Hello! I followed your instructions to a T but when I go to use OBS or streamyard and want to add my zv1 camera as a capture device. The option is no where to be seen. My Mac is just allowing me to use my Mac camera but not giving me the option to select my zv1 camera. Help please?

I would go through and make sure you have pc remote on and control with smart phone off. If that doesn’t work recheck the setting changes I made. If it’s not that then I’m not quite sure with out looking at it

Can you lower the filming position of your SonyZV1 by the software or in the setting of the camera? BEcause I intend to put the camera above the screen of my laptop .. and want to make sure that my face is in the middle then? Because this is something that you can do with the logitech brio software for instance ...
Should be able to plug the cameras micro usb cable straight to your laptop and import the files. In your settings make sure under “usb settings” you have it as “mass storage” otherwise I would get a dedicated SD card reader that you can plug into your computer
Maybe obs won’t work with Sony imaging? Another option is that Sony just updated the firmware on the Sony zv1 like a couple of weeks ago that give the camera a “streaming” mode in the menu so then it’s just plug and play and Sony imaging isn’t needed.

still having problems with the making sony zv-1 work with zoom, streamyard etc. sad although it wasn't mentioned clearly that the camera comes with a micro USB to USB small cable. it's the cable that i only use. i still have to try the HDMI option
I bought a longer micro usb for mine. Not sure what happening with your set up. There must be like one thing that has to change to get working. Mine works with streamyards and zoom
I did all of these steps, yet when I hook it up on Streamyard it shows "imaging edge webcam" on my Mac rather than what my camera is actually showing. Any tips?
Im having trouble finding if the usb port is the only option. I just got a mini HDMI to HDMI cable for the ZV1 and havent found any info about how to set it up for stream that way. So far OBS sees the camera but no image is showing up and the ZV1 still says connect a USB cable when the mini HDMI cable is plugged in.
That camera should have a setting in the camera called usb streaming and when you select it all you need to do is plug it in to your computer where it just plugs via usb c and should just work

Great video ... but unfortunately is doesn't work with my mac. Maybe because I am using Mac OS 15 (sequoia). So perhaps the drivers are not updated to work with the newest OS. Or maybe because I'm connecting to my Mac via a hub. Still, you did a great job explaining how to set this up.

hey so I got my ZV1 cam and Final Cut Pro, and altho the cam does come up when I connect with usb, I does NOT create an image or live feed, in other words, when I click import, and then zv1, it does not show a picture, what am I doing wrong ?

(does this on all 3 of my batteries, so I’m sure it’s not the battery) - I use it for zoom calls it dies in about 20 minutes of usage. The footage is also set to 1080 NOT 4k… any ideas to trouble shoot man?

I was so excited to make this work for me, but sadly it didn't because my mac has the M1 chip or (Apple Silicon) which is not supported by Sony at this time. I can't use my Canon M50 with this mac either because it uses Big Sur. Argh. I had to give you a thumbs up and subscribe though because this was an awesome tutorial.

The one I have is a 2020 MacBook Pro with all the add ons. I don’t really use it for editing or anything but I think the new MacBooks with the m1 chip is really good and less expensive then the one I have.
In the firmware update they put out on the zv1 it will have a new section called “usb streaming” on the menu and once you turn it on and plug it in it should work. You won’t need to use the Sony imaging edge app anymore

This is one of the best tutorials I enjoyed watching. I have a question though. I am considering to recommend this to my university professor who is going to be live for 8 hours twice a week. Sessions are about 75-90 mins long and there are 30-60 mins breaks in between those sessions. Do you think there will be any heat or battery problems? Thanks
I’ve never used the camera in a stream that long but I know it doesn’t have any issues with overheating in 4K so I’d guess that in 720 or 1080 (which is what it would stream in) you wouldn’t have any issues. It also should power off of usb if you have that selected in the menu
I had hoped that the latest v2.01 firmware for the ZV-1 would make additional software or hardware unnecessary but Sony's download page says it only supports Mac Os 10.14 and later. Has anyone tried it with Os 10.13 (High Sierra)?
I have the ZV-1, I got it mostly because I wanted a better product that had impressive imaging. I use it with a new mac mini M1 2020. However, I have noticed many issues with the USB keeping the camera charged and functional during important zoom meetings. I just downloaded this software again in hopes that I needed an update. So far, disappointed with the issues I am experiencing during long meetings, even though its plugged in.
Do you have the “usb power supply” turned to on in the menu? That should allow the camera to be powered by the computer. At least that’s how mine has been working

Great content! Got the ZV1 to add to my Twitch streaming setup. Are you sure you can achieve continuous power via USB with a MacBook Pro? My battery appears to be draining slowly (2-3 hours of USB streaming). Ordered a dummy battery to get over this hump.
Well I guess mine seemed to stay on for quite awhile. But I guess maybe it just adds to battery life. I’ll have to take another look at it. I know Sony just updated the firmware on the zv1 to make it a plug and play with out the Sony edge app so maybe that changed something as well

Make sure “control with smart phone” is off and “pc remote” is turned on
@@KyleWattsTV I double checked and the "control with smart phone" is in fact off and the "pc remote" is in fact on.
Change the cable you're using, that could be why. There's a possibility that your camera doesn't recognize the cable you're currently using.
Can you add badge name or logo using the camera?

Yes you can change the output but I usually use 1080 30p. 4k can struggle on streaming unless you have a strong internet speeds

Is the cable supplied in the ZV1 box?
They do give you a USB cable for the camera but you might need a longer one depending on where you put your camera

I don’t think it will. I believe you have to turn in the camera after the computer is on

Hey Kyle! What would you recommend my Sony ZV1 keeps over heating when using it as a webcam on zoom calls ( and keeps getting the over heating symbol)
There’s a setting in The menu where you can turn the temp to high and it should stop the overheating issue

When I plug my camera into my MacBook Air it does not recognize it. It was just working a couple days ago.

I haven’t had this happen with mine yet. Haven’t used it to live stream since I did the new firmware yet though so maybe it’s from that?

It seems that it doesn't work on my m1 Mac mini. My computer can't detect the camera while I'm using Zoom or facetime.
