I got to test drive the Grand Touring. It was so nice! The ride and handling felt really good. My only real complaints were the old BMW style tune signals (where they don’t stay in place after you press them which I found very annoying) and the lack of smoothness in the regenerative braking. I like how strong the regenerative braking but I think it should have a smoother initial slowdown. But, I’m sure it’s something you can get used to. It is missing a lot of the novelties from the new i7 and the S-class so I can’t help but think that this car is the ultimate E-class or 5-series.

You omitted my version of the Air, the GT- Performance with 1050 HP advertised, 1111 HP per the window sticker. Amazing car, lots of fun to drive, easy to live with.
Such a beautiful car IMO. Reminds me of what a modern Mercury Sable would look today if it followed the design language of its original 1985 model, which was a stunning design for its time.
Great review of an interesting car! Have seen several on the road in S. FL and they really stand out in traffic with their beautiful design. Unlike big Teslas, the Lucid Air has an interior befitting a luxury vehicle. Oh, and all of the Air sedans I've seen had very good panel fits and exterior finish - no small thing for six figure asking prices. This is an amazing vehicle - and is even more amazing when you consider it is the first effort from these folks.
Who remembers GM’s 90s Saturns or Oldsmobiles Aurora luxury sedan? Well, the design aesthetics of this car reminds me of a more modern, expensive version of the two. I saw one the other day in person. My opinion about the look of this car hasn’t changed.
Lovely interior. 400 - 500 mile range is definitely knocking on the door of real World practicality. Absolutely agree with the recommendation to reduce complexity - it’s off putting to me. But I guess to attract a wealthy So-Cal couple with 6 figures to blow on a virtue statement, it has to be festooned with shiny baubles.

Glad to see everything else executed to such a high level that awaits a UI that matches in quality, speed and performance delivery. 20:32
I think it's great looking. But I can only imagine when a rock chips and cracks that 'windshield that goes to the B-pillars" is gonna cost. Your insurer is gonna love you for it.
Nice looking car, saw one few months ago in Tahoe. Still I’d take the Tesla plaid because it’s cheaper and pretty much a better charging network. $154k way too expensive.
At this price point, it doesn’t exactly appeal to the masses. Which is fine and all to an extent; however, had they released an SUV first, think about the potential price point on that compared to the Air - sounds insanely expensive to me. Even less market appeal/access, and subsequently fewer sales and less market exposure. Low sales can be tough on a start-up (aka those folks buying up all that stock 😉). Great review as always, MotoMan!
I almost bought one but Saudi ownership was a deal killer for me. Shame as it is a brilliant car. Nice that they offer a standard metal roof now. I wonder if insurance companies are pricing in replacing the whole roof when you get a stone crack on the windshield.
@@Hmmm313 Porsche sold 3X and Rivian 8X. I have to believe the Saudi connection is a factor as the cars are not that far apart even with different missions. How the hell do modern cars get past safety checks when everything you used to control using muscle memory and your hand is now hidden 5 menus deep in a screen demanding you take your eye off the road - an accident waiting to happen.
You asked the wrong question (3:45): it's not "why didn't they make an SUV?", but rather "why didn't they make a hatchback?" One of the worst problems about regular sedans that makes them unappealing to most buyers is the standard trunk, which is very impractical for most people. Also, I'd like to see that frunk space used to hold a full-size spare wheel/tire -- the whole point of having long-range batteries being long road trips where you might be really stuck with a flat tire if no spare. For a Nissan Leaf, which you'd ostensibly only drive close to home, you would never need a spare wheel/tire, but in the Lucid, it should be at least an option (if not standard).
I spoke to one of the designers a few years ago about that when they were showing the prototype in Carmel-by-the-sea at Car Week. He said that hatch backs are more noisy, and they wanted this car to be more luxurious. He also told me it would be much better than Tesla and much cheaper. haha
I'm worried the "efficiency" war is going to kill one pedal driving. As someone who loathes the feeling of driving automatic transmissions in gas cars, good one pedal driving (see: Chevrolet Bolt) is a must for me in any EV, so that it doesn't feel like an automatic. Any EV which drives itself forward when you take your foot off the brake (fake transmission creep) is instantly unacceptable in my book.

Nice car, I don’t care for it. My Plaid is miles ahead of everything except that Limo feel (leather, fancy stuff not related to my driving experience). Big 17” screen, rear hatchback is so nice, easy to use controls, stereo is amazing, clean interior, air ride suspension that I can choose my ride, traction control options ( automaticaly raises when needed with memory), Software is so nice, (free updates. Too much nice stuff to list. Now the negative: fit isn’t perfect (close enough for me). Back seat isn’t limo size like 750 BMW. (I don’t sit back there, so I don’t want it. Also blind spot right front for parking near curbs. Car is dated, but that is why I love it. American cars failed because they never figured out Elon’s success formula. Tesla Superchargers so nice! This car.. Who is gonna buy it..?? At that price point.?? How many did they produce?? Are they profitable?? Lucid is gonna have a hard time making any profit with this car.
The steering wheel is ugly, the dash is too plain, and the car's too expensive. By about $50,000. That's why they're not selling as many as they would like.
160k to get an electric vehicle that finally gets 500 miles(maybe)on a charge? No thanks.I'll stay with the 120 plus years combustion vehicles and all their established ancillaries.
the ground clearance of this car not good for new york at all, i have seen it in front of me driving and i was like this is not good ground clearance at all, as a matter of fact most of these ev's do not have good ground clearance especially when u know the skateboard style battery pack is sitting right at the bottom dead centre!!!! one more thing i really don't like is the dry weight of these ev's is just insane compare to their gasoline powered sized cars. not good.
The Lucid is what Tesla wishes it could be. From the standpoint of build quality and fit and finish. Sure, Lucid will have to tweak some shortcomings after the first few models years, but it’s so much better looking than the bland Tesla. Not to mention the interior of the Tesla makes you want to be Stevie Wonder 😎
If I was in the market for an electric vehicle, I would purchase a Tesla because of the charging network. I am 56 years old, so I will not purchase an electric vehicle before I pass away.
Lucid is struggling, the stock is a third of what it was a year ago, and really need the influx of capital, Apple has been toying with getting in to the automotive world and missed their opportunity of buying out Tesla, this would be a perfect opportunity for Apple and make a play for them
What happens when this company that can't even get to half of the projected cars completed and lost $750M last year, doesn't get more funding? These are complex cars that will need complex servicing (software primarily). Do these become $100k+ paperweights? I wouldn't want to be holding the bag.

@@vickykennel7414 sure, but you miss the point: the reason for a long-range battery and low coefficient of drag (< 0.2) is to drive long distances...
I spoke to one of the designers a few years ago about that when they were showing the prototype in Carmel-by-the-sea at Car Week. He said that hatch backs are more noisy, and they wanted this car to be more luxurious. He also told me it would be much better than Tesla and much cheaper. haha
Excellent review. I’ve considered getting one, but not until they fix those issues. I’m not spending $150,000 and finding I don’t have Apple car play.
Why is no one buying these cars? Lucid is making barely any cars and still making more than they can sell.
Only 6 kWh less, what's the point?
I believe you can now get apple play.
👍
I just can't get over how huge the panel gaps are on this car! Unacceptable for this price point.
164K ???!!! And does not even have apple car play and non working Bluetooth???? That’s crap
This-is-the all new reincarnated 1990 toyota Celica. 😅
What's the point of making a beautiful car that no one can buy?
Once up-on a time, Padmé was on a Formular 1 circit, but unfortunatly, she becaum a vicktum of Mad Max. She tryd to escaip on Ruot 666 in a 2000 hp Supra, bekaws she herd it was the fastist car arownd. The earf was gettting hottrr and hottrr, and she new she had to leave befor it was too late.
As she was driving, she met a 95-year-old Telsa invister who was ridiing in a self-drayving car. He was verry ritch and offored to mary her so she could inherit his fortune when he dies. Padmé thoht it was a good idea and agried to marry him.
But even tho she was maryed to a ritch man, she stil had feelins for a Chad who was moor interested in his poster of a Lucid Air than her. She was disapointed that he wouldn't commit to her and wanted to be with the poster instead.
In the end, Padmé was happy with her ritch husband and they livd happily evr after.
If got bunch of bear logos if I drive this in West Hollywood bunch of bearded dudes will think it’s special Uber
Stereotypically 'start-up'; lots of good innovation and choice, mixed with some basic shortfalls. Not currently available In Oz. Probably overpriced given its shortfalls. But desrving of constructive criticism, not trolling.
They keep making $100k EVs
Please let me know when the tech is fixed!!!!
Too bad they can’t sell many of them. There’s not much of a market for luxury EV sedans.
(I watch Netflix while charging , but charging is too fast and can’t finish my movie. Oh and no car is faster, so much fun, my grand kids love it!
lucid air comentários 152
This car.. Who is gonna buy it..?? At that price point.?? How many did they produce?? Are they profitable?? Lucid is gonna have a hard time making any profit with this car.
Tesla is rolling out the magic box so non Tesla cars can now charge. Already available at select Superchargers in NY...
I personally don’t need my cars to be smart phones
Certainly looks "the cost"
The steering wheel is ugly, the dash is too plain, and the car's too expensive. By about $50,000. That's why they're not selling as many as they would like.
160k to get an electric vehicle that finally gets 500 miles(maybe)on a charge? No thanks.I'll stay with the 120 plus years combustion vehicles and all their established ancillaries.
the ground clearance of this car not good for new york at all,
i have seen it in front of me driving and i was like this is not good ground clearance at all,
as a matter of fact most of these ev's do not have good ground clearance especially when u know the skateboard style battery pack is sitting right at the bottom dead centre!!!!
one more thing i really don't like is the dry weight of these ev's is just insane compare to their gasoline powered sized cars.
not good.
Great car, but for rich people only
The Lucid is what Tesla wishes it could be.
Might be the only good looking ev
Waaaayyy too "California" for me. I prefer my 800+ hp sedan in AMG GT63S form.
@@vickykennel7414no EV would classify as “best car” to me and I owned a Taycan. They could build the ideal car but unless they can sell them / build them and prove they are financially solvent and can support them, it’s a gamble to buy one.
Looks like an old Camry… No Thanks 😢
