      I've been listening to Tool since the 90's and have really delved into the meanings behind their lyrics, but that comment blew my mind! Sir you've opened my mind to deeper and deeper levels of understanding here and I am honored. "To remove the shadow you'd have to remove the source of light itself..." thank you thank you thank you! it amazes me how deep their commentary is despite not knowing the language nor being apart of the same culture. I've watched many young American 'reactors' who have absolutely nothing of substance to say. Just "this song was good" or "i like this a lot." As an autistic person (a long time Tool fan, and someone with a big interest in psychology) this was an extremely interesting video for me. Because of my autism, I am unable to read people and understand the emotions they're expressing. So while I have my own emotions while listening to the music, I wouldn't understand the emotions in the performance. So seeing these gentleman, who grew up and live in a completely differnet environment than I do, and not understanding the lyrics as they hear it, analyzing and understanding the song and performance was extremely beautiful to see. They are all so well spoken and philosphical. Thank you for showing them, and sharing their input with us ❤

    • @streghewitch77
      @streghewitch77 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      That's the biggest reason that I've been watching for so long. I double majored in psychology and sociology so my interest in watching people is always coming from a psychological viewpoint. I can never get over how well they are able to interpret the meanings of these songs without knowing the lyrics. It's a beautiful thing that music can truly cross all boundaries including language and societal norms

    • @Capnsensible80
      @Capnsensible80 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      We all can bring our own perspectives that others may not be able to see by themselves. As much as you appreciate their interpretations, I'm sure you'd have your own unique insights that someone like me may not be able to glean. Art really is a great medium to allow us to come closer to understanding each other as long as we are open to it.

    This is my favorite band, and a really great song. I loved watching them react to the song and analyze the lyrics and the performance. The artists of Tool have long refused to elaborate on the meanings of their songs because they want you to interpret it yourself. So the way they engaged with it and delved into meanings was great. I think it's a tribute to the art if it intrigues you and compels you enough to think about its meanings. Loved the video!

    I am so happy all of you got to experience Tool! This is my favorite band because the way they make music is so different than anything else out there. Maynard makes sure his voice isn't the main show, he literally uses it as another instrument in the band. They write the music before the lyrics. And the lyrics, wow. Maynard has a wonderful way with words. They are so deep and creative and thought provoking. The band also uses different time signatures than other music as well. Tool is something different and special. I am so happy my favorite Tribal people get to hear my favorite band.

    I've loved TOOL since 1991, and I am soo glad you guys did a song by them, I find the interpretations insightful and accurate to my views on this song.
    Peace be with you.

    I really enjoyed the format of the video and was impressed with how easily the folks picked up on things about the artist/song given the language challenges.

    I love these Tool reactions, keep them coming :) Great work, I love to see the angle, that your guests see these songs from :) Also, I wonder, after seeing this performance and understanding how deep Maynard is with his lyrics, energy and performance, do they still think a more upbeat singer such as Michael Jackson would be better suited to the band? :)

    This analysis is incredibly fun to listen to (read, in my case) - yes, this is why I watch first-time reactions to musicians I love. Abdul (the guy with the great beard? if I have his name remembered correctly) has some great quotes to relay when he provides his analysis. He did in the previous video I watched too.
    I think that was his name - I can't quite find it by seeking, but I'm pretty sure the man with the glorious beard is Abdul? yes Tool's music IS like a lesson to his millions upon millions of fans - even those who can't get past the same demons. In fact, I can attest many of those people who are still lost in their addictions find his music perhaps MORE profound. Tool is quite a profound band, in many ways, not just the lyrics. I'm happy to see these guys recognize that - now that I've watched several videos I am really loving the thought they put into their analyses.
    Tool is one of the bands that - not due to the message as much as the wonderful sounds - helped me out of my dependencies. At that time in my life, it provided me with a joy that I don't NEED to distance myself from - Music. I still listen to all of Tool's music today. In fact, my current employment allows me to listen to music all I want through the day, in my car. The lights in our lives we never need a reason to replace, the ones that don't also cause us harm, are the ones that sustain us.
    I know music, and Tool being one of the primary bands I listened to, certainly helped remove me from so many of my troubles, even if just temporarily, it was a positive influence and I'll never forget it - even if I go deaf, you can guess what I will be hearing inside my own head.
    Great video again you guys - keep up the good work, I had no choice but to subscribe.

    I love seeing how some things can transcend cultures. Tool is certainly one of the most talented groups of our time.
    I appreciate this channel very much for giving me an insight to people who I will never meet in person. So much of the news is about hate and war between our two parts of the world and it is so tragic and sad. I imagine many of our core values are likely the same. I wish I could have one if not all of these men as a neighbor (I might need a translator though).

    The apparently I will watch anyone do a reaction video about tool, but these guys are by far the most interesting. Listen to them takes me back and makes me remember why tool is so influential in my musical upbringing. They definitely have a more poetic disposition when describing the lyrics and their presentation

    Thank you for bringing these gentlemen and showing the world what your way of thinking is, they are all very wise, an affectionate greeting to them and my respects.
    Maybe later, in some videos, you will also like to see and listen to music from Brazil, since it is very different and particular. Or also folklore from Argentina.

    Hello sir, I am a longtime fan of your videos and diehard fan of TOOL. It is fascinating to see these gentlemen’s reactions to the previous video for Pneuma as well as this one- and I humbly ask you to please make a video of them reacting to the songs “Disposition” and “Reflection” as they have always struck a chord in me being a descent of South Asian culture born and raised in America. I am curious of how’d they’d react to the use of the tabla in “Disposition”and the very primal sensation I pick up when listening to “Reflection.” Thank you again for these videos.

    The fact that these wise men can find the deeper meaning of songs shows how in tune they are with emotions and understanding of human behavior. They've opened my eyes as to how wise these elders can be.

    Was a pretty big Tool fan growing up and never saw any live footage back then thanks to no TH-cam etc. An impressive live performance, but not nuanced enough I think for the elders to properly get into and enjoy. I think more instrumental stuff would be good to see, highly recommend Rush's Xanadu live - I think the guys would be blown away by the talent on top of Geddy lee's incredibly high voice! Great video!
