This was before their divorces. It was released in 1976 and included in the album Arrival, which catapulted ABBA to super stardom. The album also included Dancing Queen and Money Money Money. Agnetha and Björn divorced in 1979, while Anni Frid and Benny divorced in 1981. They only released one album after the latter divorce, The Visitors, which has more experimental, futuristic and dark songs than most ABBA albums. The title track which does not have any official video is a great example of that. It's a freaking masterpiece. When All Is Said And Done from the same album is a great and heartbreaking song too - about divorce.
DAMN! That album was packed with amazing songs, ESPECIALLY if it had Dancing Queen and Money Money Money on it! Thanks for filling me in on when they divorced, so it was a couple years after this song. What do you think made them discuss the topic of divorce though in their song?...
"Walking through an empty house, tears in my eyes'. So sad, so simply genius! Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA wrote this song at a time when the relationships within the group were strained, and his lyric reflects that. He was married to ABBA singer Agnetha Fältskog; his bandmates Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad were also married. Agnetha and Anni-Frid handle the lead vocals, singing about walking though an empty house in the aftermath of a split. Both couples ended up getting divorced a few years later, with Bjorn and Agnetha parting ways in 1980, and Benny and Anni-Frid calling it quits a few years later. Said Ulvaeus: "I think I wrote 'Knowing Me Knowing You' before the divorce. In many ways, Agnetha and my divorce was an amicable one, we just grew apart and decided let's split up. Benny and Frida's was a little more difficult. It was not a happy time but still very creative." "Knowing Me, Knowing You" has that signature ABBA pop sound with an undeniable chorus, but it tackles some serious subject matter (divorce), which they didn't do very often to this point. The song was released as a single from their fourth album, Arrival, and went to #1 in the UK and a few other territories, including Ireland and Mexico. The global smash from the album was "Dancing Queen," their only American #1. After Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog separated, Bjorn wrote another divorce song, "The Winner Takes It All," which became a big hit for the group in 1980. That song isn't entirely about their split, but it was still a little awkward for Agnetha, who had to sing a divorce song written by her ex-husband.
Yeah I reacted to The Winner Takes It All on the channel, and I felt like it would be so hard to sing a song that my ex partner wrote about our breakup. She's a champ for singing it! Thanks for filling me in on a bit of their history!!

@@DanCanReact Anni-Frid was actually married once before she met Benny. She got married at 18 and her and her first husband had 2 kids before they divorced and she got together with Benny. I’m not sure if that’s the reason they waited so long to get married but I can imagine she wouldn’t have wanted to immediately get married again after a divorce. Anni-Frid has actually had quite the tragic life in some ways. She was born in Norway and her mother passed away when she was quite small. She grew up with her grandmother in Sweden. Her father was a German soldier and believed to have died in WWII. They eventually found out he was still alive and had a meeting but nothing really came of it as Frida was already in her 30s and said it was quite difficult to suddenly get a father when you’re that age. After her divorce from Benny she eventually married Prince Heinrich Ruzzo Reuss of Plauen, a German prince (Frida still carries the honorary princess title). Sadly he died of cancer in 1999. And actually just a year before that Frida lost her daughter, who died in a car accident.
