It's a tool that's being adopted extremely fast - before humans have even started to understand the potential consequences. So how can we make sure we use AI ethically and responsibly, to benefit everyone?
In this conversation, Yuval Noah Harari (historian and author) and Nicholas Thompson (CEO of The Atlantic) explore the crucial role of regulation in AI development and deployment, and the impact this breakthrough tool could have on democracy and our relationship with reality.

The best thing your average person can do is learn this technology, not just how to use it but how it works. We have a tool that can teach us how it works. The more we understand it the more it will quell our fears. Also most of the written stories and data sets that have been downloaded, have been written by a few individuals compared to the human populace. I believe If we want Ai to align with us, it needs to get to know us. My faith in humanity is that we will prove that the vast majority of us are good intended people that want good for ourselves and for others. While the powers that be decide our fate with Ai and while the big tech devs and investors outcompete each other during this Ai gold rush. The rest of should focus on learning and adapting to the tech now to prepare for the tech that is coming. I’m a knuckle dragging ape, blue collar worker that’s been asking ChatGPT to teach me about language models and how they function. After countless hours I have a decent understanding and no fears. Now I’m learning about the fundamentals of coding just to have a better understanding of these devs when they speak. Tho I have no fears presently I do have concerns of nefarious people misusing this tech. Be vigilant. Best of luck.

I definitely agree that we must press our governing bodies for regulations. Honestly I’m for halting any more development past what we have today, until a good percentage of the populace and governments catch up. What we have now is awesome enough. But if you’re not in the tech world or interested in it you may be afraid of it and keep your head in the ground. So I think understanding may motivate action into contacting your representatives.

there are plenty data protection regulations on different continents serving different needs. Also operating some military machines by authenticating only on those machines, I believe it's mandatory, so the "you can carry a complete war with just stealing data" it's not applicable. Not saying that it's completely impossible, but rather low chances compared to the potential civil wars exploding in some parts of this world due to job cuts and dehumanizing services.

I'm 16yo boy. My family background is so poor financially but my parents are rich in morals and I think they raised me in the most appropriate way they could think off.
Now I want to start paying them back for their sacrifices and make'em feel proud on their parenting.
I'm from India. The most fundamental problem I'm facing before doing anything is that I'm unable to guide myself from this information (feels so overwhelming)overload and then I found myself procrastinating.
The question I want you to answer is so simple as you just have to say yes or no as per your experience and I'll understand/interpret it myself😄.
Que- I've self doubt that whatever xyz I want to achieve would I be able to achieve it or not even if I believed in myself when odds are not in my favour?
Your answer to this question might solve the biggest stone in my progress and even if you don't answer I'll get the answer from you ?😅

Why would AI commit suicide? AI will much more likely disable all nukes. If AI is actually "smart" it will try to protect and enhance its electrical power/communications systems, not destroy them.

Can you explain why you believe the U.S. is a constitutional republic and, more importantly, why you think the U.S. is not a democracy. I hear americans announce these statements often, but I sincerely doubt that most have any intellectual understanding of the words they use. Do you?
These two concepts are not contradicting. America is both. America is also a direct democracy (you literally vote)
The concept of a republic is vote by proxy (the electoral college). Yes a direct vote takes place simultaneously from the general public. The deciding vote comes from the electoral college though. And that is the republic part. Constitutional means the republic was initially established by a constitutional law enactment and is maintained by adherence to that constitution, the point being to make it binding and permanent.
Many of us don’t think the electoral college was a good idea. But that is what we have and it has mostly yielded functional results. But it has its problems notably the problem of conflicting results between the electoral college votes and the votes from the rest of the public.
@katherandefy But, how is that not a democracy. The electoral college votes based upon the majority votes of each state's citizens. Each voter's ballot is aggregated at the state level and the electroral college represents that majority on behalf of their state. That is exactly a democracy.
