He is one of the contemporary and traditional Navajo artists. His work usually involves tufa casting and inlay. He has many awards from various shows, but he still makes jewelry with a lot of Navajo pride and includes his tradition into jewelry.

That green turquoise really grabs my heart. While I love the blue there's some thing especially special about the green.

I love this style of jewelry. I lived in Pheniox for a while when I was younger and had some beautiful turquoise jewelry. It got stolen when I came back to S.C. we went swimming at a lake. My Mom's friends were the only people there with us that day. I knew they got it. I was so hurt.😢

The very light colored piece of turquoise the gentleman showed might not have been considered "quality", but I thought it was beautiful.

Great information and interview. I have always loved turquoise and other stones that are the color of green and blue and red. My late aunt was an avid collector of old Dineh, Hopi, Santo Domingo, and Zuni jewelry. She left me some beautiful pieces when she passed and it is because of her that I developed a love for jewelry that is not just a beautiful work of art but part of a culture that is ancient. This applies not only to North America but also to other parts of the world. Anything creative that requires a deep connection to the earth and your own heritage is something that I admire. I am myself I am a great lover of beautiful stones and I work with stones with my hands doing flint napping and Stone knapping , Grinding, and polishing the ancient way. There is a beautiful green crystalline stone we have in the Carolinas and I can’t get anyone to identify at 100%. It is a good bit like turquoise except the crystalline structure varies depending on what quality of stone you get. It only occurs in an area called the slate band and it is usually in the same place that you will find quartz and occasionally you will find gold. During the 1800s a lot of people ripped the earth apart looking for gold wherever they would find a seam of quartz but I’m not that kind of person. Eventually the earth just kind of washes away and some of the stones make their appearance. They vary in color from pale green to a dark lime green with crystal in them. Still looking for a geologist to positively identify them. So far all they can tell me is that they are metamorphic igneous. I do know that some of the ancient people would use the higher quality stones to make tools from time to time and they can hold an extremely sharp edge because of the crystal content.
Peridot maybe 🤔 , check the hardness and scratch test it with a porcelain plate, If you can't find someone to identify it then do it yourself. If it's a new mineral or crystal you get dibs on the name or you can send me a sample and I can try to do it.

Among the diné, Begay is as common as Smith or Jones.
Is there a name for turquoise infused quartz? I found some small samples from an ancient native site just outside the Joshua Tree National Park.
We only picked from the tailings not much there but there were enough smalls to make it fun. Much was very dry and brittle but there were some much better pieces within the piles.

I want to learn about turqoise, I have a piece (braclet) from when I was a child. I love it and respect it and the artists that work with it. I would like to sell pieces in Nebraska. What is a good way to learn? I have a hard time finding information on the makers marks and the stamps from the silver smiths. So if pieces are getting more valuable it should be a good investment. Right? Can you name a way to learn what silversmiths and which ones to watch for? I go to a lot of estate and thrift stores. So are most of the purple pieces bisbee?
It’s a LOT of learning to look at turquoise. There are some great books out there that show you examples of the mines but honestly this takes time- go find a list of the American turquoise mines, then go to Instagram and search them- Instagram is where almost all active sellers are these days. Find good people online that way and start making friends and messaging people

Its the most difficult stone to buy in the market. Scamsters have even raised the prices high to make a fortified and dyed stones to look like genuine turquoise.

That is one reason why knowing who you buy from is important. Reputation.
Do your homework, ask around. Find out who is who and who is associated with which mine.
It is a small world. You'll start to hear certain names pop up.
Try this; figure out what type turquoise you're looking for (green or blue, plain or webbed, rough or cut, cabs or pendants, stabilized or unstabilized, even certain mines if you want, or type of jewelry settings)
Then start asking who is best match for your criteria.
