      It’s actually smoother on the spring and the Colt plastic part will not rust if you carry it. 10-8 also sells an aluminum one which weighs the same as the plastic one and is smooth on the spring channel.

    The roll marks on the slide are the reproduction of the original, and it’s a rampant horse not a prancing horse. The broken spear in the horse represents the fallen rider, and the horse took up the battle! As described by COLT to me in the smithing school!

    Love a Government Model, and still love a Colt. I agree with you, that's a good looking sidearm! I also agree that I don't care for the MSH being made of plastic, and I'll go one step further and say that I don't like that it's flat! The traditional MSH on a GM (since 1924, and the advent of the 1911-A1) has been arched. And, having tried both, it's the profile that I prefer. YMMV

    • @enricomandragona163

      I agree 👍 💯 however I own 2 of the Classics and I did a pree 1924 flat knurled and a post in arched with a lanyard loop. I also replaced the trigger with a period correct short trigger & fine tuned the action and lubed everything up. Polishing the trigger bow really makes it smoother

    When I get a Colt with a Plastic MSH, I change it out. They are $45+ now but I still change them. It's a "Rampant Colt", not a "Prancing Pony", although some folks like to call it the "Hartford horsey" as well.

I'm a modern firearm guy moreso these days. 9mm, Glocks, walthers,f n are my guns of choice but I'm waiting to get 1 1911 and this looks like the one I will get for the collection and range .

    The 1911 is probably my all-time favorite pistol.
    Simple. Classic. Reliable. And it's beautiful.
    Of all the varieties of 1911... this is also the best of the 1911 line-up.
    It's like regular classic Coke. Sure, Cherry or Diet Coke is nice. But the classic is the best.
    That said, as varieties go, the Officer model is pretty close to perfect, too.

    I got that model a few years back. I noticed what you did in that the gun is very nice looking with a maybe above the standard polish before blued. Even tho I like the government models the best with an easy to cock hammer... I do appreciate that the sights are far better than the war time Colts. Don't know what a 'match barrel' actually means these days but I will say that the gun is very accurate. it's not that far off from my Kimber if at all. The other thing is that my load for the 45 acp is a 200 grain cast and coated SWC at around 1000 fps. being a swc shape it is probly a bit harder to feed than say something closer to the original round nose but this thing feeds em perfectly. In fairness so far every 1911 I have tried em in feeds em. the bullet is the longer nose SWC which I think aids in feeding. In the old days gunsmiths put kids through school making Colts feed the SWC which was used for target competition.

    I've always wanted a vintage 1911 but am strongly considering buying one like this. There's no guarantee the CMP will start selling them again (even if that latest theft SNAFU hadn't occurred) and of course such firearms can be expensive on the open market. Thanks for the unboxing or rather "uncasing" this one. Did you do a video of this pistol in action at the range? Would be great to hear your thoughts on how it fires.

    what differences between this model and a mark iV series 70? thanks

  • @BullMooseFox
    @BullMooseFox 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I ordered a Colt Series 70 government in 2018 because I've always loved 1911s and I wanted the ultimate 1911. Unfortunately I've been disappointed with mine. It crimps all the shells it ejects and has had rust problems. Shoots great though. I've now upgraded to a Standard Manufacturing 1911a1 government because it's actually what I wanted to begin with. A high quality reproduction of a WWII 1911.
    Prior to the Colt I had a springfield 1911 and an Auto Ordinance 1911. Neither had rusting issues like the Colt. I sold the Springfield because it wasn't US made and it had occasional feeding issues and I sold the Auto Ordinance when I got the Colt although I liked it.

    My records indicate I've owned over 30 "O" frame Colts over the years, mfg from 1912 to present. I consider THIS model the "Greatest Hits" of them all and the only pure stock Colt I've owned where I can't find a single thing to upgrade. The slide is looser than my Baers (duh) or Wilson Combats but (unike my Kimbers) it WORKS. 'll even go further and say it's my "one gun" if I somehow had to do that.

    So did Colt change the name of the Classic back to government model essentially!!?? I have 2 of them one during the pandemic and one in 22 when CZ took over. I got robbed as mine are both 7 rd capacity not 8 .
    I think Colt should change the roll marks back to the original like the new pistol that just came out with the GI nub safety and novack sites that don't make sense! I don't understand why Colt puts nylon mainspring housing's and triggers on the base model!! Their not saving money because Springfield Armory mil spec comes with all metal parts and 3 dot sights and 2 extra mags and extra blk grips for 640!!

  • @Brace67
    @Brace67 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I am curious about something. In the description the speaker indicated the magazine was the standard 7 rounds for a Colt Government Model 1911. He then corrects himself and says the capacity is 8. My question is, how is this possible? The magazine capacity on every Colt 1911 and 1911A1 pistol I've ever owned was always 7 rounds of .45 ACP. Has this now changed? Has Colt somehow modified its magazines on its government models to hold an additional round? The speaker never says or finds this unusual. He just goes right on with his unboxing video. Did anyone else catch this? Can anyone comment please.

      @@TheMilsurpMan Sir, the standard magazine capacity for a Colt M1911 and M1911A1 has always been seven 7 rounds of .45 ACP, never eight. I have three US military M1911A1 WW2 .45 auto pistols, two US military M1911 WW1 .45 military pistols, and none of them have ever held more than seven rounds in their magazines. I have collected these pistols for over 40 years and have original period field and technical manuals from the US Army and believe me that maximum capacity has never exceeded seven rounds. That is until now. I suppose I will need contact Colt to obtain an accurate answer because it is special.

      @Brace67 sir, I realize this as I also have many 1911s and military surplus in 1911s. It's always been known that Colt manufactured 8 round flush fit mags for years. There's not a lot of information on how or why to answer your question, but more than likely, it's a follower redesign cramming one extra round. It's definitely nothing special as there's plenty everywhere.

    There is no beaver tail on that pistol. It's a standard grip safety. Please people learn the correct terminology.

    That is not a "beavertail" grip safety. That is called a standard (USGI) grip safety.

      I mean it is a beavertail. The “Beavertail” is the part of the handgun the grip safety is built into. It’s just not a modern extended beavertail, though it is extended compared to the original 1st gens from wwi era.

    Shame colt played politics in the early 90s, and will never get another dime from me... It's more a shame, that this generation doesn't remember that, and eat them up.

    • @TheMilsurpMan
      @TheMilsurpMan  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's just a firearm it doesn't hold any politics or ideology. Colt isn't the only company that has ever upset the consumer there's been plenty of others.

      I EDC the Sig 365X; it comes with (2) twelve round magazines (total of 24 rounds). Occasionally I will carry the Mil-Spec with (3) eight round magazines for a total of 24 rounds. Only one additional magazine change for the same ammo count.

    • @robwilson3749
      @robwilson3749 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's not a "modern" pistol. Basic marksmanship skills should solve any perceived shortcomings you'd experience with the Colt's capacity because it's not because it's not accurate. That of course doesn't mean that you (no ambiguity here, I mean "you") could hit anything with it.
