Beautiful little Boat! It was my second choice because I really love the look of the lapstrake construction! Last month I ended up buying a West Wight Potter 19 that I wanna raise the cabintop on and make it a little motor sailor jib sailing. I had a spinal cord injury which made me disabled so can't sail like i did 10 years ago so we make the best of it and motor when the wind isn't there or being uncooperative lol!
Nice little boat ... I always liked the look of the pho-planking on the hull. I can't believe that there was no water inside -- especially considering the broken hatch!!! That's a nice little find!!!
Thanks I was quite surprised to find it so dry and free of mold The hatch was closed but just laying there not dogged down and broken hinges for who knows how long
Beautiful looking boats. I bet it will look stunning when you have finished with it. I watch David Young's channel, he has one called Tramontana an absolutely beautiful Montgomery 17. I love the clinker look to the hull. Look forward to seeing your future vids of this project. All the best, Paul.👍🏻⛵
the fact it eas so dry and no mould tells you all you need to know its a good boat wont need much to get in the water ,these are amazing boats good size roomy inside comfortable for sitting on those rainy weekend sail trips, better than a compact or precision
I’m looking forward to getting it in the water and sailing it I have completed a few projects already(upcoming videos) Thanks for your comment and watching
That's going to be a great project! I'm looking forward to watching you bring it back. I've always thought the Montgomerys were the neatest looking boats.
Looks like you may have a 1977 and 1982 model M17. As fate would have it, I have ended up with two M17s of the same model years also. I really like your mast raising and lowering system. In my opinion there is no better built, better performing, more seaworthy small boat under 20 feet ever made.
It is great that you have folks on the look out for good boats for you to rehab. Looks like a great project. Question: How do you have your gin pole secured to the mast step so that it does not slide out on you? It looked very stable, much more secure than what I have setup. Thanks
I just have a line tied around the base And the bottom of the gin pole is a carpeted piece with a notch cut out that kind of fits around it If you go back about a dozen videos, I show how it all works on a Com-Pac 23 This is the same setup as that video Thanks for watching
So close in number, I have #406. As far as I know, and of the boats on the Montgomery Owner's group, "Tea", my boat might be one of the very first with the composite centreboard.
@@theboatnik1328 yes, it is also the rare model with 4 berths instead of three and a deep storage well in the cockpit. Not that either of the quarter berths are usable by anything but small children.
What is the material, length etc. of that raising and lowering pole. Some friends have done that with I think a 2x8 plank but it would be nice to use the metal material. Raise and lower my M-17 mast with a pully system but your set up looks easier and safer.
It is aluminum tubing If you go to my youtube channel ( The Boatnik) and go back roughly a dozen episodes I did a couple of videos on it and raising the mast on a Com-Pac 23 Thanks
Oh boy, two Montgomerys 17s!! I can not wait to hear your opinions on these two M17s. Have you made any progress on the other? Video? Is the Com Pac 16 still there?😀
I have made a new mast for the older Montgomery and working on the standing rigging for it I still have a CP 16 for sale and another one I pretty much have finished which I am currently sailing when I have time Thanks for watching
Did you video any of that, and are you planning to show those soon? I really enjoy watching you work!! How many boats do you typically work on at one time?@@theboatnik1328
@@chipevans5715 yes there will be videos upcoming of both Montgomerys I wanted to finish up videos of the last Com-Pac16 first I jump around from boat to boat while waiting on epoxy to cure, for parts to come in, etc.

I’ve never owned a Potter, but always heard good things about them
Good luck with your project
Hope it works out well

I have completed several projects on it now( upcoming videos) and am pleased so far
I think they look nice too, especially in the water
Congrats. Looks like it just needs some TLC. She'll be shipshape and out on the water before you know it.
It will need a bit of work but not too bad
Thanks for watching
a power washer would take care of most of the gunk that makes her look so unappealing right now.

I kind of like the older layout maybe better for me

Is yours an ‘82 or ‘83?
@@theboatnik1328 1986 actually, at least according to the DMV.
I guess yours has lead ballast to go along with the composite centerboard?
