When it comes to noise at higher ISOs, what I've heard BMD sales people say is that while most other cameras have NR built-in, they don't include any NR in their camera, but give you a professional post-production suite for free that has great NR and offers more flexibility.
A note for BlackMagic users, I know this applies to the Pocket 4K but I don't know if it does to the other cameras in the lineup, it all depends on if they support the gyro stabilization in Resolve. The gyro stabilizer also automatically digitally corrects rolling shutter quite well, and I believe it even does it if you turn your stabilization settings all the way down, giving you a quick way to deal with rolling shutter on occasions that it does cause problems. Again, this only works on the gyro setting for the stabilizer, not the digital tracking modes
This applies for all cameras, but if you are able to attach a gyro recording device to your camera (there can't be much play/mount must be tight) and you can perform smooth and precise gyro stabilisation using the Gyroflow app. An example is using it on a 700D with a cold shoe mount to attach a phone to record gyro data, then using it to stabilise the footage (which works well for wide, prime lenses). Since it's a cold shoe mount it would work on a D7100 and pretty much any camera. This does add more to the workflow than just having it in camera though. Sony alpha cameras can also record gyro data
@@foliumcore right that's a cool workflow. Would you be able to reduce rolling shutter with that workflow too? That's the secret that makes the poor RS performance on the BlackMagic cameras less of an issue, so I would love to know a way to reduce that problem on other cameras

At the risk of sounding like a boomer, I think everyone's too vanilla for cinema cameras nowadays. This whole gear chasing is just to compensate the lack of talent. I use the pocket 4K for all my personal work and travel stuff and often see people talking all kinds of bs but their videos 'for clients' aren't even half as good as my personal videos that I shoot on family holidays. And when I discover people who are leagues better than me, most of the time they are using the most basic stuff that you require to capture enough details. The secret sauce that sets them apart is always their craft. Be it the lighting, the design, the direction or how the camera compliments the story. Every single camera that you showed in that first graphic is good enough to get a quality image. I am not being a hypocrite when I say this coz admittedly I do opt for an Alexa when doing client work but that is a professional requirement of a workhorse and something that can be afforded without qualms and not the crippling dependency on gear. If you have hybrid work, make a list of pros and cons. Pros that are non-negotiable and cons that you can live with. Buy the hybrid camera that suits you. If you are cinema focused, do the same and get a cinema camera. And then focus on the craft. If I was buying a camera now, sure I'd 100% go for the 6K full frame coz it suits me best. But do I NEED it as a filmmaker over my pocket 4K. Nope. And I knew for sure when I got the pocket 4K in 2020 that no matter what features are added, I simply do not need to upgrade till this breaks down.
Truth. I used to care a lot more about gear when I started, but now I care more about and focus on scripts, storyboarding, shot planning and location scouting and composition to aid in storytelling. I myself am still learning, but I think this is an important thing to focus on that gets forgotten by people starting out in filmmaking. I think the gear that really matters (at least for me) are stands, grips, flags, bounces and lights.
the nice thing with exposing braw is that the iso only maps where middle grey sits in respect to highlights, so you can choose any iso with a native and expose for highlights. when i had my 6k pro i only switched between iso 1000 (to stay on the 400 native) and iso 1250 (to use the 3200 native). as long as you protect your highlights youre good. Canon 1D was $5,500 when launched and the jvc camcorder was $3000 when launched. When adjusted to inflation, that's $9750 for the 1D today and $5500 for the camcorder. You wouldn't walk in to a car store and exclaim "10,000 dollars?!!" would you? Gauge the price according to the article not your bank balance
Not spending a 1000 plus bucks on a used camera body alone with no lenses. Why, you ask? Because YT doesn't pay. And if YT doesn't pay, this is relegated to a hobby. And if it's a hobby that don't pay for itself, I'm keeping any camera purchase under 150 bucks. And now, it's way faster and cheaper, just to have AI make the footage you need in the background, right while your editing in your video editor. Boom, you're done. No need to go anywhere, film anything, ISO or aperature size or golden hour anything. You can't make money at this, so don't spend any money at it.

It's hard to work with
And it's not for the majority of people
It’s not expensive compared to any other camera in the market providing similar video features, it’s actually one of the cheaper options.
Because the BRAND is GARBAGE... I supported them for 4 CAMERA generation I AM OLD>.. I shot a western on the OG pocket in raw 1 day after they added RAW to the camera AND I had to MATH OUT the the footage on the card because the camera DIDNT tell you how much space you had and then the HDMI broke and I had to film an entire movie on a terrible 3 inch screen I also the OG BMD Ursa when IT was released and hot pixels EVERYWHERE and no way to remap them... on site you need to TRUST your gear - I DONT TRUST BMD
lol cry more
"guys it's only $2500 for the body..."
Greeeat. Golden age, so long as your have a gold mine sitting in your back garden.
It was on sale at 1500 I believe on bhp not long ago
Not spending a 1000 plus bucks on a used camera body alone with no lenses. Why, you ask?
Because YT doesn't pay. And if YT doesn't pay, this is relegated to a hobby. And if it's a hobby that don't pay for itself, I'm keeping any camera purchase under 150 bucks. And now, it's way faster and cheaper, just to have AI make the footage you need in the background, right while your editing in your video editor. Boom, you're done. No need to go anywhere, film anything, ISO or aperature size or golden hour anything. You can't make money at this, so don't spend any money at it.
only if these are lighter... I used the 6k Pro for some time and man it's heavy, using the FX30 recently.
