there's a lot more to it than that. there are real stories of channels with nearly 1 million subs nearly going broke. youtube takes 45%, there's NO escaping that. You make videos? You pay. Partnerships help grow you sub base a lot but again, that could be another 10-30% of whatever is left after youtube. Then you have taxes..What's left? Gas money and coffee money for a lot of people. But it's fun to make movies, I have several channels and love every minute of it.

You have to be able to monetize your content. This means that if you're doing a cover, you're gonna likely need a mechanical license for the song as well as a sync license to add that audio to a visual medium. Check out TH-cam for mechanical licenses and the Harry Fox agency for sync licenses. There's also a way to protect your own original works, but that depends on how serious you are...also, this relevant and factual information is in protest to the scammers here on youtube. A double fuck you to them.

Nice stuff! So many people are scared or secretive when it comes to this topic, it's personal so I get it. But nice of you to not only go in-depth, but also share your personal side of it. I'm not oblivious to all of this, but it does highlight that some of the bigger channels are lying a bit, when they claim that youtube isn't as lucrative as we the subscribers may think. Because they do double and some cases even triple/ quadruple what you do. But as you rightfully say taxes do come into play.
questionnnn Yeah I think it's just like any profession, you have a wide range on incomes with the "top" being very lucrative but only a small percentage of the whole.
