Great advice, I had to change barbers about 5 months ago because they kept shaving my sideburns too low and taking precious beard with it! Tried to be specific but they just had their own way of doing it. My barber now does exactly what I want (not touching the beard) makes such a difference.
great advices ... too bad there is no long beard barbers in my town... have to do it to myself or become one ... very wise videos... only a bearded man knows other bearded man!! thanks man, and keep doing it...
cheers for the vid baron, been growing mine out for bout 12 weeks now, heading for a haircut on friday, and definitely going to be more specific about how i want my beard lines defining! keep the vids coming :)
Excellent advice Baron!! I will review this one again before I go to my barber in December for my first trim. I don't trust myself to do it yet as I have messed it up in my past attempts (lot of trouble establishing the neck line--always went too high). Greatly appreciate your wisdom here!
I´ve been growing my beard for about 3 months , and I love it . I´m more confident and it feels so good ! thank you for your tips! It´s looking awesome ! You are the boss! Best wishes from Argentina!
I got lucky in the fact that my barber is also a beardsman, with an epic 'stache. He's really good with talking me out of dumb decisions, and helping me stay on the right track. And I tip him well!
I just went to a barber after having a beard growing for about a year and the result is amazing! Thanks to your videos about sides, bottom, mustache etc. this video really culminated the idea to "Be Specific" into my head and I thought all the aspects through. I went to my new barber 1) with a good picture 2) with some main requirements; and she understood what I wanted perfectly. Next time will surely book the same barber and maybe I will be also "golden" with the relationship soon :D
1:17 its too late for me....yesterday i went to the barber after a nearly 4 month beard, and told just a little trim and a bit pointed shape...he took 3cm from the sides of my beard and left 4 cm in the middle....this may be the last time i go to a barber...most barbers dont know who to trim a beard.i was thinking to shave but didnt...i am going to do it myself from now on...wish i seen this before
Hi Beard Baron. Of you you had made this a couple of weeks earlier! I went to the barber and gave him permission to do what he want. He went made with thinning scissors and made my beard look straggly, leaving a protruding tuft on my chin. I had to trim back about a months growth to get it back in shape, which at the 4 month stage is heartbreaking. But here we go again, this time going for the addition of an epic moustache!
The Beard Baron Excuse me o wise one, I was wondering if you could tell me what the absolute latest a beard will stop THICKENING up, my neck, tash and chin are full on bad boy level thick, however, my sides and cheeks are nowhere near as thick, not too shabby, but not on chin/tash/necks level. I am 24 only 30 day's into being 24. Thanks.
After my haircut the barber asked, if want him to take care of my beard and your words instantly echoed in my head like an advice from a long lost grandfather. "I have heard a lot of stories from guys who got their mustaches butchered by their barber". I was like "Thanks, but no thanks".
I wish I'd seen this before I went to the barber on Monday! Don't like what he did to my moustache at all. Going to stick to cutting it myself from now on.....
Good one with 'just a little bit cut off', went to a Turkish barber, asked him to trim the beard on the chin to the length on the side and ended up with 5mm of hair. Beard was about 6 months old. Since then I trim by myself.
this guy is like a beard guide. it's amazing how holy and sacred beards are to him, not to mention his "epic mustache!" 😂 well I really really like how his beard looks, and thank you for making these videos :)
A barber butchered my first mustache. It was my fault I wasn't specific enough. I told him I just wanted him to trim it and clean it up alittle. I walked out with almost nothing left. I'm a little over two months in to my second mustache. Still in the awkward phase but it's getting there.
The last time I let a barber touch my beard was 1992 in Canton, MA. It was the day before a friends wedding and he was going to this barber so I went along. My wife almost cried at the butchery. My current barber, I have been going to him for 20 years, fades the sides and that is all.
I went to a stylist near Mohegan Sun in CT. Couldn't believe it was only 5 bucks as everything by the casino is expensive. I gave her $20. also I walked into Salmangundi and told the owner, "The beard baron sent me." He hooked me up with your hat and said I need to send him something.
I have been using you beard oil and mustache was for a couple of months, love the results. Also, very nice videos. I was hoping you might be willing to share the name of your barber? I'm moving to the south Mass. Or northern part of RI in a couple of months and need a recommendation for any good barbers in the area I'm willing to travel if the barber is a good fit. Any help?
I've been living in China & Japan for the last 12 years. Neither country's barbers have any idea on how to do beard trims. Why is that? It's because local Chinese & Japanese people do not have a habit of keeping beards! The moment I returned to Australia, I marched into a barbershop & asked for my beard to be kept long but tidied up for work reasons. They understood immediately.
When going to the barber the first time in three months I have three months of growth should I put oil and balm in it or just wash it and leave it I want my neck lined and the sides and take off the wild hairs how high should the neck line be to keep the full look. Thank you
About how much dose a beard grow a month I heard that's about 1/2 a inch or so on average bout how true is that I been growing for 3 months and it's about 1 1/2 to 2in and feel like it's going slow
Maybe you have a video on this subject and i just havent found it but what are your tips on a new beards neck line?? So far ive gone with the two fingers width above the adams apple anymore tips would be great thanks baron!
Hey Mr.Beard Baron, Older video and i'm sure you've answered this somewhere. I'd really like your opinion on where I should line my neck? I'm almost two months in and typically follow what I call the "two finger rule" where I put my middle finger and pointer finger together, Put my middle finger right in the middle of my adams apple and trim where the top of my pointer finger is as not to have a "neckbeard". But I was curious if I should just let the rest of the neck grow for a fuller "bigger" beard. What's your opinion on this? where do you trim the neck? Thank you :)
Hello beard baron, i think this a genetic thing but my beard hair has a swirl growth pattern, sorta like a huricane swirl, on my neck. Now that said is their any way i can train my hair to grow a single direction?
Hey Johnny, Is it normal to dye your beard? i ve got some red hair on my beard and its lil bit brighter than my hair.. so i would like to know if its possible and if it doesn't look stupid :) thanks for reply and Your tips! it is really helpful ! Sincerly Jachym
Hi there.. after watching ya videos i got motivated to grow my beard.. itz a month old now.. ya tips are very helpful.. thank you. . My question is, i got a lot of white hairs growing in my beard. Is is safe to colour my beard? Any recommendations for the dye? Cheerrs
Happy Holidays to you the Beard Baron. I have been using all of the bear oils you make and sell and my beard is growing and looking fantastic. If I may, I do have a question. I'm moving out to the East Coast in a couple of months (Pawtucket, RI) and I will be looking for a good barber. Would you consider sharing the name of your barber perhaps or have any good recommendations I should check out in the area? The company I'll be working for is in Southborough, MA and I'll be traveling and work a lot in MA so driving to a barber that is a good fit it no problem for me. Thanks for any help!!
Speaking on behalf of the people who don't cut there own beard what do you do when your barber uses the scissor for cutting the hair on your head on your beard and not beard trimming scissors. Since they are not as fine they won't cut like the beard trimming scissors! Thanks beard baron!
Hi Baron I've been growing a beard for well over a month but i've trimmed it down with a 2.5 mm clipper a couple times. I haven't touched the moustache though. My question is I wanted to let it grow would you recommend shaving and starting new or just letting it go even after the multiple times i've trimmed it down? much appreciated man.
Hey Johny great video! My beard is about a month and a half now and my beard along the base (which is the beard below the jaw) seems to be growing past my neckline and don't really know how that area should look like. Do I trim that area or just keep it and see how it all plays out? I haven't seen any videos on TH-cam yet describing how to groom that particular area and keep it nice and tidy as the beard is in the growing phase. Please let me know. Thank you so much and keep the awesome videos coming.
Hi mr. beard baron. I'm 21 years old and I have been growing out my goatee for about 3-4 months now, but never really gave a thought on how to treat it (I wash my beard with shampoo every several days). Then I stumbled on your channel, now I want to commit to it and grow a full beard. So I was wondering if I use the beard oil on this "dry hay" goatee of mine, will his shine come back or I should start fresh? Keep the nice job, watched all your videos in one night :)
Sorry to bother you I have been watching your videos for sometime now , and i love the information. I just have a few question I'm hispanic more specific from Dominican Republic. I have curly thick hair so to do my hair i relax my hair so its easy to handle so i don't have the curls to deal with. My beard is curly but more nappy for a lack of a better word can you help me maintain my beard and keep it untangled maybe even a little straighter lol. Thank you Your Fan Franklin Marte
Hello beard Barron and all viewers. I'm 18,soon to be 19, and the longest I've had my facial hair was about 1/2 inch - 3/4 inch which took me roughly a month to grow. Over the years my hair growth has increased and it is just now that I've decided to grow it out. I shaved since the last time and i am now at about 1/4 inch in about 2 weeks. I was wondering whether I'd ever grow a full/semi-full beard. I'm fairly patchy and my sideburns don't connect to me mustache. I do see hairs but they are thin. I aspire to grow a beard the size of Chris millington and Anthony Bogdan. I want to get Anthony's entire look, man-bun and all but won't grow out my hair unless the beard comes along. Please help!
hello there Mr Beard Baron, I just wanted to say I have very much enjoyed watching your videos on youtube, I myself have started growing a beard its only bin 1 month and 12 days but I think the reason why I'm still going strong is because of yr videos on youtube. The only small doubts I have about my beard is the colour, its so red ! I have dark blond hair on the top of my head and a bloody red (ginger) beard some days I think I look ok like a Viking and other days I think what the hell am I doing to my face. Any can you give me some words of wisdom please. Much love Nathan
Hi Beard Baron i am 18 years old i love your videos but i have few questions there is small spots in my beard doesn't grow how i can solve this problem ? is there any oil beard or product can can help ? last question my bottom of my beard is thicker than top what is the solution ?
I have a request of your opinion. Over the last 16 months my beard has become, at the longest points, 8 inches long. Now I love the length and want even more length, but I've noticed the hair is a little thinner the bottom few inches. Question is, should I trim those inches off to make my beard more full, or just keep on bearding on?
hi beard baron, i have a question, im seventeen and in my cheeks, below my sideburns and on my chin i have this tiny hairs that are barely visible, i only have a bit of mustache and some hairs in my chin, do this small hairs will become into a beard or will they stay like that? and another question, the shaving every day thing is it real or just a myth? thank you, you have a fantastic beard
Julian nieto bermudez Those hairs are a good sign as they will develop into darker thicker beard hairs over time. Shaving everyday won't help, it's just a myth.
I'm on my first beard! About 1month In. I've been watching ur videos and just wondering if the beard oil helps with the itching? It's really bad at the chin just now!
My beards been growing 8 months and its about 6-7 inches long, it looks really good but my moustache looks terrible, its barely got any length, how long did it take you to get that moustache?
Hello sir. I wanna ask u something.. About how my bread . Im only 20yrs old...my left facial hair grow faster than my right..i dont know why.. and why my bread is kinda curly beneath my chin how to keep it nice and uncurly. Tq
marko marin Under the chin is a common area for the hairs to be different than your face. Length will help straighten it out a bit and at 20 you still have a lot of time for your beard to develop further.
I was hoping for some input on which direction I should go with my beard. It's been about 5 or 6 months at this point and the body is at a length that I like, but I still have trouble keeping the sides in check. Lately I've been thinking of trimming it down (not a clean shave though) and letting it grow back out from there, so as to work with the sides as it comes back in. It just seems that the sides of my beard have been looking worse the more I try to work with them at this length. Any thoughts on whether I should go this route or just keep working with it as it is?
Hey beard baron I have been trying to grow a beard for the past year. I am 18 years of age and I live with my father. My father is ex military and police and he can't stand beards so he always makes me trim it very short. Now I don't like short I want to grow a thick long beard, but no to long. I keep telling him what I want to do but he just ignores. Idk, what could I do to convince him to let me grow my beard?
DANIEL WALLS That's a tough one as you're living with him. I'd try and tell him how important it is to you. If that doesn't work you may have to wait until you move out and can grow your beard to whatever length you like.
DANIEL WALLS, When you're 18, you're a young adult, but still adult. :) Then he can't force you. He's still you're father, but he can't take the decision.
Hey man im currently.growing my beard but one thing that really bothers me about myself is my thin hair. Im thinning from.up there while i am only 18. So far it's been probably a month and a half that i have been growing my beard and it is looking pretty good but man the hair is just bad. I know i can pull off bald really well cause i have tried it before but never really saw anybody who is bald with a big beard like yours. What should i do to accomedate? Those a big beard work well on bald or short hair guys?
At what age did your mustache get that thick? I'm 17 and I've got a full beard and my mustache is there but it's just not nearly as thick and I'm worried about it not coming in that thick.
+Mark R Im in the same exact situation as you, 17 with a full beard, everyone else in my class can't grow anything. My mustache is also a bit slim but it will come in in a few years at the most im assuming. We are way ahead of the pack so don't worry :D
Another great vid. I see guys getting their beards and mustaches hacked off by barbers all of the time. Be responsible and learn how to maintain your own, people.
i've got to a point where i have about 2.5 cm of beard length, the thing is: I cant control it anymore! my beard, most of the time, is going everywhere! some hairs are pending to the left and leaving it a stupid lazy look. im 18 years old, but i can already grow a full beard, but this is driving me mad, im growing for about 5 to six months maybe, and i dont intend to stop. Anyone got any tips ?
Thanks for this video. A few days ago I got BUTCHERED. I went in with 7 months of almost untouched beard. I said I wanted it squared off, the exact verbiage I used was "I want it to look more Civil War General and less Duck Dynasty." I came out looking more like King Tut. Frustrating. Thanks for the tips though.
Great advice, I had to change barbers about 5 months ago because they kept shaving my sideburns too low and taking precious beard with it! Tried to be specific but they just had their own way of doing it. My barber now does exactly what I want (not touching the beard) makes such a difference.

Always great insight and videos. The relationship with the barber is always key. If they don't understand tell them to leave it ALONE!!!
Bryan Upton The relationship is very key and is only developed over time.

*if only you
Alan Cummings It's a lesson that's usually learned the hard way but know you know what to do. Best of luck with the epic mustache!

Thanks Beard Baron. always fun to see new stuff.
Oly jed Thanks for watching Oly!
no barbers around here where I live, got to learn the skill man
After my haircut the barber asked, if want him to take care of my beard and your words instantly echoed in my head like an advice from a long lost grandfather. "I have heard a lot of stories from guys who got their mustaches butchered by their barber". I was like "Thanks, but no thanks".
Steel Fil A wise man!
Great video sir! Specifics are key, learnt that the hard way.
Great advice thanks man for all your help and time you put in to helping your Bearded Brothers !!
Jason O'Brien You're welcome Jason! Thanks for watching!
I wish I'd seen this before I went to the barber on Monday! Don't like what he did to my moustache at all. Going to stick to cutting it myself from now on.....
Is it just me or is Beard Baron's beard higher on his right cheek?
Good one with 'just a little bit cut off', went to a Turkish barber, asked him to trim the beard on the chin to the length on the side and ended up with 5mm of hair. Beard was about 6 months old. Since then I trim by myself.

Going to the barber tomorrow, much appreciated!

I'm about 4 months into my first real beard and loving it. What kind of length should I leave it before shaping it?
I went to a stylist near Mohegan Sun in CT. Couldn't believe it was only 5 bucks as everything by the casino is expensive. I gave her $20.
also I walked into Salmangundi and told the owner, "The beard baron sent me." He hooked me up with your hat and said I need to send him something.
+michael therrien Glad they treated you right!
+The Beard Baron where do you get your hats?
Well put as usual. Thanks Baron.
Wesley Allen You're welcome Wesley, thanks for watching!
Great video as always Baron, thanks!
I'm lucky that my barber is an epic beardsman himself, so he knows exactly what to do!
K100 Lucky indeed!

My barber chopped the corners off my beard around 6 months ago, I will never ever let him touch the body of my beard again.

TheChainsofAlice I usually suggest about an inch below the jawbone. If you're going for a long full beard that line can be lowered over time.
I'm going to the barber today and I'm quite nervous.
Recommendations of top barbers in London?
Hey Mr.Beard Baron, Older video and i'm sure you've answered this somewhere. I'd really like your opinion on where I should line my neck? Always like and thumbs up bro . Keep it up
I'm in mass on nh boarder can you or anyone recommend a barber. I was thinking of trying Roosters in Lynnfield

My question is, i got a lot of white hairs growing in my beard. Is is safe to colour my beard? Any recommendations for the dye?

Mathan Hari Hey Mathan, I'd check out natural henna dye if you have concerns with chemical dyes. It may take some experimentation to get it right.

Jeffrey Bartman Thanks for watching Jeffrey!
Speaking on behalf of the people who don't cut there own beard what do you do when your barber uses the scissor for cutting the hair on your head on your beard and not beard trimming scissors. Since they are not as fine they won't cut like the beard trimming scissors!
Thanks beard baron!

Maka Mur You can certainly trim the length of that area to keep it in check and allow all other growth to continue growing down. Thanks for watching!
Good advice mate !
Do you wash you beard the morning you wake up to see the barber or leave it as is....
can I email you pictures of my beard progress?
Hi mr. beard baron. I'm 21 years old and I have been growing out my goatee for about 3-4 months now, but never really gave a thought on how to treat it (I wash my beard with shampoo every several days).

Glenn Rock Thanks for watching Glenn! Beard oil will work great on a goatee and I'd keep it as is to see how it performs.

Franklin Martr Embracing the curls is important but a quality comb can certainly help detangle things a bit. Thanks for watching Franklin!
You should record your process of you in the shop when he does your hair/ beard lol! And would u ever let yout barber trim your beard??!

Patrick Puma At your age you are still young in your beard development, just give it time and I'm sure you'll be happy with what you see :)
I've been trying to find that bowler hat.
Try Goorin bros. (New York) visit the site I get all my stuff there.
I went to Goorin Bros. in Cambridge MA. They didn't have it so I will probably have it shipped from N.Y. thanks.
michael therrien Hey Michael, I got this very hat at Salmagundi in Jamaica Plain. Really nice shop and they can get you anything.
Thank you so much. I appreciate it Beard Baron.

Mohammed Abdelhalim At 18 I'd give it more time as your beard will continue to develop and hopefully have those spots filled in.
Is it good to dye the grey out off the beard, if so what products are recommended?
Jose Caro You certainly can. You should check out natural henna dye.
The Beard Baron ok thank you very much , I will look into it... have a great year
Thanks man
Mathan Hari Any time Mathan!
If you are questioning it let it grow
Matthew Hodges If you want it to look more full than you can trim those ends. Also, growing out all your neck hair is key to a dense long full beard.
Hey bud. Great videos.
hi beard baron, i have a question, im seventeen and in my cheeks, below my sideburns and on my chin i have this tiny hairs that are barely visible, i only have a bit of mustache and some hairs in my chin, do this small hairs will become into a beard or will they stay like that? and another question, the shaving every day thing is it real or just a myth? thank you, you have a fantastic beard
Michael Moffat Most definitely, give it a try!
My beards been growing 8 months and its about 6-7 inches long, it looks really good but my moustache looks terrible, its barely got any length, how long did it take you to get that moustache?
jacobjumpup Mustaches tend to grow slow. My mustache got to this length around 8-10 months.
EmperorOfTheMuffins It's good to experiment as it's the only way to find out what really works for you. Just don't go too fast or aggressive with it.
Hey beard baron,I have a question why does my facial hair from my right grows more than my left.. Need advice asap
Extreme boxeing It may only appear that it's growing faster. These things tend to work themselves over time.
Rockin beard!
may i know what watch you're wearing?
Praveen Nair Hey Praveen, it's a Longines classic.
To be renamed one day...maybe The trick is to fade the sideburns up into bald which will make for a great look.
'bad news city and your about to be the mayor of it' thats made me laugh
At what age did your mustache get that thick? I'm 17 and I've got a full beard and my mustache is there but it's just not nearly as thick and I'm worried about it not coming in that thick.
+Mark R Im in the same exact situation as you, 17 with a full beard, everyone else in my class can't grow anything. My mustache is also a bit slim but it will come in in a few years at the most im assuming. We are way ahead of the pack so don't worry :D
Izach Evens Yeah my class mates have baby faces for the most part so having a beard is cool.
awesome, thanks for the tips :)
bluekats777 Any time!
Another great vid. I see guys getting their beards and mustaches hacked off by barbers all of the time. Be responsible and learn how to maintain your own, people.
AWEandthenSOME Well said!
i've got to a point where i have about 2.5 cm of beard length, the thing is: I cant control it anymore!
my beard, most of the time, is going everywhere! some hairs are pending to the left and leaving it a stupid lazy look.
im 18 years old, but i can already grow a full beard, but this is driving me mad, im growing for about 5 to six months maybe, and i dont intend to stop.
Anyone got any tips ?
Megadeth3463 Get past the awkward stage of where the hairs just want to be wild. Grow past it and you'll be good to go!
The Beard Baron i will keep it! thanks for the attention!
Ian Hardin Sorry to hear about your beard Ian! Hopefully the next trim goes much better for you.
"God Forbid" 👌😂
I asked for a "little bit of the sides" and I got butchered. I'm very very pissed off. He took me down to nearly nothing and I'm livid.
Dammit Jim, I'm a barber, not a miracle worker!
I learned how to cut my hair because I was tired of leaving disappointed.
Your beard looks to be leaning to your right
Because the light is coming from his left.
teakey It's the lighting and my shirt collar is making it stick out a bit :)
My Barber charges more for a beard than he does a hair cut
Protect the moustache !
Please cut it again, and this time leave it a little longer.
Good videos Beard Baron. keep it up!
