Lovely you choose this beautiful ABBA song and reflect on it. I bought The Visitors album when it was released, I was 19 years old. I liked it but the theme's were so deep and profound, that I couldn't get my head around them enough. Through the decades The Visitors had several comebacks with me. After more than 40 years Slipping Through My Fingers makes me even shed tears now, as I have experienced what letting go really means, time is without mercy.
@@DIDCOTTWISTThe songs of ABBA are timeless. They can sound fresh and new in any time period. That’s the magic of their songs. They will entertain every generation to come.
Bjorn said he wrote this song when he watched his daughter walk to her first day of school all by herself. He remembered how scared and yet how proud she was to be going alone. Every parent's worst fear, and yet biggest pride at the same time.
Me and my cousin had summed up our pocket money to buy our first Abba album while still being students in primary school."ABBA - The Album".First l times isten we thougfht,'meh!what's all that hype, nah: by late 1979 we had both been seriously and madly addicted.Eternally.
Beautiful moving song. An underrated gem from one of the best selling groups of all time. There is a live version of this from the ABBA meets Dick Cavett show in 1981.
That's always strange to me, how people buy singles, or only know their worst hits. I never saw a single, but bough all their LPs, despite not being a very strong fan back in the 1970s. At least they were good enough for that :)
Thx, it's good that Americans release big hits from the ABBA Gold compilation, including so many other tracks like this one that deserve to be shared, like "Hole in your soul", "when all is said and", "Our Last Summers", Under Attack",.......
Yes, its their best in musicality, consistency, lyrics, recording technology. In the Netherlands two singles from the album made it to number 1 in the charts, One Of Us and Head Over Heels.
What a great pleasure to see you return to ABBA songs And of ABBA songs most emotionals "Slipping through my fingers" (1981) is in my opinion the most testimonial and emitional ABBA song This lyrics are very deep, about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day the guitarist Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter and her mother Agnetha sings it with specialy feeling of mother Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn and Agnetha too But there are differences between the two stories: 1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha and Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents another difference with 2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia 3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha, that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings ABBA performed live in 1981 "Slipping through my fingers" These was the premiere in the TV special "Dick Cavett meets ABBA" th-cam.com/video/avPTdJh2j6s/w-d-xo.html and these is one of ABBA's songs recorded in spanish too: "Se me está escapando" (ABBA recorded a full album in spanish too in 1980, after the worldwide success of "Chiquitita" in 1979 at the Concert for UNICEF, specialy in Latin American countries) In short, it's a beautiful song by melody and interpreter lyrics, it touches the most intimate fibers of emotion and nostalgia, it's in my Top 20 of all ABBA songs I hope to see you soon with more ABBA songs My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina South America
this is one of their hits that doesn't get as much air time as the others.although i've heard it more since it was used in the film version of the worldwide successful stage musical mama mia. the particular scene is donna(meryl streep)helping her daughter sophie(amanda seyfield)get ready to get married.
Anyone can write music, it's just notes going up and down, yea right (like driving is just heading in the right direction) ABBA excelled at their art. writing, performing and production.
Don't Care for Abba too much but love your channel❤ I liked Dancing Queen. I would like to see you do a review on Bill McClintock channel!! His remixes of songs are insane!!
10,000 Maniacs "How You've Grown" about Natalie Merchant's experiences while concert touring and leaving her daughter home. I think ABBA fell short with this one. I've never even heard this until, today. And, I'm an ABBA fan. Lol

This was in 1982
@badlongon525 but still a long time ago

I am 52. Been an ABBA fan since 1978.

I wasn't familiar with this song, ABBA was always great band ❤

Love it, love it, Love ABBA♥️
I wish my kids were still little ❤
Hopefully, you will in the end have grandkids. They can help make up for that feeling of yours. Ask me how I know.
Nice to see u back with ABBA.
Please also do the LIVE version of SLIPPING THRU MY FINGERS from the Dick Cavett TV show, excellent performance !
Very underrated song.
This was an Abba track I was not familiar with. Nice one, Jamel. Have a great rest of your day.
This album is simply superb!

@bertitolino 2 of my favorites!
What a great pleasure to see you return to ABBA songs

"Slipping through my fingers" (1981)
is in my opinion the most testimonial and emitional ABBA song
This lyrics are very deep, about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day
the guitarist Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter and her mother Agnetha sings it with specialy feeling of mother
Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn and Agnetha too
But there are differences between the two stories:
1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha and Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents
another difference with
2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia
3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha, that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings
ABBA performed live in 1981 "Slipping through my fingers"
These was the premiere in the TV special "Dick Cavett meets ABBA"

Saludos desde Paraguay, tienes muy buenas reacciones!!!
Sigue así, bendiciones!!!
Let's jump right into it! 👏
It's so hard to let go. But it has to be done.
"they say time flies like an arrow, but I say fruit flys like a banana" Groucho Marx....

After the band broke up Agnetha Faltskog's life fell apart.......very sad 🙏🤍🏴

Hey, love your vibe! Would be superfun to se you react to Jussi Björling O holy night ( O helga natt) in swedish. Much Love
You know,I’ve never heard this song 🎶
Watch the movie Mamma Mia.
Please do Send The Pain Below by Chevelle 🙏🙏🙏
I love this album but there’s lots of melancholy to pretty much every track.
Can you please, do some Maniacs or Natalie Merchant solo stuff, soon? Thanks✌🏽
Oh my God why aren't you listening to Fernando by ABBA!?!???
Fernando? He should listen to every abba song! Best group ever
Why you wearing the headphones over the hoody? You realise it is dampening the sound coming from the headphones.
Don't Care for Abba too much but love your channel❤ I liked Dancing Queen. I would like to see you do a review on Bill McClintock channel!! His remixes of songs are insane!!
Love it when you sneak in a music reaction now and again. Still perplexed by the whole blocking thing. Seems awful rando.
