    I currently drive a 2011 ford escape 4 cylinder.
    Very durable and economical
Solid reliable and fun to drive

My parents bought one from my neighbor for me 5 years ago as my first car when I was a Junior in high school. I've had to replace the front brakes, get a new pair of tires, and replace a broken radiator fan. The engine itself has not had any mechanical issues. I keep up with the oil changes, although I think I need to get the transmission serviced because the fluid isn't looking so hot. But overall it's been reliable enough for the maybe 20k miles I put on it for the last 5 years. I mainly used it to go back and forth from high school, and now college. Although it is not a sports car, I appreciate the feeling of "directness". My mom has a ford edge and that thing, although more luxurious, feels so floaty and weird to drive, and that includes the transmission. When you accelerate in this car, the transmission does not just wait around, it shifts pretty quickly. The 3.0L v6 escape can be pretty fun on on-ramps. At low speeds it actually pulls really well because it's somewhat light and there is no wind slowing it down, but at higher speeds, because of the aerodynamics, it kind of just feels like a brick. I think I measured a 0-60 of about 7 seconds which is really not too shabby. I make a point to not do too much hard braking, and to limit the amount of hard accelerations. It's fun around 40 mph when the front end gets squirrely when you step on it. After I graduate from college and I can afford to get something more sporty, I'll be selling this car or trading it in, but it has served me pretty well in the time that I've had it.

I have a 2011 Escape XLT 3.0L V6. It doesn't say AWD, but it is. It is all the time AWD. No FWD until it spins and power is sent to rear wheels. If taking off quick, it will pull hard with all 4 wheels. Some of the Limited versions do have a touch screen with Navigation.

I miss mine so much!😢 I loved the high window Frame for my elbow, the high profile of the dashboard, the shape of the car, the unstoppable feel of it. ❤ Unfortunately I collided with another for escape on a busy road and totaled it, the car came out of nowhere and I was not at fault. 6 months later I'm still annoyed about my new-to-me car compared to my ford escape 😅

The AWD version seen here, does need to have the grease in the transfer case AND in the rear-axle differential changed from time to time, but it can go a long while before you need to worry about it, But I will say that because of the design, the exhaust manifold is too close to the transfer case and even with a heat shield, the heat will eventually cook the grease in the transfer case, which is why you need to get it serviced. Little known fact, the transmission, transfer case and power steering systems all use the same oil, so it can be a bit confusing if you see a drip on the ground; it's not because it's red that it is necessarily the transmission... I had the original rubber hose for the power steering develop micro cracks because of age, and that thing is located literally just above the transfer case, so when the engine was running, the power steering pump was running which was putting pressure on the line, causing the oil to seep through the cracks and drip down onto the transfer case, which falsely led my mechanic to think it was the transfer case bearing seal, But it was just the power steering hose in the end. Still, details like this can break the vehicle if you don't know about it. So open those gear boxes and differentials and change the oil! You'll be happy you did.
Also, the body is not te most robust sheet metal, so get it sprayed for any rust undercoat, it will make a difference.
I had some electrical problems, but that's only because mine is very very old, it took a long time before they developed and most were not because of a bad design but because corrosion got to the circuits. Though I DID have to replace the onboard computer because the diagnostic computer could not communicate with the onboard computer, that was a pretty penny, but it lasted for a long time after.
Because of the way the 6cyl is positioned, replacing coils is a bit of a mess, and that can turn expensive, so if you have to go in the back, replace all of them while you're there, as well as the spark plugs.
Beyond that it's just regular maintenance,
And yes, it can get you out of a jam, provided you got the right kind of tires on it for the job; off-road tires are shit for ice....

Hi there. I've had a 2011 xls 4wheel since they came out. First my mom's then mine once I was old enough to drive and I still have it. I've done QUITE a bit of driving over the years and it's getting close to 300k and still runs fine. Can tell it's got miles on it but because of the motor it's got it will run as long as you keep up with it. The only issues I've found with these early gens specifically this gen is RIGHT at 80k you need to replace your whole brake system. It just falls apart for some reason. Also most likely gonna need a new starter at that point. Otherwise so long as keep up with basic maintenance and keep it running, it will go forever. There are some things that suck like for example, I HATE the seats. This thing will kill your back sitting in it all day. I will agree with the interior space though I have an old friend who's about 6'5" and is a naturally BIG mf, and I feel so bad every time he'd get in my 2011 Escape haha. Any other complaints are really more of some bad design like the radiator having practically No space behind the bumper which lead to me once having it cracked (which it also got pushed back and cracked the plastic intake manifold) when I got in a small fender bender a few years ago, but despite the small bit annoying things it's a fine, reliable daily driver, especially for those with 2-3 kids, or needs something for extra space but isn't huge that will go as long as it's cared for and it can certainly take some bumps, clear a curb just fine and get through a bit of dirt and grass surprisingly well.

Take trac control off and you will have a quick little suv with the 3 litre rated at over 240 hp. It is not 4 wheel drive, it is AWD, I have had 2, 2012’s and my son has had a 2008 for years that one does have a 4x4 badge on the tailgate. Misnomer as it is an AWD. I’m surprised you didn’t realize being a dealer that this is not full 4x4 it is an AWD system that works off the front wheel drive, as the front drive wheel slips the rear wheel kicks in giving you traction from all wheels. It is a great system that will get you out of many slippery and winter snow situations. There is no switch, button or any way to manually engage 4 wheel drive!
