Okay, first of all many of us were like 6 when this game came out, chill. Second, the game never requires you to build any complex bridges to beat the game, simply one to two jump sections so the more difficult stuff to find requires some ingenuity that most kids probably don’t think of.

Yeah, I was surprised he said that the soundtrack was forgettable. I played the game a shit-ton too and even twenty-ish years later I can hum about 80% of the soundtrack. The miniboss music, "Masker", is a freaking classic.

Oh man, this was one of my favorite games growing up and I had no idea there was a “true” ending. I hope to finish the Bomberman 64 the Second Attack some day.
Hero is definitely a step down in my eyes but it seems to be the favorite of most people so I still say give it a shot if you have an N64 (the game itself is very cheap to purchase). As for The Second Attack, I've never played it myself and it looks like I'm never going to be able to since the physical cart alone costs over $100 online.
Hey! Bomberman 64 had some great music IMO. Blue Resort, Altair 1 & 2, & White Glacier to name a few. Though, Completeing this game back in the day SUCKED if you didn't have a memory pack.
Since two of my favorite video game characters (Mimi and Nyami from Pop'n Music) got introduced into Super Bomberman R recently, having never played a Bomberman game before, I decided to look into this video. Bless your heart, but also thanks for telling us to attempt to pick up the original release instead of the Wii U version!
I see Bomberman 64 the second attack in the background. Why does nobody talk about this game? It is one of my favorites to this day. It was excellent back then and in my opinion holds up really well today. It is far from perfect but I am sick of it living in the shadow of the incredibly inferior Bomberman 64.
I think that's going to change soon hopefully, same with Hero, even Bomberman 64 isn't talked about all that much really. Only downside is that once it gets "discovered" the price will go up even more, get it while you still can.
It's probably because, like the other bomberman games, it doesn't hold up very well in general (and the 2D bomberman games tend to age better in comparison). It's ok, but I got it when it was cheaper than it is now and was still very underwhelmed. I think these games were a bit niche at the time and more so now. I traded my copy not long after getting it, maybe it's just not my thing. Can't imagine paying what it goes for now.
Bomberman 64 and Hero have aged visually, but not as much in TSA Saturn Bomberman is great, it's easily one of the best Bombermn games. The N64 games had more experimentation and variety, though obviously there is some age to them with inconsistent framerate, but that's to be expected on N64
The only thing that frustrated me as a kid with second attack is that pommy couldn't help with boss battles so your player 2 had to basically sit there and watch. It was really bad in the final boss battles because it ended up being an hour of your friend or family watching you try to win.
Another episode without a visit to Skull Island, huh? I'm glad that, as bad as the destruction of nostalgia can be sometimes, nothing about this classic treated you outright unfairly. Thanks for the video, Jirard, and I'll be looking forward to the next one!

I never finished this game as a child. You mentioned the secret true boss and didn't explain it. The one thing I wanted to know wasn't included. Great review but now I must search for another video.
My memory of this also includes Blockbuster video. We had a sleepover at a buddy’s house. We rented this and we were stoked to it. My buddy fell asleep with controller in hand while we were attempting the co op section. Fast forward twenty years. The same dude stays at my house. We played some co op Gears 4. Fell asleep again the same way.
Man, when we played this as kids, we LOVED the multiplayer. What was unique is that, even after you die, you stay on the field as a "ghost" that can latch onto someone still in the game and take control of his/her movements. So even though you are out of winning, you don't actually stop playing... and can get some sweet, sweet revenge on your older brother who just knocked you out. Mwahahaha!
Aside from the intro, you couldn't think of 1 memorable song from the game!? *_WHAT!? WHAT ABOUT THE CREDITS!? THAT'S 1 OF THE GREATEST GAME SONGS OF ALL TIME!_* I listened to it for hours!
Yeah, Goemon's Great Adventure was one of my favorite platformers for the N64. Jirard should definitely do a review of the N64 Goemon games so they have more public exposure. I was ticked off that so many games in the franchise are exclusive to Japan.

I know Bradley loves that game too, so now that you've done this, he and I are both counting down the minutes to when you complete that.

I SEE THAT BOMBERMAN 64 THE SECOND ATTACK IN THE BACKGROUND! One of my absolute favorite games on the entire console. So much more polished than the first game.
Did they fix the boss gold card glitch for the re-release? I know that in the 64 version, if you completed any of the non-bomber bosses with 4 gold cards, it would not let you obtain the 5th one. This caused me a lot of grief in my first playthrough, and a lot of resetting my console when I accidentally killed bosses without getting that 5th card.
I will always be peeved at that one because of the hidden pet evolutions. They are just so much better than all of the others and you'd never find them accidentally. Otherwise it's okay.
Gameplay-wise, Bomberman Generation is a pretty good sequel to the single player mode. It also has in my oppinion the best multiplayer mode in the series.
There was, it's called Bomberman HERO. Play the Japanese version, it let's you save and take breaks without losing your unlocked extra health The second game (Bomberman 64 2) was only released in japan.
To be completely honest, you're better off playing the sequel, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack. The story mode has more diverse level designs; a better narrative; more bomb weapons; armor upgrades; an upgradeable second player character; and much more manageable puzzles. There are far fewer instances of having to use overly complex bomb bridges or bomb ladders to find hidden items as I recall. Having to collect all gold cards at once in a stage under a time limit is utterly asinine. Regarding multiplayer mode, The Second Attack has more match types, but I personally found the circular bomb explosions in the first game to be harder to avoid in multiplayer mode and it therefore felt more frantic and fun to me.
This brought me back. Thank you for reminding me how much a pain this game was. And how my friends and I would punch each other out of anger upon getting killed in multiplayer.
Me and my friend got into a few arguments about Second Attack VS Hero... I was on the side of Second attack. Largely because it had a jrpg-ish plot in a time when those didn't seem as dry, and expectations were different.
Sorry, man, but I simply cannot agree with your opinion about the music. My family rented Bomberman 64 once in 1999 when I was 8 years old. Even after returning the game after our rental period was up, I was still whistling tunes like Green Garden, Blue Resort, the boss battle theme and multiplayer battle theme all the way until I got my own copy of the game in 2017 at age 16. It is, to date, my favorite Bomberman OST followed closely behind by Bomberman Tournament. Oh and, before anyone comes in here with that "Dur hur hur you got it confused with Bomberman Hero, bruh" crap that I've seen so many times in this very comment section, no. In fact, for the longest time, I thought Bomberman Hero as a game was gutter trash and didn't bother remembering any music from it with the exception of the File Select theme (which is just the theme from the original Bomberman so... yeah). A couple of years back, I replayed the game from start to finish and got more of an appreciation for it though I still don't think Hero, the game or the music (including Redial), comes close to 64.
Ah my first bomber man game, never reached the 120 gold card mark but I did love the 3D adventure it provided along with the fun multiplayer where if you stun someone, you can just throw them to their doom.
2:31 O M F G I PLAYED THAT!!! There was a really small retro gaming convention, where people could display their own games and stuff. There was stuff like Steel Battalion and also a room full with old computers playing that gam. Its been over 10 years I went there, and I allways had that in mind but I couldn't remember the name.
Sirius tells you about bomb bridges in-game, even including pictures. The bad ending also displays some useful ones. Still, it is certainly frustrating and challenging. You do not forget those bosses, for a spectrum of reasons. At least the tiled surfaces, 8-direction limit to movement, easy-to-use camera, and tiered toss distances make bridges and combat a matter of measurement to some degree. After having played Super Mario 64, that had been a huge relief.
This was one of the first N64 games I had as a child and I loved it. I played through the game casually and enjoying my time and started thinking "You know what, let's try and get all those golden cards." So I did. Then I beat the final boss and HOLY FUCK what is happening? Did he just incinerate the final boss and steal the cube? That backstabbing bastard!
BRUH I 100% completed this game years ago as a teenager, having revisited it years after "beating it" as a kid. My mind was blown looking at nearly how much I missed as a kid.

It's actually what made me curious to check out this episode of your show. Cause I had no idea what this game looked like.
The thing I'll always remember most of Bomberman 64 was thinking the game was a little easy & kiddie but trying to earn the parts for the multiplayer costumes. In for a penny in for a pound I went and got all the Gold Cards eventually... holy... bleep. Beating the boss after getting all the cards and watching the tutorial help guy that had been helping you the whole time MURDER the boss in cold blood and set out to take over the universe was like... what? Did this game just jump up a maturity level. The Rainbow world is also INSANELY tricky to get everything in putting your skills to the ultimate test. I'll also never forget seeing the story continue in Bomberman 64 The Second Attack with even more emphasis on story and even Regulous returning as a secondary plot centric character. That game also upped it's ante when you complete everything. It's easy to see why both games will run you $400 to get on N64 - they're classics.
Loved this game when I was a kid. I got it for my birthday, I had asked for Super Mario 64 but got Bomberman 64 instead, and honestly, it wasn't a bad trade off. Though yeah, there are rough points in the game, I remember one particular boss fight on a raft that if you didn't have an extra heart and bomb upgrades, you were in for a rough fight.
I think the first time the game "tells" you about bomb bridges is during the incomplete ending credits. Lots of little gameplay snippets in there of bridges being made and used, and I remember my mind being blown as a kid when I realized just what the possibilities were.
I remember drawing a lot of bomberman fan art after I played BM64, maaaan. . I had a BLAST playing it. Would love to play it again. Had some sick tunes!
Tons of nostalgia for this one as it was one of the very first games me and my brothers got for the N64. Played it a lot. And I actually really like the music. It's simple, but catchy. I especially LOVE the credits music, gets stuck in my head all the time.

The only thing the memory card was required for was saving custom characters for battle mode. Everything else was saved directly to the cartridge...

Besides the path of pain, it's not a hard game to complete at all, its really well balanced. Plus, it's awesome =)

Gameplay-wise, Bomberman Generation is a pretty good sequel to the single player mode. It also has in my oppinion the best multiplayer mode in the series.
Well was thinking of a direct sequel after second attack or maybe a sequel to Hero WHICH, if Jirad see this, does have memorable sound track
The soundtrack to Hero was the shit! Definately (to me atleast) the highlight of Jun Chikuma's work with the series.

To be completely honest, you're better off playing the sequel, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack. The story mode has more diverse level designs; a better narrative; more bomb weapons; armor upgrades; an upgradeable second player character; and much more manageable puzzles. There are far fewer instances of having to use overly complex bomb bridges or bomb ladders to find hidden items as I recall. Having to collect all gold cards at once in a stage under a time limit is utterly asinine. Regarding multiplayer mode, The Second Attack has more match types, but I personally found the circular bomb explosions in the first game to be harder to avoid in multiplayer mode and it therefore felt more frantic and fun to me.
It's a great game! Bummer they didn't release it in Europe, so I was never aware of it until much later...

I thought that game was boring and very slow.
It’s pretty easy except for the final stage and bosses, but an enjoyable enough experience for me.
And of course some of the hidden items might require a guide.
Now I’m just reminded of the one skit, “Bomberman, shake it violently to make it get BIGGER!”

Bomberman Heroes is a better N64 Bomberman game.
Me and my friend got into a few arguments about Second Attack VS Hero... I was on the side of Second attack. Largely because it had a jrpg-ish plot in a time when those didn't seem as dry, and expectations were different.
Bomberman Heroes was dull as hell to me. The music and platforming elements were very bland to me.
Bomberman Hero has no multiplayer.

FINALLY! The highlight of this episode was Jirard teasing a Hollow Knight episode! This game is the best Metroidvania out there.

Sorry, man, but I simply cannot agree with your opinion about the music. My family rented Bomberman 64 once in 1999 when I was 8 years old. Even after returning the game after our rental period was up, I was still whistling tunes like Green Garden, Blue Resort, the boss battle theme and multiplayer battle theme all the way until I got my own copy of the game in 2017 at age 16. It is, to date, my favorite Bomberman OST followed closely behind by Bomberman Tournament.
Oh and, before anyone comes in here with that "Dur hur hur you got it confused with Bomberman Hero, bruh" crap that I've seen so many times in this very comment section, no. In fact, for the longest time, I thought Bomberman Hero as a game was gutter trash and didn't bother remembering any music from it with the exception of the File Select theme (which is just the theme from the original Bomberman so... yeah). A couple of years back, I replayed the game from start to finish and got more of an appreciation for it though I still don't think Hero, the game or the music (including Redial), comes close to 64.

Ah my first bomber man game, never reached the 120 gold card mark but I did love the 3D adventure it provided along with the fun multiplayer where if you stun someone, you can just throw them to their doom.
I always loved the character designs for this one. Wish they would bring them back!

2:31 O M F G I PLAYED THAT!!! There was a really small retro gaming convention, where people could display their own games and stuff. There was stuff like Steel Battalion and also a room full with old computers playing that gam. Its been over 10 years I went there, and I allways had that in mind but I couldn't remember the name.

Sirius tells you about bomb bridges in-game, even including pictures. The bad ending also displays some useful ones.
Still, it is certainly frustrating and challenging. You do not forget those bosses, for a spectrum of reasons. At least the tiled surfaces, 8-direction limit to movement, easy-to-use camera, and tiered toss distances make bridges and combat a matter of measurement to some degree. After having played Super Mario 64, that had been a huge relief.
Can’t wait to see that one guy who makes a google account called “Bill From Blockbuster” to say: “I’m sorry Jirard for doing that to you.”
This was one of the first N64 games I had as a child and I loved it. I played through the game casually and enjoying my time and started thinking "You know what, let's try and get all those golden cards." So I did. Then I beat the final boss and HOLY FUCK what is happening? Did he just incinerate the final boss and steal the cube? That backstabbing bastard!
What's kinda funny is that he says, 'if you missed Prince of Persia, you can click on it right here,' but it shows Wind Waker HD for me.
BRUH I 100% completed this game years ago as a teenager, having revisited it years after "beating it" as a kid. My mind was blown looking at nearly how much I missed as a kid.

As a non-Nintendo fan who loves video game music, this game has some of the best music I've heard in a while. "Blue Resort" is a wondrously good track. It's actually what made me curious to check out this episode of your show. Cause I had no idea what this game looked like.
My favorite music of any Bomberman game was in this game. Had really good tunes.

The thing I'll always remember most of Bomberman 64 was thinking the game was a little easy & kiddie but trying to earn the parts for the multiplayer costumes. In for a penny in for a pound I went and got all the Gold Cards eventually... holy... bleep.
Beating the boss after getting all the cards and watching the tutorial help guy that had been helping you the whole time MURDER the boss in cold blood and set out to take over the universe was like... what? Did this game just jump up a maturity level. The Rainbow world is also INSANELY tricky to get everything in putting your skills to the ultimate test.
I'll also never forget seeing the story continue in Bomberman 64 The Second Attack with even more emphasis on story and even Regulous returning as a secondary plot centric character. That game also upped it's ante when you complete everything. It's easy to see why both games will run you $400 to get on N64 - they're classics.
Loved this game when I was a kid. I got it for my birthday, I had asked for Super Mario 64 but got Bomberman 64 instead, and honestly, it wasn't a bad trade off. Though yeah, there are rough points in the game, I remember one particular boss fight on a raft that if you didn't have an extra heart and bomb upgrades, you were in for a rough fight.
I think the first time the game "tells" you about bomb bridges is during the incomplete ending credits.
Lots of little gameplay snippets in there of bridges being made and used, and I remember my mind being blown as a kid when I realized just what the possibilities were.

Tons of nostalgia for this one as it was one of the very first games me and my brothers got for the N64. Played it a lot. And I actually really like the music. It's simple, but catchy. I especially LOVE the credits music, gets stuck in my head all the time.
