Folsom Prison Blues I feel is a better choice for number one. As to honorable mention, I’d add Where Corn Don’t Grow by Waylon Jennings and In Color by Jamie Johnson.
That not being on the list is just fine. If a Conway Twitty song made the list, it would have to be Don't Cry, Joni, I'd Love to Lay You down or Tight Fittin' Jeans.
Actually, and this is actually very surprising, Conway Twitty classified his music, back then, as the same as Marvin Gaye, because he was very popular, so that’s why Hello Darlin’ wasn’t ever on the top country billboards
+Tommy Truth I agree with Styler Prime - I'm 16 and listen to singers like Johnny Cash and Chris Ledoux. You have to remember that not every young person is the same - however I do agree that most modern and recent music is quite bad. I listen to almost every genre of music, with some dating back to the 60's onwards.

In all fairness I don't really think you can have a top 10 top Country songs of all time without it being a top 500 list ( at least) . Because there are so many Great Country classics that deserve recognition.
My personal opinion is, most of what Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Bobby Bare, Tompall Glaser and Kris Kristofferson, sang deserves to be at No1
Or ..Hank Jr ,..or D.A.C.! "Well, I was thumbin' from Montgomery I had my guitar on my back When a stranger stopped beside me in an antique Cadillac... He was dressed like 1950 Half drunk and hollow-eyed He said, "It's a long walk to Nashville Would you like a ride, son?""

Cash is great but you forced "ring of fire" to number 1 because of his overall popularity. "He stopped loving her today" is number 1 on way more list than any other song. Any hardcore country fan knows this song takes the cake. how is Waylon not on this list but Kenny Rogers is?You might as well throw Taylor swift in there while your at it. Kenny was as pop back then as she is today
Sorry I love Cash but I agree with you, Waylon "owned " the 70s and where's Kris!? As for Rogers people forget he was a failed pop singer who's country career flamed out relatively quickly. I'm biased but Waylon gave country it's edge, while Kris gave it maturity ( nobody was singing about sex like he did)
+Tommy Petersen I like cash as well but I personally think "he stopped loving her today" should be #1 for allot of reasons. Like I said I've watched allot of all time top country songs lists and this song is consistently on top. I wish one of Waylon's songs were on here and the only person I could justify disqualifying is Kenny Rogers. All the other songs on the list are legit. Mojo needs to make a top male country artist list. They have a female but I can't find a top male list.
+Derek Rogers I never really thought if Rodgers as a country artist, he just sort of fell into some good songs but once that well dried up he faded. Waylon on the other hand, country, rebel, and trailblazer.
+Derek Rogers 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' has to be the greatest Country Anthem ever penned. Cash deserves to be on the list but not #1. Kristofferson didn't even get a mention!?!?!? 'Loving Her Was Easier' was lived by every man who is a man. I just don't get it. Dixie Chicks, Kenny Rogers ??? it would nearly put me back on the drink just thinking about it. No Buck Owens, DAC, Marty Robbins. Is it just me???
+sledge1960 I am sorry nut Kristofferson never had the voice. Great actor, would see any movie he was ever in. He was only a basic guitarist, and there are many artists that only sing. But he often sings off key and has no strength in his voice. It was only his acting career that ever let him on stage.
Wait a gosh darn minute. Last week you guys did the "Top ten Johnny Cash Songs." and "I Walk the Line" was #1 and "Ring of Fire" was #2. Now ROF is the #1 country song of all time? Did you forget your own list from just last week?
It's called being objective and it boils down to the criteria. Recall we went with Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven in Top 10 Iconic Rock Songs , yet didn't choose that as Led Zep's top song in Top 10 Led Zeppelin Songs . So, we think it works as is for similar reasons. If we're talking what the best Johnny Cash songs are, things that really say who and what Cash is then Walk the Line would have to be the top spot. It's the one that really gave him the career and the sound. If we're talking best country then we Think Ring of Fire does top it. It's more innovative, lively and a bit more modern. We think Walk the Line instantly goes to a certain artist and era, Ring of Fire is more in tune to the shape of the genre.
I understand that there is a difference in theory, but in reality there is very little that can be differentiated between the two and most people won't get that you are making a distinction between a "top ten song" and a top ten iconic song". Its all the same in the minds of your average youtube viewer. Anyhow, I love your top ten lists so keep em coming. And while I have your attention, let me suggests a video. Patsy Cline's "Crazy" is the top jukebox song of all time. It's as good today as it was the day Willie Nelson wrote it. Maybe, just maybe it should be #!.
EVERYONE knows the best country song EVER is "He Stopped Loving Her Today". No doubt about it. I'm 62 and I've heard some GREAT country songs but that seems very clear to me.
Couldnt agree more with you Violet, I adore this song so much. I am 44 but have grown up with country music all my life and the older I get the more and more I appreciate it
Totally agree. Waylon was a fine guitarist, and perhaps one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. Not to mention the effortless majestical vocals.
You have to go back to an older crowd to get the list “ closer “ to being right . Garth Brooks ??? Hank, good for at least 3 songs Loretta, good for 2. George Straight, you might laugh but John Denver, Merle, Buck and Patsy. Country died in the 80s
I have to say: David Allan Coe - You Never Even Call Me By My Name ... is the perfect country and western song. It says so in the lyrics. written by Steve Goodman.
Anything Johnny cash hits a different chord with me, my grandfather was his steel guitarist. So naturally Cash influenced the majority of my upbringing.
Wow your grandfather was Johnny Cash's steel guitarist ! How wonderful ! I grew up listening to Johnny Cash, as my Dad was a big fan, and my siblings and I also became fans. Saw him in concert twice. Love his music.
Some of the honorable mentions should have been moved up... No Hank Jr, No Alabama, maybe even the Judds. Some of the songs on this list never even hit #1 on country charts Best thing about the list no Keith Urban 😂
But Luckenbach Texas is more of a commercial than a song. Willie and Waylon did lots better songs both together and separately. I can definitely think of Waylon songs they could have included but then I'm a Texan so I'm biased.
I think they threw in the Dixie Chicks because they thought they were being edgy. Dixie Chicks are OK but I am not sad that they never really recovered after their political rant. Now political rants are a staple any time people buy tickets.
@@Gunnerb52 dixie chicks: the iraq war was idiotic trump tards: burn them! trump: i was against the iraq war, it was dumb trump tards: that's awesome! cons: just the dumbest least principled people in the world, no way around it
Dixie Chicks don't even belong in the honorable mention list. They're so far removed from the artists on this list that it's pathetic they were even mentioned. These were absolute legends. The only one you left out was Kris Kristofferson and Sunday Morning Coming Down.
Where is John Denver's Take Me Home (Country Roads)? Don't try to say he was a folk singer either, because Mojo's list of top 10 folk artists actually says that Denver didn't make that list because he was considered a country artist. Denver didn't even get an honorable mention, yet the Dixie Chicks did, this list is a joke.
They can keep all tne songs that are already on here, the list should have been longer to add more artist like John Denver, Hank Williams Jr and Conway Twitty.
How can a country boy can survive and you never even called me by my name not even be mentioned, especially when it’s the perfect country and western song lol
kenny rogers' best song will always be Ruby. you painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair. ruby are you contemplating going out somewhere. haunting.
Very few songs in history no matter the genre paints a picture like Ruby. I swear they could do a movie on this song, and the screenwriter would barely have to break a sweat.
"He Stopped Loving Her Today" should be number 1. But, really, country songs should not be ranked; we should just love them all. Everyone's taste is different.
Considering Dolly’s I Will Always Love You being more successful than a few of these at least, it deserves a place on the list. When it goes to #1 for weeks and weeks by two different artists and appears on one of the top 10 albums of all time, that’s pretty impressive.
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry is no doubt the greatest country hit. Leaving it off the list for Your Cheatin Heart is ridiculous. And Folsom County Blues is better than Ring of Fire.
+Steve Hammer I'm weird, my favorite is Luke the Drifter's Ramblin Man. Frizell and West, You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma....reworking of Rocky Top. Fave non-English: DL Menard- The Back Door...and why not Dwight Yoakum instead of Dixie Chicks ?
charlie pride? And johnny cash's best songs isnt here. How about the highwaymen??! Willie is a living legend. And of course Dolly, she was the original " I Will Always Love You" singer, Whitney was good but Dolly is the best.
That song was actually written in the 1940's. Willie did Red Headed Stranger in a garage studio in Garland, TX. The producer wanted to dress it up and Waylon told him as is or F off. The Last Thing I needed the first thing this morning was to have you walk out on me. Now there is a country song.
My Dad was a great singer and played guitar. He played “ played “ He stopped loving her today “ for my mom. He loved Cash. He died in 2005. Made my heart miss him.
@@kylemagaro3163New York is probably more like it. Know it or not, there has been one hell of a lot of great country music come out of California. Waylon Jennings had to lead Nashville out of their nonsense.
John Prine and Goodman wrote that song in a NYC area motel. Goodman got it recorded and Prine thought it was so corny he didn't want credit. I'm sure Goodman cut him in. No doubt in my mind, it could easily be on the list.
This song, will send snowflakes into a frenzy. I have been a fan of DAC since I can remember when. Seen him dozens of times. It is, "The perfect country and western song" Cause I was drunk, the day my mom got out of prison.
Hank would of filled the top best 50 songs. I love Johnny but Sunday morning coming down was and is better then ring of fire, but nothing beats your cheating heart by Hank Sr.
+James Hough I totally agree "Wide Open Spaces" by Dixie Chicks but Okie from Muskogee by Merle Haggard, Don't Cry Joni by Conway Twitty, Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell and many other songs deserving are not even included in this list. What the?
Music taste is subjective after all. You like what you like and I like what I like. I mean I would put Don Williams on the list, yet he didn't even make honorable mentions on this video.
Where is A Country Boy Can Survive? And Ring of Fire isn't the best COUNTRY song! They must've been short a couple good ole boys in the meetin room while makin this list
The fact that they made this list in a meeting room instead of in a bar or on somebody's front porch speaks volumes. City slickers, bless their hearts...
Everyone who grew up with country music knows there are hundreds of great country artists. Unlike today on country radio the same few songs are played to death.
The best thing is this list could be 500 songs and we'd still all be pissed off our favorites weren't on it because there are so many good ones
Most of mine were on here
I was hoping for "class of 57"
Exactly! Country is the best, the lifestyle, the story’s, everything about it is awesome!

You’re right mine was Smokey on your front door by Waylon Jennings
‘Okie from Muskogee’ and ‘Hey Good Lookin’ should also get honorable mention.
Think Marty Robbins should have made the list for sure
John Conlee "Rose Colored Glasses" 1978....Should be on any legit top 10 list.
Gentleman Joe your damn right

... is the perfect country and western song. It says so in the lyrics.
written by Steve Goodman.
I guess nobody here cared to take that ride
0Myles0 Tennessee Whiskey! or his version of Sitting on the Dock of the Bay!!

Anything Johnny cash hits a different chord with me, my grandfather was his steel guitarist. So naturally Cash influenced the majority of my upbringing.

Great song
This song is written by shel silverstein
They don't mention that Willie Nelson wrote the song crazy
These list are by people who don’t listen to country music.
It was also made ten years ago
Terrible…
Some of the honorable mentions should have been moved up...
No Hank Jr, No Alabama, maybe even the Judds. Some of the songs on this list never even hit #1 on country charts
Best thing about the list no Keith Urban 😂
right on! No Keith Kidman Urban.
The first pick is write
Good call no Urban .
Keith Urban and any of the other snap track garbage they have today.
Hell yeah no keith urban but i will keep Hank and Alabama on my top 10
Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain is hard to leave out!
My personal favorite tooooooo ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My favorite
"Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" is an old, old song. It was out long before Willie recorded it.
Luckenbach Texas? Really no Waylon but you mention the Dixie Chicks
And Waylon was mentioned.

For sure!!!!
Amen
Perfectly put!
Gene Mars Is that all?

Dixie Chicks don't even belong in the honorable mention list. They're so far removed from the artists on this list that it's pathetic they were even mentioned. These were absolute legends. The only one you left out was Kris Kristofferson and Sunday Morning Coming Down.
Some Broken Hearts Never Mend - Don Williams. Classic.
Don is underrated.
@@the_illegitimate_jedi3479 Agreed, that song is in my head at least once a week.
A good song but nowhere near the top10. Not ever close. Johnny Cash had a top 10 list and every one was better than anything Don Williams ever did.
Agree
Where is John Denver's Take Me Home (Country Roads)? Don't try to say he was a folk singer either, because Mojo's list of top 10 folk artists actually says that Denver didn't make that list because he was considered a country artist. Denver didn't even get an honorable mention, yet the Dixie Chicks did, this list is a joke.
cunard61 Gareth brooks doesn't belong here, sellout wannabe country singer in my book
Totally agree with you
I'm mad as well
And why does Willie Nelson have like 3
They can keep all tne songs that are already on here, the list should have been longer to add more artist like John Denver, Hank Williams Jr and Conway Twitty.

Considering Dolly’s I Will Always Love You being more successful than a few of these at least, it deserves a place on the list. When it goes to #1 for weeks and weeks by two different artists and appears on one of the top 10 albums of all time, that’s pretty impressive.
It's more of a ballad, sang by a country singer... But not really a country song.

Dolly Parton's "I'll always love you" Number 1 three times by three different artists.

Willie Nelson - Blue eyes crying in the rain

Fuck Willie for supporting Beto!
Pat Hartzell I hate Beto but that’s my boi Willie... that hurt...
You have warm memories of him. He sounds like he was a good man.
