    I am an English teacher in Japan, so I can't quite grow my beard as long as I'd like. Modern day professionalism is of the essence in this country. I go to the barbershop each month for a Nikolai II style trim. It's similar to the "ducktail" beard.

    I just wanted to let you know, Ive been growing my beard out for 10 weeks now and my wife has fought me every step of the way over it. She asked me today what I was doing with it. I showed her this video and told her your beard is what I was trying for. So after 2.5 months of her telling me to shave it off (not very nicely most times) when she seen your beard she said "oh, thats not bad at all, okay, you can do that"! Thank you Beard Baron! You saved yet another beard!

    I've seen a lot of beards but your beard for style and neatness I think is the best looking I've ever seen. It's the right blend of length and fullness and it looks great.

    Longtime beardsmen. Wish I'd had a guide on my first (shaped) beard. I learned after about a year of long beard struggles, before I learned stopping a trim was the most important part. Let it grow. Well Done.

    Between this video and the stache trimming video, my beard is now looking pristine! Thanks so much for your advice! We had an awesome time at the Los Angeles beard competition! Subscribed after watch 3 minutes of this. I never knew if growing a beard was like growing your hair (i.e. get it trimmed every month). You answered this straight away. Just grow it to your desired length. Could never find an answer. And when you mentioned the awkward stage i thought thats the part i always struggle with and therefore trim. Thanks for the tips. Legend.

    Beard baron. I am glad I stumbled upon this video. I am at the awkward stage. I use your beard oil (fireside) and comb every morning after a shower, so it looks presentable. But i always wanted to trim. You gave me the answer of WHEN to trim, i still got a ways to go. Thanks again! Btw, fireside is amazing.

    I learned a few weeks ago to just put down the trimmers, at maybe 3-5 months I was shaping and probably unknowingly trimming more than I needed to. then kind of felt stuck like you said! Told myself I'm done trimming. And it seems my beard is pushing through and gaining a little more length after less than a month of truly letting it go. Great, great tips my good sir.

    Question for "The Beard Baron":
    I am in trouble...
    I think I had commented on another video of yours, and stated that I am "experimenting" with my beard by growing it out. I usually have a very shortly-trimmed full beard. I am not sure if I will keep my beard as big as I currently have right now, but I am just having a little bit of fun, in order to see what my genes are capable of.
    I currently am in the process of looking for part-time employment--preferably warehouse/packaging or "behind-the-scenes" clerical work....Some type of job that doesn't really involve much or any interaction face-to-face with customers.
    My Vocational Rehab Counselor has been bugging me to trim my beard before my next job interview. She said that my beard has gotten really "bushy".
    I don't want to trim my beard, but it looks like I really don't have a choice. Also, my Mom has been bugging me about it as well.
    ...Do you have any recommendations on HOW I should go about trimming my beard, where it doesn't look "as bushy" and has a more better groomed appearance, but at the same time I am taking the least amount of hair off?

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Creating a cheek line and neck line are a great start. Trimming excess long hairs that stick out from the beard really helps as well. Those 2 things will help the appearance of your beard without taking too much off.

      @rainbow20112011 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Beard Baron
      --How many months growth is your full beard in this video?
      --Also...Is it normal for a few hair strands to come out of your beard while coming it?

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I maintain my beard length at around 9 months as I regularly trim it. It's very normal to lose a few hairs while combing so no worries there :)

    • @rainbow20112011
      @rainbow20112011 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Beard Baron
      Do you recommend that I get a better comb?
      I bought a $1.07 small comb at SuperTarget. I didn't have any problem using that comb to comb my beard when my beard was very short. However, recently I have been growing my beard out (It has been almost one month ago when I started my beard journey), and when I use that same comb now to comb my beard in the "upward direction", chunks of hair get "stuck in the comb", making it hard for me to comb effectively.
      ...Do you recommend that I get a better quality comb---Will that help reduce, or solve, the problem?
      I don't know how much longer I will be growing my beard out. I am receiving EXTREME pressure from my Mom to trim it very short again, like it used to be before I went on my beard journey.

    Do you suggest to just let the neck line and cheek lines grow out instead of lining it up? I've been at it for 5 months and I have good growth on my chin, jaw line, and neck. But not very much growth on my cheeks. I always thought having a crisp line on your cheeks would make it look fuller than it really is lol.

    Beard Baron. First allow me to say that I am absolutely greatful to have found your videos! Very good material here and so far you have answered lots of my questions as well as given great tips. The questions I have are, my beard is very thick at this point, probably two inches off of the face, how do I keep my beard from having huge curls right below the ears? Lol! Should I continue to grow it longer as maybe this will help the curls to lay down? Or is there a way to trim this area to make it look uniform?Thanks so much!

    Love your calm reassurances hahaha it puts my nerves at ease about all this. In your opinion do longer beards (2+ months) require beard oils and products, or is it just a preference kind of deal? What do those products do for a beard?

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beard products help maintain a healthy strong beard and I recommend it early on. Years ago before I started creating my own beard oil my beard would get in rough shape but now it's 100x better.

    Question for "The Beard Baron"
    What about if you trim your beard using a beard trimmer in stages, increasing the grade, to keep all the hairs roughly the same length as you go. As you say, different hairs grow at different rates, so beginning a beard growing adventure and trimming everything to a grade one, then a week later, trimming everything to a grade two, a week later grade 3 etc. is still allowing your beard to level up, while also keeping things neat and tidy.
    My question is this... do you disagree?

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Hoyle It's definitely a good approach if you can stay disciplined in it. The reason I encourage men to grow out the beard and maintain the lines is because every time you trim you're opening yourself up to making a mistake or a poor decision.

    Hey Beard Baron. I've had a full beard since I was about 13. However I either let it grow wild or shaved it close til recently. Your videos have have helped me so much in learning how to properly trim and shape my beard. However the one thing I really have trouble with is judging where to trim my neckline or whether to even trim it at all. I'm about 7 months of untrimmed growth now and can't even see my neck now without lifting my beard. I'm afraid to trim my neckline in that it might damage the body underneath. Do you trim your neckline at all? If so, would you consider doing a video on how to shave/trim your "neckbeard"?

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Phillippi I trim my neckline as low as it can go. My beard covers it so you never really see it. It can be lowered over time as it can grow a bit fast.

    Just wanted to say that I received my package with the comb, scissors, wax and oil today. Very fast shipping to Norway!
    Your vids are very educational, and I hope to see more from you soon.
    Oh, and a quick question: You might never have run into this, but becoming a bit older (soon 40) I have gotten a few grey hairs in my beard. I'm contemplating trying some colouring/dying to get rid of them, and maybe darken my colour a bit. Not permanently, but as a fun change perhaps.
    Any advice on how to do this properly?

    Hey Beard Baron!
    Thanks for all the tips and advices, digging all your videos. I've been growing by beard for 9 months and since about 1 month it's turning in a natural french fork... any tips on how to avoid the fork? Thanks in advance, and great job on the videos, great stuff.

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      E. S. Ferreira Some beards tend to fork more so than others. Try growing out as much neck hair as possible so the fork isn't so obvious. Otherwise you may have to trim it back if you're really trying to avoid the fork look.

      The Beard Baron I'm excited for the eating tips. I have a problem Baron. I have like a year of regularly trimmed growth..my mustache is pretty decent but one side doesn't like to naturally curl..do I just need wax or do I need to curl it somehow?

    • @ZombieDragQueen
      @ZombieDragQueen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Beard Baron Here I would say it is fairly simple. I have a big 'stache so I bend it to the sides between my thumb and index finger (without wax or oil) gently a few times for the duration of the dinner. Then I open my mouth wider than I'd do if I wouldn't have facial hair to get everything from the fork/spoon with minimal spillage. Now if spillage does occur then a napkin can come in handy, but I usually after a dinner always go to the bathroom to wash my hands and since I grew the beard that gives me the opportunity to see if a bit of fat from a soup or something has managed to slither itself through my careful methods. After I wash my hands I just remove those bits and crumbs and what not with water and comb it with a tiny nice horn made comb that fits perfectly in the pocket. Ta-daa! Problem solved and no one has to faint or drop their monocles in their sherry glasses because of a tiny crumb of dinner leftover on your facial hair :)

    Beard baron you are epic I really enjoy watching your videos. I have started growing a beard for the first time I am at only 3 weeks so far its quite patchy but coming together I have some really noticeable long hairs that are sticking out along my jaw line now. should I wait till 3 months then trim. subscribed as well cheers.

      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      adam nichol Thanks subscribing Adam! You can certainly trim those long hairs but you can't get carried away. There will be a big temptation to keep trimming. That's why I usually recommend not doing so. If you can exhibit self control then you can try it.

    Hello John ! Once again great video, I expect nothing else from you :p
    I have a 2 months and a half beard (I have asian blood so it takes time to grow) which is short and not dense yet. It is getting quite wild on my chin (certain hair are way longer than the rest) but I decided NOT to trim a thing so I could power through it (as you taught us to do in many videos) and trim way later (I'm guessing it's gonna take at least 6-7 months for me to grow something decent).
    My point being, I'm waiting for the shorter hair to grow and get up to speed to the longer hair I already have, is that the right call ? Or should I just trim the longer hair and the shorter hair will eventually reach the same point as the "ex-longer" hair and keep doing so until I reach my goal ?
    I hope you understand my question, and I know you'll do your best to answer me !
    Thanks man, really appreciate what you're doing and your passion is a great one to have, I bought both your mustache comb and large beard comb aswell as Wildwood oil and incoming I got the Waikiki oil :p (I will buy the scissors later on as I don't really need them yet).
    PEACE

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nicolas, glad you enjoyed it! I'd recommend trimming the longer hair and allow the shorter hair to catch up. The trick is just commit to the longer hairs and not start trimming everything as it will totally defeat the whole purpose.

    I had an awkward stage of my beard and I had to trim to make it look better for work. If you are growing a beard and are brushing it to keep it close to your face and shaving your neckline, how do you transition into a longer beard like yours?

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ryan, it's a slow transition where you let the neckline get lower and lower. With the brushing you start brushing the hair away from your face once it leaves your jaw.

    • @halfstep67
      @halfstep67 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I first started growing my beard, I shave my neckline and trimmed my stache. As my beard got longer and I decided to let it grow, it got long enough that it made trimming the neckline difficult. Now I don't shave my neckline at all and my beard is long enough to hide it. So once you get some length to you beard, it will hide the neckline and let you stop trimming the neckline. If you are going for length and fullness, don't trim the neckline to begin with. The neck beard hairs really add length and fullness to the beard especially if you have a thinner beard to begin with. Plus, part of the advantage of growing a beard is that you don't have to shave. If you trim a neckline, you are still stuck with shaving. It makes it easier if you can get by without trimming at all and just do a maintenance trim one a month with you get the length you desire. I am a 9 months and still letting it grow. Even if you do a maintenance trim once a month, you beard grows about 1/2 inch per month so you will still pick up some length and every so often, you will have to do a reshaping cut to get it back down to the length you want.

    • @ImperviouslyGaming
      @ImperviouslyGaming 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use all natural shampoos its not really that bad, the problem is most people don't and those are horrible for your skin normally and will clog pores and damage the hair etc. Since I use all natural hemp shampoos I don't necessarily put it on my beard but i don't mind it getting in there cause i know its not bad for it, Use natural oils such as jojoba oil or buy a beard oil like the one at The beard baron store, it is scented which is nice.

    So I've got a question for you Baron. I can grow a pretty thick and full beard, except in one place... The very front of my chin. Hair grows there but its not as dark and not as thick. I really want to grow my beard out but I'm worried it would look rather stupid having the hair on the front of my chin being a little lighter color and maybe not quite as thick. Is it even acceptable to grow a beard like this? Or does it just look sloppy? What are your thoughts?

    • @thebeardbaron
      @thebeardbaron  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only way to figure it out is to let it grow out and see how your beard reacts and if length will help cover the patch. Some hairs might not kick in for a while so it's best to see what it's capable of.

    Hi Beard Baron
    I have grown a beard and also moustache since the past 4 months i just keep my moustache trimmed above the lip. The problem i have is that my beard and my moustache is very thin and not dense as it supposed to be. Many people at my age have thicker and denser and darker beard. This was one of my thoughts about wooden combs aswell.

      Yeah I use a kent at the minute but with the teeth bein quite close together I seem to be getting a bit of a snagging problem which not only hurts but I always fear im pulling or breaking hairs. I think ill just get a wooden one to try. Would the wooden combs absorbing oil be bad? Surely that will only do good things for the wood? Or are we saying that it would pick up the oil youre trying to put into your beard?

    • @SimonPowellwildcamping

      The Beard Baron I'm also having an issue with my mustache. Is 3months old now and my beard is 1month old. Some hairs in my mustache just go completely crazy. Some go straight out, some go straight down and seem to be real thick and won't conform with the rest no matter how much i comb. I use wax but i work in the construction field so it works it self out so to speak. I'm getting bad comments from my co-workers that say i need to trim it because it looks crazy. Will those hairs eventually lay with the rest or should i just trim the crazy ones?
