This was the great live version at Wembley. You definitely should listen to the studio version (the long version has a beautiful bridge in the middle).❤
@@MichaelNadin-b8k Hi Michael, this song is brilliant. I really liked it. How lucky were you to have been there. I would have been over the moon to have seen them live 🤗
This is a big fave for many Abba fans.Wasn't excactly a widely released 7 inch.Mostly central Europe and US, but those versions were edited and in some cases got brutally chopped by record companies in order to be more 'radio friendly" regarding limits to long time duration which quite 'destroyed" its beautiful flow..Original version is nearly 6 minutes and perfectly produced. You listen and travel, you fly up and into the skies..Best video that represents perfectly the proper version is by "Weisskatzen channel"(Eagle long version) and video is Fantastic!
@christianoazzuro6711 Hi Christiano, always a pleasure to hear from you. Thanks for the backstory. It is a really wonderful song. It takes us on a journey for sure 😀💚
Was no.1 in Belgium, no.2 in South-Africa, no.6 here in Germany, where it stayed on the charts for 19 weeks. In most countries it was not released as a single. Btw, the titel is just "Eagle", without "The".🙂
@happyhawaii0711 Thanks for the info, Happy. I am glad it did well in those 3 countries. It deserved to hit the charts and thanks for the clarification on the title 🤩💗
An ABBA song which I think is extremely underrated and not often reacted to (probably because of the title) is "I am the City". Given what B and B pulled off with this I imagine that they could easily have done the telephone directory!
The beauty is that it is up to all of us to interpret it within our own understanding. Beautiful song -- I'm not trying to make any sense myself -- it's just a super beautiful harmony of voice and instruments. Always gets me up to listen to the extended version.
I was at that concert was fantastic, you should listen to the studio version, i couldnt find where to pist a comment on here ? So ive done it this way @playitagainsue
As you've said, Sue, ABBA can do no wrong ! ( Well almost no wrong .. there were 1 or 2 dodgy songs off their first few albums🙁) .. They could carry off so many styles and types of songs, and make them all work brilliantly .. This was, as you pointed out, a wonderful mix of rock with an ethereal, mystical feel .. When the chorus comes in, it is just so uplifting and blissful.
@@wayne_twentyfive You are so right, Wayne. When that chorus comes in, you do feel lifted just like an eagle...it was like going to church...very spiritual feeling 😍❤️
@@playitagainsue hi sue isn't a typical abba song but a rock song and that's probably why it wasn't successful and you said it yourself it wasn't released in the usa only a few countries and it's the longest song they've made
Actually It was never an officially international single but mainly a limited continental European release and did Ok for a 3rd single off an already no1 album. Our friend here @happyhawaii has more detailed chart infos in his comment.LP version is ultimate and majestic.Less rock more polished prog pop rock.An adventurous little masterpiece.
Definitely different for Abba Another fun fact which you wont be able to not notice once you hear it Human League said this inspired opening of Don’t You Want Me Baby List again and you will hear it
i dont know who plays guitar on this Probably Lasse Wellander , he was Abba’s guitar player on most if not all albums but not sure if part of touring group or on this track
That is a great question, Jason! I don't know but he was good. I am sure others can tell us who played the guitar. I will ask Jesse. He is an amazing source for musical info 😎💚
@@playitagainsue I looked it up, the guitar player was Janne Schaffer. I guess for the most part we don't think thing about the band that supports AbbA, we generally only thing for the 4 singers. That solo was incredible.
@@JeromeDukes There was another video of that live version where one could see them on stage and there it was Lasse Wellander who played the guitar. Sadly the video doesn't exist anymore. Janne Schaffer played in the studio version, Lasse on stage. This is confirmed in the book 'ABBA - All The songs - The Story Behind Every Track'.
@@Lisa-M So if I understand you correctly Janne is a session musician and the person who wrote the solo on the studio recording and Lasse is the guitar player that performs live for Abba. Cool thx for clarifying that, either way, that solo was killer.
If you are going to listen to a song for the first time, then you should listen to the original studio version, so you really capture the true essence of the song. This is not the best version.
What a nice version...!
(USA Tour video)
Great video👌. Thanks, Sue

The studio version is a fantastic sonic masterpiece. (long version!) You should hear that first. They can not replicate that live
Maybe Sue will decide to view this version too sooner or later.

One of my favourite ever moments is the two women sharing eggs in the diner. No playing the superstar role for ABBA. That's just not the Swedish way
