( i never try to draw fashion design , i try but I’m not good :( should i go first with the drawing books or the fashion and fiber books as a beginner!? )

Awesome! I'm definitely starting with Zero Waste Fashion Design and Professional Sewing Techniques for Designers. I never want my products to look "homemade". I was lucky enough to learn my sewing techniques from my friend who worked in the industry for a long time and free lanced for the pageant world. Hopefully I don't have "home sewing" habits to unlearn. Thank you so much!

Zoe Hong Do you have a recommendation on a book or resource for overall terminology? I am not a fashion designer. I need something more for finding correct terminology when writing descriptions of garments like for marketing and copywriting purposes. I was told to try a book called Fashionpedia but haven’t had a chance to order yet.

I would recommend survey of historic costume by Phyllis G. Tortora, it does a great job going through a bunch of eras, also something I like is Fashioning Fashion by Takeda Sharon Sadako, it doesn't have very much written information in it, but is beautiful to look at, basically it's a book of pretty pictures.

Hey Zoe - do you think fashion is headed toward more military utilitarian garb after the Pandemic? As for myself, I want basic wear, nothing fancy as I continue to downsize and focus on health, brainpower and the arts in a world that has changed where resources are undergoing a tremendous shift.

Thank you for your interesting, valuable videos. I've been sewing for years, love altering stuff for myself. I'm retired now so i can play with fabric and designs as much as i want! I have had to adjust to not being a size 2 anymore, and i have to check myself a little with my tendency to wild colors. Bohemia is my natural environment. Yes, i make my curtains and pocketbooks and rugs too!😁

Not exactly what I was looking for, I guess these books are specific to the fashion industry. I’m trying to find books on clothing and materials people wear based on the environment, era, location, etc for character designing. The rendering material and color theory books looked interesting though.

Loved this video! I am really a self-taught person and I like to learn by myself so books are great for that. Also, do you have any book recommandation for advanced? Like how to get deeper into making clothes and advanced pattern making.
Instead of looking for "advanced" books, I would pick a specialty you want to focus on for a while and look for books on that topic.

The only books you would need separate are patternmaking books, and draping if you're interested in draping, but I don't have recs for those.

My wife gave me her copy of 9 heads by Nancy Riegelman from her own school days. Even though I’m not doing fashion design, more comic, manga and sifi drawing I find it a wonderful reference for faces, figures and drawing clothes. I have the Human figure and color theory book. Both great resources. Thanks for the tips. Keep doing what your doing your so helpful.

Hi Zoe, hey so I have a dilemma. Im a fashion designer its what I love to do but because of life, I’ve been forced to do business. I’m starting my journey as a designer but in all truth I feel blocked off from my creativity and from my life’s path. I’m not sure where to start or how to even start. I’m placing a lot of pressure on myself trying to find the right thing to do and I’m trying to figure it out but I need some advice. @@zoehongteaches If only more people had this attitude. From time to time, I run into people who insist that they know it all and therefore there is nothing out there to expand their knowledge. One look at their sewing says otherwise and is rather cringe worthy.

What sewing machine would you recommend to get started? Any features that you recommend looking for?
You don't need a lot of fancy features, lot of stitch variations. Pick something simple and strong. The more complicated a machine is, the more scared/reluctant you will be to get started.
Haven't gone to fashion school, so I can't give that perspective on it. But i've read and owned all the books mentioned in the video (with the exception of the fashion illustration and vendor compliance) and they are great :) Highly recommended by me :D Just know they are some chunky boys you are getting :) and you may need more shelfing for books.
