The OST is totally worthy of listening to on it's own tbh... David Wise captured the tribal and shamanic feel quite exquisitely in my opinion. It would have fit better had it paired with the original characters and rather esoteric plotline intended for Dinosaur Planet, but it's still an amazing soundtrack nonetheless. This game is really underated with all the new releases, they could have taken inspiration from this old classic. Man when people bring up all time best gamecube games, this never gets mentioned.
You've really gotta love the irony of Rare being paid to shoehorn Fox into a game in which he really has no place, and writing him as a character who's literally only doing whar he does in the game because he's getting paid for it...
@@enderpup9289 Not exactly. She was supposed to be the protagonist along a Wolf dude named Saber. I guess when Fox took Saber's place Nintendo didn't want Fox to ahve to share the starring role with Krystal, so they made her as inconsequential to the story as possible.
@@AndresLionheart No because Krystals story heavily relied on Saber. So when Fox replaced Saber, then Krystals story didn't make any sense so it was instead given to fox as well.
Nah, some just reference his video like Stairfax its a funny video with a few good points espescially towards the original reception of the game. Here's a good let's play of the game from Masaeanela th-cam.com/video/agcSkiZLNj8/w-d-xo.html
I dislike this game because I played it. Its a bunch of nothing; dinosaurs that can't feed themselves, mechanics that are kmart brand Zelda, really cheesy sound design, and a whack theme. Its redeeming qualities are all visual, as it uses a lot of effects and shaders that didn't become common until 6+ years later on the HD consoles. The game actually acknowledges how dumb it is quite a lot, but in a "we didn't want to make it like this," way rather than a self aware one.
Is there more to the Jurassic Park song? That's all I can remember. Great review! Probably the best review of Star Fox Adventures on the internet! Makes me want to play it again.
I actually really enjoyed this mission. Nintendo should redo this game and make it much larger. And have Krystal be playable, not trapped in a crystal.
Considering the big N barely does anything Star Fox (this franchise makes Metroid look loved), probably not going to happen... (as much as I agree with you)
I beat this game as a child, but I remember it was not worth replaying. There is absolutely nothing to discover by replaying it, nothing new to experience, and beating it a second time is identical to the first.
This game pretty much defined my childhood, so I was a bit worried that you'd rip it apart like everyone else. But I actually agree with most of the points you made in this video. Thank you for giving this game a fair chance Mr. Dragonrider. P.S. No, the fact that I love this game does not mean I'm a furry :/
Exactly the words I came here to say. Have finished this game at least 5 times. I loved it so much probably because I didn't play any starfox before it. Haha.
This game was good, but certainly not great. There were just so many parts that were obviously...not done well. The Lightfoot test of strength minigame seemed so broken as a child. Or the complete skip of the General Scales boss fight for Andross. Who thought THAT was a good idea...?
I had to borrow a turbo controller from my friend to beat it. I later found out all GC controllers have a turbo button inside them, you just have to open the thing up to find it.
This game was my childhood nemesis. I just couldn't beat the final Andross fight, but this game will forever be one of my favorite GameCube gamesand I loved everything about it that it did differently from the main Starfox franchise. As a kid I had only played Starfox 64, but wasn't thaaaat much of a fan. I liked it, but the reason I LOVED Star Fox Adventure was because you could actually walk around with Fox and not gonna lie I think the Graphics for Gamecube were insanely good IMO. Loved the music as well.
This game really just suffered from time constraints. Being changed to a different console, having an unrelated franchise shoved in, and the company being bought out. It really shows in some of the later areas that they had to quickly throw something together because they didn't have time for their original ideas. Looking in the code, it's clearly only half finished. Literally about half of the maps were deleted. There are scenes that try to animate Krystal, and they've just put in a bodge to make them use Fox instead. Even a couple deleted levels still in there. If they hadn't been forced to stick Star Fox into a game that it didn't belong in, maybe they'd have had time to give it the polish it needed. It's good, but not great, but you can tell it had a huge amount of potential that never got to be realized. One thing it is though is absolutely beautiful. Look at how detailed these characters and environments are, at twice the frame rate of the much less graphically complex Wind Waker. (Not to say WW doesn't also look great; just that this style takes more processing power.) Krystal is pretty cute too~ I've actually been modding this game to improve on some of the more annoying parts (hiding the item counters is coming!) and fix some bugs. It's a lot of fun to work on.
This was my first Star Fox game. THIS is what a Star Fox game was to me. Its been 8 years since I've played it, so I doubt it's as good as I remember. :P
You are aware that this game is basically Mario 2 or Star Fox? This game is Dinosaur Planet what was turn into Star Fox for marketing reasons, but it has almost nothing to do with franchise itself.
This was also the first starfox game i've played, i've tried the other starfox games in the series, but starfox adventures will always be in my heart as number 2 (the zelda serie is numba one).
Yeah. people always jump to the conclusion that "She was just made to be a furry's wetdream" or some shit like that. Whenever I knew them as a kid, they were just an amazing member of the Starfox Team. It sucks that they keep trying to reproduce Starfox 64 and abandoning the ideas that helped expand the series. I'd love to see a mix-up of Assault and Starfox Zero with multiplayer. On foot combat and numerous other vehicles to operate would be amazing.
@@General_Cap Assault was just way to short, and it lacked 64's route system and various other things that could happen on missions for replayability. Though for the little game that was there for assault, it was quite solid.
@@bluenova123 it also had a redundant unlock system for multiplayer maps and characters. I had no idea jetpacks were in the game until I used a 100% save file. Also multiplayer was pretty damn unbalanced across the board, but was still fun to ride atop an arwing as a pilot.
That movie somehow got linked to one of the most importsnt times in my life just simply by watching it around the same time. Such a weird movie but genuinely hard to take your eyes off of.
As unappreciative of Jirard's work it may seem, one of my favourite parts of this channel is to see some old childhood favourites appear in my sub box out of nowhere. There's virtually no way for them to come up in any new way in my daily life - except through this channel. And I love that
Finally! An actual honest review of one of my favorite childhood games. Yes, the game doesnt feel 100% like a starfox game. But Fox is a Space Mercenary. He's supposed to go down to planets and deal with whatever weird thing he encounters there. It's not always going to be "Hey take your arwing and take down these baddies in space." It's "Hey some planet fully occupied by dinos needs help" And yes, the game had major weak points. One of them being that we werent able to defeat the main antagonist of the game and just awkwardly shove Andross in there. Andross had no need to be in there. We dont ALWAYS need to fight andross. If they replaced Andross with a hard Scales final boss. It would have been great! Honestly, I'm glad you were unbiased. Most people just say "Starfox Adventures is a piece of shit" because either they want to agree with other people or because they just dont like change. It was a really good game for it's time and budget. Thank you for making the review. It was nice to see it from an honest critique perspective. (One of the worst thing in this game though is that Fox had human fingers in his fingerless glove. Like what the fuck) Edit: Also, please review Starfox Assault! I feel that game was good and didnt get the recognition it deserved
While I’m sad that Dinosaur Planet the game never got released, it’s honestly for the best. That game was going to be released on the N64DD, and we all know how successful *that* system was. My biggest problem is that Krystal was shoved to the damsel in distress role. That can be a useful plot element, but it wasted valuable character development. In fact, even the damsel in distress role can be used for character development. Look at peach in the first two Paper Mario games. She was a damsel in distress, but she still did everything she could to help Mario, from gathering information, to giving him useful items. It made Peach charming. In Adventures, Krystal is comatose for 95% of the game. What Nintendo should’ve done is kept the character switching mechanics from DP; have Fox blast his way through dungeons to collect the Spell Stones (because Nintendo’s excuse for Fox not having his blaster was just stupid), and then switch to Krystal to solve puzzles so she can collect the Krazoa Spirits. And they had a perfect reason for why Fox can’t do the Krazoa Tests; only a person with a pure heart can enter the Shrines. While Fox isn’t a bad guy, he’s saving the planet because he’s in desperate need of a paycheck; not exactly a “pure” mindset. After you get the first Spell Stone and Krazoa Spirit, have Fox and Krystal meet and team up, realizing they need each other in order to save the planet. Boom! More opportunities for character development! Nintendo had a Golden Goose of story opportunities here, and they squandered it. Maybe they’ll fix it with a remaster, but that seems as unlikely as F-Zero fans getting a new game.
@@MyGamer125 i played this game as a kid, and throughout this video i was thinking about how this game could be improved your suggestions are fantastic, would love to see even just a fan try to remake this game in a way like you just described starfox adventures had a lot of potential but unfortunately didn't quite live up to it
People complain about SFA for being a “Zelda clone” or a deviation from a traditional Star Fox game, yet nobody calls Mario Kart or Mario Party “not a good Mario game” over not being platformers.
This is a game me and my brothers played the hell out of. My older brother had a hard time beating the final boss and me and my little brother would watch. When he finally beat it we all got so excited. Simple times, man.
I seriously don't get why the flying/aiming controls have the y axis inverted by default, and you cant change it. Let alone the fact that there literally isnt a settings menu. Just picked up this game a lil while ago and it's genuinely unplayable with loose stick boxes. Waiting to get a new controller before i give it another go. Honestly if this game got remastered these issues could be easily fixed
It isn't lol, Fox is a fox and foxes are found in every land on earth, Fox was inspired by a kitsune which has magic and Fox McCloud was originally an on foot adventurer. His Arwing was only used for War/transportation
I remeber that I left this game at 99% and never went back to finish it, I did the same with Metroid Prime and Paper Mario TTYD. I don't know what was wrong with me. lol
5:47 that's how Fox is, he's a mercenary...he gets his job done as quickly as possible. Although he does care he doesn't show it cuz his character is stoic, I wouldn't say players can't care bcuz "Fox doesn't care" cuz with Zelda games Link doesn't talk but players still care
The Gamecube isn't untrustworthy. It's considered to be Nintendo's 6th most durable hardware. The first place being GBC, the second place being GBA then 3rd GB, then 4th N64, then 5th SNES and then 6th Gamecube.
Starfox Adventures is no joke my favorite Starfox game. I love Zelda games and I hate on rail shooters, so that might have something to do with it. lol
I remember this game quite well. I still remember my younger self struggling in that pterodactyl segment to the point I nearly just stopped playing. Also didn't like what they did to Scales. Bring him up as the big bad and there isn't hardly a fight with him then a huge difficulty spike with the final boss almost made me stop playing again.
I have finished this game twice, first around the time of release, and the second time about 2-3 years ago. While I did enjoy the game on both occasions, the atmosphere is pretty great actually.. I did notice on my second playthrough that the game seemed pretty rushed, and that became more apparent further into the game. Scratch that, it was apparent a lot of the time.. I was STUNNED by how freaking short that first "dungeon" was. Especially the second time around. It felt like I just started, and BOOM, boss time. I have to slightly disagree with Jirard about the soundtrack, as I think there are quite a few pieces that really adds to the atmosphere, and makes the overall experience more enjoyable, but I do agree that's it's not a particularly extensive soundtrack. Anyway.. There are a lot of good things in the game, I think everybody should try it out.. But it does feel unfinished, and it would be interesting if this is one of those rare games (HAH, puns) that gets a proper remake, I'm talking back to basics, remove everything Star Fox, and make the game as it was intended to be. Although I have to admit that I personally enjoy the inclusion of Fox and company in this game.
Jirard I don't remember if you have already played and/or completed the other Gamecube StarFox game, but its called StarFox Assault. It deserves your time and attention.
Starfox would really need a game that's like science fictions love child. Space Ace + Guardians of The Galaxy + Space Adventures + Buck Rogers and the 20th Century + West of East + Akira Starfox is a fun game but what we want is a new game. Shooting through space is fun but something like that won't be able to get itself off the ground. Remaking a game four times doesn't work. Doing something new and hoping it sticks bears a lot of fruit in the end because audiences want something so stange and new it denys expectations by breaking barriers. Fox can be a major character like Mario and Link but one game mechanic compared to the rest of his Nintendo family members won't hold. Its like how Ice Climbers can be a major game title if they know what to do with them. Make it a 3DS puzzle solving side scrolling game where you gotta solve puzzles by separating the two to hit switches, get an item while another one stays in a button, and defeat enemies with complex timing button positioning.
i got this game for christmas all those years ago with a special limited edition Mario Kart Double Dash gamecube bundle, which also came with its own limited edition all in one zelda disk. which had all the home console zelda games (or most of them anyway) in one disk. I also got Pikmin, Finding nemo, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets. what a day! i spent like an hour playing starfox adventures on my own. before letting my little sister play with me on double dash.
I don't care what anyone says, Adventures was amazing. There are very few games where I can confidently say that I can sit down and play it from start to finish 100% in one sitting, on a whim. Adventures is one such game. One summer vacation, I sat down and decided to play this game from start to finish in a completion run. 10 hours, only getting up to use the restroom or grab food. I absolutely *adored* this game, and will never get the hate that it got.
Disappointed that Okami got such a harsh review for being too much of a Zelda rip-off while _this_ of all things got a pass because one could do much worse for a Zelda-inspired adventure game. Jirard, you're really slipping lately.

You know even if starfox adventures was dinosaur island
Furries would still ship krystal and fox
Krystal was supposed to be Dinosaur plant's main character before Star fox. Nintendo been throwing her under the bus since 2002
@@enderpup9289 Not exactly.
I loved this game growing up. It was my introduction to Star Fox
I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.
Most people hate this game because of the jontron video and that's sad
Nah, some just reference his video like Stairfax its a funny video with a few good points espescially towards the original reception of the game. Here's a good let's play of the game from Masaeanela th-cam.com/video/agcSkiZLNj8/w-d-xo.html
I thought it was an okay game. Not great, not terrible.
Its more like zelda lite at least for myself.
Not really. Jon’s video is the reason I throughly enjoy this game.
This is my favorite starfox. I would love to have them remake this.
Not gonna lie, this was my favorite one.
Mine to
I liked star Fox assault a lot the music in that was pretty awesome
How many scarabs do you wish to gamble? 🦕
Def don't agree about the soundtrack... I found it quite good, very atmospheric and memorable
It's impossible to read the title as anything other than Stairfax Temperatures
Kiss my black asscheeks ya bitch
Good Jon-ton joke!
Man y'all are too mean. Jon's still funny.
@@steviewonder8656 how was you even able to type?
The title picture didn't have the main protagonist with a beard, what the heck Jirard.
Fox naturally has a beard, the white fur around his muzzle.
How do you give a beard to a furry face?
Fox's beard is so big, it covers his body.
(as much as I agree with you)
I made a mod for that 👀
@@mordinchemist I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.
Haha.
Same bro this game was my childhood it’s still one of my favorite games
Hard agree this game really was just such a experience for me as a child
I want to see the b-roll of how many times they broke down laughing while trying to film the scenes with the t-rex costume.
This game was good, but certainly not great. There were just so many parts that were obviously...not done well. The Lightfoot test of strength minigame seemed so broken as a child. Or the complete skip of the General Scales boss fight for Andross. Who thought THAT was a good idea...?
Matthew Jones that test of strength was the WORST as a kid
@@MasterBlade111 Here here! The test of courage was also really annoying because it sent you back with each failure.
I had to borrow a turbo controller from my friend to beat it. I later found out all GC controllers have a turbo button inside them, you just have to open the thing up to find it.
@@MasterBlade111 I had to ask my older cousin to complete this part for me.
Nice to know I wasn't the only one! Such a crappy part...
Can You Complete Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time?
(Not to say WW doesn't also look great; just that this style takes more processing power.)
Krystal is pretty cute too~
I've actually been modding this game to improve on some of the more annoying parts (hiding the item counters is coming!) and fix some bugs. It's a lot of fun to work on.
Ah yes. Stairfax Temperatures
I was gonna say that lol
Jonathan Tronathan
Ah yes, back when Jontron was funny and reviewed games
thats a callback
DAMNIT you beat me to it. Lmao
This was actually my first Star Fox game, I was actually really disappointed when I found out this was the only Star Fox of this type.
This was my first Star Fox game. THIS is what a Star Fox game was to me. Its been 8 years since I've played it, so I doubt it's as good as I remember. :P
NaterTot I recommend checking out the Best Friends LP of this game,
spoiler: this game doesn’t hold up
You are aware that this game is basically Mario 2 or Star Fox? This game is Dinosaur Planet what was turn into Star Fox for marketing reasons, but it has almost nothing to do with franchise itself.
I was young when I originally played it and knew nothing of the other Star Fox games, but I realize the beauty that is Star Fox 64 now.
This was also the first starfox game i've played, i've tried the other starfox games in the series, but starfox adventures will always be in my heart as number 2 (the zelda serie is numba one).
Still, to this day, love this game. Have played it so many times.
Love this game, still one of my favorites to this day.
I miss Krystal .She is so cool and prety.
Yeah. people always jump to the conclusion that "She was just made to be a furry's wetdream" or some shit like that.
Maybe if the fandom didn't have Nintendo scared to make a Star Fox game that isn't a 64 remake, we could see her again...
She's back in Smash Ultimate as an assist trophy, if that counts.
Star fox,the game that nintendo has no idea what to do with
Same with f zero and golden sun
They should just make it a space flight sim
That and Metroid and F-zero
@@wesleysobik9137 I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.
I would just like to defend Fox. He does end up caring by the end, creating an awesome relationship with Tricky and others. He grows, which is rad.
Furries everywhere thank this game for existing at all. ...For obvious reasons.
Jirard is confirmed furry hater.
Krystal?
@@SetoShadowVT Yes! She's the most famous in the Furry Community
@Cyber Console wolf I didn't say this game kickstarted furries. I said furries are happy this game exists.
Kaibaman41
Krystal!
I'm assuming a Star Fox Assault review is coming next.
One of my favourite GameCube games. It has a lot of problems but I love the effort put into it.
y'all children think this series birthed a bunch of furries but y'all don't even know fritz the cat
shame
That movie somehow got linked to one of the most importsnt times in my life just simply by watching it around the same time. Such a weird movie but genuinely hard to take your eyes off of.
Lee domsoo tavok!, GENERAL SCALES!
It's not always going to be "Hey take your arwing and take down these baddies in space."
It's "Hey some planet fully occupied by dinos needs help"
And yes, the game had major weak points.
Like what the fuck)
Edit: Also, please review Starfox Assault! I feel that game was good and didnt get the recognition it deserved
Grew up with assault and no it does not. It definitely deserves more recognition
Funny thing is, the players guide actually told you how to fight general scales and how to cheese the fight was to wear the soldier disguise.
@@MyGamer125 i played this game as a kid, and throughout this video i was thinking about how this game could be improved
your suggestions are fantastic, would love to see even just a fan try to remake this game in a way like you just described
starfox adventures had a lot of potential but unfortunately didn't quite live up to it
R There’s actually a fan-comic of this concept being played out on DeviantArt. It’s called Star Fox Re-Adventures. Check it out
I do love how there's no long loading screens between areas or when going thru temples that was pretty nice too
Those Dinosaurs aren’t dead
*They’re just missing in action*
We still got crocodiles
Dolphinboi
I think you mean
*Snappy Bois*
They're just sleeping underground.
“I read your file, lieutenant. Even the parts oni didn’t want me to”
they are game ended
People complain about SFA for being a “Zelda clone” or a deviation from a traditional Star Fox game, yet nobody calls Mario Kart or Mario Party “not a good Mario game” over not being platformers.
stair fax temperatures was one of my favorite games on the gamecube. along with smash and mario sunshine.
This was one of the first games I ever got for my Game cube and one of the first games for it I ever beat.
This is a game me and my brothers played the hell out of. My older brother had a hard time beating the final boss and me and my little brother would watch. When he finally beat it we all got so excited. Simple times, man.
So what happened to General Scales? Should we care or we don't have enough scarabs?
I remember loving this game as a kid. It's underrated. It's for sure way different then your stereotypical star fox game but it's still awesome.
Complete the Legend of Dragoon, and have Ted just glue bad wings onto the current T Rex costume to look like a dragon
The game that birthed an entire generation of furries
😏
Listen, im no furbie or whatever, but i would kill to be with that sexy lady fox.
Conkers bad fur day ?
@@thatguy8152 i mean, if sunflowers count as furries, then yes. 100%
Agreed.
I wonder How many takes of that dinosaur singing scene they went through before getting through without fits of laughter. That had me dying...
"Not terrible...but not Star Fox" is a solid way to explain this game.
It isn't lol, Fox is a fox and foxes are found in every land on earth, Fox was inspired by a kitsune which has magic and Fox McCloud was originally an on foot adventurer. His Arwing was only used for War/transportation
That pterodactyl flying & shooting level haunts me to this day... So freaking hard! The Souls games or Ninja Gaiden are a cake walk in comparison.
Can’t wait for Star Fox assault as that’s a much better starfox game
I come with a message from MatPat. “Its long overdue, play battle toads with MatPat.” DON’T FEAR THE TOADS MAN.
I love this game but maybe that was becuase it was the first of many games I completed with my friend, also we loved the ssoundtrack!
That derpy T-rex costume is a meme that'll never die.
Just now noticed, Crystal has a tramp stamp and this game turned me into a lvl 1 furry
I love Zelda games and I hate on rail shooters, so that might have something to do with it. lol
0:44 WHOA that beard. Dragonrider gettin mad Wizard up in here.
You been doing Star Fox Games non stop dude !!!!
So much childhood nostalgia flowing through my veins right now. Holy shit.
2:27 Complete Nuts & Bolts.
OMG!!! Someone remember this game!!!
Space Ace + Guardians of The Galaxy + Space Adventures + Buck Rogers and the 20th Century + West of East + Akira
Starfox is a fun game but what we want is a new game.
The completionist is my favorite TH-cam channel apart from avgn
i got this game for christmas all those years ago with a special limited edition Mario Kart Double Dash gamecube bundle, which also came with its own limited edition all in one zelda disk. which had all the home console zelda games (or most of them anyway) in one disk. I also got Pikmin, Finding nemo, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets. what a day! i spent like an hour playing starfox adventures on my own. before letting my little sister play with me on double dash.
I thought some of the music was really good, eg the background music at 1:47
I don't care what anyone says, Adventures was amazing.
Play the sequel Star Fox Assault next please
You know, Ted seems like a pretty chill dude! He plays the comic relief and does it remarkably well! Keep rocking, Ted, my man.
Disappointed that Okami got such a harsh review for being too much of a Zelda rip-off while _this_ of all things got a pass because one could do much worse for a Zelda-inspired adventure game. Jirard, you're really slipping lately.
Connor Wiseman cos he doesn’t agree with you?
