical racist, I say. All of my guitars, no matter what they're made of, are like my children. I slap them around mercilessly just to hear them cry.

9:55 disagree. why spend to upgrade a squier when you can have a jet?
10:49 absolute 100% jet wups squier on pickups
11:34 haw ref! Referee! Foul! An extra pot on dodgy pickups does not a superior sounding musical instrument make (especially when compared to Jet) (or Soloking)
    13:19 12 to 3 for the Jet!

@ I am sure the big F will not be offended. A worldwide marketing machine has been working well for decades. I wonder if big F takes royalties on S type, T types and JZ types and ...

We've spoke about this fact numerous times but fender and squier can't compete these days, I mean look at the squier sonic it looks like a toy compared to the jet and cost more or less the same price?? Squier and fender really fall behind all the time now and it's so evident to see with the jets and harley benton it's sad to see but as a company there so greedy, profit over everything sad times😢

      Hear hear Brosef! 💪😀
Yup... They'll always have that iconism and heritage associated with the brand tho. Powerful stuff. But things could change if Clapton and Malmsteen start playing Jets tho 😜
