Oh Matt, I am not ready to do that. Its bad enough to put my videos together. Also dealing with the weather right now. I do know it is wonderful to watch and thank you so much in having such goodness for grandma. There are only a numbered amount of Navajo food to make. Seasonal and everyday. The ones who you need to find are the Navajo guys who cook up the food and watch them add spices that are not traditional but then watching them taste what they make its mouth watering. My dad was the best cook. I swear when he made scrambled eggs, there is no one even my Mom who could match the scrambled eggs my dad made. It was unreal. Guys have such a knack for this. How about you Matt? LOL! "Turning the tables on you brother." Seriously I love cooking outside and that is my heart. There is nothing like the smell of cedar while making frybread or Navajo tortillas. Then the aroma of the pungent anaheim chili's cooking over the coals. Nothing like it. I love that. Great comment. Hugs from Navajo Grandma.
@Navajo Grandma I went to a trade school and took culinary arts as well as becoming a cook in the marine corps. I'm not a professional chef. But I think I cook pretty well. I love cooking and trying different ethnic foods. I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I try to find ways to make different foods diabetic friendly, which is a discovery on its own. I have my first fry bread at my first powwow in Massachusetts (which is where I live), and I loved it. Especially the (as they called it ) Indian tacos. Thank you again. Be well, and God bless 😁
@@mattnobrega6621 You are wonderful. Well I just gave the t ype of flours to use for another person with type 1 diabetes. Using different flour such as Coconut Flour, Chickpea Flour, Almond Flour and more. That is to make frybread. I am moving and need to finish. I am also looking for a place for gpa and I. I love your comments. Pray always for healing. Grandma loves you so. Proud of you and what you have done. Someday you might cook for grandma, who knows. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
Fernando, how kind to think Gma reminds you of your amazing Gma. She still loves you and blesses you. You will be able to see her again. Bless you. Navajo Grandma
You're absolutely right, our hands are the best tools! I remember my mother's stories cooking all day for everyone that worked on the farm. They would start at 4 am, end at 8 pm, 365 days...vacations didn't exist...food kept "the hands happy"... nothing fancy, just nutritional and high in calories. Really love your stories!!
Oh I love comments like yours. You bring heartstrings reality memories of yesteryear. Thank you. I shall read this many times again. You express yourself so beautifully. Yes our fingers are our tools like GPA & daddy would remind us if there were no forks & spoons. Great happy memories!! Thank you again for commenting & subscribing. Love you sweet one. Navajo Grandma
Well HeyMichael this is great news. Thank you for trusting our Dine' culture and traditions and seeing there is great reality and spiritualism in God and seeing that we need to be strong in prayer and really loving caring and serving one another. Thank you for being wonderful!! Hugs from Navajo Grandma
Brenda what a lovely kind compliment! But remember it goes both ways, as your comment is a blessing to me as well. Thankyou for taking the time to watch, listen and learn Hugs always from Navajo Grandma
I am an Ojibwe Potawatomi Kokomis from way up in Obtario, Canada. Since summer is upon us, I am going to give the Navajo bread a try. The Navajo bread reminds me of open over the fire Bannock bread. I pray KITICHI MANIDO blesses you with love, peace, and happy days.
Roberta, thank you pretty girl and what a Nation to come from way up in Ontario, Canada. A long way from the Navajo Nation. Why thank you for sending this comment and I know you will make this absolutely perfect. I know it will taste good. Just don't make it a habit or get addicted to it. I am so happy to hear from you our sister in Canada. Thank you for blessing Navajo Grandma. I needed that. Axhehee shi yazhi. (Thank you my litte one) Hugs from the Navajo Nation to Canada to Robert!! Navajo Grandma
Hi there Tim from western Colorado. How far west, like Grand Junction area? Or further? I go to Hotchkiss now and then and Grand Junction. Beautiful state. I love to drive from the road to Grand Junction and go on the back road thru the canyon to Moab. Gorgeous. Didn't know there was such a wide spread beauty there. Thanks for watching and try your hand at this and please don't get addicted. LOL! Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandmaHello, I live about 20 minutes from Hotchkiss near the town of Cedaredge. It is at the base of Grand Mesa. I just finished a big ol' Navajo taco! I fried the bread in my Grandma's cast iron skillet. She got it as a wedding gift in 1920, so it is 103 years old! I cooked my pinto beans and mayocoba beans all day long on my wood stove. Thanks again for the fry bread recipe! Take care, Tim.
@@timdybala7127 Tim I can't believe I didn't answer your comment. Thank you for sharing the information. We have gone to Hotchkiss many times doing work for some water issues that are there and it is pretty sad. But a beautiful place and Wow the valleys are gorgeous. I pray they remain as they are and now and then I see many buildings going up here and there. Beautiful place. Thank you again for your reply and sorry I missed this. I always answer everyone and it is important as you are so important too. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Oh Brandy don't we all miss our mothers. I told God the day my Mother passed away, "I didn't think moms and dads died." Why did you allow that God? It was such a huge talk I had with God with tons of tears I thought wouldn't stop. But here we are still moving forward and remembering the best of our mothers. Glad Navajo Grandma could bring some wonderful memories and evening moments of missing how dear our mothers were and still are though we are not with them in body. They are aware of us truly. Love you. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for the generous words, you are so comforting. I completely agree with you. I'm sure your mother is up there in Heaven running around and bragging about her girl! Hug 🤗@@NavajoGrandma
Not only looks good, it is quite yummie. The best word for it. Try it, I have the recipe on my frybread video. Its nice to grill now and then. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Emanuel, why thank you for being proud of being Dine'. We do have wonderful food and yes we enjoy our Naneeskadi outside and that is my druthers. Your comment of Hozho made me smile and happy. Aheehe. Navajo Grandma

The spareribs I put into a cooker for 45 minutes and walla the skin just fell off and it was easy pickings and delicious!! That's it. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Well grandma you will so enjoy this and I promise you will be remembered forever. I used meat off the ribs I baked and it was melting in the mouth and tender. Oh my goodness! My son almost fainted. He was amazed at how wonderful it tasted. Gpa wanted more LOL! Its a taste that you can't but describe as heavenly. My Mom's cooking outside always made my mouth water. She was so wonderful and I sure miss her. Now go make great YUMMIE memories. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
My next videos will involve defining myself, a sober one, then excitedly moving towards Grandma shearing a sheep for you all. This is an opener with videos on the weaving loom, rugs, carding and spinning dowel with weaving accessories. Its getting exciting to learn more about Dine' textile. Please watch and learn. Hugs. Hi pretty girl, just say when and I am traveling and maybe that wish can come about. I would love to fix you a meal, and break bread with you. We had ribeye steaks with the desert chocolate brownies with a scoop of ice cream and hot chocolate swirled around on it. Goodness it was good. So let me know. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
Que rico! delicious!, im watching from Mexicali, my mom was not navajo, actually my dad is from Sonora and my mother from Chiapas, but she use to do me a flour tortilla with chilli Anaheim and carne asada, I miss my mom ;(
Hello to beatryxa from Mexicali. Thank you for your comment. Yes, your folks made wonderful tortillas and with lovely anaheim chili, yum. Isn't it amazing how we remember our wonderful parents with all the foods they prepared for us. Such heartstrings get tugged when we talk about food. Take care and remember your mother by writing down and making the types of foods she prepared and share them. You do have a story to tell. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

That looks so good we grown up eating like that , I buy New Mexico green chili s every year in August I would like to learn to grill the bread👍My Grandpa was born in 1899, in Los Lunas New Mexico & so it’s a family tradition to roast Chilie outside and my Grandparents & my Mom & Dad are all passed over to be with Out LORD JESUS I do it every year so does my sister I have Sis. She cooks so good. I cook like my Grandpa taught me..
We all miss our grandma, but her memories are wonderful and now pass on her legacy and do the things she use to do, cook, her kindness, her hugs, give it to others and see how grandma will come back in her spirit so many times. Pray for her and tell her how you feel. She is on this earth just in another sphere, the spirit world is here on this earth. Know this. This grandma loves you though and doing her best to teach you what your grandma would give a high five to. Smile. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Oh WOW!!. I love this. I agree you do need your own cooking show for sure. I would love to learn how to cook many of your dishes. Thank you and God Bless you...
@donnapollock Before you get excited there are a numbered amount of Navajo dishes to make. Adding other native tribal dishes would enhance this. Being in the reservation doesn't have a plethora of cuisine cooking. I see some Navajo culinary cooks that at times demean the original trying to hit that American cooking curve & destroy it's true meaning & taste. Hope u understand. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Oh my goodness! I can almost smell and taste that! I still make it for my friend's and myself. When the old cast iron wood fired cook stove was hot enough my mother would chuck chillies and other yummy veggies down on the top of the stove till they looked like your's! She alway's cooked enough so she could can them. Melt in your mouth! Thank you for sharing! A'HO 💚
Ahiya'ee Grandma Navajo. I am definitely making this tonight for my brother to try. He is Jewish and I am native but he absolutely loves any native dish I make.

Well thank you and I get that a lot. There must be many grandma's running around or use to run around looking and doing things like grandma. It is a compliment. Hugs to you. Navajo Grandma
I love this! Amazing! Love to learn from other cultures. Recently I discover that my kids have at least 13% Native in their DNA. Maybe it doesn't sound like much, but it makes me feel proud of my roots. I'm from Puerto Rico and for many years they made us believe that there was nothing left of that. But to this day there is still some of that heritage. Thanks for sharing your recipes and more. You are my new history teacher. Amazing all your knowledge. Many blessings to you!
That is awesome! Wonderful to hear about your children's ancestry. They need to learn more. What a blessing Rosalyn. Welcome again and I love sharing what I was taught and my children encouraged me to do this. Its not perfect videos as grandma does these herself, we get through to the world and you most of all. Dear Walle Pop, thank you for kind comment. It is the end goal that all may feel this connection and the real personal experience and teaching from a Navajo Grandma regarding her cultural breads. The intent is to teach, and the learning comes from actually engaging yourself on your own thru instruction from Navajo Grandma. Hoping all enjoy these micro mini lessons given from myself. Dine' life has become familiar to me through the writings of authors Hillerman and Thurlo. Thank you for showing me what fry bread and Navajo tacos are and how to prepare. You have raised my level of understanding. By the way: I apply my Grandmother's and Grandfather's teaching every day. My appreciation for them grows each day. How I wish they could know this. Celine I should not be promoting carbs or white flour, BUT it is hard. Remember white flour and all these ingredients are not good for our bodies. BUT I have tried talking myself into healthy eating, then THIS! Well this is what I was taught, "eat in moderation." Meaning DON'T MAKE THIS A HABIT. NIBBLE HERE AND THERE, just now and then. I don't want to promote bad eating habits BUT AGAIN, before you make this and eat this SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, BLESS IT, PRAY FOR THE CARBS TO SWEETLY FLOW THRU AND OUT YOUR BODY, but that the goodness and tasty parts will bring YOU JOY!! Hows that? Now go make it, Pray, enjoy and don't make it a habit. Navajo Grandma (now i feel better)
@Navajo Grandma oh I understand it's very hard sometimes especially when it has amazing flavor 😋 😄 yes I agree! My way of eating is "I eat to live, not live to eat", I've been eating as organic and little processed foods as possible. Actually now I'm going even deeper into learning how to preserve, can, jar and dry my fresh foods that I'm going to try to grow myself 🙂 food is definitely fuel and has to be respected in order to be good for our bodies. It all has to be in balance and I definitely give thanks for the food and for what it does for me! 🙂😊 thank you again for another great and helpful video!! It's very appreciated 😊

It's 1 a.m. And you're making me hungry. I've been making tortillas years, but wanted to see how others here make them. I wanted to see how you pat out the dough. I've seen frybread and tortillas deep fried, cooked on a hot pan with a thin film of oil which is healthier, and cooked on a dry comal/griddle. But Grandma, yours is the best. OMG, chiles and tortillas cooked over wood coals! I love Big Jims. Birds singing in the background, robins and jays... and the sound of clean, rushing wind! It must be spring, according to the birds? I'm vegetarian, but the whole thing still made me hungry. And you're the only one who also taught us new words. Thank you!
Becky, what kind compliments you have given to me. You just shared Hozho with me & that is complimentary. Watch my new video on Hozho. The food is yummie just how our grandparents fed us. I hope you have subscribed as I would love to hear your thoughts on these videos. They are simple and humble. Hugs, Navajo Grandma.
I came across your channel and it made me cry! Thank you for your recipes and sharing the Dine culture! I haven't had these tortillas since I was a small child when my grandfather used to make this! Now in my 30's, I will pick this back up! Greetings from Colorado!
Sorry this is not a cooking show. It's merely some foods of our Navajo reservation. There's no plethora it's only a few dishes we eat, enjoy & celebrate with. The few being eaten with moderation. Great positive comment! Hugs from Navajo Grandma

Im Navajo and during traveling a job to Utah from Abq, we passed through Shiprock. They stopped to eat at taco bell there, but I went to the roadside stand for a meal just like this. $5 for the naneeskadi & mutton w/ green chile, and a $1 for the root beer soda. Those guys in the truck with me were kicking themselves because it smelled sooooo guuud and i wouldnt share as they already ate at taco bell.
JEFF you smarty, you definitely made the best choice, of course. There is nothing like Naneeskadi, mutton and green chili’s. Nothing. Great comment shi yazhi. Ahehee. Navajo Grandma

Thank you so much, these are examples of what it was like out in the reservation with my Paternal grandparents. There was always cooked food outside and that is what I adore. My mother was a wonderful cook over the coals no matter what it was. Thank you for enjoying this. I love it always. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Watching you eat the food you prepare is better than watching chefs on the food network. Sometimes when my comfort foods hit my tastebuds I do a little dance haha
I know this is an old video, but I just discovered it today. I loved the anecdote about rich vs poor food, every dish has a story behind it, a memory of a person or culture. Thank you so much for sharing yours with the world. keep doing you and bringing joy.
What wisdom and kindness you gave to Navajo Grandma with Hozho. Hozho is giving "peace, beauty, balance and harmony. Thank you and yes it is something that we all need to know what others experienced thru life in these Native American reservations and how we survived and still do. There are always stories of these cultural and traditional ways. I just pray we as a people will retain these stories and show them and record them with gratitude from whence they came. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I am so happy I found this channel! My grandmother was Diné. She passed away shortly after my dad (her son) died in 1984. I was just 2 months old and I never knew my Navajo side. For years I felt the pain and emptiness of not having my grandma or father. But not only that... not having my identity as being Navajo. Not having family to tell me stories and teach me about my heritage. Finding Navajo Grandma's channel has helped to fill this void. It actually brings me to tears. Will you be my Navajo Grandma? Thank you for all of your videos. It makes such an amazing impact on my life and the life of others. I wish my native family was alive. I wish I knew how to speak Diné. Watching these videos helps me understand my ancestors and their way of life. I have never stepped foot on the reservation. There is so much of me, that I feel is missing. Thank you for bringing some of that back.
My dearest Christina, yes, I am your Navajo Grandma, maybe not in real life or by DNA but here I am and I am so honored. Thank you for finding grandma. I always say to those who are new, come sit by grandma and her fire and warm your feet, come listen and hear her stories, her life and see your culture and tradition's thru her eyes and how she grew up. I was given to my Paternal grandparents, just for you to know, our Paternal grandfather is called "Nali" and our Paternal grandmother is called "Bizhi." Our Maternal grandfather is called "chei" and our Maternal grandmother is called "shi masani" "Shi" means my, mine. You can say, "Shi Nali, Shi Bizhi, Shi Chei, Shi Masani." Then I have shared most of the times I spent with them, how we traveled in a wagon and just life in general and how they taught me. I never learned English until I was 10 years old as my father explained to some missionaries I didn't know how to speak english and how was I going to talk with them? They said no problem, they put oil on my head and gave me a blessing. When I met my white foster parents the first thing from my mouth was, "Hi Mom and Dad, my name is Frankie blah blah blah." I almost fainted but I knew exactly what I said, I heard everything everyone spoke, it was clear, it was so wonderful, it was like a light turning on, the joy it gave to me filled me with wonder and awe and just happiness. Like a light bulb turning on in a dark room. I always heard white folks talk as we were the only Navajo family who had moved into a white town long ago. I use to sing in english and knew every word and songs but didn't know what I was singing. Now I did and I was overjoyed. So that is my story and my language. I did forget some Dine' Bizaad but eventually being around Shi Bizhi and Shi Nali, it all came back to me so quickly. I loved it. You are blessed to grow up where you did and I hope you realize how wonderful your mother is. Someday you will go to the reservation and see who you are and how many of your people are suffering. That is why Navajo Grandma is running for Navajo Nation President. Its unheard of to have a woman for president but its time. Too many many Navajo men have failed thus its time for a woman to lead. It is a Matrilineal society so its just right. I hope you understand. Hugs always from Navajo Grandma
That Navajo/Apache friend of mine used to make beans and rice and tortillas.....those home-made tortillas make the store bought ones taste like crap.....even though there was no meat...you didn't miss it.....the seasoning she used made it taste soooo gooood.
I can't wait to try chiles in the coals, they look amazing! Thank you for your outdoor cooking techniques and love learning the language and hearing all the little stories!

Yes, I wish I could bring everyone of you to my home and we would camp out, cook and cook out, drink Navajo Tea, tell each other stories, wash our hair with Yucca, build a fire way out in the back country, sit and eat again, warm our feet, tell more stories, roll in the snow, scream our ears off and do it again. Happy thoughts. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Well Doug you never can say never. For now you have my recipe and lessen the recipe into half and make some Naneeskadi for yourself and family. Put some wonderful meat in there with baked Anaheim chili. It is food for the Gods. I promise. Navajo Grandma

I moved to texas and fell in love with the Mexican food and I know if I live in your neighborhood you’d never get rid of me I’d be eating at your house everyday. My friends in texas are just like that . Have you eaten! I never went hungry . I made sure that I learned to cook every Mexican dish before I moved. I’ve been in NH for two years and I hate it here. I miss my morning tacos and you have me drooling over here. There is not one place here that has any tacos Mexican or native . More native need to open up restaurants all over .crazy but all my life my friends have been native from many tribes . I just lost two very close friends brother and sister from the Dakota’s within three days of each other. Their parents were very gracious people and I miss them so much.
Sad to hear of the loss of dear friends. Aside from that, you had me rolling in laughter then sobered me up pretty quick with the last notes. I do understand what you are saying. I was in Japan and almost died without frybread. Their flour was too fine like pastry flour. Eventually I was able to make some and floated for a while then back to rice and teriyaki this and that. I have to admit it was delish though. All you need to do is fix the fixin for yourself and you won't need to search high and low for Mexican or Dine' food silly. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Why thank you for watching, I am realizing we love to watch people make food, it makes us desire how to make it and it always looks so YUMMIE. I hope with my schedule I can do more cooking.
@Navajo Grandma
I went to a trade school and took culinary arts as well as becoming a cook in the marine corps.

Howdy from western Colorado! Thanks for the lessons!

I'm definitely trying this out!!! 😁😍

Thank you!

Yup, nothing like home cooking. Yum galore. Navajo Grandma
I can't wait to try chiles in the coals, they look amazing! Thank you for your outdoor cooking techniques and love learning the language and hearing all the little stories!
Meaghan without you where would my stories and teachings be? Spread the word and know how important you are. Tell me how it tasted. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

What kind words of Hozho you give to Navajo Grandma.

I learned how to make fry bread at 8 years of age and I was talking to a friend about it a few days ago. I guess Google was listening in because your video appeared in my YT feeds. For once I don't mind them listening in because they lead me to your vids. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
So welcome again Mr. Dude, glad to have you watching and learning with joy. Navajo Grandma
Made my mouth water too!!!
It is yummie. Navajo Grandma
Living your bread. Will add to my collection of breads I make. This will be an excellent one to start making with my nephew and teach him.
Adam, it is delicious and when you make this Naneeskaadi, be sure to eat it with some nice meat and chili. Oh is it yummie. This bread is a tortilla much like the Spanish tortilla, only with less fat. My friend who is Spanish uses lard and I don't. Glad you are learning and helping your nephew to learn as well. So proud of you. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Looks so yummy. Thanks so much for sharing your culture.
My pleasure 😊 Navajo Grandma
Looks so delicious Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Red Barn Farms, welcome and a sorry it took so long to answer as I travel and make videos to share my NAVAJO culture with all you amazing folks. Hugs.
@@NavajoGrandma 😋😄
That looks amazing. Thank you for sharing these great recipes.
Why thank you for watching, I am realizing we love to watch people make food, it makes us desire how to make it and it always looks so YUMMIE. I hope with my schedule I can do more cooking. It’s a New Year and I hope my subscribers realize this is not a cooking class. I delve now and then as it is a part of the culture. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Ireally love to watch you , you remind me of my familey
