I have my adblocker off when using youtube many people have great content and they deserve to get money for what they do. Some are just doing anything they can to make money and I think it's bad cause they lose creativity.
Some do fall into that trap.
Those people never last anyway and their revenue declines after a short period. The youtube partners that put up great consistently good videos, keeping it fresh and exciting, get stronger and stronger. The most you focus on great content, the more views you get and in turn CTR= revenue

I hate ads but I deal with it so my favorites can always continue to get paid and make the videos that I watch after a hard days work. It's a really small price to pay for the hours I get out of them and quite frankly, I'm happy for Macdonalds to lose money wasting their ads on me, someone who doesn't take them in at all. If anything, removing adblock tests your skill as an intelligent person and how susceptible you are to advertising.

The main lesson you need to learn from this video is that the average youtuber makes less money then the minimumwage of your country.
If your motivation to start a youtube channel is for the money, you better stop now and use more effective ways to obtain it.
Only the famous people are able to obtain a lot of money out of it and just like in real life the chance you will be such a famous person is small, even far smaller on youtube.
Actually, I think more people have a better chance of being more famous on TH-cam and they do on any other platform. Sure, until you are famous you hardly make any money. But that's just as true in Hollywood.

Yeah, we do get money off of old videos, as well. But say, you had a video which made 10 million views 2 years ago, and you DIDN'T monetize it when the video had reached that many views, and you only monetized it, say today. And the average number of views per day on that video is about 2500, then you'd be making 0.13$ off of that video per day, and the ten million views made before the monetization would not be counted. But you also have factors of Ad Block users, as well as phone users, which reduce it to a quarter of that.

my channel has a total of 1.1 million views. and i actually never realized that we were never allowed to say how much we make, what the hell? lets just say im scratching it by on youtube, the payment threshold for adsense is $100 so if you dont make a minimum of $100 in a month then you have to wait till the next month for the next payment date (24-26th of every month) to get paid.

Well for me according to TH-cam once I reach $100 I get paid. So if I can get around 200,000-300,000 views I get about $100 and get paid. So depending on how fast one can get views that equal at least $100 is how fast they get paid. I believe it's on a monthly base. So if you've made a $100 or more you get paid once a month.

Not directly. But likes make videos show up higher in the search algorithms and therefore get more views. And making comments makes people feel more engaged with the media. Engagement is the secret sauce of all of TH-cam. If you're engaged, you're going to keep coming back and looking for more videos. You value me if you feel like I value you. Also when someone answers your comment, or you think they might answer your comment you're going to check back. And even if you're a troll, that's another view. Gotcha! Thanks for taking an interest. +ProfessorPuppet but that is what is considered passive income which means you keep making money while you sleep or while pooping, etc. I'd gladly make minimum age if it means not needing to life a finger past the initial content release date. But in actuality, to stay relevant, TH-camrs do need to keep producing content otherwise the money will eventually taper off or even stop rolling in altogether.
It's only passive income for your preceding videos, which clearly will go down in view rate as they become less relevant. You still have to actively make new videos as a TH-camr to make steady income.

So how do the youtubers GET the money??
Google Adsense will pay the TH-camr once per month, in a minimum payment of $100. The TH-camr gets to choose how the payment is made, from a few options. If a TH-camr makes less than $100 in a month, the amount will rollover to the next month, it is not wasted. As in, if a TH-camr makes $50 one month, and $50 the next month, they then get $100, instead of it resetting every month and they get nothing.
Yes of course :) If you make $20 per month for 5 months, you'll get $100.
So they don't always earn as much as you think. However as you build a video portfolio the views for your older videos will keep coming I'd imagine. So more videos the better.
+Andy Smith It's more then you think. Using his formula, the average channel gets about 1,000$ a month, and the bigger channels get about 10k$ a month and the biggest ones are in the 100k$ plus range, some of the biggest channels out there are probably in the million dollar a month range.

If the other viewers are anything like me, nobody makes a dime from advertising. I N*E*V*E*R click on A*N*Y fkn ad. In fact, if they really get in my way, I'll just download the fkn video and then watch it straight off my local drive. And if I have no choice in the matter (in other words, the ad gets rammed down my throat - which sometimes happens on my mobile device), I'll just look away and hum for 30 seconds or do some stretching for 30 seconds.

Click the Skip button on that pre-roll ad, and the TH-camr doesn't make as much as if you went and used the restroom while the ad ran.
