Correct. Plus they are not ok with this form factor, but somehow the FX3 is ok. Never understood why. At least I can pull focus and check false colors on the 5” monitor
I wished they moved the dual gain ISO further apart. I find the S5 clean 4000 iso a bit more useful. I would like this feature not to turn night to day, but to able to use smaller apertures (making cheaper lenses usable at night) and to also be able to use lower power LED lights (that are cheaper, more power efficient making the battery last longer, etc)
The native ISO is 400 and 3200, however the second Kicks in at 1250 (clean) by the time you get to 3200 there is noise that you need to clean up in software. Panasonic second native kicks in at 4000 so its clean at this ISO.@@captainradio5894

Thanks a lot would be cool a test on the second ISO in low light. the Difference in lux between the bridge and the deck light won't allow togo beyond Iso challenging the dynamic range
Amazing shots as always, looking forward to upgrading to this camera from the P4K. Are all of the shots here stabilised in post or just the 90mm shots? I know your handheld skills are dialled but this is insanely stable for such a light setup. I struggle without weight in the rig. Cheers,
First in! Dang, I'm really considering getting this camera and moving back to BM from Sony.. also your handheld is insanely stable. Did you do any stabilization with the gyro in post?
@@matteobertoliDid you change your shutter speed or leave it at 180°? I thought I'd seen reviews of the gyro where they said it had to be set at 90° for it to be optimal. Otherwise, I love your work. Signed, a French subscriber 🤟
@@matteobertoliI downloaded some of your footage from Blackmagics website and even though there wasn’t too much moving, when I put the gyro on the footage, it was super smooth, and didn’t have any warping. I was surprised, coming from the BMPCC4k, it wasn’t that great. Do you know if there’s something updated with the gyro in this camera?
was just planning in getting the 6k pro, but I have decided to get this new 6k full frame. It's the full frame that got me. ND filters, eh, I'll just buy them for the camera, takes a minute to change when lighting conditions change, but hey, beauty is pain and the overall results is where it's at. I'm just worried if Blackmagic later next year announces the 6k pro full frame with the ND filters just for cash grab. that'll piss me off. lol
Hey Matteo! I just ordered this camera but I’m curious, how is the super 35 mode? Does it still have the same benefits of open gate with great low light, less noise, and better depth of field? Or does it regress back to a 6k pro?
Two things grabbed my attention the most. For one, the color separation you get with this camera. For example, at 03:05, the amount of color info present on the shot of the bald guy against the Sun is impressive. I guess the 90 mm should be helping a bit there also. And sencond, the difference in picture quality among the night shots coming from the BM6K opposite to the Panasonic S5 ones. I don't know the settings on the S5 for this video, but I had the idea that this camera was so good in low light at 4000 iso. But compared to the 6k footage it looks super noisy.
I have Lumix S5 and like you say, iso 4000 is very clean so i think the BTS was recorded below, maybe 2500-3200... That is why it looks noisier than BM. Also there is less contrast on S5 BTS footage co its hard to compare unfortunately :(
thanx for the content! Will you share some of these night braw footage so we can play around with high iso settings?))) don't see it at the link you shared.
Hi Matteo, congrats for your work. If you dont mind i would like to make you (or anyone reading this) a question. Im going to buy this camera and im not sure witch lens should i buy the first. If you want to buy just one all-around zoom lens for this camera, witch one would be????? Shoud it has Image stabilizer in it? Obrigado!
I really like this image! It makes me want it in a heavier camera like an Alexa or a Venice style body, to have a proper rig with all the IO like 12G sdi and multiple video outs. I also like the weight to get rid of micro jitters. If Blackmagic used this sensor and gave it a faster processor to do 6kFF @ 120 FPS, I think they would have a hard time keeping them in stock. I would pay 10K$ for an image like this in a larger body :)
First, congratulate you on your work and thank you for sharing it. Regarding the night shots, they seem to me to have a great richness of colors, and that the camera sees the tones of the blacks very well without paste them and for me the appearance is very filmic, I have seen other night shots with A7s'/FX3 and I don't think that the color and black reproduction has that quality, even though they produce less noise and you can use higher ISOs that produce unreal and synthetic images compared to human vision. What do you think about it or how would you compare them?
I own a ZV-E1 (same FX3 and A7s III sensor) and I tested out the A7s III at night against the Pocket before (there is a video on my channel). First of all I find it completely crazy that if I wanna get "clean" low light footage I have to switch to 12800 ISO. Found myself having to use a ND at night in the streets of Lisbon, which is quite stupid to be honest. Second, I think Sony it does an incredible poor job at managing mixed color temperatures and street lights. The fall off is super harsh and you get a lot of green/yellow cast on the skin tones. And as you said the blacks are not true blacks, they are a bit washed out. I don't know why everyone is praising that camera for low light stuff. I think the FX30 is much better, at least second ISO is at 3200 and it looks pretty decent. I also still wondering if that is a true second ISO (which I doubt) or it's a big badass denoiser just kicking in.
Yeah it's nuts I've seen videos if people using nd filters for shooting at night with that sensor, also the images look very processed on that super high second native iso, on the fx6 where you can turn off the noise reduction the 12800 iso is much noisier so it seems like it's noise reduction used to make this supposed second native iso
Mateo, I do not have the BMPCC-6KFF, but I really like the results, the image is closer to the analog, I really like the treatment of colors and blacks, the night looks night and it seems enough to work with minimal lighting without needing large lights. On the other hand, the camera allows you to work in full frame with the lenses you want using the appropriate adapter (it is a dream for any filmmaker to be able to choose the lens you like the most). Yes, the body is plastic, and the shape is ....well......., but the image it gives you is spectacular, and also raw. Many criticisms of only 13 stops, but with 13 stops great films have been shot like jumper, 2012 ice age, etc... and in super 35, and the BMPCC 6kFF is also FF. I think in the right hands you can do whatever you want with this camera.@@matteobertoli
@@matteobertoli One of my biggest pet peeves with "modern" camera footage of the past handful of years is that people won't let dark black areas actually be dark black areas, they're always lifted to the point of washing out the image. Your low light footage with this camera looks fantastic.

I also didn't understand if it has a desqueeze option in the menu and if so what factors. Thanks again
All I see in this firmware is 1.33x. I don’t have any anamorphic lenses unfortunately
thank you 🙏@@matteobertoli
Nice footage Matteo. Isn't your wife sometimes saying: 'Matteo you're a video-maniak. Can we also do something without the camera?':)
Great review, Adobe Podcast AI will clean that audio right up for you and it’s free.
Actually there is a tool in DaVinci which works great. Just didn’t know it existed 😂
I did for some shots and holy crap! First time trying it and I was shocked. Works much better than any IBIS I tried!
@matteobertoli did you adjust your camera settings for the gyro (like people do with the pockets) or did you shoot at 180° shutter?
@@matteobertoliDid you change your shutter speed or leave it at 180°? I thought I'd seen reviews of the gyro where they said it had to be set at 90° for it to be optimal. Otherwise, I love your work.

@@joaocorreiamedia same always 180d
was just planning in getting the 6k pro, but I have decided to get this new 6k full frame. It's the full frame that got me. ND filters, eh, I'll just buy them for the camera, takes a minute to change when lighting conditions change, but hey, beauty is pain and the overall results is where it's at. I'm just worried if Blackmagic later next year announces the 6k pro full frame with the ND filters just for cash grab. that'll piss me off. lol
Great video. Have you ever messed with the sigma fp much?
can u make Comparision between 6kpro vs 6k full frame?
Hey Matteo! I just ordered this camera but I’m curious, how is the super 35 mode? Does it still have the same benefits of open gate with great low light, less noise, and better depth of field? Or does it regress back to a 6k pro?
great video, but with the noise reduction in Resolve you could improve the audio a lot.
First Gen S5 are superior in noise performance.
I have Lumix S5 and like you say, iso 4000 is very clean so i think the BTS was recorded below, maybe 2500-3200... That is why it looks noisier than BM. Also there is less contrast on S5 BTS footage co its hard to compare unfortunately :(
@@gz3421 if I’m approaching 1000 iso on the S5, I’ll go all the way to 4000 to keep things clean 🤣
thanx for the content! Will you share some of these night braw footage so we can play around with high iso settings?))) don't see it at the link you shared.
what do you use for the bts?
Another question? Battery Life? And Total Wright of the camera with battery?
Nice! Maybe you can upload few photos from that camera. What kind of file have been recorded when you press that photo button. Cheers!
Are you using a viewing LUT? Buttery?
Would you guys recommend the Lumix f1.8 primes?
Nice, this looks great! Also fun for me to see compared to the Panasonic S camera since I shoot on those also. The textures on her face and everything else holds up so much better on the Blackmagic than the Panasonic here. Also the lights look much better. And noise, where is the noise? Amazing! Thanks Matteo! This is much appreciated! Looking forward to get the camera when it releases in October.
Thank you, bro, you convinced me to grab this beast ❤❤❤
Stunning images! I guess full frame does matter after all. Have you played with any other lenses?
The FX3 might have impressive low light capabilities but it turns colors to mush in the dark.
Yes it’s terrible with mixed color temp lights, especially at night
Does this one come with the gyro stabilization in post like the 6k? Thank you for the clip, awesome presentation!
Yep
Did you stabilized the handheld shots in post ? Thanks for this amazing job !
