You're absolutely right, our hands are the best tools! I remember my mother's stories cooking all day for everyone that worked on the farm. They would start at 4 am, end at 8 pm, 365 days...vacations didn't exist...food kept "the hands happy"... nothing fancy, just nutritional and high in calories. Really love your stories!!

Oh Matt, I am not ready to do that. Its bad enough to put my videos together. Also dealing with the weather right now. I do know it is wonderful to watch and thank you so much in having such goodness for grandma. There are only a numbered amount of Navajo food to make. Seasonal and everyday. The ones who you need to find are the Navajo guys who cook up the food and watch them add spices that are not traditional but then watching them taste what they make its mouth watering. My dad was the best cook. I swear when he made scrambled eggs, there is no one even my Mom who could match the scrambled eggs my dad made. It was unreal. Guys have such a knack for this. How about you Matt? LOL! "Turning the tables on you brother." Seriously I love cooking outside and that is my heart. There is nothing like the smell of cedar while making frybread or Navajo tortillas. Then the aroma of the pungent anaheim chili's cooking over the coals. Nothing like it. I love that. Great comment. Hugs from Navajo Grandma.

I went to a trade school and took culinary arts as well as becoming a cook in the marine corps. I'm not a professional chef. But I think I cook pretty well. I love cooking and trying different ethnic foods. I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I try to find ways to make different foods diabetic friendly, which is a discovery on its own. I have my first fry bread at my first powwow in Massachusetts (which is where I live), and I loved it. Especially the (as they called it ) Indian tacos.
Thank you again. Be well, and God bless 😁

@@mattnobrega6621 You are wonderful. Well I just gave the t ype of flours to use for another person with type 1 diabetes. Using different flour such as Coconut Flour, Chickpea Flour, Almond Flour and more. That is to make frybread. I am moving and need to finish. I am also looking for a place for gpa and I. I love your comments. Pray always for healing. Grandma loves you so. Proud of you and what you have done. Someday you might cook for grandma, who knows. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma

My dearest grandson "Isaiah," what a beautiful name, a holy name, you need to be reverent because of this blessed name given to you as the man in the scriptures grandma knows was a good man, obedient, loving and kind and loved God." Thank you for saying Navajo Grandma is your grandma too, because Isaiah, "I am too." Thank you Isaiah. I am proud of your mother teaching you and letting you watch Navajo Grandma make Naneeskadi. Maybe some future day Navajo Grandma can make this for you and your Mom. Who knows.
Sonya I can only say, "from the mouths of babes." So holy are our little ones, teach him correct principles, keep him close, love him always. Your boys will always love their Mom. Mine while they were growing up would have water fights with me throwing cups or bottle full of water at me, well I was smarter than them, I would grab the water hose, turn it on, they would run into the house thinking I wouldn't go there, but guess what I did and plaster them with water. We all screamed and had such crazy fun. Of course, I cleaned the mess up cuz I was the one who brought the hose into the house. Sometimes they (4) would pick me up out of no where and I would scream being so high. They would throw me into a pool of water. Oh goodness, or they would just carry me around as I would scream. They loved that. Life is wonderful to have children. Please have fun with Isaiah, protect him, and enjoy drawing with him, read to him always from the good books and the adventures of Huckleberry Finn, old but good ones, clean and adventurous. Now I will stop as I am carrying on from your little comment. So many happy thoughts came to my mind after I read your precious comment. Well off to bed and don't let the bed bugs bite. Always our final goodnight. I have to admit children take everything literal, soon everyone would be in bed with me and I would say, whats going on. Their response, there are bed bugs in our beds and we don't want them to bite us. See so don't say that to Isaiah. They do take everything literal. So enough!! Love you Sonya. Navajo Grandma

@@sonyajarquin6832 Sonya don't you know grandma and grandpa have been staying in our car? We lost our house, our means to have a house, our business, this dumb covid crap, then we had to put everything in storage. That is where we went daily to take our baths, wash our hair from a bowl of water. I scrubbed my husband down and we went out into the desert to make my videos, cooked out there and it was beautiful, serene, peaceful and just rejuvenating. We did this for months on end. That is when I felt like I was drowning and things weren't going well, I made a video for help from my Navajo Grandma family. It brought in close to $5,000.00 and because of the problems of dealing with Patreon and Gofundme I threw my hands up in the air and said, stop!! It was awful and still now as I am withdrawing they want everything but my urine sample, I swear. So still going nuts with that. So you don't worry to think grandma thinks anything. It shocked me that there were hundreds of trucks and cars almost looking like a car sales place during the evenings at Cracker Barrel parking lot, people sleeping in their cars, elderly, men, women, children, families, its crazy. This pandemic has brought such loss to many, but gpa and I have survived and made lemonade out of lemons. We have a room now also, we wait for the bathroom, but who cares. We are alive and safe. So we all have to do what we got to do. I am thrilled you are strong, you made it through your illness, the man who walked out on you --"its his loss!!" I mean that as you are just wonderful yourself and to hear your story is so common now in this Navajo Grandma family. I pray to lift those with needs, that like grandpa said, "sometimes you need to just be thankful you can breathe, so breathe with prayer and gratitude." He was right. I pray these videos help you three. Tell your little ones to be strong, help them find happiness no matter where they are or their circumstances, but children are so godly, they understand. I didn't know we were poor Dine' as white folks told me, but to me as a child, my life was wonderful, powerful and full of reality and happiness with my grandparents. I learned so much and I am better for it. I don't remember that we had poverty as we saw ourselves thru God's eyes and our hearts as He knows us. life is wonderful no matter what is dealt to us, You are an example of that. I had 7 children with zero child support, people hated me(white mormon church folks) they even tell me to this day that they remember what a bother I was, how I had so many kids and it was awful and more. I ask them, "did you ever think to come help me?" They shut up and walk away. So much for whatever God is in their lives. They always say, "what would Jesus do." Hmmm yes, what would Jesus do, love others, be their brothers keeper. We suffered but we also had immense joy going without. Christmas always came, we always had a birthday cake, a coat for winter, shoes for school even tho my children had hand me downs, the socks were mended and lasted. This is what makes us hardy, and our strength is in God. I pray you pray with these little ones and teach them who God is always. Man has flaws to the bone, God is pure and will always be pure and will always love us without conditions. So much for grandma's short response. I love you and thank you for suffering, thank you for being strong, thank you for learning and teaching God's precious spirits your children. Women do not realize what an honor it is to be called "mother." "momma" 'mom" It is an honor beyond honor. So grandma loves you and remain strong. Blessings await you 3. Hugs from Navajo Grandma

Not having family to tell me stories and teach me about my heritage. Finding Navajo Grandma's channel has helped to fill this void. It actually brings me to tears. Will you be my Navajo Grandma? Thank you for all of your videos. It makes such an amazing impact on my life and the life of others. I wish my native family was alive. I wish I knew how to speak Diné. My dearest Christina, yes, I am your Navajo Grandma, maybe not in real life or by DNA but here I am and I am so honored. Thank you for finding grandma. I always say to those who are new, come sit by grandma and her fire and warm your feet, come listen and hear her stories, her life and see your culture and tradition's thru her eyes and how she grew up. I was given to my Paternal grandparents, just for you to know, our Paternal grandfather is called "Nali" and our Paternal grandmother is called "Bizhi." Our Maternal grandfather is called "chei" and our Maternal grandmother is called "shi masani" "Shi" means my, mine. You can say, "Shi Nali, Shi Bizhi, Shi Chei, Shi Masani." Then I have shared most of the times I spent with them, how we traveled in a wagon and just life in general and how they taught me. I never learned English until I was 10 years old as my father explained to some missionaries I didn't know how to speak english and how was I going to talk with them? They said no problem, they put oil on my head and gave me a blessing. When I met my white foster parents the first thing from my mouth was, "Hi Mom and Dad, my name is Frankie blah blah blah." I almost fainted but I knew exactly what I said, I heard everything everyone spoke, it was clear, it was so wonderful, it was like a light turning on, the joy it gave to me filled me with wonder and awe and just happiness. Like a light bulb turning on in a dark room. I always heard white folks talk as we were the only Navajo family who had moved into a white town long ago. I use to sing in english and knew every word and songs but didn't know what I was singing. Now I did and I was overjoyed. So that is my story and my language. I did forget some Dine' Bizaad but eventually being around Shi Bizhi and Shi Nali, it all came back to me so quickly. I loved it. You are blessed to grow up where you did and I hope you realize how wonderful your mother is. Someday you will go to the reservation and see who you are and how many of your people are suffering. That is why Navajo Grandma is running for Navajo Nation President. Its unheard of to have a woman for president but its time. Too many many Navajo men have failed thus its time for a woman to lead. It is a Matrilineal society so its just right. I hope you understand. Hugs always from Navajo Grandma

It's 1 a.m. And you're making me hungry. I've been making tortillas years, but wanted to see how others here make them. I wanted to see how you pat out the dough. I've seen frybread and tortillas deep fried, cooked on a hot pan with a thin film of oil which is healthier, and cooked on a dry comal/griddle. But Grandma, yours is the best. OMG, chiles and tortillas cooked over wood coals! I love Big Jims. Birds singing in the background, robins and jays... and the sound of clean, rushing wind! It must be spring, according to the birds? I'm vegetarian, but the whole thing still made me hungry. And you're the only one who also taught us new words. Thank you!

I moved to texas and fell in love with the Mexican food and I know if I live in your neighborhood you’d never get rid of me I’d be eating at your house everyday. My friends in texas are just like that . Have you eaten! I never went hungry . I made sure that I learned to cook every Mexican dish before I moved. I’ve been in NH for two years and I hate it here. I miss my morning tacos and you have me drooling over here. There is not one place here that has any tacos Mexican or native . More native need to open up restaurants all over .crazy but all my life my friends have been native from many tribes . I just lost two very close friends brother and sister from the Dakota’s within three days of each other. Their parents were very gracious people and I miss them so much.

Sad to hear of the loss of dear friends. Aside from that, you had me rolling in laughter then sobered me up pretty quick with the last notes. I do understand what you are saying. I was in Japan and almost died without frybread. Their flour was too fine like pastry flour. Eventually I was able to make some and floated for a while then back to rice and teriyaki this and that. I have to admit it was delish though. All you need to do is fix the fixin for yourself and you won't need to search high and low for Mexican or Dine' food silly. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

I love frybread but Naneeskadi is my favorite. When there wasn't any oil to be had then it was time to grill the dough. Thus most of the time when we were on the road in our wagon, my Nali and Bizhi made oatmeal for breakfast, and grilled anything else that we had for supper. Whatever it was, it was absolutely delicious as when we traveled everything was cooked outside. Thanks for watching and learning. Navajo Grandma

What kind words of Hozho you give to Navajo Grandma. Yes, I wish I could bring everyone of you to my home and we would camp out, cook and cook out, drink Navajo Tea, tell each other stories, wash our hair with Yucca, build a fire way out in the back country, sit and eat again, warm our feet, tell more stories, roll in the snow, scream our ears off and do it again. Happy thoughts. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

What wisdom and kindness you gave to Navajo Grandma with Hozho. Hozho is giving "peace, beauty, balance and harmony. Thank you and yes it is something that we all need to know what others experienced thru life in these Native American reservations and how we survived and still do. There are always stories of these cultural and traditional ways. I just pray we as a people will retain these stories and show them and record them with gratitude from whence they came. Hugs. When I spent some time w my sister on the rez, my sister made the dough but got called away 2 help a relative. I was given the task to finish shaping & cooking the tortilla. I never made tortillas b 4. I did my best wo a rolling pin. My sister came back & serve the beef stew & bread. None of the men would eat it; just looked at it. Until my sister said I made it, then the men became supportive & praised my effort. My nephew called it "home made navajo crackers." I made them too thin & crunchy. My sister told me navajo men won't eat their bread unless its perfectly round. Thats why they were just looking at it. That's the only time I ever cooked on the rez. I get told "too many cooks spoils the pot" go sit down n the living room & wait w the guys. 😆 🤣 😂 😹
