  • Why I bought the Lucid Air - • Why I bought the Lucid...
    Meet my new daily driver, the Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance, with over 1,111 horsepower! Unlike many online reviews on this car, I have spent several weeks in it, logged several thousand miles behind the wheel, hauled my family around town, and experienced things that only owners and long-term reviewers will encounter. So today, I'm sharing an owner's review of the Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance, going over the good, the bad, and the ugly!

    I saw a Lucid Air when I was in LA and it really caught my eye. I am looking to get a new car and I have made up my mind to move to an EV. The Lucid Air (The longer range version) is number one on my list. I'm glad I watched this video since it's from an owners perspective and not just from a car reviewer's perspective. When I buy my next car, it's definitely going to be an EV and I'm 99.99% sure I'll get the Lucid Air, if it does not have any competitors with the same build quality and range (a major thing for me since I am moving from gas to EV).

    • @Dream7773

      Best of wishes. I'm currently trying to work for Lucid. Trying to get in has been difficult. They are planning on ramping up production and people are on the wait-list for their EV's. So I'm thinking it'll be easier to put yourself on the wait-list now instead of later.

    In the luxury space, I found that as long as the service network gives me the impression they wanna make it right, and do so at a reasonable price, I'm happy with that. Machines break, but right now I actually enjoy seeing my Audi dealership every 6 months or so. Been going there for 5 years. We have a relationship. Hopefully Lucid is able to bring that to the table, because that's what they're competing with.

      Yeah he probably wouldn’t call people with lower trims or once more of these hit the road but I would like to think or hope, (because I don’t like Tesla and love what lucid is doing and want them to succeed) that he is at least calling or emailing other owners if they have issues. He’s the CEO of a new company that has started off by selling the most expensive trims first, so the type of people buying these cars are probably people he knows, maybe network with or just aren’t people you want to be on bad terms with. If he only contacted John because of his platform but not the others (if they had issues), that would be a mistake on his part imo because now is the time to do it while it’s manageable

      I have a database of over 350 EVs and their specs.
      The best value Lucid is the Air Pure RWD. And then, it’s the Air Touring - that would probably be the one I would get depending on how much the price is for a Pure AWD.
      However, the Air Touring doesn’t come with a glass roof standard; that’s an extra 4K. Not gonna lie; I love glass roofs. Probably worth the upgrade money.

    • @johnbuscher
      @johnbuscher 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blazetechstudios When you’re at that budget level, for sure. If this was even a $40k, adding 10% of the price for a glass roof seems less worth it. When you’re at 5% or less, it just doesn’t seem that far away.
      That said, I’m pretty intrigued by the Air Pure. Seems like the Model S competitor the middle class person might be able to afford, and if it really does get about 400 miles on a total charge, this is fantastic.

      @@johnbuscher Yeah, I agree. If I have 100k to spend, I'm not going to be worried about 4k. Of course, I don't and to be honest I wouldn't spend it if I did. If I had 100k, I'd probably buy real estate.
      The specs for Air Pure are actually a rival to the Model 3; the Model S blows it away in every category. The Model 3 is still a better overall value, even with these Tesla inflation prices. But, the comfort and preference is a huge difference here. I would want an AWD version though; they haven't announced how much that will be yet.

    Brilliant and amazing review, Jon! Really thorough and balanced overview of everything that a prospective owner would want to know about the Lucid Air, including positives and negatives. I was looking at both the Tesla Model S LR and the Lucid Air Touring (which was the price range that worked for me) and finally decided on the Tesla Model S LR -- the main factors behind that decision were Tesla's charging network, larger rear storage space (due to the hatchback design & folding seats) and the minimalist ambience of the car. That does not detract at all from the Lucid Air, which is a great car in its own right. Hope you have a fantastic ownership experience with the Lucid!

    Man. Really like this review. thoroughly appreciate you acknowledging "they might've been treating me special". The thoroughness is great.
    It's funny that this is the same in the car industry, though it makes sense since the EV companies are largely tech companies. Sara said it recently, but being able to regularly update, these companies are releasing incomplete software! So the car is amazing with all the hardware it needs, but your left with not having access to all the needed features. Overall the car seems really great and everything I thought it'd be.

      Consider that the Air was the better part of a year late from the initial delivery target. Some people had been waiting for a very long time for cars they had reserved. Waiting for software to be really finally 'finished' is a futile task.

    If I were in position to buy an electric car the Lucid Air is the only one I would aspire to. I think they are amazing and so good looking. They make the models from Tesla look like poorly assembled Lego.

    In the past with low technology ice cars it was not much of a risk. If the company goes belly up your could get a collector vehicle. Many parts could be replicated if need be. Lucid on the other hand stuffed with unique low production electronics with required software support. If Lucid goes under, it may become a piece of the furniture.

    That said, there was one inaccuracy with the CoD. The Lucid Air has a .21 Cd, Tesla Model S now has a .208 Cd, and the melted soap bar looking Mercedes EQS is most aerodynamic at .200. That would make it the third most slippery car on the market behind Tesla and Mercedes.

    • @JDTechTV
      @JDTechTV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lucid doesn’t measure to that decimal point. Tesla didn’t either…until Lucid and Mercedes came out with a 0.21 car. Tesla also doesn’t state openly which configuration of the Model S has that 0.208 coefficient, as it’s not every new Model S. Only one specific kind. Lucid is 0.21 across the line.
      Also worth noting, 0.208 rounds up to 0.21. Lucid and Mercedes are 0.21. The Model S is 0.208 with a heavy caveat. Regardless, we live in fun times where it’s wild to think any car got to that CoD. 👍🏻

      @orion8829 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Somehow, one of my favorite things about this video, is that it subtly prefaced that it's more of an enthusiast experience, taken on by a genuine automobile and tech enthusiast.
    Which I can really relate to, and I think blends really well into an objective analysis, because there's more of a middle-way, regarding expectations vs compromise. And that's what any car enthusiast is all about. The whole of the experience, is greater than the sum of it's parts, in a non-linear way.
    I think you definitely sold a Lucid or two with this vid lol, but by managing expectations, which is great.
    Anyway, nice job. Good video 👍

    One major question: Does the lucid loose 1/3-1/2 of its mileage expected when you need the heater in temps less than 40 degrees? My neighbors 2019 model 3 starts out saying 347 miles range, 15 minutes of driving in 30 degrees f drops that to 155. That’s a serious problem that is not being addressed. Tesla says nothing is wrong with the car. They actually suggested that he buy a 22 with a more efficient heater…. Nonsense, their solution was to buy a 70,000$ car.

    First class review, thank you. I really appreciate that you own the vehicle and have spent several weeks actually real world driving it before making a very well balanced video. Frequently automotive journalists (or what passes as journalism in 2022) misses the mark because they focus on what a car isn't, instead of what it is then they build a ridiculous narrative around the negative even something as ridiculous as a frunk. The fact that you don't engage in broken tile syndrome is a huge plus in my book, because this car represents years of hard work by thousands of people who stayed determined to a vision of excellence and it needed to be honored. I'm a huge EV enthusiast and daily drive the tires off mine with a never ending smile, but If I had a $180G car budget, I may have chosen the Porsche Taycan because they really, really have it dialed in with a beautiful interior along with a very aggressive and distinctive exterior and an extensive dealer network. Undoubtedly, this is just the beginning of something really exciting for Lucid.
