You've got a great set of doors. Closing out the light is all thats needed, high strength doesn't do anything to make those doors do the job they're intended for any better. 👍🏻
They turned out great. If you want to smooth out the surface to get rid of the fiberglass texture you could try a fairing compound on the doors. Works great for most underwater Fiberglass repairs. You will have to repaint the doors after you sand the fairing compound flat.
Cracking job Ann-Elin and thank-you for the detailed video so we can all follow along! I love to see a new way of doing things and it'll be interesting to see how it fairs over the season.
Ann those look great and mighty tough too! AND you know what kinda tools too... nope NOTHING beats Makita some of mine are 50 years old and you know what? Still going strong. I woulda never thought of using styrofoam but it worked! Good work, Ann...
I will definitely invest in some better tools eventually, and I’ve heard great things about makita so maybe that’s what I will go for! 👌 Thank you for watching the video! Btw I’m based in southern Norway ☺️
Thank you! I know, I wasn’t sure if it was gonna work. Apparently polyester resin melts it but epoxy resin is ok. I tried to put superglue on there and it melted it right away.🙈
I don't know if it's possible, or if security from thieves is even a goal, let alone attainable, but instead of having the hinges exposed, could they be positioned so that they're between the edge of the door and the edge of the companionway so thieves cannot access the screws when doors are closed? Cuz if they can get at the screws they can just remove the hinges and get in. If they're intent on it, they'll get in anyway, so maybe it's all academic.😅
Im not too worried about thieves around here 😅 if i ever sail it out of Skagerrak i will change that door! .. and the rigging… and get a new engine… and probably just buy a new boat 😅
I didnt really have a problem with it it was just something i wanted to try to see if it was possible. I will still keep the other ones around for sure!
Ann, Sam... hey I just read about an elderly couple sailing the North Atlantic atta Nova Scotia to the Azores. They never made it. Found deceased on their inflated life raft on an island a few days after leaving port. They probably died from dehydration is my guess. They stupidly removed their diesel engine and installed an electric one... powered by lithium batteries. I think they lost that boat via a lithium battery fire (the boat was never found). NOTHING is worse than a fire onboard in the middle of a big ocean! So please, PLEASE NEVER replace lead-acid with lithium! Once those fires start they create their own O2 and you can NOT extinguish them!
Commenters here gotta realize that this is her first boat which I believe is 24 feet. And its probably NOT gonna be her last boat. I think she's in Sardinia somewhere too where its pretty safe. This ain't the states whereby you gotta have a massive padlock on everything. So how about cutting her a bit of slack here...
Good idea, but how did you lock the boat? and with the hinges screwed on that way couldn't someone just unscrew the door? But I suppose they could just kick it in also. At first I thought this was crazy but then i realised thats how they make surfboards so , well done
Haha that’s true, in case of breaking and entering it won’t stand a chance 😂 but this boat is just going to little islands and stuff in the backyard here, and the marina it sits in is very safe so no reason to worry about that really!
The clasic drop down wooden door is like that for lasting if wave should hit in to cockpit. Do you think your ligh-versions should do that, agains a small, lets say only 500 litres=kilos of moving power?
@@annelinsynnes Yes. But now you can imagine why the original was what it was. We can always note, mainly motor boats, relying on car-like black rubber seals on windows. Many times those windows would not widstand even one litre milk can throwed in wihtout just flipping in the boat. You can feel it when jus pushing with you thumb a bit. They are just for a rain...
I'm glad you and Sam Holmes found each other. Thanks for the adventures. 😊❤

Thanks for the tip! I might actually try that! :)
Nice. I love that you didn’t want the locals to see you working on the doors, but then you posted this video online.
Hahaha this comment made me laugh out loud 😂👌
Very clever way to to get inexpensive doors. Good Job!!
Thank you! They turned out to be more expensive than planned 💀 but its more about the experience and learning for me!
Very good work for the first time.
Thank you! 😄 it was fun! (Except for sanding and getting glass all over the place)
Cracking job Ann-Elin and thank-you for the detailed video so we can all follow along!

Well done.
Good video thanks 🎉🎉

+10 on skill level and accomplishment for doing all this without chipping a perfect manicure 🙂
💅
Good video 🎉🎉🎉
Very creative
Great job, very innovative using the styrofoam core. Strip of foam would seal that gap between the doors.
Looks nice, A-E! Maybe after you finish your other projects, you can get a surfboard blank and sand and glass yourself a nice surfboard. 😎
Oh heck yeah! That would be such a fun project! 🤙🏄♀️
Wow! Awesome job! You guys are so smart! 😉
Doors look great! ✅
Thank you!
good job and my wife noticed…”and she didn’t break a nail” lol …🙋🏼♂️🙋♀️👍🇨🇦
Such a fun project... great work
It was really fun! And now I know how to glass things 😄 which was my goal more than anything really
Looks pretty good . Good idea and great job!
👍👍👍
Good job!
Thanks Ann remind Sam that likes and comments help the algorithm lol great job.
Would some kind of paint thinner help level out the brush strokes?
Nice doors! I thought the styrofoam might dissolve with the resin - but it didn’t!
Thank you! I know, I wasn’t sure if it was gonna work. Apparently polyester resin melts it but epoxy resin is ok. I tried to put superglue on there and it melted it right away.🙈
@@annelinsynnes Polyester should be ok seems they have been doing it on surfboards for decades.
"Is that going to work?" yes, thumbs up, it's gonna work
It kind of did 😄🤷♀️
Bra jobbat!
Om färgen torkar för snabbt, blanda i lite mindre härdare.
Aha! Takk for tips! Skal teste det neste gang :)

I don't believe she's very concerned about theft. Not everywhere is like it is here in the states.
Good work ! Just curious - Didn’t you like the idea of a “one piece” slide in like it probably was originally ?
I didnt really have a problem with it it was just something i wanted to try to see if it was possible. I will still keep the other ones around for sure!

I don’t think that will ever be an issue for this boat 😂 but i would not cross the Atlantic with it, no!

lol type a personality has a literal checklist xD
Whats wrong with checklists? 😅
Snyggt!
Sponsored by Biltema... 😉
Haha de burde sponset meg ja! 😂
Yea epoxy don't stick to that type of foam very well
Du kan tette mellomrommet i døra med en tetningslist
lol why not use wood?
BOAT= Bring Out Another Thousand $. There's always a job that wants doing and money to be spent.
This is so true! I ended up spending way more than I thought 😂 but it’s all about the experience and the learning of the things! ☺️
how is that a cheap door ...18mm marine ply would be cheaper and am i right in thinking a burglar just needs a flat screwdriver. nice to see you again
That's nothing for bad weather an storm...
It will hold up a storm but not big waves! But I would not take that boat out in any storm so that’s not an issue 😂
