Splatoon 1 influenced the story mode 2 influenced the looks of the third game [and side order I guess] so will we get an old looking hub area or be in the past? I honestly just want it to look like those old Japanese houses and stuff but just the looks and keep the futuristic stuff.

The idea of a Great Turf War based game was really appealing to me (sounds unlikely tho), something nostalgia based with the feeling of splatoon one or a past based singleplayer mode even but as soon as I said the I picked past they said “Why do you like the Squid Sisters so much?!” 😭

I have a theory on Splatoon 4 already, relating to the whole team past winning thing:
I believe we will get to see a game set in the past, but we know that the NSS won't be involved, as stated within the Splatoon 3 direct's story mode section from August 2022. The idols will obviously have to be important, and there are some unnamed bands from HaikaraWalker. One of these bands is an unnamed idol duo of two Cuttlelings, similar to Callie and Marie but seemingly not related. Considering the fact that they were previously popular among teens by the time of HaikaraWalker, which would be Octo Expansion, who's to say we wouldn't see a game with them as the idols?
When I say the Cuttlelings bear a resemblence to Callie and Marie, they both have moles and star shaped eyes, but way different hairstyles.
Darling we have know that they are cuttlefish fish for a long long long time Callie and Marie are related to a cuttlefish and their is a sunken scroll with too unnamed cuttlefish idols that look similar to Callie and Marie which tells me and the community that their cuttlefish
Also Callie and Marie are related their cousins which kinda makes no sense they would be the cuttlefish cousins but I know it weird but they are related Marie talks about it how " they were going to plan to go to their home town calimari county " ( this took place in splatoon 2 before Callie was like DEPRESSION and went with octolings )

I desperately want the past to focus on Deeps cut's family, they deserve so much more than the small role they played in return of the mammalians, and they got last place in their own final fest with literally 0 points. I know that it was to celebrate the end of Splatoon as we know it but for them to not have anything super special going into their backstory feels weird. Although the stuff with lil Judd will maybe get explained, something to do with the Salmonoids but who really knows (even if I played on team future I'm glad past won because I would kinda prefer the aesthetic of a game based around the past)

My theory is that we wont be in the past or have the hero mode but still a story mode but we WILL have more info on HUMANS and how they influenced the marine life and all this is based off of the squid sisters lyrics in the three wishes video.

Okay, technically missing voices are heard online, sort of. The only time you hear missing voices online is through a SUB WEAPON: Squid Beakon. If you listen very carefully to the SFX of the beacon, you hear the missing voices of Inklings’ intensity.
My guess is we'll get an aesthetic based on the past since nintendo wants the game to grow up with us using the same timeline as normal, so we'll probably end up in calamari county next to relate to callie and marie winning the grand fest, but to include the other two themes, I think it'll be futuristic themed on top of being primarily traditionally Japanese themed since that's supposedly the atmosphere callie and marie grew up around based on their clothing as kids and performance of the first calamari inkantation. Of course team present comes into play by keeping the timeline the same, although I bet the story mode will include some sort of time travel with the new idols that show up.
That’s what I kinda want too, like I’m pretty neutral with the idea of a prequel or something along the lines of that but like a vintage aesthetic for the next game would be perfect
Alright, let’s put on our thinking caps:
Naturally, each winning team would probably create their own version of the story, and I believe that I remember Jamoji saying that Nintendo said that Splatoon 3 was, like, the end of the saga. Not quitting the series all together, just wrapping up this specific storyline, and they were going to use this splatfest to determine where they go with it (ie: Past/prequel, present/spinoff, future/sequel, or something of the like). I think, since Past won *(as they should),* we’re going to get a prequel that either marks Cuttlefish’s and/or Octavio’s time in the great turf war, or the Squid Sisters’ time during the founding of the Squidbeak Splatoon. Either way, I like where this is going.
This made me think of something funny and cute like if craig and octavio were the idols in the game with splatfest when they were friends before the war. Would never happen in a million years but is a fun idea

I don’t. We already know what happened in the Great Turf War, and it being in the past means that the weapons have to be lower tech, which… I don’t really know how they’ll make that work. It’s also gonna have to be before the Octolings came to Inkopolis, so does that mean only squids will be playable again?
Nintendo’s gonna have to really innovate to make something new and interesting in a past setting. Literally any other GrandFest team winning would make for much more creative potential…

Idk. The game would lose its style and appeal if it went that far back into military times. There would be very few bands and not a lot of freedom for music, less individuality, and not to mention, octolings would be on octavios side. We already know so much about that war and have fought octavio 3 times in 3 different games.
Heres a better "past" idea. Since team past really only picked for the idols, callie and marie would stay as hosts but they would not have any involvement in the main story (theyve been in all of them, give them a rest). The main story would be about deep cut during high school. Maybe it could be like some bad thing has occurred at their school and they need to get together and save the day with their classmate (the player). It would shed some light on how they met and their families origins. Especially shivers since we have no idea how her clan came out of octovalley and mingled in the splatlands. If needed there could also be a dlc for either OtH or the sisters, but idk what more they can do

I can see the story of splatoon 4 being about the antagonist attempting to change the past or at least, mistakenly changing the past, involving the great turf war. Pretty much all idol groups we've seen so far, except deep cut, have some relation to the great turf war to some extent

I think we are going to travel in time, and going to the past to change something on the present of splatoon 4. All of it in the story mode
I feel like past will only have a small effect on the next entry, or it might even have all of the themes put in it with like a time travel story possibly
Well actually if you go to the news section on your switch menu, you can OBVIOUSLY tell that this isn't the last splatfest!! There will still be big more runs, seasonal splatfests, and challenges!!
The chaos win influenced more than just the themes of Splatoon 3.
The special design focuses more on the explosive and chaotic ones from the previous titles.
They could’ve chosen specials that focus on teamwork and coordination, but they didn‘t.
Just like that, the team past win means that Splatoon 4 will be based on Splatoon 1 in many aspects. We’ll just have to wait to see what that means exactly
my bet is that the past theme effect is the new villain's motivation

Honestly if there's one thing i'd love to see was splatoon 4 being during or before the Great Turf War, like it would be cool to see how the map looked before specially the part of the Craters in the turf of the Octarians caused by the war, how octavio looked as an octoling and a young cap'n cuttlefish, maybe also see the two of them as idols if the game was before the war.
This is what I would want as the story mode:
We would find a mysterious kettle in the main hub, and we couldn’t escape from it (for the first time) and you would be pulled from the hub into the great turf war. I don’t know much about it cuz I don’t read that stuff but blah blah blah all of what happend, then DJ Octavio would do all of his stuff. I think sence paar one, making the story mode a great turf war and more would be a good idea.
Since splatoon 1 final fest affected the story and splatoon 2 final fest affected the theme i would assume that splat 3 final fest would affect the story, i story giving us more lore on what happened in the past would make the most sense imo.
We should could get a regular Splatoon 3 band like C-Side or H2Whoa or YATGB as Splatoon 4 idol stars. Imo it's about time we get a boy band.

For a past themed hub, how about Calamari County, the squid sisters’ childhood area, with a more traditional Japanese environment (iirc that place is inspired by old traditional Japan) or something similar. For the story we could have something about discovering the past, like having to discover sunken scrolls as the main goal. Historian vibes. Or discovering ancient temples and old civilizations. Or obviously learning more about the Great Turf War, and maybe cuttlefish and Octavio’s past. It could be fun. By the way we could do all that while living in the present time, which means octolings get to stay.
Splatoon 4...if you don't have agent 7, I'll dare to learn to program and make a fan game where #7 is playable >:(

I'm honestly sad because I didn't even experience a second of the final fest as I had no Nintendo Online
My prediction is that either the Splatoon 4 Hero Mode storyline, or the DLC storyline, is going to involve time-travel - and that they'd already decided this before the Grand Festival.
Keep in mind that in both Splatoon 2 and 3, both the winning and losing team did feature in *some* way, just swapping which theme (or person) goes where.
Imagine it's just a remake while they develop splatoon 4 so there's a title for the new console
The GrandFest is not actually the last splatfest, we'll still have them but we're not having new themes
Pretty sure those with a knowledge of Splatoon would know that. It’s more like the last Splatfest that really mattered in the timeline or mattered before reruns. Like having a final episode of a show then having reruns of older episodes in the channel (idk how people don’t make that connection).
@chi4547 It was never stated that we wont get new themes and i don't think the fests would work with the same themes, what most likely is happening is that we are only getting seasonal fests and possibly an anniversary fest because we always get one (Rock paper scissors, deep cut leader, final fest) and we get new themes for those
its obviously rigged to ensure that the team that wins is the team that represents their pre-existing plans for the next instalment. I'm betting that they expected past to be way more popular than present and future just because they think everyone loves Callie and Marie
My predictions Splatoon 4 would probably be a prequel like showing maps while they were under construction with past winning, but could just be a theory :)
I think that the game will more like reference the past as a form a nostalgia to the player and maybe the past is used in some way to affect the future.

I personally would really like Splatoon 4 to follow in the footsteps of Pokemon: Legends Arceus and focus on the lore aspects of the splatoon universe. Getting a game set during the Great Turf War or another important part of the timeline would be really interesting.

I have a theory on new weapons and how respawning works in Splatoon 4:
I think Splatoon 4 will have a lot of weapons that seem to be made out of scrap metal and wood and have sort of steampunk designs. The charger will not be able to hold a charge, but after firing it lets out a smoke screen in front of you due to the charger using steam to fire. The roller won't be able to flick vertically, but the roller uses steam to propel the roller flicks ink to a longer range. And Splatoon 4 will have a lot of new weapon classes, which were either banned later in the future, or were discontinued due to lack of materials.
How respawning works is that you actually have armor, and when it breaks you instantly super jump back to your base to heal the armor, which takes 4 seconds. The reason why I came up with this armor idea is because they don't have the technology to make a respawn point yet due to the fact the game takes place in the past.
i talked about how badly i didnt want present to win because i wanted splatoon to take place in a different era to freshen things up and its surprising how many fans think final fests dont determine the next game and how confident they will be. im glad im the smartest of the splatoon fans on tiktok.

i havent played splatoon in a while, but i have a theory; what if since past won, we get to see the great turf war take place and possibly compete in it. What if the great turf war is the final splatfest and the rest is preparing?
one thing for certain is lil judd will be the main villain of splatoon 4 and the idea of the past would maybe be about lil judd trying the change the past to replace judd, which may and WILL screw up the timeline until story mode is finished, for example, lil judd would turn out to be a bad judge or would make the octarian win the great turf war, leading to the octarians being at the surface and the inklings underground, though i feel like this would make the lore too complicated so maybe that "octarian timeline" wouldn't actually be canon or not a thing at all
but it would be interesting to have the inklings and octolings switch places though

I desperately want them bring back the conversation of The Great Turf War and Tartars existence. Not just because Tartar was my favorite Splatoon character for 3 years but because going into the backstory and psychology of this evil little telephone sounds awesome. It would be so cool if we got a game that focused on the Great Turf War but I doubt we'd get that. If they go by what they did for splatoon 3 with team chaos winning, I think at most what we'd get is the hub world would probably take place in a more "traditional" town/city.

He already said that a lot of people didn't know this would have an impact on the next game, as a lot of people are new to the franchise. So this is actual useful information for players who didn't know.

Very out there theory, but what if for splatoon 4, something from the past returns, maybe staking an ancestral claim? Humans. How it would work could be that the crystals in Alterna that caused the inkling and octarians to evolve would mix with the fuzzy ooze that the memories stored within would create a new organism with the memories of humanity and these "Goo-mans" would try to take the surface as a form of birthright.
Team past won because we’ve been here since one. The veterans are stronger since we’ve played longer.
I’m kind of hoping for an FPS spin-off, a totally separate line of games from the main series that plays like a traditional movement shooter. We can craft weapons at the Splattersmith and slide, grapple, and wall run with our tentacles. It could be the elite league for the best of the best Turf War players. As the franchise nears its tenth anniversary, they’re really going to need to think of new gameplay styles and abilities to keep things fresh.
