It won't be for everybody, but getting involved in a good church in your community. Lots of new friends, prayer support and a good church offers many activities, and is open often.
Changing who you hang out with in the beginning is so important. I only hung with people who didn't drink around me at all. Everything turned into going on an adventure or getting cozy. Lots of good food was cooked, hot tea and cocoa (and WATER) was drank, and many movies were watched (video games played haha). There were many trails blazed, shells collected and lots of intimate memories made with the few who wanted to adapt with me. I had friends who still invited me out to drink. i still see them, but far less frequently. and when i do, it's in a blended crowd where i don't feel pressure to drink. Doing all this was pivotal for me. It took so much pressure off of getting well again. But I agree with ALL of this. Reading is sooo good for relaxing you. It literally transports you into a new world. Both fiction and non- fiction. I love everything from Stephen King, to memoirs and historical accounts. You really get transported. When I'm anxious, it tears me out of my thoughts. And anxiety still rents space in my life, but i feel like it's so much more manageable. Getting into nature is just so healing as well, and I started cartooning again. All these things and family made such a difference for me. Also, I think I've said this before, but it's crazy how much my palette changed!! I can't go a day without fresh veggies and fruit. I had no desire for any of that while I was drinking heavily. I feel like I lived off of hangover food. I still have dessert daily. Usually like a serving of cookies or something. But I cut out refined sugar everywhere else. But it was a slow, slow process. when I first quit drinking, I ate 3 eggs and bacon almost every morning. 😅 I had coffee and creamer (light & sweet) every morning. I ate plenty of much healthier, well rounded meals, but also a burger or pizza when i felt like it. Which at first was often. but slowly over time I started peeling things away. First I ate less bacon. Then less creamer. Then I started eating egg whites. Then i replaced breakfast meats with veggies in my scramble. Chips at lunch turned into fruit. Began really throwing down on super vitamin dense vegetables. and i think it perpetuated itself bc i started feeling better and better. its like my body started speaking to me again and i began craving healthier food. Lol getting sober made me want every part of health, and my cholesterol was elevated in the beginning. But it looks like things are improving. Energy level is 400% better. Everything here sounds so cliche, but it has all really changed my life! I'm 37, and feel better than I did at 27. Apologies for rambling. But i feel the need to share how everything you're suggesting worked for me. As always, you're nailing it, friend. Have a great night. And god bless you! ❤️🙏😁
I totally agree with getting outside. I have found that walking with or throwing a ball for my dogs is a good distraction. It’s positive for both me and them.
If I do that in MA the wet grass clogs up my mower. I can hardly even mow if there’s dew I gotta feel it make sure it’s dry. Granted I got my lawnmower when I was 7 years old in 1997 lol
You are 100%. I know for m e I can't even have 1. Because it leads to 10. And that has put me here. I go on the 30th for my fibroscan and v seal. Thank God for you 2. You both keep me grounded
Hey crystal! Please let me know what they say when you get your results. I am praying for you! I'm the same way... 1 leads to 100!!! Thank you! God bless😊😊❤❤❤
Finding a hobby definitely helps! I play a few musical instruments and it works wonders for me. Now that I'm sober, I can focus more of my energy on that activity! It really does make you feel so much better!
@davidlafond8327 that's so cool brother! I played the piano growing up, played some guitar, but was never good at it. Would love to hear some of your music one day!
Hey LD, hope you had a great day. Keeping busy is so important. Finding a hobby, cooking delicious food, and even cleaning. I know cleaning is not the most fun but I love a clean house 😃. When the house smells fresh it puts my mind at ease. I’m working on getting healthier, avoid salt and processed sugars. I have good and bad days. Like with everything practice makes perfect. Take it easy LD.
It’s good to keep hearing things over and over. I’m not good at remembering things from a while back so when I hear them several times, they really stay in my memory better. Stay busy and keep well my friend 💚
Reading the Bible everyday and having a devotional and prayer time can completely change your life around, I know it did mine and I"m on my 5th time of reading the Bible all the way through. It will change your whole perspective on life even if you are already a Christian.
I find vacuuming when in the mood a good thing.. idk the back and forth of it all helps at times. Also getting outside helps me feel closer to Jesus.. I find Him in nature
'Bad association spoils useful habits" (1 Cor 13?)...your wise advice LD has the wisdom of God behind it!! (Moderation, awareness, proper caution). Thanks buddy!!
Great tips in general. Staying busy is super important! Glad to see you're still doing well! My tips - I didn't want to go to AA, but every attempt alone just didn't work. It was the best decision I've ever made. Don't be affraid of what you may think it's about. You can meet some great people there. I would also suggest going keto. Really kills the sugar / alcohol physical craving for me. Sugar destroys the liver! If you can tolerate organ meats, eat those instead of taking vitamin supplements. Natural vitamins instead of lab made.
All very good tips LD! Unfortunately I had a slip last night. Not a full blown relapse, but just enough to remind me why I quit. I am disappointed in myself. But I do plan on getting back on track and staying there! I had almost a year!! I could use some prayers!
We (this group) are HERE for support!! We really are!! LD is our "fearless leader" and more than that a FRIEND you can confident in! Stay firmly resolved...we're better than AA so stay tuned. We're behind YOU!!!
@CraigFox-lt6lt Thank you!! I know I slipped but I have absolutely zero desire to keep using! This was a wakeup call for me. I have been under a huge amount of stress (not making excuses, just trying to figure out why it happened because I really was doing good). Anyways yeah I can use all the support I can get!Thank you!
Hey brother! I just said a prayer for you. Please watch today's video. It's definitely one for you to watch today. Hang In there man. It happens. Don't think of it as I have to start all over, you already have a year. It's just a little bump in the road.... you have come a really long way man. God bless😊
These are exactly the things to do in order to change! I was disgusted when 'friends' tried to talk me into drinking even though I told them I had a liver problem--unrelated to alcohol but alcohol is a bad thing for livers! Drink coffee, and eat dandelions in the spring. Milk thistle is supposed to help, too.
Vitamin B12 is the main one alcoholics are low on. There is also a synthetic version of Vitamin B1 called Sulbutiamine which was incredibly helpful for me. It’s a nootropic so it helps boost your cognitive function.
Hi LD, Have you ever watched videos from Dr. Hyman? He talks about the importance of eating healthy food. My hobby now is cooking healthy food and I feel great.
Good morning, thank you for another good video. can you please tell me the name again of the vitamins and where you got it from? Thank you. Have a good day. God bless you and your family.
Hello!!! They are the nature made, diabetes pack. We get them from Sam's club. We have to order them because they don't carry them in the store. Hope this helps! God bless😊😊😊❤❤❤
LD when you was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, what stage did they say, I believe they grade it stage 1 - stage 4? Hope you, The wife and kids all doing well. Steve LONDON UK
