quick note on the big boars, you're only able to backstab (buttstab) the boar in Undead Burg because that spot is exposed on his armour, whereas in the Archives if you look closely there's an additional cover, that looks like a tiny shield on his butt, hiding that spot to prevent you from backstabbing them again
im still traumatized when i stick the whole spear into its butt on my first play through

About a week ago Hot Cheatos killed me just outside the Ornstein and Smough door. I didn't have anymore humanity. So I had to go back to depths and farm.

My first encounter while breaking out of prison went much different than yours. Those lizards ran right past me and derped out on the ladder, distracting me, while tentacle waifus closed in for the kill. Then when I respawned, the sound had stopped, somehow, and every single enemy was patiently waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs lol. Had a rough time down there.

There's an easier way to get Avelyn, as stated on the wiki:
Begin by rotating the stairs so that the lower part is connected to the side closest to the item chest.
Walk down the stairs and onto the "solid ground" of this level.
Open your inventory and close it to force an autosave.
Walk back up the stairs and toggle the controls to rotate the stairs once.
Quit the game.
Load your savegame. You should now be on the platform above the bookcase with the chest on it. The stairs should be rotated away from you so you can walk off the ledge.
WALK off the ledge and land on the bookshelf. You should take 50-60% of your total life from this fall.
Grab the item from the chest.

I found this today because my baby was crying and I did a very rare quit and save not at a bonfire.
I do wanna point out that even though you did do a really thorough job, there are two items you missed and didn't mention. In the room where you first encounter Seath, after killing him, go back there, and you find a Soul of a Great Hero and the Large Magic Ember, so it is worth going back there, but only after killing Seath.

agreed. I love these vids by FightinCowboy, but you need to remember this is am amazing general walkthrough of the game, but you need to be very careful if you care about trophy/achievement hunting, as Cowboy does many things that are trophy killer/breakers.

Also when you get the second key go back to the bonfire prison and open the second door, drop for a soul item
After like 30 tries, I finally landed on the chest area, only to get so excited that I immediately rolled off and instantly got slaughtered without opening the chest.

For Avellin to make it easier after you turn the stairs the first time. Get the chest with Twinkling titanite. Go back and turn stairs again. Save. Load. You’ll be back on the side with the chest without any way out but to fall on that very bookcase. (Everything will be revived and still suggest using a cursed ring)

I think they patched this because every time I try, it spawns me on the side opposite the chest.
This still works as of March 2023! Be careful because archers will shoot at you (they will respawn), just bone it out as soon as you get Avellin!

Those 2 boar’s have armor on there butts so you can’t backstab cheese then the first boar is the only one you can backstab from what I remember
I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty happy with this walkthrough if you don't know how to lower the fog from the gates, well just go back in the previous walkthroughs it's there. when you defeat the four kings the fog will be gone, you can't expect him to tell you that fact in every video.

@@CasperTheGhost64 you need to either talk to frampt or kaathe after ringing the two bells... they will explain how you need to place the lords vessel. once this is done you actually see the fog disappear for these areas.
he did explain it in a prior video.
making a dark souls walkthrough is VERY tough because you might not have done some things which were already explained in previous videos. It's not linear and some things have pre-requisites. Some things are even locked out on your play-through if you did/didn't do something in time.
I have watched his videos from part 1 till now to see how much I have missed through my playthroughs... apparently there are quite a lot of items and even content I completely missed before getting the end credits.

For anyone doing the walkthough: I think Cowboy missed a couple items (a soul and a set of armor and the white seance ring. This is how to get them:
New Doors - Now that you're alive and well, work your way down the stairs and open any of the cells that you can (some may be locked) and search the cells to their entirety - some of them hold Crystal Soldiers inside, so beware. One of them will have the Archive Prison Extra Key in it. With the key acquired, run up the stairs. If you saved Rhea from getting killed by Petrus, she will be in cell right before the one that lead to the key. She will be hollow now though, so do her a favour and end her misery. She will drop 7 humanity and the Ivory Talisman, in the same room, you find a Large Soul of a Proud Knight. After cleaning this cell, continue moving upstairs and climb the ladder. When you get to the top, ignore the door for now and walk left. Drop down on to a ledge and into another cell to find the Maiden Armor set and the White Seance Ring inside. You can drop down in here again to land next to your bonfire. Go back up the stairs and use that key on the one locked cell door you passed on the way down to find a Large Soul of a Brave Warrior and a Crystal Soldier.
Not throwing shade just writing this for the sake of thoroughness lol.
He did go into all of the cells that you mentioned, but in this walkthrough we didn’t get to rheas quest at all! So she wasn’t in the cell, meaning no humanities! But yes it’s def good to be thorough, and never a bad idea to look up a short written summary of all possible interactions per area as there’s so many ways to progress through the game ^^
if you have a sword you can thrust attack the crystal skellies thru the bars, killing them like a proverbial pig in a poke versus walking in the cells and facing them in melee.
There is actually a cheesy way to get the avelyn, when the bottom of the stairs is above the shelf with the chest, wait for a couple of seconds(10+sec) for the game to save, and then run and turn the lever, after the lever is fully turned, quit and join again, when you get back you will be placed on top of the ledge right above the shelf with the chest. Also kill all enemies just to be safe when doing this method.
P. S. Im playing the prepare to die version so notbsure if it will work in remaster, and keep trying sometimes when you join back you can be placed in the other room with the bonfire.
Edit: forgot to mention, the aprt when the bottom of the stairs is on top of the shelf with the chest, your position should be at the lowest step of the stairs.

This has probably already been said in the comments but I'm not scrolling through all of them. There is an easier way to get Avellyn. You can see it in Epicnamebro's lorethrough. For quiting/reloading, the game requires "stable" ground. Same for the green smoke for your souls after you die.
The moving staircases do not count as "stable" ground. So you if you go to the ledge above where Avellyn is (where the lower part the staircase stops), then go up the stairs and move them, then quit/reload while on the stairs, that ledge will be the last "stable" ground you were on so that is where you will be when you reload. And because you moved the stairs, they will be out of the way and you can drop down onto the bookcase where Avellyn is.

So going through the prison area I saw a soul item you missed in this walkthrough on a high, apparently inaccessible area shelf across from the horn underneath the staircase.
The way to get to it is in from your cell where the three skellies are. Open the cage door next to them (you might need the extra key-dont remember which one it was), go out on the ledge and take a right, fall down to another ledge, follow that to the item.
Then, keep falling on ledges down to the bottom… right near the horn! Makes for a quick shortcut to the bottom to turn off the noise.
wouldn’t recommend kindling the bonfire in the big hall because you can warp to firelink to get 20 estus and then warp back to the archives at the same bonfire in the hall

Those tentacle things paired with the music absolutely terrified me, I thought they were gonna one shot me and send me back to the start of the game or smth bcs even the lizards were running (turns out they were just blocking the gate)

Just a note here. The boars are especially weak to thrust attacks. Thrust attacks Peirce their armor from any side.
I love this walkthrough! I'm on ng+ atm and I decided this time around I wanted to get the alternate cutscene from the fight with Sif. It's so helpful knowing I can just jump ahead to the parts that'll help me in the order I need them and then just go back later.
For getting the Avelyn, what worked for me was an equip load of 63.0/144.0 with 40 endurance. This made it to where as soon as my character was done going through the mechanism turning animation I started down the rotating staircase (just moving forward as soon as I was able to control my character again, not sprinting and not stopping) and the timing was perfect to land right on the bookshelf with the Avelyn.
Wearing each piece of Havel's armor with a claymore, black knight shield and longbow equipped plus Havel's ring and Ring of Favor and Protection gave me the weight of 63.0
(Not sure if rings contribute to weight).
Just a little tip, after you kill Seath and buy all of Logan’s spells, he’ll end up in the fake boss room and try to kill you, when you kill him you’ll be able to steal his stuff and get an ember as well, although the ember chest might spawn if you died to Seath, and not when Logan goes crazy.
Late to the party on this game as a whole, but just beat Bloodborne and buddy said try this series again. Further now than first time I played. Great series, but man I wish I watched this video before I went into the boss room. Lost almost three levels of souls thanks to this dude... Your content is great, got a sub from me.

You missed the maiden armor set and seance ring. walk of the platform to the left of the door where you climb up that big ass ladder at the top of the stairs in the area where your imprisoned. drop down and to the right is the set
for anyone having trouble with the boars you can cheese them from outside the archway with ranged or jumping attacks, just turtle behind a high stability shield and lead them back to the entrance. lightning spear from sen’s works pretty well

There was a set of maiden armor and a ring if you look around after climbing the top ladder after turning off alarm. Small wooden platform to the left of landing, small drop to the cell.

I made it on the chest bookcase after 4 tries only to get shot in the back by the archers on the stairs.
when making the jump for the crossbow i have tip regarding how to make that jump everytime easely,as soon as you done (mid roll walking speed)turning the cog start walking of the dge you should make it everytime like this,no rolling no sprinting,just walk

After you climb the ladder and open the big doors don't go through it. Take a left onto the wooden platform, drop of it to the following platform (expect fall damage) and enter the cell for a full set + ring
Thank you so much for this guide, I got my complete gear set right before this section, farmed a Silver Knight Great Shield, got that to +4(need 4 more twinkling for +5) and got the Ornstein Armor set with the Child's Mask. my 2nd ring is the Wolf Ring, a Long Bow+15 and the Black Knight Great Sword+5 to top it off :)
Man, I did Duke's Archives first after getting the Lordvessel. I thought it was hard just because I was in the endgame... after I got to the other areas (with the exception of Demon Ruins), they all seemed like a joke! I also accidentally killed Andre early in my run, so no boss weapons or anything over +5.
I guess that's one way to git gud. XD
I agree, Duke's Archives is a lot harder than New Londo Ruins for example. Painted World of Ariamis is also a little difficult, but Duke's Archives is more. Tomb of the Giants is boring because of darkness

Creepy music room, above bonfire is the maidens set and the white seance ring. To get them from the bonfire head left up the stairs to the ladder. Climb and once up top go left again across the platform drop down and head into the cell. Edit- In the next episode he gets it on the way back to get Big Hat Logan
The section after the first bonfire was extremely difficult to a first timer like me. i almost had to put the game down but when i found out through this video that the skeletons are meant to hit harder because of crystal weapons AND that damn shaman buffs them i was sort of relieved and determind to keep going!. thanks!
I’m always amused by Cowboy’s pronunciation of things in this game, as he’s the only person I’ve ever come across that pronounces Anor Londo like Annor Londo (and not An-or Londo like everyone else) and he also is the only person I’ve seen pronounce Lost Izalith as Lost E-zalith (and not Lost I-zalith like everyone else I’ve seen). Originality is appreciated!

First boar will not cross the exit, so you can stay in safety just right outside the exit and hit it. Also hitting them is like getting parried, that makes it difficult for me.
You seem so clumsy with the great sword.
I've been playing with the Black Knight sword, and it does similar damage, but handles so much better.

3rd play through and just realized that you have to go back to the first Seath room to get the large magic ember. Cowboy doesn’t mention this in the walkthrough that I’m aware of. Also, if you are playing as a mage, definitely lookup Logan’s quest… essential mage gear
First off thank you Cowboy for all your videos, because of you I got the platinum on Sekiro and decided to give DSR a go. Not sure if it works every time, but for the chest on the bookshelf that you have to drop down while the staircase spins I quit the game while by the control for the stairs and restarted it. When I loaded back in I was on the banister right above the bookshelf with the stairwell rotated so I had a clear drop straight down and got it first try.
Black Iron set + Gold Hemmed Black Hood + Black Knight Greatsword = Ringwraith

1: Turn the stairs so you can get across (Walking off the lower side) above the bookcase with chest. Make sure to walk off stairs.
2: Get back on the stairs and turn it so the higher end is above that bookcase with chest.
3: While standing on the stairs quit game and log back in. You will now be standing on the side above the bookcase with chest.
4: The stairs should be so you can't walk back on. Walk off the ledge without rolling, and you will fall right on that bookcase and have your fancy crossbow with minimum risk.
Fall Control helps if you are afraid of dying.
This walkthrough is almost over :( although i am looking forward for Cowboy's PvP/build/Co-op vids

Here is a way to get the Avelyn that I found from the wiki:
"Stand on the ledge above it (at the bottom of the stairs) for 10+ seconds. Sprint up and activate the stair, wait until it has rotated 180 degrees, then quit and reload your game. You should now find yourself back on the ledge, above the shelf, with the stairs turned the other way. Drop down."
Those two tentacle waifus are also making some human like crying sounds. When I first killed them before watching this walkthrough I thought had committed a sin, as I had killed the infected gatekeeper dude in front of the daughter of chaos as well, not realizing he was not an enemy NPC. I thought those two tentacle waifus were a similar situation so I decided to check here to make sure lol.
I am cursed by Seath the scaleless. My HP now halved and am unable to warp to remove the curse !!!
im now playing this part, such a bad gaming experience... but cant give up... hope I deal with it quickly and leave, and never come back. reminds me of that horrible dungeon in bloodborne. This is why I love Sekiro, there are no annoying areas.

to get avelyn, as soon after you turn the wheel on staircase, just run off (not sprint, not walk, I mean the normal moving speed). you'll land the bookcase every time.
Dukes Archives was my favorite. So was Lost Izalith.
Just a note in case anyone is wondering. The armored boars need to be parried while charging at you, and then u can backstab them.
There's an item you dropped down for at the ladder in the beginning of this episode. Gives a full set and ring.

For anyone stuck on the boars you can cheese them. Aggro them and lure them to the entrance of the hallway with the small stairs. Move to the right corner just out of reach. The boar won't come down, it will keep hitting the corner of the pillar. Just shoot it with fire arrows. The second boar will follow you all the way there as well and it works on him. I couldn't do shit for damage with my +15 uchigatana so I had no choice but cheese
Pretty late to the party i know, but did he open the other door by the 3 skeletons in the bonfire cell? If you open that door with the Archive Prison Extra Key you can drop down to a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
Blows my mind how high of a level he is in the archives. I’m level 73 right now just got passed it 😅
The reason you didn't notice the stairs there on your 2nd Avelyn attempt is because it wasn't there - turning one staircase rotates both of them
Very happy I dipped into attunement and a bit of int and fth just to gain access to a few spells. Great Chaos Fireball and Chaos Storm have been pretty helpful a few times now as nukes with a bit of bonus lava damage on the backend (made the boars hilariously easy as I just had them sit in the lava and think about how life brought them to this point while I just sit there with BK shield while they roast).
There's a chest with a sorcery after the second channeler in the archives

this place isn't so bad. I only died once (not counting Seath), when the snake people up top the ladder by the waifu chamber were more aggressive than expected and I panic-rolled off over the ladder platform. The crystal skeletons are easy as hell to parry/riposte, it's like doing it to the hollows at the beginning of the game. Though, I didn't bother with the Avelin thing
There is a cheese for the boar at the start of the vid. Run all the way down the hallway until you Aggro the boar. Then, turn around and run all the back to the door way and jump out. He’ll attack one time but after he does he’ll turn around and start walking back to where he was. Then you can hit him as much as you like and he won’t turn and fight you.
One tip while trying to get Avelyn: before you drop from the turning ladder, go to options and click in the “leave game” option but don’t click yes ‘till you jump. If you fail, click yes while in middle air and try again.

If you attack the illusion of *Gwynevere* , the area gets dark and all of the other enemies (besides the *painted guardians* ) will disappear. However you will get a few new NPCs in the area. I assume these NPCs are *Darkmoon blades* , plus the *Bronze Knight* Will actively hunt you down. Once dead, they will not respawn.
Both of those bull's at the start dropped the bull helm for me. 😂

I want that greatsword so baaaad.
Use the Zweihander from the beginning. Bring it to +15 and it will make almost as much damage as the black knight greatsword (with str and dex) and it has an even better moveset. Enjoy the pancake strong attack ;D

My claymore is in +10 and lightning damage. I'm going to use Zweihander now with fire damage.
Get demon greataxe to 15+, it gets a S strength scaling, upgrade strength to 50 and then you deal 650+ damage and around 900 when using your two handed R2. Does way more damage than black knight greatsword, you can buff it too so combine that with some kind of resin or darkmoon blade, crystal blade, or sunlight blade. Then use power within and red tearstone ring and kill any boss in like 2 hits. *BECOME UNSTOPPABLE*

So since you never got the mask I was wondering how good the mask of the mother is? That's the one that i got and the extra HP is nice but I have no idea if it's worth it over a more defensive helmet or something

You only really need anor londo bonfire if you accidentally homeward bone after farming and leaving painted world in the room with the white robe assasins. If the bridge is spiraled at darkmoon tomb then you gotta go back the long way since the homeward bone takes you to the anor londo bonfire. It really sucks falling and losing those souls you farmed, or go back thru sens fortress.

Btw cowboy u missed an item at the second bonfire of the lvl: right after dying to seath. There’s a locked door where the three crystal losers are by the bonfire
