11:20 The magazine you have there in the gun is made by Check-Mate (the C in the upper right corner at the bottom), one of the OEM's that make magazines for Colt. Most of the 1911 mag makers on the market have either flush-fit (usually welded floor plate like that Check-Mate) or extended (mostly removable plastic floor plate) 8rd magazines. Browning designed the 7rd mag to only hold 7, so in order to make the same length tube to hold 8, they have to thin out the follower to make room. And that makes the follower less stable (tilts fore and aft) and in turn, the mag less reliable. Not to mention the welded floor plate makes maintenance/cleaning of the mag a lot harder to do. That's why the slightly extended 8rd mag with the removable floor plate, like that Ruger mag your have, is actually the more superior and more reliable choice :)
A simple and easy way to test 1911 mag (same goes for AR mags) is pushing down on the nose (the front tip) of the follower. If the nose goes down, meaning the follower tilts, before the whole follower starts moving downwards, the follower is not the non-tilting type, which every modern magazine should have :)

Most of the ones that I see have the adjustable rear bomar sights. this one has the fixed ones. are those ones with the fixed sights supposed to be rare?

I think it is possible to install an Emma dexterous safety but I prefer the safety on the left-hand side when it comes to 1911s

Just had Colt install a factory stainless steel AMBI Safety on my Colt 1911 S/S Competition Series .45ACP I had to RMA back to them (the grip safety & trigger were too loose for my liking) it looks great, works fantastic. They charged me $125, kinda pricey, but the Colt Factory did the install, So I’m happy.

Colt pistols has not been upgraded for competition. You can buy competition ready pistols in other brand but not a colt.

$1500 is Gold Cup prices; that LGS was overcharging their customers.
These usually go between $950 and $1050 (but perhaps they went that high at the time of purchase?).
