I enjoy knowing I have this shot in my bag. Just know when to take your medicine and it will always save you at least one stroke. Instead of it costing you 2 or 3 strokes from trying to pull off a miracle

Wise words my guy, sometimes I'm just too damn stubborn to follow them and I end up costing myself 2 or 3 strokes

Go to the range and try to hit 10 straight 4-irons right on the 100 yard mark. BUT only letting it get 10 ft off the ground. Keep the back of your lead hand towards the target longer in the follow thru and it will come out screaming low like Cordie's shot. Most of us use too much wrist and it makes the ball spin and climb... right into the branches. Great tactical points though, get out of jail THEN be a hero from the fairway.

Definitely recommend going to the range or dropping a few balls when out on the course and seeing what iron is best for you and get some good practice of this shot.

If my lowest iron is a 5, then have a 21 degree hybrid, which should I use for punch shot?

Test it out! Drop 4-5 balls and see which club you get better results with.

What loft is your 4 iron. I have Ping G-15 & my 4 iron is 23 degrees. I like to grip down my 4 wood which is 16 degrees.

When I analyze my blow-up holes, there are usually 1 or more "recovery shots" that don't provide any recovery. Instead of playing for recovery, these failures were really an attempt to "get it all back" ( to not suffer any penalty for being out of position ) and not really taking it to heart that you are setting up for the NEXT shot that is NOT in trouble.

Why do I constantly pull these?

Warning don’t get good at these shots, you’ll think you can escape from anywhere and end up making double!
