Just a heads up, in the video the radiator fan is installed blowing air in the wrong direction for this machine. Air intake should come in the front and blow out the top. The way the fan is aimed in the video would be drawing air through the radiator and blowing it into the case.
You’ve got two intake fans, you should flip the top one to exhaust and you should use zipties because that white tie can fry your motherboard because it has metal in it.
Just ordered my R8, first Alienware and first gaming PC...specs: i5-9600k, rtx 2060 super, 16gb ram, killer wifi, liquid cooling with 850 power supply, 512gb ssd and 1tb hdd, cant wait gonna start by replacing this fan just ordered it!
I have that exact same cpu cooling set up however, wouldn't you want the fan to be facing the other direction for the airflow to push towards the outside of the radiator?
Most of the vacuum sound was coming from the top fan and the CPU fan.. once those got replaced, the front fan would make the sound under heavy work loads
For the cpu fan, you just have to make sure you plug the plugs back in the same spot as the original plugs.. if that doesn’t work. Let me know and I’ll put up a video of me taking out the H60 and putting it back in
Raydog614 hey could you make a video of you puting the h60 on please im kinda new to the pc world and i dont want to screw up my pc because i did somthing wrong..... i would apriciate it if you would make a tutorial on how to instal it
All of the chats online say all the software updates don’t fix anything.. if you replace the top fan with the Corsair H60.. that will eliminate the sound. If you don’t want to do that, just get better fans (top, CPU, and Front). Just make sure they run at 1700rpm or higher
Hey. thanks for this video. I did the same install a couple of years ago, but I don't think it has ever worked properly. First, the computer has never recognized the fan. The Corsair has a 4 pin fan connector and a 3 pin pump connector. The mobo connectors are all 4 pin. I have the 4 pin plugged into top fan, and the 3 pin plugged into cpu fan, but doesn't seem like it matters. to make matters worse, the 3 pin is very loose. I just ordered a 4 pin to 3 pin adapater to see if that helps. I just wondered how you have you Corsair plugged in. Thanks!
After replacing cpu plus top fan with corsair h60 like yours. And replace front fan... now the power supply fan stand out being noisy when using more power.... end up have to replace power supply as well....dell use cheap parts.
No hindering that Ive noticed.. graphics card stays nice a cool... Adding liquid cooling is the key for the R8 makes a huge difference. I would have loved to find an Alienware liquid cooling but I couldn’t find one lol
No.. once you remove the heat sink and fan from the CPU, the four holes that the heat sink was screwed into are used.. the Corsair comes with eight double sided screws. The long ones are the ones needed and they just screw right into the motherboard.. no back plate needed
Yeah the configuration of the R8 with the liquid cooled cpu and 2080 super would take care of the vacuum sound.. from what I’ve seen and experienced, it’s the air cooling that causes the loud noises..
Great video. Subscribed. I just got the Alienware Aurora R8 with the liquid cooled option. For me, in the Alienware OC application, it only shows temperature and fan speeds for the TOP fan and the FRONT fan. I'm confused why I don't have the CPU fan tab?
Its probably because you have the liquid cooled version. I got an r7 and went with a non liquid cooled version for the cpu so In my command center I do have the cpu fan option. For liquid cooled version you don't really need the cpu fan tab as you don't have a cpu fan to begin with. So the software for you're system will not have it.
The top fan comes right out the opening to the case, no need to take the other side or top of the case off.. you just take one screw out on the fan bracket and it all comes out.. No the thermal paste was cleaned off and I used the thermal paste that came pre applied on the Corsair H60
Does that sound card hinder the graphics fan from cooling the card? Also, My R8 came with an aluminum heatsink and a bootleg small fan so I found the OEM Alienware Water Cooling system on eBay for $56.00 and that made a huge difference.
Hey did you have to take the motherboard out to install a backplate for the liquid cooling upgrade from fan I just got my R8 and I want to upgrade to liquid cooling as well
I've got this very computer. It's super! My question, do these mods affect my warranty? I've heard that DELL doesn't like to have their computers "messed with."
I purchased the liquid cooling option for my aurora r8 and unfortunately it is still loud... Do you know how I can check on the types of fans/liquid cooling I currently have in my set up? Thanks for your help!
After I switched to the Corsair H60 liquid cooling for the CPU.. the noise stopped with initial video editing.. but after a little bit the front fan kicks on and is loud so replacing that got rid of the vacuum completely
Ok, I see, maybe I focus too much on the gpu but it might be the liquid cooling system, it worked 3 months and it has a malfunction now. Just to be sure, when you're talking about the vacuum noise, it's coming from the gpu while hot air is flowing out at the back of the desktop? Or was it coming from the front fan?
The holes should just light right up and you can use the screws that come with the liquid cooled radiator and attach it right to it.. then the radiator and the fan just sit right up in the space at the top
Thank you for this video. Mine is still under warranty so I'll check with Dell. I'm struggling with this vacuum noise since the middle of May, 3 months after delivery. And my solutions were using gpu fan curves in EVGA X1 Precision and lowering graphics settings. Did the vacuum noise come with hot air from the back of your gpu? Therefore, I have to focus on the front fan, like you said at the end of the video. Sure there's something wrong with temperature, I thought there was something wrong with OC controls in the Command Center and the bios. But the recent updates didn't fix that issue. And even a reset to factory settings wasn't enought to get rid of it. Indeed, it is a hardware issue if I well understood.
I had to remove the front fan to compensate the new RTX 3080, any ideas on work arounds because there wasn’t any room to fit the GPU without getting rid of the fan, any suggestions on what could be done to get an alternative air flow to the front?
@@StrayDog614 Thanks for the video. A couple more questions. Did you have to remove the other side or the top portion of the case to get the old top fan out? Also, you just left the original thermal paste on?

Also clean the old thermal paste off your cpu and the liquid cooling unit comes with pre applied paste. Nice video man👍 i have question please : I have removed the front fan to fit a bigger graphics card! I have stock liquid cooling by Alienware for the cpu. Now do you think my system will run into heating problem ? Do you think the front fan is necessary ? THANKS in advance.
I actually just did this.. I put the same fan I did for the front fan on the top and attached it to the liquid cooled radiator.. put it adds some light to the whole inside.. you can always use one of the multi colored ones instead of just the white ones.. just make sure they can do the 1700rpm
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I've ordered another ML120 for the top fan. 3 left feet your welcome, glad the video helped you and you got it installed.
@@StrayDog614 Me too, it was a pain to install, even without having to completely remove the motherboard. I have the aurora r9 chassis, looks great but a real pain to work with.
3 left feet so you have the new one.. yeah it looks cool.. I want the new 27inch monitor Alienware made. Just wish it was curved
what gpu did you have in this video?
Which you showed how to install the cpu cooling …
12:35 what program is?
thank you man.
how does the new fans sound when it goes on fortnite?
Do you have to install software
for the fan
Sick Bricks Brothers no, I did not need to install any software.. I was able to just plug and play the fan
I’ve never played fortnite so couldn’t tell you.. but will be playing some remnants from the ashes.. but so far doing video editing and my kid playing some games on it at the same time.. barely a sound
All fan has to be 1700 rpm.
i can’t take out the original fan
Is your Alienware still loud?
No, I barely hear it anymore.. in the most extreme circumstances I might hear the fan speed up but it’s just a minor noise and 75% quieter then it was
@@StrayDog614 what fan curve did you use
A small screw driver and a lot of pressure
Why di you make a new comment instead of replying
This is why you shouldn't by pre builds ;)
