Yes, I really love having a clean space to come down to in the morning. I call it "resetting the space." We reset every room before bed and it really helps us to maintain the house clean without having to do this big cleanup on this one day.
Resetting a space, exactly! I do little resets through the day too (mostly tidying up my toddler's toys and such or washing a few dishes) but definitely before bed. :)
I love plants but I hate caring for them. Watering, pruning, replanting, and it goes on and on. So I gave myself permission to stop. Once my plants were past their prime, I replaced them with modern realistic substitutes (so real-looking that a bee tried to pollinate them lol) and have never looked back. I realized the emotional bandwidth of being responsible for too many living things (even if it is just a plant) was stressing me out. Now I have beautiful "plants" that ask nothing of me. But don't worry, we live in a forest, and nature and high-quality O2 literally flow through my windows.
This is a good point! I have a bunch of houseplants and I fully understand how sometimes we need to not keep adding to the collection. They certainly require upkeep. The gardens around our house were very elaborate (and overgrown) when we first moved in and even though I loveeeee gardening, we pared down the number of plants because it was pretty out of control and now it's so much easier and enjoyable to maintain.
Something to keep in mind, not all spouses or partners feel the same way you do about minimalism so do what you can and try and compromise. It's not just your house, but your family's home.
I recently discovered your channel and love your videos! 😊 Clutter can be visually so overwhelming, I decided to do one thing every day for at least 15-30 mins, for eg.: declutter a cabinet, wash the windows or mirrors, sort/rotate our clothes and my toddler's toys, etc. In time it gathers up and makes cleaning a lot easier and more sustainable in time.
One lesson I’ve learned this year actually has come from organic gardening in my backyard and seeing the simple pleasures of plants taking shape or bearing fruit over time as a lesson of patience and all things develop in their own time. It’s a gentle reminder for me to slow down each day in little ways and to fully appreciate the present moment. Not only is gardening, I find, therapeutic, inexpensive, and teaches about unprocessed foods, but deleting cards off Amazon or focused on small wins, like tomatoes growing ripe for summer salads, has truly been rewarding. I love learning about natural foods now and feeling proud of growing a small humble garden of my own. My goal over time is to learn more about healthy foods and wellness, the larger and healthier the garden grows. It makes me excited now to try new vegetables for a planting season, or harvesting fresh fruit. I had a bad accident a while back with cooking and hot boiling water which made me scared to cook on a stove, so hoping these plants give courage to try cooking more again too.
absolutely true. i have less problems about simple daily stuff. you should focus on not wasting your personal time. you wont get it back. make your life easy as possible and enjoy it every day
This was so on time Megan. I am feeling so overwhelmed the last few days i felt like crying today but could not even cry cuz it pulls my face and it hurt from dental surgery stitches. 🙈 this helped a lot thank you again. After watching your video i relaxed and meditated and went to sleep. The next was way more refreshing. ❤
Same here. I love this quote. "Some people don't understand that sitting at home alone in peace, eating snacks, minding your own business is priceless."
Really appreciate this video! I am taking to heart simplifying my schedule and not have such a “do it all” mentality. I do not need to jam pack my nor my children’s schedules with things to do every second. I also appreciate how you started the video with evaluating what matters the most to us! It’s easy to become a busy body and lose sight of what is most important and what we’d like to focus on/invest in regarding time and energy. Thank you!
I resonate with all of your simple living strategies. For myself, learning to be content with what I have and who I am has been the most useful for simple living. Thank you for another great video 😊
Omg… your sneeze was so natural 😂😂😂…. I love that you didn’t edit that sneeze out!! Just because you did that… you ma’am have gotten a new subscriber 😊😊😊
I’m the same way with my phone! I have notifications and sounds off, only text messages I have banner notifications on. I also keep my ringer on vibrate only, unless I’m expecting an important call. 😊
A timely reminder, year four of parenthood and we are struggling through the clutter, the busyness and the overwhelm. Simple living slipped away from us, I think I'll write your dot points down and find our way back to it.
This is the best video I’ve seen in years. You have such important points in here and I hope everyone that comes across this video takes a few minutes to listen. So important! ❤️
Can I say that I love the sneeze in the end? Hahaha, so cute! Thank you for your sharing which reminds me to slow down and think again. I’m a minimalist for 6 years now. It’s just a great way to keep my life together whenever it feels a little bit “much” to me. ❤
Hey there! I thrift a good chunk of my clothes and a couple of my wide leg pants are. But I got the green pair from Marshall's and I got the brown pair from Pact! 😃
I stopped all notifications a few years ago, and also block any email addresses and text messages I get from randoms. As a business owner I get a lot of spam, and I was spending/wasting so much time going through digital clutter I didn't ask for, I was getting interrupted too much too often and felt my time should be better spent in productive tasks of my choice. I also have a budget A4 note book where I write down all my income and expenses, so I know exactly where every cent goes ☺.
Hi, i am new to your channel😇. Have you shared anywhere how you changed your mindset about feeling that you have to do it all? I am really struggling with this and I am guessing it's not a one day / one step process for anyone. How did you approach this and see progress for yourself ?
Only notifications are text/calls and always on silent except for emergency like when I was my moms caregiver. So the only sound my phone makes is my morning alarm.
I dedicated thursday for fish day, friday for pizza day. The rest is more like by my mood lol. Slowly but surely gettingbinto more planing. i do get meat out the night before if know i want to do something random the next day. I sometimes make big crock pot with Borscht and then we eat a portion and the rest i put in Jar in the fridge and it last for few weeks but we eat it pretty soon like the week after.
Love slow cooker meals! Like you we have certain meals that we make every week, like a pasta or spaghetti, and usually one Mexican dish of some sort, though not on specific days. But that helps too with planning things out.
Hi! Thanks so much for sharing, just found your channel. Do you have any tips or advice for kids? I declutter my stuff and space so often, but my 8 year old is a hoarder and collector, my mother also brings him so much stuff. He loves it and never wants to get ride of anything, and I feel bad getting rid of his stuff without his permission (and he notices when things disappear, I’ve tried that lol 😂)
Hey there! I'd like to make a video on simple living with kids around. My toddler is 19 months so we're still able to be relatively choosy when it comes to decluttering/donating things as needed. But I think at the end of the day, there are some things we can't always control (like the gifts our children receive and items that they love and want to keep for themselves) and that's okay! As my daughter gets older though, I'd probably approach this by having open dialogue about toys and donating things that aren't being used and such. I hope this kind of helps haha!
@@meghanlivingstone That does help, thank you! I have been just trying to actually just accept it for now, with knowing that it won't be that way forever as he gets older. Congrats on your daughter!

I am not a morning person, so every night I reset my home for the next day. That helps me get ready for work and nothing is in my way 😊
Such a great point! I am not a morning person so I need everything put away at night so I can go to bed with ease 😌
Hi Meghan could you share how you decorate your home? I really like your interior design!

Reading more simplified my life because it significantly reduced my screen time!

So well articulated, practical, and serene. I really enjoyed it every way ❤
Excellent video! I also keep my ringer off and have very select notifications--banners only, no sounds. Thank you for these tips. 😊
❤ silence and staying in the present is my current struggle. Silence. 🙌
Notifications are all off. I couldn’t imagine having them on. 😆
I also keep my notifications turned off. There are so many, and it just gets overwhelming.

Hi! Can you please share the links to some of those comfy pants you love? Thanks you!
These videos of yours help me so much in recentering and setting my priorities straight. Lovely video as always ❤

That's so kind of you to say! Thanks for watching ❤
I love your content! So peaceful and helpful❤
Meghan…..I love your cropped pants, also. Can you refer me to where you buy them? Enjoy your videos.
Thanks Meghan for these tips !
Just found your channel and subscribed. I love your clothes and was wondering where you purchase them and especially the pants. They look super comfy!

Yes, decluttering head space - I am realizing how incredible that is. Those dish tabs seem awesome!
Loved your list. I love waking and sleeping to a tidy house too :)
Completely understand your change! 😊

I only allow sound from text messages and private messages through Messenger. No email, ads, nothing else!
Love your content. New subscriber. What a great surprise to find out you are a fellow 🇨🇦👏🏻
You're looking beautiful and content. Always look forward to your videos.
Megan, how did you manage to get out of to do it all mode? What helped you? Need some practical advice please ❤

My phone is on do not disturb. Important calls can get past it, but besides that everything is off.
Only sound from my phone is actual phone call or text.

Notifications off! I hate notifications. Necessary evil is text message notification.
I stopped watching the tv completely, emptyed rooms of non required goods and furniture have what i use nothing more.
