I’m definitely not considering to start a fashion illustration career, but was plain curious about Adobe illustrator (I now have the cut down version for the iPad). I have used various graphic programs before: Paint Shop Pro (pc) and Procreate (iPad) and a little bit of Adobe Photoshop (pc) and to me they are all basically the same (eg working with layers, creating vectors, pen, pencil and eraser tools, colour manipulation) except of course the tools are located in different places and each program/app has their own set of special features. So after watching this video I decided to try out Illustrator and with my previous experience of other similar software I have figured my way around most the tools in minutes and it is very intuitive and easy. Therefore I question why you specifically need previous experience in Illustrator to get such a job?
I don't have any experience with Paint Shop but Procreate and Photoshop are raster format software programs. Illustrator is vector. You need to learn to do vector drawings in illustrator.
Zoe I’m wondering what is the general rule for fabric and drape like I want to do a long pleated winter skirt in a heavy fabric and everything for longer skirts recommend gathering the skirt so is there a general rule because I love breaking rules but I respect experience too🤓 like what can you do to make heavy fabrics replace lightweight maybe?
Hey I love all your video and follow every lil thing you tell in the video. I'm a Knitwear student but have this huge passion towards fashion design, could you please tell how to become one as I'm already in the field of design and also heard both these things are kinda similar. What parameters should I work on to be a fashion designer without like taking it as a course?
Hey Zoe, love ur vids. Question. I'm looking for a dress form but unsure what size I would typically need or what would be beneficial for draping . Any suggestions I'm starting. Thx!
The dress form size should be your sample size. Sample sizes should always be the middle size of your size range. If you want to make clothes for yourself, find the one with the measurements closest to you. If you want to make straight size clothes, something that's like a size 6/8. If you want to do plus, something like a 18 or so. Check measurements and not just the number on the dress form.
ok. Glancing over my circa 20 ys of buying art supplies, I think I have everything but the curved rulers, metal pins, the mini scissor and the XXXL bunny rabbit... XD
I am so thankful U really helped me I liked your website, online website, but the problem is that I am indian and I live in india,so I can't take any stuff from your American website ,so is there any recommendation of website from which I can buy supplies that i need for the same
Hey! Thanks for the insight Zoe, your videos are always really helpful. I usually sketch and draw illustrations on an Ipad Pro, and that works really well for me. Do you think that would be acceptable to use as a primary tool in US fashion schools? I'm planning to attend Santa Monica College next year.
Hi I am 14 years old and I am interested in Fashion Designing my Dad is very supportive and I can draw but I do lack in some places I can't do sewing which I will learn soon . I don't have much designs it's either my designs have already done by many people or I just don't have any designs so I hope you can help me with that
i am not a professional but i have sewn and am planning to go to design school next year. my advice for you on the sewing front is just to practice a lot. youtube will be your best friend when it comes to learning sewing techniques so watching a lot of tutorials will help as well. for the design part, what helps me is to collect a bunch of images of designs and clothes that i like (i use pinterest), look at the parts that interest me the most, and combine them to create something new. also, don’t worry too much about having a similar design to someone else. just try to put your own unique spin on it.
Hi Zoe Hong, I’m really loving your wonderful videos. You’re very funny and witty, while sharing lots of your knowledge generously. I love that you’re in search of the best white gel pen. Do you have a video of your reviews so far?
Hi, I wanted to ask what your opinion is on summer courses in fashion. I am studying economics rn (1st year) but I would love to do some summer courses (not the most expensive ones ofc), to prepare for a potential career in the fashion industry in the future. What would u recommend. From your perspective, what do you think of my idea? Love ur channel
You mark the grain on muslin when draping, because it's important to observe and use the correct grain when draping new designs. You don't need to mark the grain on final fabrics, you mark them on the patterns and make sure you cut the pieces on the grain properly.

Wow 👍👍👍👍👍
Just watch all her videos.
Can you do a turtorial on how to draw clothes on the figures.
See my Drawing Clothes on Bodies playlist.
Thanke you
You're welcome
Hey Zoe, love ur vids. Question. I'm looking for a dress form but unsure what size I would typically need or what would be beneficial for draping . Any suggestions I'm starting. Thx!
The dress form size should be your sample size. Sample sizes should always be the middle size of your size range. If you want to make clothes for yourself, find the one with the measurements closest to you. If you want to make straight size clothes, something that's like a size 6/8. If you want to do plus, something like a 18 or so. Check measurements and not just the number on the dress form.
@@zoehongteaches amazing thx. I was looking at some in size 6 and 8. I'm assuming to be able to put the pin fully in foam form would be beneficial?
Ima make a wish cause my comment is 111
ok. Glancing over my circa 20 ys of buying art supplies, I think I have everything but the curved rulers, metal pins, the mini scissor and the XXXL bunny rabbit... XD

Me: "How did she know.... ".
Talking DIRECTLY to me. :D
I just use a number 2 pencil, a 03 & 02 micron pen, and an entire set of Crayola washable markers 🤷♂️
I have watched many videos and i am thinking how one wana become. A fashion designer and didn't following her and learn new things from her
Every school is different. Ask your school.
Hi Zoe Hong,
I’m really loving your wonderful videos. You’re very funny and witty, while sharing lots of your knowledge generously.
I love that you’re in search of the best white gel pen. Do you have a video of your reviews so far?
Love yr vdo bleive
Hi, I wanted to ask what your opinion is on summer courses in fashion. I am studying economics rn (1st year) but I would love to do some summer courses (not the most expensive ones ofc), to prepare for a potential career in the fashion industry in the future. What would u recommend. From your perspective, what do you think of my idea? Love ur channel
Excuse me for the dumb question, rookie here. But why do we need to mark the grain of a fabric? How does using the correct grain make a difference?
You mark the grain on muslin when draping, because it's important to observe and use the correct grain when draping new designs. You don't need to mark the grain on final fabrics, you mark them on the patterns and make sure you cut the pieces on the grain properly.
@@zoehongteaches thanks! :)
