    I just bought one of these last month, and it really is such a great quality Bible. The 3 ribbons in it make it ideal for annual Bible reading plans, such as the popular "Bible in a Year" podcast with Fr Mike Schmitz.
    One thing to note for anyone interested in grabbing this or any other Bible from TAN Books, is that TAN Books does sales quite often, so if you add this to your favorites and check in on it each month, you won't have to wait long to see it go on sale. I got this Bible for $34.98 on sale last month, and if you wait until their Black Friday sale, you can probably do even better than that.

    Thank you, Tim. Looks like a lovely Bible, I'm going to put it on my wish list. And as always, I appreciate the way you review Catholic Bibles fairly despite your theological disagreements with us.

    I happened to find out about this a few days before it was released, and purchased it very soon after and really love this edition. I really like to use it aside my KJV comparing the two editions. God bless 🙏

    Nice i like it too the font size is 10pt (compared times roman) . . I'm gonna give ya a heads up though . . The gold print can rub off easily. They might have fixed that because i got mine early. Also The first page of 2 Timothy is enlarged (12pt)
    All the info is there, it's just larger.
    I like it it feels good in the hand.
    And the font size makes a difference for these old eyes 😄
    Great review 📖🙏

    Thank you, sir! This is the review that I have been waiting for you to do. You recommended the Baronius Press Bible to me before, but I haven't pulled the trigger on the purchase yet. Based upon this review I believe I will go ahead and order this one the next time it goes on sale. (Who am I kidding? I'll probably end up with this one and the one from Baronius eventually.)

    Thank you Tim. I'm going to put this on my list hopefully get this coming year. I've been hesitant to get other copies of Dousman Rheims as smaller print & I prefer red letters for the words of Christ.

    Almost thou persuadest me to purchase this text.
    I just already have the Baronius Vulgate-DR diglot as well as their printed edition. I have an edition of the Vulgate I want to get from Church Latin, and it looks exquisite.

    Very nice review, appreciate the detailed review of its specs particularly. A little off topic question but do you own a Dickson New Analytical Study Bible? I believe it’s no longer in print but as I recall it had excellent helps.

    Great review! It's a beautiful and high quality block and binding, to be sure, TAN having captured the early modern English Bible with Roman typeface look and feel in this one: they've knocked this one out of the park in my opinion, and if I were a Roman Catholic, it'd be the on the top of my list to get for my daily reader. As a King James Bible believer who keeps copies of all the major non-RT translatons on hand for reference, if I didn't already have a DR, I'd pick this one up because I'm sure that it'd last-but I do, so I don't see myself buying it. I'd like to hear from our Roman Catholic friends what they think about this edition.

    Hi Tim. I see how this Bible fits a niche when comparing to the sizes of the Baronius Press Bibles as you mention in the review. Something smaller than the Large Print and larger than the personal size Baronius editions. As far as layout, do you really think it's better than Baronius? Or how about the Loreto Press black hard cover edition (with the two large ribbons)? That one has a nice large font with a different footprint (from the Baronius editions) as well. It's nice that we have more choices to decide what matters most to us when picking one of these Douay Rheims Bibles.

    The reason latin mitres look the way they do is because of the translation about Moses' horns. A sideways mitre was used to depict old testament prophets.

    Hey Tim, could you tell me what the copyright/publication date of this volume is? The TAN website indicates March 2024. If that's the case for the volume you purchased as well (as in, you don't have an older edition than the one on the website) the Pope gaffe is pretty inexcusable. Francis has been Pope since 2013, and Pope Benedict died in 2022.

    Most Catholic Biblical scholars I know of think the “She shall crush…” verse was a typo. As good as Jerome was, even he can make errors.

    • @Nick-w9z
      @Nick-w9z 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is false. The pronoun used is gender neutral and either way the head of Satan is crushed by Christ, even if through Mary as this text states.

    After getting into premium bibles it’s pretty sad and shocking how few options Catholics have for premium bibles. I have the douay rheims from the publisher you mentioned in bonded leather and it’s okay but it’s still not very premium. You would think there would be many more options for Catholics.

  • @MrAzteckgamer

    The gold on the outside of the bible wears off pretty easily. Also there is a typo in the back of the bible in the index I believe

    I'm honestly kinda sad that Catholic Bibles stopped using the Latin Vulgate for translations. I can't imagine it would be impossible to produce a solid critical text of Jerome's vulgate and compare it with the Greek and Hebrew text.

    Trigger warning: Obviously I knew Roman Catholics hold Mary highly, too highly imo (I think she’d be embarrassed if she knew - “if” purposeful there as I do not think she intercedes). Anyway, my point is that I did not know they attribute Mary as the person that crushes the head of the serpent. That would dramatically challenge many people’s understanding of that prophecy.

    • @j.woodbury412
      @j.woodbury412 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I have a problem with that. Mary did not defeat Satan. Jesus defeated Satan when he was crucified and rose again three days later. I've never seen any pictures of Mary hanging on a cross.

    • @MakeTodayAmazing
      @MakeTodayAmazing 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      It’s a quirk of the Latin vulgate for complicated historical reasons. All other Catholic translations translate from the Hebrew correctly with he/it/they referring to the offspring of the woman.

    • @missinglink_eth
      @missinglink_eth 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@MakeTodayAmazing that’s good to know. And probably why I’ve never heard of it. I don’t study the vulgate or its history often. Thanks!

      @@MakeTodayAmazingIt's also been theorized that the identification of the fruit of the tree of good evil with an apple, has its roots with the Vulgate, as the Latin for apple and evil are very similar to each other.

      I really like Bishop Challoner's note on the variant difference:
      "The sense is the same: for it is by her seed, Jesus Christ, that the woman crushes the serpent’s head.”

  • @Yesica1993
    @Yesica1993 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    0:28
    "Instead of he shall crush the serpent's head it says she shall crush his head instead of he. And it seems to be referencing Mary instead of Christ because the Catholics hold a very high view of Mary."
    YIKES! This and the other theological issues mentioned are not minor things. Such a book is important to preserve for history's sake and academic work. But as a "Bible" people must be warned away. Catholicism is not just another "denomination." It has an entirely different gospel.
