@@fotografm No need to feel guilty Simon. I don’t mind spending money if the result is as good as this product. I would not have had any idea which SDR to choose. 👍
It's a great rabbit hole. I have been down it on and off for 50 Years ! Thanks for the congrats. I think that was due to the Meshtastic bandwagon hype.
@@fotografm just about to book the foundation test. starting of with a cheap uhf/vhf analogue then see where the hobby takes me. like you I'm in a flat with a tiny balcony but top floor so with a mast 2m/70cm will be easy. HF will be a challenge as I dont have a garden for a v dipole or other. Got a Baofeng gt-5r hearing loads of chatter on the local hubnet repeater.
@@jamesemery1 Hi James. That's great news. I have found that being high up is a great advantage. I also have only a balcony and for HF find the best solution so far is Diamond HF mobile whips mounted horizontally into free space from the balcony railing. The best solution I found for grounding was not radials but chicken wire spread out on as many surfaces as possible ! Which city are you in ?
@@fotografm I'm in Sheffield, yes I've seen photos of people using stainless fine mesh as well, do you connect the screen from the coax to the chicken wire?
@@jamesemery1 Yes that's right. The SO239 mounting bracket is bolted onto the balcony railing and I make sure to clamp the chicken wire between bracket and railing in orde rto make a good connection. When I run 1 metre wide chicken wire strips next to each other, I connect them together at one foot or so intervals in order to provide continuity of the ground connection.
I've been using SDRUno with an RSP1a for years which to be honest is a bit of a mess but it works ok for picking up Weather Sat pics but was curious what SDR Console is all about and was it more intuitive so thanks for this
Great overview and very helpful, I will 100% try it after seeing this. Question: are there any RSPdx-specific features or capabilities that SDR Console does not give access to?
I am using SDR Console....I wanted to use to track satellites. Using with RSPDX-R2. It works but I get no antenna selection. I have the SDR Play API installed and I added SDR Play in definition to "replace" but it it still shows an "unknown" device although it sees the serial number. Rebooted, replugged in device, same problem. Now after I restarted, it will no longer track frequency at all, it just stays on the same frequency I have to manually enter. Any suggestions? Tnx, I am new user to SDR Console, I like how it has the plugins built in to software.
@@fotografm Still can't get to show antenna ports. It is driving me bonkers. Tried plugging into USB hub and restarting but still no antenna selection. Tried deleting definition and reinstalling, reinstalled SDR Play API but it always shows "unknown device". It is starting to change frequency for some satellites but only a few.

Thank you for your comment. Perhaps you would care to elaborate.
I have bought this SDR on your recommendation Simon. Very pleased with it. Like your videos very much. Thank you.
Great to hear ! I feel a bit guilty about causing people to spend money but it is a good investment. I have two rspdx's !

Give it a try. I personally will not be going back to SDRUno.

I haven't noticed any yet...
Hello, how can I install STL-SDR V4 in console V3.0?

I haven't tried it for satellite tracking. Mine has an "Antenna" select button on the home tab.

Is that Volmet from Ventnor?
Not sure. Will have to listen long enough until it announces itself.
I installed sdr console but once I start my sdr Duo I still don't get any singal. My sdr Duo does work with sdr uno. Thanks. N1CM
Maybe you need to install the latest API from SDRPlay.
