Siena you have been going thru grandma's video closet. You have had some time to watch, listen and learn. Its so fun and thank you for subscribing. Remember grandma loves you, you matter here, you are needed and loved. Grandma prays for each of her subscribers always. Heavenly Father has heard so many prayers. Daily, hourly, minute by minute you are blessed, protected and loved by Grandma and Heavenly Father. Thank you again. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
My next videos will involve defining myself, a sober one, then excitedly moving towards Grandma shearing a sheep for you all. This is an opener with videos on the weaving loom, rugs, carding and spinning dowel with weaving accessories. Its getting exciting to learn more about Dine' textile. Please watch and learn. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Yes, and the jewelry just makes my eyes bulge out sometimes at the amazing talents and creations are fabulous. I could spend a cool billion in a blink. But I will not. Just talking. Glad you love this as much as I do to. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Oh Navajo Grandma, your silver and turquoise are exquisite and beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing and of course for being my Navajo grandma. I am 62 and all of my elders have passed on. Somedays I wake up and realize how alone I am. Your videos are a blessing in my day, thank you. Your family is a joy to watch, I like the sign boards so I can follow along and I may eventually be able to say a few words in Navajo. I can tell people that my “grandma” taught them to me. Thank you so much...
Thank you for telling of "2 kinds of silver." I've not heard such mentioned before and will be on alert. Collection is beautiful! Peace to You and Yours🌻
Thank you for your reply, Grandma. You have inspired me to learn the Dine' way. Keep the videos coming, so encouraging. I love your notes that you hand write. Nizhonii
Oh, Grandma you are a lovely woman, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I am Chumash and shells are our blessing jewelry however I am drawn to Turquoise and Silver, so I am busy learning, and you have given me a good education.
Grandma, I can watch you all day! I like to make jewelry. That’s how I found you. I’m older than you, and my grandmas are gone, but I always loved things that I learned from them, (like stories, and cooking and their ideas about things). I wish I learned more when they were here with me. I really enjoy the information that you share! Love you, grandma. Diana in NJ
Hello NJ! Thank you for sharing your hobbies Diana. I hope you have found that my videos are a fun watch and learning about our Dine' way of life, traditions and culture. I hope you have subscribed. Please enjoy and continue commenting. I love to read your comments and I always answer them myself no matter how many. Hugs from Navajo Grandma. I love you back!!
Aww. Thanks. I really don’t know that I’m older than you, but you look great...so. lol I enjoyed your video about genealogy records. I knew my grandparents (they were born in the mid 1800s) and my grandma told me about her parents and grandparents. My parents were born in the early 1900s. They had some interesting uses of herbs and plants, as well as what many people would consider superstitions. I’m happy that I got to write down a lot of their recipes. I just wish I could have learned more when I was young. That’s as much as I know about my ancestors. So I love to hear traditional knowledge. I’ll be looking forward to seeing more of your videos! xoxo Diana
@@NavajoGrandma ...I enjoyed your video very much and I shared it with my sister, too. I am trying to learn some Navajo words and greetings, and I meant to write: "shima". I corrected it. I apologize for my spelling error, and I'm glad you understood my intention. Hágoónee'
@@diamonddavemusic I loved reading your comment again as it brought me such Hozho, goodness with such loving respect. The next video I will have the Navajo worlds for this video so you can learn to say some. Keep it simple and keep learning. I am so proud of you and you being so receptive. You are wonderful!! Axhehee. Loves and hugs from Navajo Grandma
Miigwetch Grandma! I have been wearing turquoise since I was a young girl. I get a new piece each time I go to a big Pow Wow in the U.P. of MI. I also have 3 stunning porcupine quill & beaded barrettes. You're funny! I love your stories.I love you! Snowfeather
So, so cool. I love Turquoise more than any other kind of jewelry. My oldest daughter, too. It’s her birth stone. ❤️❤️❤️❤️. The Grinch. Lol. Grinch be gone. Love, love, love this story.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. I DO know, the oil from our own skin, naturally shine our Silver jewelry. Stunning collection of Jewelry, Dear Grandma.Wow!. SO many precious stones (treasures) IN Mother Earth....
This I will never forget... 'Grandma's jewelry sniff test'! Ha! Thank YOU, 'Grandma'! I am so grateful for you! I have some of my Granny's turquoise and silver Diné jewelry that I treasure AND wear... I am thankful for your teaching me more about it! Love and great blessings to you!
Its serious and real as I know it sounds silly but that's grandma. I am persnickety about what I wear and yes, but I am not the only one. Here in the Southwest there are men and women you see discreetly doing things like this when money is on the line and even our likes. But sometimes our eyeballs get the best of us and we end up with cheap nickel to our regrets. No more. Now go and sniff out your real silver jewelry. And be sure to remember grandma and smile. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Yes, my Grandma is beautiful inside and out. Love the video on sniffing nickel silver jewelry. Bought jewelry and now I know how to tell the difference. Lotsa of love from Albuquerque, NM
It's an honor and pleasure hearing your knowledge and seen other natives like me I am Comanche on my mother's side and Pueblo Indian and Hispanic on my father's even though I did not grow up around a lot of stuff from native Americans it's still in my heart and having somebody with a lot of knowledge like you do it pleases me to see everything that you're doing thank you and God bless you and your whole family
Victor what kind words of hozho to grandma. I love that you know who you are and what you know you need to learn watching grandma's teachings. Kick off your boots, stay a while and learn and enjoy. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I grew up in Ruidoso, NM. Silver and turquoise are my choice of jewelry. Great presentation. Love your squash blossoms. Beautiful. Thank you grandma. Love your program.
Wow... Turquoise is absolutely the stone that resonates with my spirit... Everything about it is what I feel and need inside especially for healing and tranquility purposes... I wish I could be blessed with one beautiful necklace... I've always loved silver better than gold!
You just took the exact words out of my mouth. Silver is better than gold to me as well. I use to hate wearing turquoise and I have only had silver, but as I have come to own my traditions and culture this turquoise has become more meaningful. That is how I have come to appreciate it. It is beautiful and warming to me. Go try some necklaces or squash blossoms on, my Mom always said, try on what you want and one day it will be yours. And so true was her saying. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Why thank you for your kind words and thank you so much for subscribing. I never knew what all that meant but now I do. Appreciate your time to watch and learn. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
My biological Father was Navajo. I have very little information about him. Your videos speak to my heart and fill a empty space I have had since birth. Thank you for all the information that you provide. Us lost children are listening and working diligently to come home.
Keep watching and learning, remember I am just Grandma teaching you what I was taught by my Nali and Bizhi. I pray it will help you along your way finding yourself and culture. Thank you for being teachable. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I am making my own turquoise necklace right now, and I have strung beads most of my life. I have incredible respect for Navajo silversmiths and jewelry makers. They put so much honzho into their work. It is amazing how they learned from the Spanish and Mexicans and then made such exquisite jewelry to reflect their own spiritual beliefs. I am in awe.
Jan you are a Jack of All Trades woman. Wow what can't you do. So proud of you and your abilities and thank you for sharing. Happy thoughts. Navajo Grandma
Well thank goodness these are in our family and bringing all of them together for this video. I am grateful for your appreciation, glad you enjoyed this video. Keep watching and sharing. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
Yay! ❤️ your turquoise story rocks (eh eh, pun intended)! I’m literally sitting by the 🔥 place next to my 🐾 kitty, eating honey and pb on toast, listening to your video. Like being a little kid again at story time. 😊The info about discerning real silver from nickel-based was very helpful! There are so many fake turquoise stones it’s getting tricky to tell what’s what🤭 My Tibetan friend owns a local store and it’s lovely to see how similar the turquoise/ red coral designs are b/t your cultures. To me it shows we truly had a sea-faring global civilization at one time, so very long ago, who shared much with one another. Well, better go put a little turquoise on now to keep “the grinch” 🧟♂️ away. Big hugs❣️
Well, better go put a little turquoise on now to keep “the grinch” 🧟♂️ away. Big hugs❣️ This part made me smile and laugh. I thought about this wearing and making sure you need to wear turquoise like "what a market selling strategy." Just kidding. I love wearing this jewelry. Thank you for watching. Navajo Grandma
Wow love the lesson on jewelry I really love the lil basket your holding and the covering on the table. TFS ❤️❤️ from California ☀️ Thank you Grandma Navajo ❤️❤️
Hi Juan, thank you for telling us about this, some folks never know and that information is good for all to know. Thank you for watching grandma's videos. Hugs to you from Navajo Grandma
Julia thank you for wishing Grandma well, and the same is returned to you. Grandma sends her love and hugs. Keep watching and learning. Enjoy grandma's silly humor too. I do sniff my silver -- for reals. Love you. Navajo Grandma
Awesome vid. I passed out from coronavirus and everything turned gold, i realized that this world is of the gold color, and that the higher world of peace and eternity is white like silver... amazing revelations
I pray you are ok now. I pray for your health to remain strong and that you will run and walk and not faint that the angel of death shall always pass you by. Hugs to you. Thank you for watching this video, not gold but still a precious stone. Navajo Grandma
I love you dear Grandma! Turquoise is my birthstone ! It is such a beautiful stone. Its so interesting to hear the story about it and the silver! Wow so much goodness from this stone!
Well if you wear it then the goodness becomes a part of you too. Not like you need a stone to do this, it is folklore and true as well. Stones are real elements they are alive and do exude powers and goodness from God our Father. Hugs always. A Happy Birthday stone, awesome. Navajo Grandma

Good Morning to Germany as well. We send our yaateeh and thank you for being here with Navajo Grandma. Your presence is always wonderful. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I grew up in Ohio, and would check out a magazine from the library called Arizona Highways. I was mesmerized by the turquoise jewelry and landscape. My grandmother was born in Roswell. I now collect turquoise jewelry and it brings me such joy. Nothing more beautiful and yours is stunning. Thank you for the teaching, Grandma.
Michelle, how wonderful that you so appreciate your turquoise and I hope this video helped you in some silly way. Just don't crack your teeth determining if your rock is real or not, but really smelling works. LOL!! Hugs to you always and loved your comment. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma it helped immensely and gave me such a rich history. I have a necklace with a slender boulder turquoise pendant I wear often and hardly ever take off. I feel better when I am wearing that and maybe now I know why. I won’t use my teeth on the turquoise! Promise 😊. Much love.
Hi lisa Lou thank you for watching and yes this jewelry is gorgeous and does have its benefits. I still giggle thinking when I am wearing my silver and turquoise that my Holy Ones are smiling down on me. However, it is strengthening to a certain extent for my body and whatever that is doing, I don't mind wearing it but not like I use to. You are a good soul for supporting grandma. Have a great day!! Navajo Grandma
Glad you enjoyed it! Serious, sounds silly and probably looks weird and yes, when I see a guy biting into a turquoise rock, not knowing who's hands had held it and oh my, I just cringe. Then there is me smelling. I do really. Oh well its just life. Glad you had a chuckle cuz you have to see it in real life and you will giggle. Lots of people do this and I thought I was the only one. You get to know metals and rocks. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

You are so welcome and ahehee for your sweet comments. You sound like a little kid opening a Christmas gift and glad your name was chosen. I love that you don’t care where from etc but buy because it is right for you and you know it should be yours. I feel better about the way I choose mine! Thank you
Grandma you are so Awesome! I have always wanted to learn about turquoise, silver jewelry and the meaning behind them. Especially the small test of real silver & nickel. I am so glad I found you! I am looking forward to seeing all your videos!
I learned so much!! ❤️ Thank you grandma for both making me smarter and making me happier! Your aura, kind words, and joyful smile always warm my heart 🤗
Yes, empower yourself with calm, beauty, peace and all the goodness like wisdom. I actually almost fell over when a grandchild said, Grandma when you wear your turquoise jewelry you make such wise sense. Then again I thought and when I don't are you saying something else?? It was a 7 year old whom I trust and they literally do hear and are pure. Thus I wear my turquoise more nowadays to sound wise. Hope grandma gave you a smile watching this and our interpretations of turquoise and silver. I want to see you sniffing those silver jewels. Hahaha. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
It’s a metallic smell w nickle while silver smell’s clean if that makes sense. I was gifted by a beautiful friend the most gorgeous bracelet it has both silver and nickel. But I treasure my bracelet. Thank you for the video. When moving to New Mexico we had such fun looking at so many handcrafted pieces made by different artist’s. The jewelry work just so so beautiful. From one grandma to another, you are appreciated for the knowledge you share. I enjoy your video’s very much.
I never knew about nickel silver till now!! Love the channel! I grew up loving my mom's silver and turquoise jewelry, she had one silver band she never took off. Many blessings.
Well we all learn something new and I am grateful to you that you watched this video and learned something new. There is always something new in this Dine' culture that not all know about. That piece that you are talking about that your mother wore has great meaning and maybe one day ask her and find out. I have pieces like that too. Thank you and hope you always learn something new everyday. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
What a wonderful video. I took my children to get turquoise awhile ago. I'm starting to show them how to polish it and do work with the heishi beads like you spoke of. I'd never heard of some of the turquoise and silver stories you spoke of but I enjoyed them and think my children will too. Thank you. I'm sure my sons will cherish their turquoise much more now.
Wonderful! Thank you for the time you took to share with your children purchasing some turquoise. You needn't polish your silver, just wearing it or rubbing the silver with your fingers and your body acid will shine the silver properly. Wearing it shines it as well of course if you want a quick shine, I take some colgate toothpaste, rub it together in my hands then get my silver jewelry rub it everywhere really well, then wash it off with warm water. Walla it is shiny as can be. Mostly, as you wear it it will keep it shiny. I had to rewatch the video and yes the Holy People do want to find you wearing your jewelry. At least being Dine' that was the stories told to us. Thank you for watching and hope you subscribed. Welcome again and again and remember Navajo Grandma does appreciate your watching her videos. Hugs
@@thunderbirdconservationfar2884 What a good soul you are teaching the young ones how to care for what they own. Navajo Grandma
Awesome demo good to know. I found an old bracelet my father use to have when I was little. The turquoise had broke n the silver which I tho it was silver, needed cleaning it was nickle. I was disappointed but still happy that I've found my fathers bracelet. For he is no longer with us. The story you told at the end my father used to say that all the time, but he also added the blessings come in the early morning peek thru your windows to see if your house is clean if it is they stay. Thank you very much for your insight I am very much appreciative of all the reminders of the teachings.
Janice glad you still have that bracelet, what a connection of love and memories of dad. So very precious. I wouldn't trade it for a million, serious. Glad this presentation brought back some wise advice of long ago as they are real if you really ponder it. Love you. Navajo Grandma
I have my fathers Turquoise ring.. But I lost it and we had to move...I was really upset because of that ring... But I found it on the floor the day we moved...Thank God I have my Dads ring again...He loved turquoise...It’s like a wedding ring made of silver and turquoise...
Oh my, I am so happy you found your Father's ring. It must be beautiful and even more so what it represents even though it is made of silver and turquoise. There is beauty in both. You were meant to have that ring and I can bet you your father made sure you found that ring. How awesome! Thank you for that precious comment. I giggle now and then when I wear my turquoise necklaces and bracelets and rings that the Holy People are pouring down blessings upon me as they see me decked out. I sometimes sleep with all my jewelry on and at times I wake up and like you find things I thought I had lost, or someone calls and says, Oh I owed you money, here it is. Oh, I never say no to that one. Or just that the sun shines and the day becomes so darn beautiful and I feel like I am in a picture post card, do you ever feel that way? I do all the time. How grateful I feel and giggle again thinking the Dine' people believe in the Holy People so much. I just believe its Heavenly Father who appreciates the beauty of silver and turquoise. He does delight in the beauty of a woman and a man who are virtuous and I think wearing turquoise is virtuous. Did you know turquoise is the stone praised by Jewish people and that when the Navajo singers went to Jerusalem and sang their songs with their turquoise the Jewish people were astounded as the Rabbi's spoke up and said, "that is our songs, our ancient songs, where did you learn them and why are you wearing the turquoise of our ancients? Where did you get these designs for they are ours. Then after the conversations, these Jews sat with the Navajo singers and sang their songs right along with them as if they had always sung the songs. It is not coincidental that where we came from. Later on I shall introduce to all of you why through oral histories, songs and prayers that explain more than a lot of folks really know. We all came to turtle island. I said enough, from your awesome comment. Too much maybe. Grandma loves you. Have a good rest tonight and have a great Holy Sabbath. Love you. Navajo Grandma
I love this! I love turquoise and now i know the history and traditions around it. All your jewelry is lovely. Im so glad i have some turquoise in the house. I so dont want hunger in my house with his creepy self.
@@NavajoGrandma sorry grandma if i came across rude. I didn't mean to be. I didnt know this was an important belief for the dine. I learned something new today. And im also very sorry. Lu well you are a good soul for taking this type of work on. We all have gifts and you have been given this opportunity, now run with it. Then tell us all about your journey. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
My name is Lupe, and brought up in the Mexican culture just to find out just a few years ago that we are American natives as well. My family never knew. My spirit knew but hard to explain. Would like to meet you one day to discuss genealogy theories with you. I'm 62 years young.
My mother loved silver and turquoise jewelry, I am planning to learn to make hand made silver and truquoise jewelry myself to honor my mother, she passed away in 2016 in February from cancer due to her medication she became confrinational our relationship was sort of a struggle most my life I love her and forgave her I feel I need to do this to honor her memory. She had a difficult child hood she had me at 16 yrs old I was born in 1960 In February again. At that time that was not looked upon very good. She had not grown up and raising 3 kids in her teens did not give her that chance to grow up, she did spend years trying to fit in. But she had this jewelry since our family visited the Dine peope when I was a child. I cant wait to buy some jewelry for myself I want a nice ring a belt bukle and a cowboy tie to wear with my cowboy shirts. Its exciting to think about this. Jewelry great video grandma you always share so many wonderful details. Thank You like always Doug..
Appreciate your kind words and I feel for your mother. Sometimes the decisions we make alter what could have been or alter our personalities but look she did the best she could to raise you, no matter what. She might have been angry with herself you know, not you. That's what we as people do to ourselves. That's why the smudging video and prayer is so important to learn to forgive ourselves and move forward. That silversmithing sounds awesome. I wanted to do it too but when I read about it and my brother and sister in law showed me, I sorta said, no thanks. You have to want to do it. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Yea she did do her best. Im her years over 50 went to college at San San Diego State, ahe got her bachelors and Maaters degree in Child Psychology and worked over 22 years at CPS for the county, she was q strong Christian did everything she could to put families back together to restore them. Taking mothers to AA or NA meeting ahe often would tqke the kids to the mall at Christmas and buy them presents to have under a Christmas tree with her own money and time. My baby sister died atbthe age of 40 Yrs old, this relationship was the hardest for both of them, my sister had been raped by 2 neighbor boys the youngest was my qge and hus brithe4a couple years older. My sister faught with me not to tell our parents, being her big brother justice had to be delt with I did what any brother should do, wooped both of them at the same time. My little sister sucked her thumb when she was teething and ahe woukd rock herseld to sleep on the couch wh3n she was little my parents had a hard time getting her to stop, well I noticed qt 12 yrs old she was doing this again and not soing her chores after school I asked what was wrong my sister is my sister ahe took the old fashioned dial phone and knocked m3 out with it, i wake up ahe screaminh to leave her alone slapping me on the head, she lost it. I pick her up amd tossed her into my father's chair. Then pinned her down and said who. Not what that I kind if figured out, well after beating the 2 brothers up on the way to school, our family attended church regularly Sunday Morning and night and Thursday night services. That Sunday night, the boys broke into our house and lit my sisters room on fire. I worked with my father for six weeks to repair all that had been done. So those boys took hell from me in the way to school the way home from school and usually a knock out punch in the halls at least once each passing from ckqss to class. Unfortunately the power I felt I enjoyed it and bullied them severely onbthe way home, this gave me an issue with anger and my temper that I many times wasnt able to control though high school I went on the after that and the 1st 2 yrs I was in trouble with authorities then ama older petty officer rook me under his wing and I began to cintrop myself he became a chief in the Navy amd he put me in th3 Captains gig his boat another words and since the age of 21 yrs old I have had to sef3nd myself with a few younger larger black males who wanted to rob me, both times I kept my money and walked away, I dealt with myself not to let that out if its closet for many years O would not argue wity my wife I would walk out the door not to get angry I was afraid of myself. Ahe knew that was my only way to cope with myself if I walked out it was silence for days when I came home w3 didnt fight really for 20 yrs my son thinks I am weak or something he never saw me angry thank God I will let him think what wver he wants not to know what is inside that to this day meditate and pray sit quietly appreciating things the small things and dont allow anyone to upset my world today I am grateful my life has been mostly blessed the person that mqkee qny suffering occur is me. I know to much that I wish I never knew to still.be naive. But eyes that see and eare that hear doesnt allow me to know how real the fight of good and evil exist and the spirits that walk the earth and those that dwell in some people is something that breaks my heart I talk with my guardian angel who guides me protects me from myself and others tells me stop when I am about to snap when in business being treqted unfairly or should say get ripped off in a big way. Wisdom only happens through hard lessons that the test gets passed when its difficult to recognize the 3rd time that its a test because you always have to pick yourself up dust off and keep trying to so what's right bulding character keeping your word telling the truth even when it hurts. Anyway Navajo Grandma this friendship is actually really the only one ai can share freely the people were I live have no spiritual connection they only serve self totally unaware they refuse to accept the great spirit they believe all there is live pay taxes and die, I believe we are far more powerful with many gifts that we are here to learn them and to understand serving others is loving self I believe well honestly some of us humans are light beings created to be like the creator if we choose the good side it doesnt make the lesson plan for each of ue any easier just more joyous and peaceful as we journey and those gifts come alive one at a time as our soul or spirit journeys at ever higher awareness restoring us from the fog of birth we go through here. The stories or old are real there was evil that walked with ancestors they were giant that did unspeakable things and those that participate in that are again rising in that evil to many of our babies disappear every year, the truth. Anywqy more could be said concerning that, God Bless he is in charge I am his vessel to pour out his universal love and not judge anyone even my enemy, but pour out blessings heaped upon their head and forgive them from the heart is what I am told to do for myself to grow beyond being neanderthal cave man myself.
@@dougreed9843 Doug, what I have read is sad, awful and I see that as you look back, you might be blaming yourself for these things that happened. You were never the blame, you took crap and hits for trying to make things right. You are a good man and I pray that you look at this sad situation and wash yourself of any blame. I feel sorry for your sister, I pray she is okay as when you go thru stuff like this rape, it has its long term effects. It takes a strong person to overcome its awfulness and cause and effects. I hope you no longer talk to yourself by saying, "I could snap, or I could do something angry." You won't snap. As you forgive yourself, bring good thoughts, do good service, and pray to let go of the past, you will eventually "will have learned from it, and to leave it where it was and not keep bringing and dragging it back to your memory." Not easy but is doable by involving yourself doing positive service, being kind like you are, like your mom tried to do, as she also was trying to give herself positive hope and blessings." She must have gone through a rough life, that you don't even know of, or that she would have never told you because she knew you might snap." So it goes both ways. Never say to yourself, "you might snap." Instead say, "I am tolerant like God, I am in control of my emotions." I am kind, loving and God knows what I am going through and will help me through it. Then spend constructive days, like walking, listening to good music, calming music, draw, paint, make something by hand to put at someone's door that you don't even know and leave it as a gift. Keep it simple. Be kind even when others are not. But don't be a push over. I told my kids, there is a point if someone is bullying you and you know it is wrong and they punch you, don't be afraid to punch them back if it is out of hand. Remain positive and remember grandma is praying for you and God knows your heart and circumstances. Its up to us to live on the past or to close the door and move forward. I know you are trying, feed yourself good words, and good things. Watch grandma's videos and just be the wonderful person you are and your heart is good. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Wow! Very interesting. Thank you so much. I can remember falling in love with turquoise after seeing a ring-- I was around 13 y/o. Then, some suggest that it's my birthstone: December :) Nonetheless, what a beautiful & educational presentation.
Hello grandma, It was very interesting information, when i was little my mom use buy us rings with the stones and also the same color of shoes soft leather moccasins Then as I got older it seemed that my mom wasn't very interested in the rings for us well thank you for the great lesson hope to catch another one soon god bless
Mariah now and more everyday. We need to know what is right from wrong and expend our lives on what is most important -- our family, ourselves being kinder and serving, and to all others. We can stand against evil though and do it with gut, faith and zeal. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Yaateeh shi yazhi, aheehee for listening, watching and learning. I love making these videos as I was taught by my Nali and Bizhi as a little child from the age of 18 months until I was 10 I lived with them in a hogan and watched, learned, saw, heard all they did traditionally and culturally. I didn't know I had learned so much until I started making these videos. I kept feeling them egging me on I believe from the spirit world to do this and it just filled my soul and spirit until one day my son, Keaka came over and said, Mom let's make a frybread video. There was nothing pre-empted, we just turned the video recorder on and my granddaughter and I made our first video. You have to go to his youtube videos called LIFE IS OHANA, where that video is at. Take a look. So thank you for complimenting grandma but who you really are complimenting is my Nali and Bizhi. I love them so much and they lead and guide me still to this day. Thank you for watching as grandma loves you so. Aheehee again. Navajo Grandma
Just started collecting turquoise. I love the lore about the Holy People blessing us for enjoying our jewelry and Hunger taking root if we don't. It makes wearing it that much more special!
This information tickled me and I thought, what a sales pitch for buying and wearing Silver jewelry. But for reals, that is what is taught as a folk lore and carried on in our culture. The beliefs were taken more serious as they were deeply entrenched with and through the Holy People whom was in part deity to the Dine' people. Thus as they watched over us and blessed us thus it was imperative that we do their bidding and obey their desires for us. So enjoy wearing and purchasing turquoise and silver, I know when I wear it, it does exude a feeling of joy, a feeling of home, self, and just plain a representation of what I saw my ancestors wear and they had the real old jewelry, wow, you can't imagine the beauty and immaculate workmanship that was done by hand. The coins made into buttons, conchos, belts, necklaces, the beauty was beyond compare. I saw this, then I also saw them buried with their jewelry and yes, the white men who buried our ancestors would dig up their bodies later, raid their graves.I remember my auntie died and her jewelry was placed upon her. A week later all of her jewelry was sitting in a case in the trader/grave digger store. My father being a policeman started an investigation and soon the jewelry disappeared. It was voodoo to exhume bodies back then, but dad did and my aunties body had nothing and the denial and threats that came to murder my father came to nothing. These white men were grave robbers and pretty sick. I joy in my God that they are or have gotten their comeuppance. So is our sad history at times with these types of disgusting traders. If I were Navajo Nation President I would demand every white person off the Dine' Keyah reservation immediately. Then allow our own people in hopes they don't do the same, but we know they do. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma Thank you for sharing those pieces of your family history. I'm sorry your aunt and other Navajo people had their graves robbed 😞 I am sure those white men and others like them paid a heavy price somewhere, somehow. I'm glad your father was not harmed, sounds like he was a brave man! I am not Dine' but I have Native American ancestry from the Tejano side of my family. If the Holy People choose to smile upon me for my jewelry or any other reason, I will accept their blessings graciously 😊
@@mikeg8276 I hope you do have turquoise to please the Holy People. Notice, it must also be real silver and real turquoise. Back in the day, it was all real. I love your comment. Navajo Grandma
Thank you so much . Was not aware of the nickel. I break out unless 925. I love turquoise. My favorite color to also paint with. I resonate with this stone and love to wear it. . Thank you for these wonderful teachings.🙏
Its such a stone of protection, calming, peace, and yes psychologically the color blue is what folks lean toward for calm which we all need to rejuvenate. Its your body and spirit that is so pure that is wanting this and you find out its a like and then a love because of its qualities and spiritual connections to you. What you said tells grandma you have a lovely spirit and soul, how awesome. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I wished I had known about the smell test 😆 I have a nickel silver turquoise necklace that turned on me and I was disappointed to say the least. I have to agree with you, concho belts are so beautiful! You have a beautiful collection though Grandma.Thank you for sharing with us. ❤
Alanna, it is true about nickel, we need to be careful and not allow our eyeballs get the best of us, we see something gorgeous like that bracelet, it looked great right? Well and the seller wanted $400.00. Whoa, now some folks will buy it and than it will turn green on them. So yes, the smell test does work. My smeller is tops and keen like a puppy. I am still thinking of investing in a concho belt but hesitant. I lost my grandfather's in such a way, it still hurts. Well anywho, we love jewelry and it needs to be right. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma That bracelet is beautiful, moving forward i'll definitely be doing the smell test when we go to art festivals. I'm sorry about your grandfather's belt I know how sentimental loved one's possessions can be. Lots of love Grandma and best to you and your family. ❤

I love this video! Thank you Navajo Grandma. My ancestors (Ópata) worked in the mines in Bisbee. My great grandma passed on a lot of Bisbee turquoise to my mom. I grew up having such a love and respect for it. So grateful to learn more about it. :^)
BN again, thank you for taking the time to watch and learn from this turquoise and silver video grandma put together for you. Wow, what a beautiful turquoise this Bisbee. I know when you hear that name most people who know turquoise, their eyes pop wide open. How blessed you are to have been around your ancestors who mined this incredible turquoise stone. Thank you for sharing and like I kindly ask all of you subscribers, please write these wonderful stories you remember about your ancestors, tell it from your eyes, from your thoughts, from your feelings, who was there, what were their names, etc. When you need a lift of spirits, open the book of your writings and read. Hi grandma I love your jewelry. If I do ever come across turquoise jewelry I will certainly buy it. I will think of you when I do but not sure if I will find it around where I’m from. Your culture is so amazing.
So cool, love your presentation. I was not taught about the smell, but my grandma taught me to rub the stone on my front teeth to see if it was real or plastic. I will be a smeller as well as a bitter from now on. Peace to you and yours.
I read your comment to my husband and we both laughed with joy. I tell you, it didn't sound funny till I hear you say it. Lots of subscribers are making me laugh but I can see why now that I viewed my video. Oh well, we can bite and sniff right? Hugs. Navajo Grandmd
@@LindaLanglitz642 I am not sure as I am not biting into these, I just can tell that the plastics made by those who want to make it appear turquoise have gone to great lengths to make its appearance so incredibly like the rock. Now you won't do this, but if you took a hot needle you can penetrate the stone that looks turquoise if it is plastic. Only makes sense, of course you know, real rock you can't penetrate it naturally with a hot needle. Don't try it. Just be wise.
Awww Jean you are so kind. I am not a film or editor or anything of the camera type. But I do what I have learned so abruptly that I am elementary in everything I present. To me that is keeping it simple. So many others have such beautiful ways of presentation but mine is just me. Hugs and loves. Navajo Grandma
I'm so grateful and blessed to have found your channel 🧡 I look forward to watching more of your videos and learning the teachings. My name is Valerie & I'm a reconnecting Navajo native. I'm really loving all the turquoise and silver jewelry ☺️
Shi Yazhi, Thank you Tiny Val, and glad you are reconnecting to your Dine' Roots. I am doing what I can to teach what my grandparents, my Nali and Bizhi taught me and finding I know more than I thought. Thus, its not Hollywood, its plain old grandma teaching her cultural understandings. We are now into the wool processing, just finished shearing in Colorado. Its pretty boring for my subscribers who are barely online anymore, they seem to like my food dishes the most. So more rounds of FRYBREAD recipies and meals. Serious, people love to eat Frybread. I was in Sacramento California and there are signs all over the city that says "DO NOT EAT FRYBREAD, IT WILL KILL YOU!" Signs everywhere. I couldn't believe it. Oh well, I do contend with the sign because mostly every food we eat CAN KILL US too and I just say, "moderation in all things." So you are caught up and hope you enjoy watching and learning. Hugs. I enjoyed your video about genealogy records.

Its serious and real as I know it sounds silly but that's grandma. I am persnickety about what I wear and yes, but I am not the only one. Here in the Southwest there are men and women you see discreetly doing things like this when money is on the line and even our likes.
Also I love your strand necklace!
Oh thank you so much. Didn't even think of that necklace.
I have my fathers
Turquoise ring..

After high school I went in the Navy I missed putting that in right before the 1st 2 yrs... that will mqke mor3 sense

Hi, Grandma. Love your videos. You are knowledgeable and have a sense of humor. From a devoted Dine' woman. From Albuquerque NM.

Pearls have a roughness when rubbed across teeth. What texture is turquoise vs plastic? Thank you!

Hugs.
